  • As the amount of data between ECUs has increased, the FlexRay consortium proposed FlexRay network system which has larger bandwidth than CAN. But because of implementation cost, CAN and FlexRay hybrid network with FlexRay-CAN gateway will make up the largest part of in-vehicle networks for the present. In this paper, a FlexRay-CAN gateway for a real time feedback control system is implemented, and a data packing algorithm is presented. Finally, a real control experiment with multi-motor system is conducted to verify the proposed gateway system.

  • In 2014 Flex-PLIfor the pedestrian protection will be applied to NCAP test. The most significant feature of Flex-PLI is constructed with segmental bone cores for the femur and tibia regions. So it can be more reproducible by representing pedestrian injuries such as knee ligament and tibia injury during the pedestrian crash against vehicle. In this paper, Analyzed the characteristics of Flex-PLI through the structural analysis and the test results by using Flex-PLI for our compact vehicles. Finally countermeasures into compact vehicle were proposed to fulfill the injury criteria of Flex-PLI.

  • Recently, the use of electronic control units in vehicle has increased. The ECUs are connected to in vehicle networks to process a large amount of information. In this paper, for an actuator that is interconnected to CAN and FlexRay, a FlexRay-CAN gateway is presented and a data packing algorithm with a bisection method of a FlexRay slot is proposed. And, a network based actuator control system and packing map is implemented. With the proposed packing method, contact force sensor data are transferred within the maximum allowed delay to ensure the stability. The proposed method is useful for control of distributed system.

  • As vehicles become more intelligent for safety and convenience of drivers, in-vehicle networking systems such as controller are network (CAN) have been widely used due to increasing number of electronic control unit (ECU). Recently, FlexRay was developed to replace CAN protocol in chassis networking systems, to remedy the shortage of transmission capacity and unsatisfactory real-time transmission delay of conventional CAN. However, it is difficult for vehicle network designers to calculate platform configuration registers (PCR) and determine a base cycle or slot length of FlexRay. To assist vehicle network designers for designing FlexRay cluster, this paper presents automatic field bus exchange format (FIBEX) generation algorithm from CANdb information, which is de-facto standard database format for CAN. To design this program, structures of FIBEX, CANdb and relationship among PCR variables are analyzed.

  • In this paper, we propose "flexible routing with flex" to provide fast delivery by using the flexible routing for the delivery vehicle and crowd-shipper named flex. To this end, we have introduced an algorithm that can build the delivery plan for delivery vehicles and flexes. The introduced algorithm uses the 2-opt algorithm to construct routes with low complexity and acceptable quality, and the revised saving algorithm to assign customer orders to the flex. The algorithm allows the vehicle and the flex to function complement each other without separating the delivery vehicle from the flex. The experiments consider the 3 different instances named Random, Mixed, Cluster, and show that "the flexible routing with flex" has a better result than "vehicle only". The sensitivity analysis of the flex cost and time penalty shows "the flexible routing with flex" can provide better service not only to the customers who are serviced by flex but also to the customers who are serviced by the delivery vehicle.

  • FlexRay is a new standard of network communication system which provides solutions to the degradation problems generated by many ECU (Electronic Control Unit) connections in automobiles and automation systems. The upper bound of the data rate is 10Mbps and it provides two channels for redundancy In this paper, FlexRay system is first designed using SDL. For hardware implementation, FlexRay system is designed using Verilog HDL based on the SDL design result. The designed system is synthesized using Synopsys Design Compiler with the Magna/Hynix 0.18 um cell library. In this paper, to construct a FlexRay network, active star is used since active star systems can provide high speed data transmission up to 10Mbps. The performance of the star network is tested using one transmitter node and two receiver nodes.

  • FlexRay is an in-vehicle network with maximum two channels and maximum transmission speed of 10Mbps per channel. FlexRay exploits TDMA (Time Division Multiple Access) and FTDMA (Flexible Time division Multiple Access) to ensure real-time communication with efficient transmission, so it is used for real-time electronic control of safety-critical vehicular modules such as powertrain. This paper explains FlexRay protocol, time hierarchy, message frame, communication controller, and conformance test in detail based on ISO 17458 standard and FlexRay consortium documents.

  • This study was conducted to determine what effects would the midsole hardness of running shoes have on shoe flex angle and maximum propulsive force. Furthermore, the relationship between the shoes flex angle and maximum propulsive force was elucidated in order to provide basic data for developing running shoes to improve sports performances and prevent injuries. The subjects employed in the study were 10 college students majoring in physical education who did not have lower limbs injuries for the last one year and whose running pattern was rearfoot strike pattern of normal foot. The shoes used in this study had 3different hardness, shore A 40(soft), 50(medium) and 60(hard). The subjects were asked to run at a speed of $4{\pm}0.08m/sec$, and their movements were videotaped with 2 S-VHS video-cameras and measured with a force platform. And the following results were obtained after analyzing and comparing the variables. 1. Although the minimum angle of shoes flex angle was estimated to appear at SFA4, it appeared at SFA2 except in those shoes with the hardness of 40. 2. The minimum angle of shoes flex angle was $145.1^{\circ}$ with barefoot. Among the shoes with different hardness, it was the smallest when the hardness was 50 at $149.9^{\circ}$. The time to the minimum angle was 70.7% of the total ground contact time. 3. Maximum propulsive force according to midsole hardness was the largest when the hardness was 50 at $1913.9{\pm}184.3N$. There was a low correlation between maximum propulsive force and shoes flex angle.

  • As vehicles become intelligent for convenience and safety of drivers, in-vehicle networking (IVN) systems are essential components of intelligent vehicles. Recently, the chassis networking system which require increased network capacity and real-time capability is being developed to expand the application area of IVN systems. Also, FlexRay has been developed for the chassis networking system. However, FlexRay needs a complex scheduling method of static segment, which is a barrier for implementing the chassis networking system. Especially, if we want to migrate from CAN network to FlexRay network using CAN message database that was well constructed for the chassis networking system by automotive vendors, a novel scheduling method is necessary to be able to reduce design complexity. This paper presents a node-based scheduling method for FlexRay network system. And, in order to demonstrate the method's feasibility, its performance is evaluated through an experimental testbed.
