ECCOMAS Thematic Conference Multibody 2003 was held at IST (Instituto Superior Technico), Lisbon, Portugal from July 1 to July 4. 2003. And MBDV(Multibody Dynamics and Vibration) in the 2003 ASME DETC was held at Chicago, U.S.A. from September 2 to September 6. In this paper, the presented papers in these conferences were reviewed and the trends in the multibody dynamics are summarized. The session titles in these conferences include Flexible Multibody Dynamics, Vehicle Dynamics, Contact, Biomechanics, Real-time Challenges, Spatial manipulator and Control, Multidisciplinary Applications, and Advanced Education. The poster session was also organized for more discussions in the Multibody2003 conference.

International Hull Clauses(IHC(2003)) which have replaced the old system, Institute Time Clauses, Hull(ITCH), used more than 100 years in the shipping industry that did not fit the reality of the market and customs was announced in 01/11/2003 and was intended to supplement the existing issues to reflect the terms that had been used. IHC(2003) was composed of systematical and logical phrases to minimize the conflict which happened between the insured and the insurer after the incident. But IHC(2003) is being ignored by both the insured and the insurer in the shipping industry due to the differences in both positions. In addition, the studies about IHC(2003) in local academics are very low and many companies in the shipping industry are using both systems, IHC(2003) and ITCH so the usage of IHC(2003) is not so activated. Thus, this study will examines the main features and the compositions of IHC(2003) and compare IHC(2003) with ITCH(1983) in some provisions in both systems and then derive some similarities from the both systems and finally would suggest the necessity and validity of active use of IHC(2003).

지난 10월 29일부터 10월 31일까지 동경 국제 포럼 전시장에서는‘동경 데이터베이스 2003(DATABASE 2003 Tokyo)’ 전시회가 개최됐다. 이와 함께 오사카에서는 10월 29일, 30일 양일간에 걸쳐 ‘인터미디어포럼 2003(INTERMEDIA FORUM 2003)’이 개최됐다. 최근 일본의 데이터베이스 및 GIS, 특허정보 등을 한 눈에 볼 수 있는 동경 데이터베이스 전시회와 인터넷&모바일 솔루션 기술력을 느낄 수 있었던 인터미디어포럼의 현장을 소개한다.

본 고에서는 2003년 스위스 제네바에서 개최될 WRC 회의를 대비하여 아시아/태평양 지역의 상호 정보교환 및 WRC 회의에서의 지역적 입지 강화를 목적으로 APT 주관으로 지난 8월 26일부터 8월 31일까지 대한민국(부산)에서 개최된 APG2003-4차 회의의 주요 경과 및 결과를 살펴보고자 한다. 또한 이를 통하여 향후 국내에서 전개될 주요 의제별 표준화 활동에 대한 대응 방안을 제시하고자 한다.

This study intends to examine the Korean students' responses on mathematics items in PISA 2003(Programme for International Student Assessment 2003). In particular, we study the mathematics items with low percentage of correct answers, and discuss the reasons of low percentage of correct answers of Korean students. In addition to we investigate the students' misconceptions in mathematics. Finally, we suggest the implications for improving the teaching and learning of the relevant mathematics con-tents.

The phytoplankton community, environmental factors, and rainfall were investigated from July to October in 2001 and 2003 on Dam site in Daechung Reservoir. The monthly average rainfall in the investigated period were 91.3 and 265.3 mm in 2001 and 2003, respectively. The maximum chlorophyll a concentration was observed higher at 131.5 ㎍ L/sup -1/ in 2003 than at 45.4 ㎍ L/sup -1/ in 2001. The cyanobacterial number in 2001 was counted up to over 200,000 cells mL/sup -1/, which was much higher than the maximum number of 49,000 cells mL/sup -1/ in 2003. The relative abundance of cyanobacteria in the phytoplankton community was about 97% in 2001 and 74% in 2003. Microcystis spp. were absolutely dominant species in 2001, while a couple of cyanobacteria such as Oscillatoria spp., Phormidium spp. Chroococcus spp. and Microcystis spp. were dominant species in 2003. Consequently, it seemed that rainfall affected the diversity of phytoplankton species and decreased the density of bloom-forming cyanobacteria.
