Characteristic Analysis of Al Films Grown on Plastic Substrates and Glass Substrates (고분자 플라스틱 기판과 유리 기판위에 증착한 알류미늄 박막 특성 분석)

  • Al films (1000~4000${\AA}$)were deposited on glass and polymer(polyethersulfine) plastic substrates by DC-magnetron sputtering for plastic-based flat-panel displays. A stepped heating process was used both to improve the electrical characteristics and to diminish the thermal expansion of the polymer substrates. Following this procedure, we could succeed in sputtering Al films without any cracking or shrinkage of the polymer substrates. The treatment temperatures and deposited process of Al films were under 200$^{\circ}C$. Also, this low temperature fabrication process allows the application of plastic substrates. Scanning Electrom Microscopy, Atomic Force Microscopy, X-ray Dffractometry, and electrical measurements such as resistivity measurements were performed to investigate the properties of deposited the Al films and their reliability.

  • Chalcopyrite구조의CIS 화합물은 직접천이형 반도체로서 높은 광흡수 계수 ($1\times10^5\;cm^{-1}$)와 밴드갭 조절의 용이성 및 열적 안정성 등으로 인해 고효율 박막 태양전지용 광흡수층 재료로 많은 관심을 끌고 있다. CIS 계 물질에 속하는 $Cu(InGa)Se_2$ (CIGS) 태양전지의 경우 박막 태양전지 중 세계 최고 효율인 20%를 달성한 바 있으며, 이는 기존 다결정 웨이퍼형 실리콘 태양전지의 효율에 근접하는 수치이다. 그러나 이러한 우수한 효율에도 불구하고 박막 증착시 동시증발장치 혹은 스퍼터링장치와 같은 고가 진공장비를 사용하게 되면 공정단가가 높을 뿐만 아니라 사용되는 재료의 20-50%의 손실을 감수해야만 한다. 또한 대면적 Cell제작에 어려움이 있기 때문에 기술개발 이후의 상용화 단계를 고려할 때 광흡수층 박막 제조 공정단가를 획기적으로 낮출 수 있고 대면적화가 용이한 신 공정 개발이 필수적이다. 이러한 관점에서 비진공 코팅방법에 의한 CIS 광흡수층 제조 기술은 CIS 태양전지의 저가화 및 대면적화를 가능케 하는 차세대 기술로 인식되고 있고 최근 급속한 발전을 이루고 있는 미세 입자 합성, 제어 및 응용 기술에 부합하여 많은 세계 연구기관 및 기업체에서 활발히 연구를 진행하고 있다. 비진공 방식에 의한 CIS 광흡수층 제조 기술은 전구체 물질의 형태에 따라 크게 입자형 전구체를 사용하는 방법과 용액 전구체를 사용하는 방법으로 나눌 수 있다. 본 연구에서는 용액 전구체를 paste 공정으로 실험하였다. 이는 용액전구체 물질 제조가 입자형 전구체 제조에 비해 매우 간단하고, 전구체 물질 내 구성원소의 원자비를 쉽게 조절할 수 있다는 장점 및 사용효율이 높아 소량의 source로도 박막 제작이 가능해 공정 단가 절감에 큰 효과가 기대되기 때문이다. 실험에 사용 된 용액전구체는 $Cu(NO_3)$$InCl_3$, $Ga(NO_3)$를 Cu, In, Ga 출발 물질로 선정하여 이를 메탄올에 완전히 용해시켜 binder인 셀룰로오즈와 메탄올을 섞은 용액과 혼합하여 전구체 슬러리를 형성하였다. 이 슬러리를 paste공정으로 precursor막을 입히고 저온 건조 후 Se 분위기에서 열처리하여 CIGS박막을 얻을 수 있었다. 박막의 특성을 XRD, SEM, AES, TGA등으로 분석하였다.

Development of Multiplex PCR Assay for Identification of Eight Species from Meats in Korea (국내에서 유통되는 8종의 식육감별을 위한 multiplex PCR법 개발)

  • Species identification of animal tissues in meat products is an important issue to protect the consumer from illegal and/or undesirable adulteration; for economic, religious and health reasons. In this reason, accurate analytical methods are needed for the labeling of meat products with requiring simple and fast procedure. Recently, applications of PCR in food analysis have been increased because of their simplicity, specificity and sensitivity. Therefore, in this study, a multiplex PCR assay was developed for the simultaneous identification of eight species of cow, pig, chicken, duck, goat, sheep, horse and turkey from raw meats. The primers were designed in different regions of mitochondrial 16S RNA after alignment of the available sequences in the GenBank database. Two multiplex primer sets were designed as Set 1 (cow, pig, chicken, duck) and Set 2 (goat, sheep, horse, turkey), respectively. Total 274 samples from cow (n = 55), pig (n = 30), chicken (n=30), and duck (n = 30), goat (n = 40), sheep (n = 33), horse (n = 41), and turkey (n = 15) were tested. The primers generated specific fragments of 94, 192, 279, 477 bp (pig, chicken, cow, duck), 670, 271, 152, 469 bp (goat, sheep, horse, turkey) lengths for eight species, respectively. The animal species specificity was 100% in all eight samples in the multiplex PCR assay. The detection limit of the multiplex PCR assay showed from 100 fg to 1 pg of template DNA from extracted from raw meats. When applying multiplex PCR assays to sample from pork/beef and pork/chicken, beef/chicken tested raw mixed meats and heat-treated ($83^{\circ}C$ for 30min, $100^{\circ}C$ for 20min, and $121^{\circ}C$ for 10min) mixtures, detection limit was 0.1% level beef, pork and pork in beef and chicken in pork and 1.0% level pork in chicken. This study suggest that the developed multiplex PCR assay can be used for rapid and simultaneous species identification of cow, pig, chicken, duck, goat, sheep, horse and turkey from meats.

  • Cells of Acinetobacter sp. strain JC1 DSM 3803, an aerobic monoxide-oxidizing bacterium, growing on glucose exhibited high catalase activity at the mid-exponential growth phase. The enzyme activity decreased gradually after then until the early stationary phase, increased again at the mid-stationary phase, and then decreased again thereafter. Cells growing on glucose was found to contain three kinds of catalses. Cat1, Cat2 and Cat3. The activities of Cat1 and Cat3 did change significantly during growth, but that of Cat2 exhibited significant variation. Cat3 was found to present only in cells growing on glucose, but not in cells growing on carbon monoxide of methanol. The activities of call and Cat3 in cell-free extracts were stable upon treatment with ethanol and chloroform, but decreased to some extent when the enzymewere treated with 2mM $H_2O_2$ and/or 3-amino-1,2,4-triazole (AT). Cat2 was found to be extremely sensitive to the ethanol-chloroform and $H_2O_2$ treatments, but was insensitive to the AT treatment. Cat1 exhibited enzyme activity after incubation for 1 min at 80$^{\circ}C$. Cat2 and Cat3 did not show enzyme activity after incubation for 1 min at 60$^{\circ}C$ and 70$^{\circ}C$, respectively. Cat2 was found to have peroxidase activity. Cat3 was purified to homogenity in seven steps. The molecular weight of the native enzyme was estimated to be 150,000. Sodium dodecyl sulfate-gel electrophoresis revealed two identical subunits of molecular weight 65,000. The enzyme was found to show two $K_m$ values of 39 mM and 58mM. The optimal pH for the enzyme activity was 7.0, but the activities at pH 6.0, 8.0, and 9.0, were found to be comparable to that at the optimal pH. The optimal temperature for the enzyme activity was found to be 40$^{\circ}C$. The enzyme also exhibited strong activity at 20$^{\circ}C$, 30$^{\circ}C$, and 50$^{\circ}C$. The purified enzyme was not affected by the ethanol-chloroform treatment. The enzyme, howerver, showed less than 10% of the original activity when it was treated with 12 mN AT, 0.1 mM $NaN_3$ of 1mM KCN.

Preparation of Semi-Solid Apple-Based Baby Food (반고형 사과 이유보충식의 제조)

  • To develop commercial semi-solid apple baby food, the physicochemical characteristics of apple puree in relation to different preparing methods and the effect of the addition methods of ascorbic acid on browning reaction were investigated. The preparing methods were classified into 3 groups by initial heating treatment: no heating (A), steaming at $120^{\circ}C$ (B), and blancing at $100^{\circ}C$ (C). The viscosity of tested apple puree was $2,600{\sim}5,856\;cp$, and contents of anhydrogalaturonic acid (AGA) and neutral sugar ranged $4.15{\sim}11.92\;mg%$ and $6.18{\sim}10.65\;mg%$, respectively. Among free sugars tested, level of fructose was the highest $(5.43{\sim}8.87%)$, followed by glucose $(2.11{\sim}4.23%)$, sucrose $(1.64{\sim}2.94%)$, in that order. Since small amounts of ascorbic acid were detected $(1.54{\sim}1.83\;mg%)$, it seemed to be lost by heating process in preparing of apple puree. For apple puree A, its lightness was lower and redness was higher than those of apple puree B and C. Its degree of browning of apple puree was so high that sodium ascorbic acid was added as a antibrowning agent. Puree had low sensory score and nutrient quality. The adding methods of ascorbic acid were classified into 4 groups by adding time: dipping, blending (2), heating (3), and blending + heating (4). Considering color and preference evaluation, preparing method B and adding method 2 showed the highest inhibitory activity on apple puree browning and desirable color for retort baby food. After retort sterilization, the viscosity of apple baby food was decreased from 3,477 cp to 2,294 cp, thiamin was destroyed completely, and the contents of riboflavin and ascorbic acid were decreased 41% and 21%, respectively. However, contents of free sugar and free amino acid and sensory parameter were not influenced by retort sterilization. In overall, the preparing method B-adding method 2 was a good processing condition for the retort apple baby food.

Improvement of Thermal Stability of In-situ Grown CoSi$_2$ Layer on Poly-Si Using Reactive Chemical Vapor Deposition (반응성 화학기상증착법에 의해 다결정실리콘 위에 직접성장된 $CoSi_2$ 층의 열적안정성의 개선)

  • The $CoSi_2$ layers have been in-situ grown on undoped poly-Si by the reactive chemical vapor deposition of $Co({\Eta}^5-C_5H_5)(CO)_2$ at $650^{\circ}C$ and their thermal stabilities have been investigated in the temperature range of 800 to $1000^{\circ}C$. The $CoSi_2$ layer grown by the in-situ method had grains with large area of (111) plane, while grains with little area of (111) plane appeared on the $CoSi_2$ layer grown by the conventional two-step method where $CoSi_2$ formed first and transformed to $CoSi_2$. The thermal stability of the $CoSi_2$ layer grown by the in- situ process was improved by more than $100^{\circ}C$ higher than that of the $CoSi_2$ layer grown by the conventional two-step process. The $CoSi_2$ layer grown in situ on a large-grained Poly-Si was stable up to $950^{\circ}C$. The effect of stability improvement by the in situ growth was more pronounced when the grain sizes of the poly-Si substrate were small. The improved thermal stability of the in-situ grown $CoSi_2$ layer could be mainly due to the formation of a uniform $CoSi_2$ layer with the $CoSi_2$ grains, which are in the form of epitaxial-like growth on the each poly-Si grains, causing a reduction of the interfacial energy of the system.

Environmental Impact Evaluation of Mechanical Seal Manufacturing Process by Utilizing Recycled Silicon from End-of-Life PV Module (태양광 폐모듈 실리콘을 재활용한 메커니컬 실 제조공정의 환경성평가)

  • An environmental evaluation was conducted by employing LCA methodology for a mechanical seal manufacturing process that uses recycled silicon recovered from end-of-cycle PV modules. The recycled silicon was purified and reacted with carbon to synthesize β-SiC particles. Then the particles underwent compression molding, calcination and heat treatment to produce a product. Field data were collected and the potential environmental impacts of each stage were calculated using the LCI DB of the Ministry of Environment. The assessment was based on 6 categories, which were abiotic resource depletion, acidification, eutrophication, global warming, ozone depletion and photochemical oxidant creation. The environmental impacts by category were 45 kg CO2 for global warming and 2.23 kg C2H4 for photochemical oxide creation, and the overall environmental impact by photochemical oxide creation, resource depletion and global warming had a high contribution of 98.7% based on weighted analysis. The wet process of fine grinding and mixing the raw silicon and carbon, and SiC granulation were major factors that caused the environmental impacts. These impacts need to be reduced by converting to a dry process and using a system to recover and reuse the solvent emitted to the atmosphere. It was analyzed that the environmental impacts of resource depletion and global warming decreased by 53.9% and 60.7%, respectively, by recycling silicon from end-of-cycle PV modules. Weighted analysis showed that the overall environmental impact decreased by 27%, and the LCA analysis confirmed that recycling waste modules could be a major means of resource saving and realizing carbon neutrality.

Recent Research Status of Postharvest Management of Broccoli (브로콜리 수확후 관리의 최근 연구 동향)

  • Broccoli is considered as one of the functional foods to offer a hearty supply of the nutrient-rich vegetable in the world. Broccoli contains high level of phytochemicals, and that is selected as one of the top 10 vegetables for human health promotion. Especially, glucosinolates and flavonoids are well known as anti free oxygen radicals in vegetables and fruits. In Korea, broccoli consumption has increased to well known on the health-beneficial vegetables since 2000. However, broccoli has many problems of postharvest management since the quality of harvested heads quickly declines. Major problems are the floret yellowing, wilting, off-odor, and decay. The multiple postharvest applications improve broccoli quality and cold treatment including pre-cooling extends on the shelf-life with circumstance of optimum storage which is 0℃ temperature and a range of 95-100% relative humidity. Controlled atmosphere or modified atmosphere packaging can be used as supplemental treatments to extend postharvest life. 1-2% O2 + 5-10% CO2 is currently recommended for broccoli. Postharvest management is important for broccoli because price fluctuations depend on harvest time and quality. In this study, we tried to review physiological change of broccoli after the harvest, storage method, and various techniques to optimize quality during distribution.

The Effect of Au Addition on the Hardening Mechanism in Ag-20wt% Pd-20wt% Cu (Ag-20wt% Pd-20wt% Cu 3원합금(元合金) 및 Au첨가합금(添加合金)의 시효경화특성(時效硬化特性))

  • The Ag-Pd-Cu alloys containing a small amount of Au is commonly used for dental purposes, because this alloy is cheaper than Au-base alloys for clinical use. However, the most important characteristic of this alloy is age-hardenability, which is not exhibited by other Ag-base dental alloys. The specimens used were Ag-20Pd-20Cu ternary alloy and Au addition alloy. These alloys were melted and casted by induction electic furace and centrifugal casting machine in Ar atmoshpere. These specimens were solution treated for 2hr at $800^{\circ}C$ and were then quenched into iced water, and aged at $350{\sim}550^{\circ}C$ Age-hardening characteristics of the small Au-containing Ag-pPd-Cu dental alloys were investigated by means of hardness testing, X-ray diffraction and electron microscope observations, electrical resistance, differential scanning calorimetric, emergy dispersed spectra and electron probe microanalysis. Principal results are as follows : Hardening occured in two stages, I. e., stage I in low temperature and stage II in high temperature regions, during continuous aging. The case of hardening in stage I was due to the formation of the Llo type face centered tetragonal PdCu-ordered phase in the grain interior and hardening in stage I was affedted by the Cu concentration. In stage II, decomposition of the $\alpha$ solid solution to a PdCu ordered phase(L1o type) and an Agrich ${\alpha}2$ phase occurred and a discontiunous precipitation occurred at the grain boundary. Form the electron microscope study, it was concluded that the cause of age-hardening in this alloy is the precipitation of the PdCu ordered phase, which has AuCu I type face-centered tetragonal structure. Precipitation procedure was ${\alpha}\to{\alpha}+{\alpha}2+PdCu\to{\alpha}1+{\alpha}2+PdCu$ at Pd/Cu = 1 Ag-Pd-Cu alloy is more effective dental alloy as ageing treatment and is suitable to isothermal ageing at $450^{\circ}C$.

The Activity Changes and Properties of ${\beta}$-Galactosidase in Ripening Tomato Fruits (성열중(成熱中) Tomato 과실(果實)의 ${\beta}$-Galactosidase의 활성변화(活性變化)와 그 특성(特性))

  • The activity changes and biochemical properties of ${\beta}$-gal in tomato fruits during ripening were investigated. The total activity was increased during ripening and three isoenzymes (${\beta}$-gal I, II and III) were purified through DEAE Sephadex A-50 and Sephadex G-100 column chromatography. The activities of ${\beta}$gal isoenzymes (${\beta}$-gal I, II and III) during ripening were 69.8, 31.8 and 170.0 units in mature green phase, while those were 48.7, 88.4 and 136.8 units in Red phase, respectively. As the ripening proceeded the activities of ${\beta}$-gal I and III were some what decreased but the activity of ${\beta}$-gal II was incresed more than 2.8 fold. The optimum pH of ${\beta}$-gal I, II and III were 3.9, 4.2 and 3.9 and the optimum temperature of those were $60^{\circ}C$, $56^{\circ}C$ and $60^{\circ}C$, respectively. All isoenzymes were stable at pH 3.6~6.0 and lost their activity about 50% when it heated at $55^{\circ}C$ for 5 minute. $Mg^{{+}{+}}$-activated the three isoenzymes but $Ca^{{+}{+}}$ and SDS inhibited about 30~40%. $Hg^{{+}{+}}$ inhibited completely. The km value of ${\beta}$-gal I, II and III was 0.36mM, 0.63mM and 0.45mM, reaction rate was rapidly increased until the concentration of substrate was $6.0{\times}10^{-5}M$.
