Defocused Fourier plane holograms are stored in disk-type holographic memories where thin recording media are used, the areal storage density per hologram and the intensity uniformity of the signal beam at the recording plane are studied. As the pixel pitch of the spatial light modulator that represents binary data increases, the storage density per hologram increases if exact Fourier holograms are stored. When defocused Fourier plane holograms are stored, however, we show that there exists an optimal pixel pitch that maximizes the area storage density per hologram in general, to increase the areal storage density per hologram, f/# of the Fourier transform lens that focuses the data image should be as small as possible. In this case, not only the intensity distribution at the recording plane but also the recording area becomes very sensitive to the degree of defocusing. Therefore, even if the exact Fourier plane holograms are stored, the defocusing effect owing to the medium thickness should be taken into account to achieve the maximal areal storage density per hologram.logram.
The present research deals in two dimensional (2D) transversely isotropic magneto generalized thermoelastic solid without energy dissipation and with two temperatures due to time harmonic sources in Lord-Shulman (LS) theory of thermoelasticity. The Fourier transform has been used to find the solution of the problem. The displacement components, stress components and conductive temperature distribution with the horizontal distance are calculated in transformed domain and further calculated in the physical domain numerically. The effect of two temperature are depicted graphically on the resulting quantities.
In this work, the two-dimensional generalized magneto-thermoelastic problem of a fiber-reinforced anisotropic material is investigated under Green and Naghdi theory of type III. The solution will be obtained for a certain model when the half space subjected to ramp-type heating and traction free surface. Laplace and exponential Fourier transform techniques are used to obtain the analytical solutions in the transformed domain by the eigenvalue approach. The inverses of Fourier transforms are obtained analytically. The results have been verified numerically and are represented graphically. Comparisons are made with the results predicted by the presence and absence of reinforcement and magnetic field.
This paper describes the system for evaluating the sea wave informations such as wave direction and wave length in real time, by using image data obtained from the marine X-band radar. We proposed here a method for automatic selection of the partial image data without the user's individual selection at the radar. We also discussed that the wave direction could be obtained by a 2-dimensional discrete Fourier transform algorithm. We carried some evaluation works on the algorithm through computer simulation. The obtained thirteen radar image data under several sea surface conditions were analyzed by the method described and the result was presented.
Recently moored offshore vessels like as FPSO(Floating Production Storage Offloading) are frequently deployed in seas for a long time. For successful operation, the motion behavior of such a vessel in waves must be clarified in advance either theoretically or experimentally. It is of particular interest to examine the behavior, when swells are superposed to seas with different incident angle. Such a situation is actually reported in some offshore oilfield. In this paper, the motion of a FPSO in irregular waves including swells is studied in time domain. Hydrodynamic coefficients and wave forces are calculated in frequency domain using three-dimensional singularity distribution method. Time memory function and added mass at infinite frequency are derived by Fourier transform utilizing hydrodynamic damping coefficients. In the process, the numerical accuracy of added mass at infinite frequency is carefully examined in association with free decay simulations. It is found from numerical simulations that swells significantly affect the vertical motion of FPSO mainly because of their longer period compared to the ordinary sea waves. In particular, the roll motion is largely amplified because the dominant period of swell is closer to the roll natural period than that of seas.

An electromagnetic acoustic transducer (EMAT) is a unique probe that does not require a couplant or gel and also can usually generate or detect an ultrasonic wave into specimens across a small gap. It, therefore can be applied in a noncontact mode with a high degree of reproducibility. Especially stiffness of composites depends on layup sequence of CFRP(carbon fiber reinforced plastics) laminates. It is very important to evaluate the layup errors in prepreg laminates. A nondestructive technique can therefore serve as a useful measurement for detecting layup errors. This shear wave for detecting the presence of the errors is very sensitive. A decomposition model has been used in the interpretation and prediction of test results. Test results have been com pared with model data. It is found that the high probability shows between tests and the model utilized in characterizing cured layups of the laminates. Also a C-scan method was used for detecting layup of the laminates because of extracting fiber orientation information from the ultrasonic reflection caused by structural imperfections in the laminates. Therefore, it was found that interface C-scan images show the fiber orientation information by using two-dimensional fast Fourier transform (2-D FFT).
This paper presents a phase-based stereo matching algorithm in order to efficiently extract 3-dimensional objects from two 2D images. Conventional phase-based methods, especially using windowed Fourier phases, inherit good properties in the cage of hierarchical approaches, because they basically use a multi-resolution phase map. On the contrary, their computational cost is too heavy. Therefore, a fast hierarchical approach, using multi-resolution phase-based strategy and reducing redundancies of phase calculations based on FFT concept is proposed in this paper. In addition, a structural matching algorithm on the phase domain is presented to improve the matching quality. In experimental results. it is shown that the computation loads are considerably reduced about 8 times and stable outputs are obtained from various images.

This paper deals with the recognition of closed planar shape using a three dimensional spectral feature vector
which is derived from the FFT(Fast Fourier Transform) spectrum of contour sequence and fuzzy ARTMAP neural
network classifier. Contour sequences obtained from 2-D planar images represent the Euclidean distance between
the centroid and all boundary pixels of the shape, and are related to the overall shape of the images. The Fourier
transform of contour sequence and spectrum analyzer are used as a means of feature selection and data reduction.
The three dimensional spectral feature vectors are extracted by spectrum analyzer from the FFT spectrum. These
spectral feature vectors are invariant to shape translation, rotation and scale transformation. The fuzzy ARTMAP
neural network which is combined with two fuzzy ART modules is trained and tested with these feature vectors.
The experiments including 4 aircrafts and 4 industrial parts recognition process are presented to illustrate the high
performance of this proposed method in the recognition problems of noisy shapes.
A two-dimensional optical code division multiple access (OCDMA) en/decoder composed of four double-ring resonator add/drop filters and three delay waveguides is designed, and a transfer matrix method combined with fast Fourier transform is implemented to provide numerical simulations for the en/decoder. The auto-correlation peak level over the maximum cross-correlation level is larger than 3 at the center of the correctly decoded pulse for most of wavelength hopping and spectral phase code combinations, which assures the BER lower than 10-3 which corresponds to the forward error correction limit.

It is main objective of this approach to present a method to analyse stochastic design sensitivity for problems of structural dynamics with randomness in design parameters. A combination of the adjoint variable approach and the second order perturbation method is used in the finite element approach. An alternative form of the constant functional that holds for all times is introduced to consider the time response of dynamic sensitivity. The terminal problem of the adjoint system is solved using equivalent homogeneous equations excited by initial velocities. The numerical procedures are shown to be much more efficient when based on the fold superposition method: the generalized co-ordinates are normalized and the correlated random variables are transformed to uncorrelated variables, whereas the secularities are eliminated by the fast Fourier transform of complex valued sequences. Numerical algorithms have been worked out and proved to be accurate and efficient : they can be readily adapted to fit into the existing finite element codes whose element derivative matrices can be explicitly generated. The numerical results of two cases -2 dimensional portal frame for the comparison with reference and 3-dimensional frame structure - for the deterministic sensitivity analysis are presented.
