The carbon nanotube / poly-vinylidene fluoride (CNT/PVDF) composite films for the nano-generator devices were fabricated by spray coating method using the CNT/PVDF solution, which was prepared by adding PVDF pellets into the CNT dispersed N-Methyl-2-pyrroli-done (NMP) solution. The flexible CNT/PVDF composite films were investigated by the scanning electron microscopy, which revealed that the CNTs were uniformly dispersed in the PVDF matrix and thickness of the films was approximately $20{\mu}m$. Fourier transform infra-red spectra were used to investigate crystal structure of the as-spray-coated CNT/PVDF films, and we found that they revealed extremely large portion of the ${\beta}$ phase PVDF. The capacitance of the CNT/PVDF films increased by adding CNTs into the PVDF matrix, and finally saturated. However, the resistance didn't show any saturation effect in the CNT concentration range of 0~4 wt%. Finally, the resulting nano-generator devices revealed reasonable current output after given mechanical stress.
$Ti_{52}Al_{48}$ and $(Ti_{52}Al_{48})_{100-x}B_x(x=0.5, 2, 5)$ alloys have been Produced by mechanical milling in an attritor mill using prealloyed powders. Microstructure of binary $Ti_{52}Al_{48}$ powders consists of grains of hexagonal phase whose structure is very close to $Ti_2Al$. $(Ti_{52}Al_{48})_{95}B_5$ powders contains TiB2 in addition to matrix grains of hexagonal phase. The grain sizes in the as-milled powders of both alloys are nanocrystalline. The mechanically alloyed powders were consolidated by vacuum hot pressing (VHP) at 100$0^{\circ}C$ for 2 hours, resulting in a material which is fully dense. Microstructure of consolidated binary alloy consists of $\gamma$-TiAl phase with dispersions of $Ti_2AlN$ and $A1_2O_3$ phases located along the grain boundaries. Binary alloy shows a significant coarsening in grain and dispersoid sizes. On the other hand, microstructure of B containing alloy consists of $\gamma$-TiAl grains with fine dispersions of $TiB_2$ within the grains and shows the minimal coarsening during annealing. The vacuum hot pressed billets were subjected to various heat treatments, and the mechanical properties were measured by compression testing at room temperature. Mechanically alloyed materials show much better combinations of strength and fracture strain compared with the ingot-cast TiAl, indicating the effectiveness of mechanical alloying in improving the mechanical properties.
In this study, the influenced of graphite shape on the boriding of cast iron and boride structure was investigated. Gray cast iron, ferritic and pearlitic ductile cast iron were borided at 750,850,900 and $950^{\circ}C$ for 1,3 and 5 hours by powder pack method with the mixture of $B_4C_9\;Na_2B_4O_7$, $KBF_4$ and Shc. The boride layer was consisted of FeB(little), $Fe_2B$ (main) and graphite. Some possibility of the existence of unknown Fe-B-C compound in the boride layer was suggested. And precipitates in the diffusion zone was $Fe_3(B,C)$. The concentration of Si and precipitation of $Fe_3(B,C)$ in the ${\alpha}$ layer raised the hardness of this Zone. The depth and hardness of boride layer increased with the increase of treating temperature and tim. But high temperature (over $950^{\circ}C)$ caused pore at graphite position and long treating time (5hrs) sometimes caused formation of graphite layer beneath the boride layer. So, for the practical application of borided cast iron, treating in short time and at low temperature was recommended. And for ductile cast iron, ferritizing or pearlitizing heat treatment was seemmed to be possible at the same time with boriding. The graphite in the boride layer was deeply concerned with the qualitx and characteristics of the boride layer. And it greatly influenced on the shape of the boride phase, structure of the boride layer. Generally speaking, the existance of graphite restrained the growth of the boride phase. But the boundary between the gsaphite and the matrix acted as the shortcut of boron diffusion. So, for gray cast iron, the graphite layed length-wise led the formation of boride layer.
An investigation on thermohydraulic stability of flow oscillations in the CANada Deuterium Uranium-600(CANDU-6) heat transport system has been conducted. Flow oscillations in reactor coolant loops, comprising two heat sources and two heat sinks in series, are possibly caused by the response of the pressure to extraction of fluid in two-phase region. This response consists of two contributions, one arising from mass and another from enthalpy change in the two-phase region. The system computer code used in the investigation os SOPHT, which is capable of simulating steady states as well as transients with varying boundary conditions. The model was derived by linearizing and solving one-dimensional, homogeneous single- and two-phase flow conservation equations. The mass, energy and momentum equations with boundary conditions are set up throughout the system in matrix form based on a node-link structure. Loop stability was studied under full power conditions with interconnecting the two compressible two phase regions in the figure-of-eight circuit. The dominant function of the interconnecting pipe is the transfer of mass between the two-phase regions. Parametric survey of loop stability characteristics, i. e., damping ratio and period, has been made as a function of geometrical parameters of the interconnection line such as diameter, length, height and orifice flow coefficient. The stability characteristics with interconnection line has been clarified to provide a simple criterion to be used as a guide in scaling of the pipe.

The characteristics of liquid crystal polymer composite(LCPC) films are possessed of large-area and flexible display, polarizer free, high contrast, wide angle of visual filed and high responsiveness. It is well known that the LCPC films consisting of a continuous LC phase embeded in a three-dimentional network of polymer matrix are formed by photopolymerization-induced phase separation. In this study, we have investigated the point that both liquid crystals and polymer having different properties have to coexiste as composed films. The purpose of this study has been the development of new application with liquid crystals and UV-curable monomers. In the results abtained on the miscibility of nematic liquid crystal and UV-curable resins, difunctional monomer HX-620 turned out to shows the best. From the results abtained on structures, electro-optical properties and dynamic visocoelasticity for LCPC films, the best mixing ratio of monomer to LC mixture were 3/7(photoinitiator; 4wt%) by weight, and this ratio has been provided the most thermal stability for LCPC films. In the results abtained on structure and discoloration properties of LCPC films, it has been demonstrated that consiste of a 8:2 mixture of chiral nematic liquid crystal and HX-620 has the greatest domain and it was the best discoloration.
This work is to report not only the effect of rapid solidification of $MgZn_{4.3}Y_{0.7}$ alloys on the micro-structure, but also the extrusion behavior on the materials properties. The average grain size of the atomized powders was about $3-4{\mu}m$. The alloy powders of $Mg_{97}Zn_{4.3}Y_{0.7}$, consisted of I-Phase (Icosahedral, $Mg_{3}Zn_{6}Y_{1}$) as well as Cubic structured W-Phase ($Mg_{3}Zn_{3}Y_{2}$), which was finely distributed within ${\alpha}-Mg$ matrix. The oxide layer formed along the Mg surface was about 48 nm in thickness. In order to study the consolidation behavior of Mg alloy powders, extrusion was carried out with the area reduction ratio of 10:1 to 20:1. As the ratio increased, fully deformed and homogeneous microstructure could be obtained, and the mechanical properties such as tensile strength and elongation were simultaneously increased.
Ultrafine-grained or nanostructured alloys usually lack the strain hardening capability needed to sustain uniform tensile deformation under high stresses. To circumvent this problem, we fabricated the Cu-based composite reinforced with the 3-dimensionally interconnected $Cu_5Zr$ phase using the combined technique of rapid quenching and subsequent hot-rolling. The alloy exhibited a tensile ductility of ~2.5% together with a strength of 1.57 GPa, which exceeds the values of most commercially available Cu-Be alloys. In this study, we elucidated the structural origin of the high strength and tensile ductility of the developed alloy by examining the thermal stability of the $Cu_5Zr$ reinforcing phase and the energy (work) absorption capability of the Cu matrix.
The mullite-15v/o ZrO2 composites were prepared by dispersing ZrO2-3m/o Y2O3 powders into the mullite matrix in order to improve the mechanical properties of the mullite. The densification and retention of t-ZrO2 in the matrix of synthetic mullite were also investigated. From IR spectroscopic analysis, the obtained amorphous SiO2-Al2O3 powder was observed to have Si-O-Al chemical bond in its structure which might result in the homogeneous mullite composition. The lattice parameter of the mullite powder calcined above 130$0^{\circ}C$ (a0=7.5468$\AA$) is nearly close to the value of stoichiometric mullite (71.8wt% Al2O3, a0=7.5456$\AA$). The sintering behavior, microstructure, flexural strength and fracture toughness of the mullite and mullite-15v/o ZrO2 composites have been studied. The mullite-15v/o ZrO2(+3m/o Y2O3) ceramics with relative densities of 96% were obtained when sintered at 1$600^{\circ}C$. The flexural strength and fractrue toughness of the composites sintered at 1$600^{\circ}C$(calcination temperature of mullite powders ; 125$0^{\circ}C$) had maximum values of 307MPa and 2.50MPa.m1/2, respectively. The fracture toughness improvement in the mullite-ZrO2 cmoposite is assumed to be resulted from the combined effect of the stress-induced phase transformation of tetragonal ZrO2 and the crack deflection due to microcracking by the monoclinic ZrO2 formation.

The eigenvalue equations of multiple waveguides with step-index profile are derived by using the WKB theory. Phase changes unique to step-index discontinuity areintroduced when applying the WKB connection formula to turning points. The transfer matrix method is employed for the analysis of multiple structure and the derived eigenvalue equation are represented in the recursive form. The results by the WKB are compared with those by the FEM for a three-waveguide coupler.
Al-Cr-Zr nanocomposite metal powders were prepared by mechnical alloying (MA) in order to develop aircraft structure materials with lighter weight and lower cost than the conventional Ti and Ni alloys. The morphological changes and microstrutural evolution of Al-6wt.%Cr-3wt.%Zr nanocomposite metal powders during MA were investigated by SEM, XRD and TEM. The approximately 50$\mu$m sized Al-Cr-Zr nanocomposite metal powders has been formed after 20 h of MA. The individual X-ray diffraction peaks of Al, Cr and Zr were broadened and peak intensitied were decreased as a function of MA time. The observed Al crystallite size by TEM was in the range of 20 nm, which is a simliar value calculated by Scherrer equation. The microhardness of Al-Cr-Zr nanocomposite metal powders increases alomost linearly with increase of the processing time, reaching a saturation hardness value of 127 kg/$mm^2$ after 20 h of processing. The intermetallic compound phase of $Al_3Zr_4$ in the matrix was identifed by XRD and TEM.
