  • Multi-pass shape drawing is very important to produce steel profiles in round samples. In the current study, a process design system is developed for a multi-pass shape drawing. In general, the number of passes for a multi-pass shape drawing is 2 to 3 when the reduction ratio, drawing stress, and productivity are considered. Therefore, calculating the drawing stress and designing the intermediated die shapes are very important. In order to calculate the drawing stress, a shape drawing load prediction method is proposed using a general axisymmetric drawing load prediction model. An intermediate die shape design method is proposed using the initial and the final product shapes. Based on this analysis, a process design system is developed for multi-pass shape drawing for steel profiles. The system works with AutoCAD. The system was applied to design a shape drawing of a spline.

  • We present the data of photoelectric photometric observations of BW Vul carried out for four nights during the period of $1982{\sim}1984$. The light curves with asymmetric shape show a stillstand on the ascending branch at phase of ${\phi}{\approx}0.85$ just before the maximum light, and also the ampitude and shape of light curves are changed from night to night. Using all the published data, a new ephemeris of maximum time is derived, in which the period of light variation is $P=0^d.20102977$ and its increasing rate is 2.2 see/century.

  • Recently, research and developmental direction of communication system is concurrent adopting voice data and face image in speaking to provide more higher recognition rate then in the case of only voice data. Therefore, we present a method of lipreading in speech image sequence by using the 3-D facial shape model. The method use a feature information of the face image such as the opening-level of lip, the movement of jaw, and the projection height of lip. At first, we adjust the 3-D face model to speeching face image sequence. Then, to get a feature information we compute variance quantity from adjusted 3-D shape model of image sequence and use the variance quality of the adjusted 3-D model as recognition parameters. We use the intensity inclination values which obtaining from the variance in 3-D feature points as the separation of recognition units from the sequential image. After then, we use discrete HMM algorithm at recognition process, depending on multiple observation sequence which considers the variance of 3-D feature point fully. As a result of recognition experiment with the 8 Korean vowels and 2 Korean consonants, we have about 80% of recognition rate for the plosives and vowels.

  • In the fourth industrial revolution, the demand for metal three-dimensional (3D) printing technology is rapidly increasing. Metal 3D printing is an efficient method for manufacturing products because the method reduces material waste compared to subtractive manufacturing. In addition, products with complex shapes, such as turbine blades, can be easily produced using metal 3D printing because the method offers a high degree of freedom. However, due to the long production time of metal 3D printing, mass production is impossible, and post-processing is necessary due to its low precision. Therefore, it is necessary to develop a new hybrid process that can efficiently process metals and to develop a metal 3D-printing-based hybrid processing system technology to secure high processing precision and manufacture complex shapes. In this study, the structural stability of a metal 3D printer based hybrid machining center was analyzed through structural analysis before its development. In addition, we proposed a design modification that can reduce the weight and increase the stiffness of the hybrid machining center by performing shape lightning based on the structural analysis results.

  • This study builds a database that can be reflected in the production of dress form for fitting by typifying the upper body shape of a senior male. This study analyzed the 3D shape data of 405 persons of the 5th Size Korea. The age range is from 50s 210 persons and 60s 205 persons. Analysis items to identify upper body shape of senior males consisted of 51 items. 3D shape data were also measured using a Geomagic Design ${\times}$ program for the analysis of the upper body of the senior male required for the dress form of this study. The reference point was based on the Size Korea 2010 3D measurement standard and created points (Back-protrusion) on shape data. As a result of the senior men type, the senior men's body type was classified into four types:1. Overall, the upper body is a large body type and the most undistorted overall body type 2. Width / Thickness Flatness is the largest and vertical length factor is the smallest abdominal obesity type 3. Severe flexion of the back part type 4. The upper body is small and the scapular bending is severe. The elderly body type showed a high distribution ratio in the type with severe flexion. The development of a dress form that reflects the cause of the finery issue can improve the fit of ready-to-wear.

  • In this paper, we present a novel deformation method for alleviating the asymmetry of a scanned 3D face considering facial features. To handle detailed areas of the face, we developed a new local 3D shape descriptor based on facial features and surface curvatures. Our shape descriptor can improve the accuracy when deforming a 3D face toward a symmetric configuration, because it provides accurate point pairing with respect to the plane of symmetry. In addition, we use point-based representation over all stages of symmetrization, which makes it much easier to support discrete processes. Finally, we performed a statistical analysis to assess subjects' preference for the symmetrized faces by our approach.

  • As the body shape change which occurs after middle age is the main factor affecting the fit of ready-to-wear clothes, this study was designed to classify and analyze the torso shapes of middle-aged men. This study sorted 3D body scans of 200 men aged 40-64 from the 8th Size Korea (2021) database and extracted their 47 measurement values using the Grasshopper algorithm for automatic extraction landmarks and measurements, developed by the previous research (Ryu & Song, 2022). Eight principal components (torso length, shoulder size, overall body size, abdomen prominence, back protrusion, neck inclination, upper body slope, and hip prominence) were identified and four torso shapes were classified. Shape 1 (28.5%) exhibited the shortest torso length, the narrowest shoulders, and the most protruding back. Shape 2 (21.0%) exhibited the skinniest body and the largest backward inclination of the upper body. Hence, the back appeared to be protruding, and the abdomen looked prominent. Shape 3 (25.5%) had the largest overall body size. Thus, the abdomen looked the least protruding, and it exhibited the flattest back. Shape 4 (25.0%) had the longest torso, widest shoulders, straightest neck, and the least protruding hips. This study suggested these three discriminant functions to identify a new person's torso type.

  • This paper deals with a new methodology for topology optimization in which the topology of the design domain may change during the shape optimization process. To achieve this, the concept of the topological gradient is introduced to compute the sensitivity of an objective function when a small hole is drilled in the domain. Based on shape and topological sensitivity values, the shape and topology of the design domain may be simultaneously changed during design iterations if necessary. To verify the advantages and also to facilitate understanding of the method itself, two electrostatic design problems have been tested by using 2D finite element analysis: the first is the inverse problem of a simple dielectric model and the second is the rotor design of a MEMS actuator.
