Phonological phrase boundary and word frequency that influence the phonological word recognition (음운구 경계와 단어빈도가 한국어 음운단어 재인에 미치는 영향)

  • This study investigated the interaction between phonological phrase boundary and word frequency variable in Korean speech processing. A word monitoring task was performed to examine the interference caused by the frequency effect of target word depending on whether a phonological phrase is formed within the target word. Frequency of target word (high vs low) and phonological phrase boundary (within target word vs between target words) were applied as between and within subject condition respectively. Our results showed the significant main effect of the phonological phrase boundary and the significant interaction. In the post-hoc analysis, the high-frequency target words were detected significantly faster than the low-frequency target words only in the within phonological phrase boundary condition. Frequency effect in the between phonological phrase boundary condition did not appear. The results indicated that the phonological phrase boundary and word frequency variable played an important role in Korean speech processing. In particular, we discussed the possibility of processing the word frequency at the very early sensory information processing stage based on the interaction of two experimental factors.

Egyptian learners' learnability of Korean phonemes (이집트 한국어 학습자들의 한국어 음소 학습용이성)

  • This paper examines the perception of Korean phonemes by Egyptian learners of Korean and presents the learnability gradient of Korean consonants and vowels through High Variability Phonetic Training (HVPT). 50 Egyptian learners of Korean (27 low proficiency learners and 23 high proficiency learners) participated in 10 sessions of HVPT for Korean vowels, word initial and final consonants. Participants were tested on their identification ability of Korean vowels, word initial consonants, and syllable codas before and after the training. The results showed that both low and high proficiency groups did benefit from the training. Low proficiency learners showed a higher improvement rate than high proficiency learners. Based on the HVPT results, a learnability gradient was established to give insights into priorities in teaching Korean sounds to Egyptian learners.

A Method of Automated Quality Evaluation for Voice-Based Consultation (음성 기반 상담의 품질 평가를 위한 자동화 기법)

  • In a contact-free society, online services are becoming more important than classic offline services. At the same time, the role of a contact center, which executes customer relation management (CRM), is increasingly essential. For supporting the CRM tasks and their effectiveness, techniques of process automation need to be applied. Quality assurance (QA) is one of the time and resource consuming, and typical processes that are suitable for automation. In this paper, a method of automatic quality evaluation for voice based consultations is proposed. Firstly, the speech in consultations is transformed into a text by speech recognition. Then quantitative evaluation based on the QA metrics, including checking the elements in opening and closing mention, the existence of asking the mandatory information, the attitude of listening and speaking, is executed. 92.7% of the automated evaluations are the same to the result done by human experts. It was found that the non matching cases of the automated evaluations were mainly caused from the mistranslated Speech-to-Text (STT) result. With the confidence of STT result, this proposed method can be employed for enhancing the efficiency of QA process in contact centers.

Characteristics of Steam Gasification and Combustion of Naphtha Tar Pitch (납사타르피치의 연소 및 수증기 가스화 반응특성)

  • Characteristics of steam gasification and combustion of naphtha tar pitch, which is the bottom product of naphtha cracking process, were investigated by using the thermo gravimetric analyzer to develop the technology for obtaining syngas by using the naphtha tar pitch as a carbon source. Friedman's and Ozawa-Flynn-Wall method were used to calculate activation energy, reaction order and frequency factor of reaction rate constant for both of steam gasification and combustion. The activation energy of combustion of naphtha tar pitch based on the fractional conversion by Friedman's method was in the range of 41.58 ~ 68.14 kJ/g-mol when the fractional conversion level was in the range of 0.2~0.6, but 183.07~191.17 kJ/g-mol when the conversion level was 0.9~1.0, respectively. In case of steam gasification of naphtha tar pitch, the activation energy was in the range of 31.87~44.87 kJ/g-mol in the relatively lower conversion level (0.2~0.6), but 70.63~87.79 kJ/g-mol in the relatively higher conversion level (0.8~0.95), respectively. Those results exhibited that the steam gasification as well as combustion would occur by means of two steps such as devolitilization followed by combustion or gasification.

  • 우리가 간단히 사용하는 언어는 실제적으로 아주 복잡한 진행과정을 가지고 있다. 사전상의 각 어휘는 대화상황에서 상호 작용하는 초기단계의 역할을 하며, 표현은 과거나 현재에 행해지는 대화상황 및 대화참여자의 발화 과정에서 생기는 일종의 일체감을 표시한다. 의사 소통을 한다는 것은 단어나 문장에 대한 다양한 의미와 각각의 개념에서 지시되는 표현을 수단으로 발생하는 대화상의 연관성을 의미한다. 이러한 모든 것은 의사소통에 있어 의미의 다양성과 관련을 맺고있다. 우리는 표현을 통하여 매우 복잡하고 다양한 양상들을 볼 수 있다. 대화내용에 따라 똑같은 표현들이 서로 다르게 이해될 수 있기 때문이다. 언어는 단지 사람이 행하는 언어처리의 일부만을 보여줄 뿐이다 언어를 처리하는데 있어서 문제가 되는 것은 매우 복잡하고 구성적인 진행과정이다. 청자는 의사소통이 진행되는 과정에서 활자와 함께 주어진 정보를 처리함으로써 상황을 내적 형상화하게 된다. 따라서 청자는 표현의 의미를 이해하려고 노력하며, 다양한 방법을 동원한 지식을 사용한다. 의사소통에 있어서 통사적$\cdot$의미적인 지식, 문맥에 맞는 대화지식 혹은 일반 지식을 대화상황에 맞게 적용하는 것이 그 예라 할 수 있다. 지시적 언어의 표현은 사전적으로 고정된 단어의 의미를 규정하거나 또는 이와 같은 단어의 의미에 정확하고 적절한 지시사를 규정하는 근거가 된다. 인칭$\cdot$장소$\cdot$시간을 지시하는 언어 Personal-, Lokal-, Temporaldeixis는 언어 시스템을 형성하게 되는데, 활자와 청자는 이러한 표현을 인칭$\cdot$장소$\cdot$시간으로 형상화하면서 의사소통을 한다. 따라서 자연어의 처리과정에 나타나는 다양한 표현들에 대한 심리학 및 언어학의 강력한 연구가 요구된다.에 기대어 텍스트, 문장, 어휘영역 등이 투입되어 적용되었으며, 이에 상응되게 구체적인 몇몇 방안들이 제시되었다. 학습자들이 텍스트를 읽고 중심내용을 찾아내며, 단락을 구획하고 또한 체계를 파악하는데 있어서 어휘연습은 외국어 교수법 측면에서도 매우 관여적이며 시의적절한 과제라 생각된다. The effects of repeated speech training using speech cues on the percentage of correct consonants and speech intelligibility in children with cerebral palsy: A single-subject design research (Speech cues를 이용한 반복훈련이 뇌성마비 아동의 자음정확도 및 말명료도에 미치는 영향: 단일대상연구)

  • This single-subject study examined the effects of repetitive speech training at the word and sentence levels using speech cues on the percentage of correct consonants (PCC) and speech intelligibility of children with cerebral palsy (CP). Three children aged between 5-8 years with a history of CP participated in the study. Thirty-minute intervention sessions were provided four times a week for four weeks. The intervention included repeated training of words and sentences containing target phonemes using two instructions of speech cues, "big mouse" and "strong voice". First, the children improved their average PCC and speech intelligibility, but an effect size analysis indicated that the effect was different for each child, and the effect size for speech intelligibility was higher than for PCC. Second, the intervention effect was generalized to untrained words and sentences. Third, the maintenance effects of PCC and speech intelligibility were very high. These findings suggests that repeated speech training using speech cues is an intervention technique that can help improve PCC and speech intelligibility in children with CP.

Epistemological Implications of Scientific Reasoning Designed by Preservice Elementary Teachers during Their Simulation Teaching: Evidence-Explanation Continuum Perspective (초등 예비교사가 모의수업 시연에서 구성한 과학적 추론의 인식론적 의미 - 증거-설명 연속선의 관점 -)

  • In this study, I took the evidence-explanation (E-E) continuum perspective to examine the epistemological implications of scientific reasoning cases designed by preservice elementary teachers during their simulation teaching. The participants were four preservice teachers who conducted simulation instruction on the seasons and high/low air pressure and wind. The selected discourse episodes, which included cases of inductive, deductive, or abductive reasoning, were analyzed for their epistemological implications-specifically, the role played by the reasoning cases in the E-E continuum. The two preservice teachers conducting seasons classes used hypothetical-deductive reasoning when they identified evidence by comparing student-group data and tested a hypothesis by comparing the evidence with the hypothetical statement. However, they did not adopt explicit reasoning for creating the hypothesis or constructing a model from the evidence. The two preservice teachers conducting air pressure and wind classes applied inductive reasoning to find evidence by summarizing the student-group data and adopted linear logic-structured deductive reasoning to construct the final explanation. In teaching similar topics, the preservice teachers showed similar epistemic processes in their scientific reasoning cases. However, the epistemological implications of the instruction were not similar in terms of the E-E continuum. In addition, except in one case, the teachers were neither good at abductive reasoning for creating a hypothesis or an explanatory model, nor good at using reasoning to construct a model from the evidence. The E-E continuum helps in examining the epistemological implications of scientific reasoning and can be an alternative way of transmitting scientific reasoning.

A Study on English Article Errors in College Students' Writing (대학생 영작문에 나타난 관사 오류연구)

  • This study investigates why Korean English speakers misunderstand the English article system, which article Korean EFL learners use more accurately in their English writings, and implications for English writing instruction from Korean EFL learners' utterances. There have been numerous studies on the acquisition of English article system by non-native English speakers. Those studies agree that acquiring English articles is difficult for learners of English as a second language. As a result, in this study, many English learners use the definite and indefinite articles a/an. Many wrote articles from their writings, and occasionally, errors of excessive use of definite articles occurred. Through this, this paper investigates how a Korean English learner whose native language has no articles chooses the English article system in speech. It is based on the elicited production of the Korean English learner and suggests some implications for teaching English writing in the classroom. When English instructors teach Korean English learners to write English, it is more important than anything else to practice the correct usage of definite articles or indefinite articles.

퇴적 마그네슘의 승온속도와 열분해특성

  • 마그네슘은 스마트폰, 전자기기 케이스, 내화벽돌과 아크용접봉 제조시의 첨가물 등으로 사용되고 있는데, 최근에는 재활용을 위한 마그네슘 용해로를 취급하거나 가공하는 사업장이 증가하고 있어 사고위험성이 높아지고 있다. 금속분을 취급하는 사업장에서의 금속분진은 저장이나 축적 등과 같이 주로 퇴적물로서 존재한다. 퇴적분진의 발화온도는 퇴적물 형상과 두께, 입경, 분위기 가스의 유속, 산소농도, 부유분진의 농도, 퇴적밀도, 수분 등의 많은 영향인자가 관여하기 때문에 이론적 예측이 힘들고 실험적인 측정에 의존할 수 밖에 없는 것이 현실이다. 본 연구에서는 연소성이 높고 화재폭발사고사례가 많은 마그네슘(Mg) 분진을 사용하여 승온속도 변화에 따른 열분해특성을 조사하였다. 퇴적분진의 열적특성을 조사하기 위하여 METTLER TOLEDO의 TGA/DSC1를 사용하였으며, Mg 시료의 평균입경은 38, $142{\mu}m$이다. 입경 $38{\mu}m$의 Mg 시료의 열중량분석 결과, 중량증가는 $400{\sim}500^{\circ}C$의 범위에서 시작되며 $550^{\circ}C$에서 급격하게 중량이 증가하고 있으며, 증량증가개시온도(Temperature of weight gain)는 $460^{\circ}C$에서 시작하여 $900{\sim}950^{\circ}C$ 범위에서 중량 증가 포화값에 도달하였다. 입경 $142{\mu}m$의 Mg에 대하여 공기중 승온속도를 5, 10, $20^{\circ}C/min$으로 변화시키면서 실온에서 $900^{\circ}C$까지 가열 시키는 경우의 시료의 중량 변화에 따른 열분해 특성은 승온속도가 증가할수록 2단계의 S자 곡선은 완만하게 상승을 나타내며 중량증가개시온도가 높아지는 경향을 보이고 있다. 중량증가개시온도가 승온속도에 따라 변화하는 결과를 나타내고는 있지만, 시료량의 증가에 따른 영향을 열중량분석 실험방법의 제약으로 인하여 확인할 수 가 없었다. 그러나 만일 시료량이 크게 증가하는 경우에는 동일한 승온조건에서 중량증가 개시온도는 낮아질 가능성이 있다. 중량증가는 시료의 산화반응에 의한 것이므로 시료량의 증가는 시료 내부에의 열의 축적을 용이하게 하여 보다 낮은 온도에서도 산화반응이 충분히 일어나는 조건이 형성되기 때문이다. 승온속도가 증가할수록 산화 반응한 괴상형태의 연소입자가 크게 증가하고 있는 것을 알 수 있다. 승온속도에 따른 중량개시온도 곡선을 보면 [그림 24]와 같으며 승온속도 5, 10, $20^{\circ}C/min$의 증가에 따라 중량개시온도는 각각 490, 510, $530^{\circ}C$가 얻어졌으며 승온속도의 증가에 따라 중량개시온도가 증가하는 경향을 보이고 있다.

Effects of a singing program using self-voice monitoring on the intonation and pitch production change for children with cochlear implants (자가음성 모니터링을 응용한 가창 프로그램이 인공와우이식 아동의 억양과 음고 변화에 미치는 영향)

  • The purpose of this study was to examine how a singing program using self-voice monitoring for children with cochlear implants (CI) influences on the intonation and the accuracy of pitch production. To verify and estimate the effectiveness, a program was conducted with participants of 7 prelingual CI users, whose aged between 4 years and 7 years. The program adopted three stages from the self-voice monitoring: Listen, Explore, and Reproduce (LER stage). All participants received 8 singing sessions over 8 weeks, including pre-test, intervention, and post-test. For the pre and post-test, participants' singing of an excerpt of a song "happy birthday" and speaking three assertive sentences and three interrogative sentences were recorded and analyzed in terms of the intonation slopes at the end of the sentences and the melodic contour. From the sentence speeches, we found that the intonation slopes of the interrogative sentences significantly improved as they showed similar patterns with that of the average normal hearing group. Also, in regard to singing, we observed that the melody contour had progressed, as well as the range of pitch production had extended. The positive result from the intervention indicates that the singing program was effective for children with CI to develop the intonation skill and accuracy of pitch production.
