The aim of this study was to evaluate the antimicrobial effect of photodynamic therapy (PDT) using plaque disclosing agent, 10 - 20 mM erythrosine, as a photosensitizer. Multispecies cariogenic biofilms containing Streptococcus mutans, Lactobacillus casei and Candida albicans were formed on hydroxyapatite disc. 20 μM, 10 mM and 20 mM erythrosine were applied as a photosensitizer for 3 minutes, and then light-emitting diode (LED) irradiated for 24 seconds. Colony-forming unit (CFU) were measured and biofilms were observed using confocal laser scanning microscopy (CLSM). CFU were significantly decreased in the PDT groups using 10 - 20 mM erythrosine (10 mM, 20mM) and the results were also confirmed by CLSM. This study confirms the high antimicrobial effect of photodynamic therapy using plaque disclosing agent as a photosensitizer.
Activities of the $F_1-ATPase$ purified from Lentinus edodes were stimulated by $Fe^{3+},\;Fe^{2+},\;Cd^{2+},\;Mg^{2+},\;K^{+}\;and\;Co^{2+}$ but were inhibited by $Zn^{2+},\;Ca^{2+},\;Cu^{2+}\;and\;Ni{2+}$ ion. The enzyme activities were increased 130, 65, 65, 68, 105% and 23% by the 5mM $Fe^{3+}$, 10 mM$Fe^{2+}$, 1mM $Cd^{2+}$, 5mM $Mg^{2+}$, 5mM $K^{+}$ and 5mM$Co^{2+}$ ion addition, respectively, as compared with those not added. The enzyme activities were decreased 18, 19, 27 and 30% by 10 mM $Zn^{2+}$, 10mM $Ca^{2+}$, 0.5 mM $Cu^{2+}$ and 10 mM $Ni^{2+}$ ion, respectively. Anion effects of 10 mM ${Co_3}^{2-}$, 20 mM,$CN^{-}$ 20 mM$CH_3COO^{-}$ and 20 mM ${NO_3}^{-}$ ion were inhibited to the enzyme activities of 98, 95, 70 and 50%, respectively. As increasing of ${SO_4}^{2-}$ ion concentration, the enzyme activity was stimulated and 20 mM ${SO_4}^{2-}$ ion was shown increased of 21%.
This study was conducted to identify seed inflow characteristics according to harvest typeand to provide basic data for developing a regeneration technology for secondary growth forests in Korean red pine (Pinus densiflora) succession forest formation by natural regeneration. Experimental sites were established by applying seed tree (single and group) and clear-cutting methods (10- 20- 30-m strip and 20- 30- 40-m patch). The seed inflow characteristics of the natural regeneration site were analyzed for 6 years from 2014. Most seeds were flowed to the regeneration stand from October to November. In years with good seed fructification, more than 80% were flowed in October. The average annual seed inflow by harvest type was highest in the seed tree area (296,000 seeds/ha/yr), followed by the 20-m patch clear-cutting area (291,000 seeds/ha/yr) and 10-m strip clear-cutting area (281,000 seeds/ha/yr). The distribution uniformity of seed inflow according to treatment was analyzed in the order of the 20-m strip clear-cutting area (52.2), 20-m patch clear-cutting area (52.9), and 10-m strip clear-cutting area (56.1). As a result, the 10-m strip and 20-m patch clear-cutting areas with relatively small harvest areas showed high seed inflow and distribution uniformity.
Leaf lettuce (Lactuca sativa L., var. crispa) packed in $20{\mu}m$ LDPE (perforated), $20{\mu}m$ LDPE, $30{\mu}m$ HDPE, and $40{\mu}m$ LDPE pouches was stored at $4^{\circ}C,\;10^{\circ}C\;and\;20^{\circ}C$. The quality of leaf lettuce during the storage was investigated in terms of weight loss, color, soluble solids content, texture and sensory properties. Leaf lettuce exhibited the highest storage stability at $4^{\circ}C$. Shelf-life of the packed leaf lettuce was prolonged approximately $10{\sim}15$ times in comparision with that of the unpacked under all temperature conditions. Among the packed leaf lettuce, self-life in $20{\mu}m$ LDPE (perforated) and $20{\mu}m$ LDPE pouches was relatively short mainly due to discoloration and deterioration. On the other hand, the quality of the leaf lettuce packed in $30{\mu}m$ HDPE and $40{\mu}m$ LDPE pouches was kept well during the storage. Particularly, $40{\mu}m$ LDPE pouches conferred the shelf-life superior to other film pouches.
The effects of branched chain amino acids and small metabolites in growth media on the biosynthesis of Serratia marcescens ATCC 25419 acetolactate synthase (ALS) were examined. ALS activ~ty was gradually decreased by isoleucme or leucine among the range from 1 mM to 20 rnM, while the activity was increased 40% by isoleucine under low concentration (0.5 mM). ALS activity was also increased about 40% by valine among 2 to 4 mM ranges, but the activity was decreased only 10% at 20 mM. ALS activity was decreased 25% and 70% by the simultaneous addition of all three branched chain amino acids at 2 mM and 10 mM, respectively. Among several small metabolites tested, ALS activity was increased about 2-fold by cAMP at 2 mM. These data suggest that Sorrtrtiti rnorcewns ALS is muitivalently repressed by branched chain amino acids, but not repressed by valine alone.
The aim of this study was to assess the developmental capacity of oocytes maturated in vitro after 10 days of culture when the preantral follicles were isolated from juvenile mice 10- and 20-day old, respectively, and to develop in vitro culture system that observed a view to morphology of follicles and nucleus maturation of oocytes. The antral-like cavities became formation after 6 days of culture in follicle isolated from 10- and 20-day old mice. The number of follicles were 21.5 and 33.3 in ovary isolated from 10- and 20-day old mice, respectively. The diameters of oocytes were 51.85 and 57.50 ${\mu}{\textrm}{m}$ before culture and were grew 55.95 and 63.11 ${\mu}{\textrm}{m}$ after culture for 10 days, in follicles isolated from 10- and 20-day old mice, respectively. The observation rates up to the M II and from GV to M II were 4.3 and 22.1%, and 14.5 and 61.1% after culture for 10 days in follicles isolated from 10- and 20-day old mice, respectively.

The effect of Tween 20 addition on changes in the stability of methylcellulose (MC) emulsions (1 wt% MC, 10 wt% n-tetradecane, 20 mM bis-tris buffer, pH 7) was investigated by creaming stability and orthokinetic stability measurements. In the case of MC emulsions containing varying amounts of oil (1$\sim$30 wt%) and no Tween 20 added, creaming stability, judged by mean migration velocity of fat globules ($V_m$), was found to depend on droplet size: the larger the droplet size, the worse the stability [$V_m$: 0.326 $\mu$m $min^{-1}$ ($d_{32}$: 0.32 $\mu$m) ${\rightarrow}V_m$: 0.551 $\mu$m $min^{-1}$ ($d_{32}$: 0.53 $\mu$m)]. With Tween 20, creaming stability was found to be worse than the one without Tween 20, except for MC emulsion containing 0.2 wt% Tween 20. In addition, cream stability was the lowest with the lowest concentration of Tween 20 and a tendency to recover with increasing Tween 20 concentration [$V_m$: 0.598 $\mu$m $min^{-1}$ (0.01 wt%)${\rightarrow}V_m$: 0.389 $\mu$m $min^{-1}$ (0.2 wt%)] was found. From viscosity measurement for aqueous bulk phase of MC emulsions, such a change in the creaming stability was found to coincide well with the results of viscosity measurement. Therefore, it was reasonable to say that creaming stability of MC emulsions containing Tween 20 depended on MC concentration in aqueous bulk phase, which was in turn varied by competitive adsorption between MC and Tween 20 at the oil droplet surface. In case of orthokinetic stability, judged by destabilization time ($t_d$), it was found that the addition of Tween 20 resulted in lowered stability with more pronounce tendency at higher concentrations [$t_d$: 160 min (0.03 wt%)${\rightarrow}t_d$: 100 min (0.2 wt%)]. Moreover, combined with previous results, the orthokinetic stability of MC emulsions containing Tween 20 was found to be exponentially proportional to MC load. In conclusion, competitive adsorption between MC and Tween 20 may affect the stability properties of MC emulsion to varying extents, depending on the concentration of Tween 20.
The spatial distribution of geographical distances at five natural populations of Camellia japonica in Busan, Korea was studied. The four plots (Mollundae, Gadeok-do, Du-do, and Jwiseum) of C. japonica were uniformly distributed in the forest community and only one plot (Amnam-dong) was aggregately distributed in the forest community. Morisita index is related to the patchiness index showed that the plot $20m{\times}50m$ had an overly steep slope when the area was larger than $20m{\times}20m$, which indicated that the degree of aggregation increased significantly with increasing quadrat sizes, while the patchiness indices did not change from the plot $5m{\times}10m$ to $10m{\times}10m$. The spatial structure was quantified by Moran's I, a coefficient of spatial autocorrelation. Ten of the significant values (76.9%) were positive, indicating similarity among individuals in the first 4 distance classes (80 m), i.e., pairs of individuals with dissimilarity characteristics can separate by more than 100 m.

This study developed a legibility distance(LD) model for three colors used in VMS according to luminance under foggy conditions through experiments. For this, a simulated environment was created, and LD values of red, green, and yellow color were collected by increasing the luminance. From the test results, the LDs for red at luminance levels of 2,000 cd/㎡ and 20,000 cd/㎡ and a visibility distance of 10m were 10.2m and 18.8m, respectively, which was an improvement of 84%. The LD was improved by 34% and 17% at a visibility distance of 20 m and 30 m, respectively. For green, the LD was improved by 69%, 63%, and 19% at visibility distance of 10m, 20m, 30m, respectively. For yellow, the LD was improved by 100%, 47%, and 36% at visibility distance of 10m, 20m, 30m, respectively. The LD models for three colors were developed by using two independent variables, luminance value and visibility distance. The adjusted coefficients of the red, green, and yellow model equations were calculated as 0.982, 0.978, and 0.915, respectively, and the explanatory power of all models was very high.

This study was designed to evaluate the effect of L-cysteine on sperm characteristics and oocyte cleavage in vitro in Korean native cattle. For this study, the freezing of diluted semen were added with Triladyl containing 20% egg-yolk and/or 0, 5, 10 and 20 mM L-cysteine before cryopreservation. The viability in frozen-thawed sperm were estimated by SYBR14/PI double stain, acrosome damage with FITC-PNA, mitochondria intact with Rhodamin123 and hydrogen peroxide($H_2O_2$) level with carboxy-DCFDA by flow-cytometry. The developmental capacity was also assessed with cleavage rates in oocytes fertilized in vitro by frozen-thawed sperm. In results, the sperm viability was significantly increased in 10 mM and 20 mM concentrations of L-cysteine than other groups (p<0.05). In addition, acrosome damage was significantly decreased in 10 mM and 20 mM concentrations of L-cysteine than other groups (p<0.05). The mitochondria intact was also significantly increased in 10 mM and 20 mM concentrations of L-cysteine than other groups (p<0.05). On the other hand, the cleavage rates were significantly increased in 0 mM, 5 mM and 10 mM groups than 20 mM concentration of L-cysteine (p<0.05). The oocyte degeneration of oocytes were significantly decreased in 0 mM, 5 mM and 10 mM groups than in 20 mM L-cysteine group (P<0.05). However, there are no significantly differences among the L-cysteine treatment groups. We suggest that concentration of 10 mM L-cysteine have beneficial impact for sperm cryopreserved in Korean native cattle. This result also could be recommended for artificial insemination program if supported by an improvement in the fertility results and required further study.
