Virtual Subcarrier-Based Adaptive Channel Estimation Scheme of IEEE 802.11p-Based WAVE Communication System

  • The IEEE 802.11p-based wireless access in vehicular environments (WAVE) [1] communication is a method used exclusively for wireless communication on the road. This technique enables information sharing not only among moving vehicles but also between vehicles and infrastructure [2]. As part of WAVE communication, data is transmitted to and from vehicles in motion; in this case, it is difficult to determine the channel accurately in an outdoor environment owing to the Doppler shift [3]. This paper proposes a new channel estimation scheme for enhancing the reception performance of the IEEE 802.11p-based WAVE system. The proposed technique obtains the initial channel value by estimating the least square in the time domain by inserting a pilot signal for channel estimation into the IEEE 802.11p virtual subcarrier. Subsequently, a least mean square algorithm is applied to the initial channel value to update the estimated channel value. The simulation results obtained using the proposed channel estimation technique confirm its remarkable efficiency.

  • DC accelerated aging characteristics of $Pr_{6}O_{11}$-based ZnO varistors, which are composed of $ZnO+Pr_{6}O_{11}+CoO+Cr_{2}O_{3}+Dy_{2}O_{3}$ ceramics were investigated with CoO content in the range of 0.5 - 5.0 mol%. The varistors doped with 1.0 mol% revealing maximum value(66.61) in the nonlinear exponent exhibited excellent stability, in which the variation rates of the varistor voltage, the nonlinear exponent and leakage current are -1.93%, -10.48%, and +288.79%, respectively, under DC accelerated aging stress, such as $(0.85V_{lmA}/115^{\circ}C/24h)+(0.90V_{lmA}120^{\circ}C/24h)+(0.95V_{lmA}/125^{\circ}C/24h)+(0.95V_{lmA}/150^{\circ}C/24h)$. Next the varistors doped with 2.0 mol% exhibiting the nonlinear exponent of 47.39 showed high stability.

  • 본 논문은 공개 네트워크 시뮬레이터 ns-2.31(Network Simulator 2.31)의 802.11 DCF 모듈에서 버그(bug)를 소개하고 이의 영향 결과를 분석한다. ns의 802.11 DCF 모듈은 다음과 같은 문제점을 가지고 있다. 첫째, 백오프(backoff) 알고리즘은 표준안에서 명시한 알고리즘대로 작성되지 않았다. 둘째, 특정조건에 해당되는 충돌에 대하여 트레이스 파일에 출력하지 않는다. 셋째, 전파 오류 모듈을 삽입하여도 전파 오류 결과를 트레이스 파일에 출력하지 않는다. 넷째, MAC(Medium Access Control) 알고리즘만을 평가할 수 있는 기법을 제공하지 않는다. 이러한 문제점을 수정한 ns-2와 수정전의 ns-2와 평균4.6%의 충돌률 차이를 보인다.

Evaluation of Exchange Capacities of Ca2+ and Mg2+ ions by Na-A Zeolite Synthesized from Coal Fly Ash (석탄비산재로 합성한 Na-A 제올라이트의 Ca2+와 Mg2+ 이온교환 성능평가)

  • In this study, zeolite (Z-C1) was synthesized using a fusion/hydrothermal method from coal fly ash. The morphological structures of Z-C1 were confirmed to be highly crystalline with a cubic crystal structure. Exchange capacities of $Ca^{2+}$ and $Mg^{2+}$ ions in a single and a mixed solution reached equilibrium within 120 min. The exchange kinetics of these ions were well predicted by the pseudo-second-order rate equation. The exchange isotherms of the $Ca^{2+}$ and $Mg^{2+}$ ions matched the Langmuir isotherm better than the Freundlich isotherm. The maximum cation exchange capacities ($q_m$) obtained by the Langmuir isotherm model were 2.11 mmol/g (84.52 mg/L) and 1.13 mmol/g (27.39 mg/L) for the $Ca^{2+}$ and $Mg^{2+}$ ions, respectively.

  • Permanent neonatal diabetes mellitus refers to diabetes that occurs before the age of 6 months and persists through life. It is a rare disorder affecting one in 0.2-0.5 million live births. Mutations in the gene KCNJ11, encoding the subunit Kir6.2, and ABCC8, encoding SUR1 of the ATP-sensitive potassium ($K_{ATP}$) channel, are the most common causes of permanent neonatal diabetes mellitus. Sulfonylureas close the $K_{ATP}$ channel and increase insulin secretion. KCNJ11 and ABCC8 mutations have important therapeutic implications because sulfonylurea therapy can be effective in treating patients with mutations in the potassium channel subunits. The mutation type, the presence of neurological features, and the duration of diabetes are known to be the major factors affecting the treatment outcome after switching to sulfonylurea therapy. More than 30 mutations in the KCNJ11 gene have been identified. Here, we present our experience with a patient carrying a novel p.H186D heterozygous mutation in the KCNJ11 gene who was successfully treated with oral sulfonylurea.

  • A survey on 4,117 (Boys:2,004, Girls:2,113) High School students in an urban area was conducted for assessing their physical growth, development and nutritional status from may throuth june 1971, and the following results were obtained. 1. Physical Growth and Development. a) Maximum growth was seen during the period from 12 to 16 years of age. b) The Maximum annual growth rates were as follows; Height: Boys-8.1cm from 14 to 15 years of age Girls-4.7cm from 13 to 14 Weight: Boys-8.0kg from 14 to 15 Girls-4.5kg from 13 to 14 Chest Girth: Boys-6.1cm from 14 to 15 Girls-4.2cm from 13 to 14 Sitting Height: Boys-4.6cm from 14 to 15 Girls-2.5cm from 13 to 14 c) The greatest individual differences in growth and development were observed during 12-15 years of age. d) Korean students were shorter than Japanese in 12-16 years of age group but after 17, Korean students become taller than Japanese. e) The standards of growth of rescent urban korean students show much improved than that of 1955. 2. Various Indices about Physical Growth and Development. a) Relative body weight was increased steadily annually and the crossing point of boys and girls appeared at age 11 at which girls surpassed boys and at 14, boys surpassed girls. b) Relative chestgirth showed narrow chest style in boys from 11 to 15 and from 11 to 14 in girls. c) The average relative sitting height was 54.0 in both sexes. d) The $R\ddot{o}hrer$ index was 1.1 in boys and 1.2-1.3 in girls. e) The Kaup index was lower than 2.0 in boys from 11 to 16 and in girls from 11 to 14. It becomes higher than 2.0 after 17 in boys but in girls after 15.

Design of Cavity-Backed High Gain Dual Band Microstrip Antenna Using Frequency Selective Surface (FSS 구조를 이용한 Cavity-Backed 고이득 이중 대역 마이크로스트립 안테나 설계)

  • In this paper, a cavity-backed high gain dual band microstrip antenna with Frequency Selective Surface space(FSS) for WLAN is proposed. The proposed antenna that operates in IEEE 802.11a/b bands with similar radiation pattern and gain is fabricated on RO4003 substrate with a dielectric constant of 3.38. The size of the antenna is $71.5{\times}42.0{\times}6.6\;mm^3$, and the FSS size is $120.0{\times}120.02\;mm^3$. The ground plane size including cavity is $150.0{\times}145.0\;mm^3$. The antenna is fed by coaxial cable. The simulated bandwidths of the antenna are 2.369~2.517 GHz and 5.608~5.833 GHz for VSWR<2. The gains are 11.23 dBi and 12.60 dBi, respectively, for the lower and upper bands.

  • Chemical investigation of the hot hexane extract of the stem bark of Gordonia dassanayakei afforded a new oleanane triterpenoid, $11{\alpha},13{\beta}-dihydroxyolean-3,12-dione$ (1) and two other oleanane triterpenoids, $3{\beta}-acetoxy-11{\alpha},13{\beta}-dihydroxyolean-12-one\;(2)\;and\;3{\beta},11{\alpha}-diacetoxy-13{\beta}-hydroxyolean-12-one\;(3)\;and\;a\;hopane\;6{\alpha},22-diol$ (4), which are new to the plant.

  • A ternary Zintl phase material of the formula $K_2Ga_2Sb_4$ has been prepared directly from reaction of the elements following a high temperature procedure. The compound consists of potassium ions and planar ribbons of $(Ga_2Sb_4^{-2})_{\infty}$ consisting of five membered $[Ga_2Sb_3]$ rings bridged by Sb atoms. The variable temperature specific resistivity measurements show the material to be an intrinsic semiconductor.
