This study was designed to investigate the stress distribution of alveolar bone in case of on masse retraction with lingual K-loop archwire using the 3-dimensional photoelastic stress analysis followed by stress freezing process. Lingual K-loop archwire which had loop in 15mm height was used and activated by retraction force of 350gm per each side. The results were as follows 1. Central incisor : As the closer side to crown, the larger tensile stress was distributed at both mesial and labial surfaces and the larger compressive stress was distributed at distal surface. As the closer side to root apex, the larger compressive stress was distributed at lingual surface. The compressive stress was distributed at root apex. 2. Lateral incisor : The tensile stress was distributed at the coronal side of mesial surface. The compressive stress was distributed at distal surface. As the closer side to crown, the larger tensile stress was distributed at labial surface. The tensile stress was distributed at coronal side and the compressive stress was distributed at apical side of lingual surface. The compressive stress was distributed at root apex. 3. Canine The tensile stress was distributed at coronal side and the compressive stress was distributed at apical side of mesial surface. The tensile stress was distributed at distal surface. As the closer side to crown, the larger tensile stress was distributed at both mesial and distal surfaces. The compressive stress was distributed at root apex. 4. Second premolar : The tensile stress was distributed at mesial surface. The compressive stress was distributed at coronal side and the tensile stress was distributed at apical side of distal surface. The compressive stress was distributed at coronal side of buccal surface. As the closer side to crown, the larger tensile stress was distributed at lingual surface. The compressive stress was distributed at root apex. 5. First molar . As the closer side to crown, the larger tensile stress was distributed at both mesial and distal surfaces. No stress was distributed at buccal surface and palatal root apex. As the closer side to crown, the larger tensile stress was distributed at both lingual surfaces. The compressive stress was distributed a4 buccal root apexes. 6. Second molar The compressive stress was distributed at all root apexes. As the closer side to crown, the larger compressive stress was distributed at both mesial and lingual surfaces, and the larger tensile stress at both distal and buccal surfaces. Transverse bowing effect was observed in on-masse retraction with lingual K-loop archwire, however vertical towing effect was not. Rather, reverse vortical bowing effect was developed.
In this paper, the stress, buckling and vibration analyses have been performed for several case with the spot weld stiffened rear side frame, the unstiffened rear side frame and the dual thickness laser weld rear side frame. For stress and vibration analyses, the clamped boundary condition with spring supports are used. But for the buckling analyses, the both ends simply supported boundary conditions are used. For the nummerical analyses, ANSYS 5.0 code is adopted. Maximum stress of the spot weld stiffened rear side frame occurs in the main frame and is 80.9 MPa. Maximum strain is 501 .mu.. The maximum stress of the dual thickness laser weld rear side frame of 1.8mm thickness structure is equal with the stress of spot weld stiffened frame. The weight of dual thickness laser weld frame can be reduced about 17.2%. For the stiffened spot weld rear side frame with both ends simply supported boundary conditon, the bucking load is 52.54 kN. When the thickness of the dual thickness laser weld rear side frame become 1.9mm thickness structure, the buckling load of the stiffenerd rear side frame is equal to that of dual thickness laser weld frame. The reduction of the structure weight is about 5%. The fundamental natural frequency of the stiffened spot weld rear side frame for bending mode is 163.6 Hz and that of the dual thickness laser weld rear side frame is 179.8 Hz.

This study investigates the result of thermal stress analysis on disk rotor by classes at bike brake. In the analysis result of thermal deformation at the steady state, maximum deformations at models 1, 2 and 3 are 0.14347mm, 0.15823mm and 0.16028mm respectively. The deformation becomes larger as the field goes on from the center to the outside at disk rotor. As there are models 1, 2 and 3 in the order of maximum deformation, model 1 has safest among three models. In the analysis result of thermal stress at steady and transient states, there are models 1, 2 and 3 in the order of maximum stress. Model 1 becomes most excellent on strength and safety among three models. By using the analysis result of disk rotor model at bike disk, it is possible to design the model applied practically at the safe driving of bike.
Thermal stress-induced failure in the free edge region of various thin carbon/epoxy composite laminates(1mm thick) has been investigated using the three-dimensional finite-element stress analysis, ultrasonic C-scan and microscopic observations. High thermal in-plane and interlaminar stresses were predicted in the interior layer near the free edge boundaries of the laminates. In the interior lamina, not in the skin lamina, of the thin laminates with lay-up of $[0_2/90_2]_s,\;[45_2/-45_0]_s,\;[0_2/60_2]_s$ treated by liquid $N_2$ immersion, many transverse matrix cracks took place due to thermal stress concentration, which agreed qualitatively with the above predictions.
Many investigators have tried to represent the nonlinear behavior of stress-strain relationship of concrete using mathematical curves. Most of empirical expressions for stress-strain relationship, however, have focused on old age concrete, and were not able to represent well the behavior of concrete at an early age. Where wide understanding on the behavior of concrete from early age to old age is very important in evaluating the durability and service life of concrete structures. In this paper, effect of 5 different strength levels and ages of from 12 hours to 28 days on compressive stress-strain relationship was observed experimentally and analytically. Tests were carried out on $\phi$100${\times}$200mm cylindrical specimens water-cured at 20${\pm}$3$^{\circ}C$. An analytical expression of stress-stain relationship with strength and age was developed using regression analyses on experimental results. For the verification of the proposed model, the model was compared with present and existing experimental data and some existing models. The analysis shows that the proposed model predicts well experimental data and describes well effect of strength and age on stress-strain relationship.

The tooth shapes of serration-type and spline-type reactors are optimized using finite element methods to improve the working life of the part and to lower the stress concentration during rotation resulting from contact with the outer race for a reactor operating with $170^{\circ}C$ transmission oil. The results of thermal expansion analyses between an Al reactor and the steel outer race indicate that, before optimization, the gap between the two parts increases further as the serration-type reactor expands by 0.1 mm and the spline-type one strains by 0.08 mm. Because of shape optimization, a trapezoidal shape is obtained from the initial triangular serration and the rectangular spline of the two reactors. The maximum von Mises stress of the serration-type convertor decreased by 24.5 %, and by 9.3 % for the spline-type convertor. In addition, there is a 13 % reduction in the axial thickness, as compared to the initially designed model.
Optimal orthodontic treatment could be possible when a orthodontist can predict and control tooth movement by applying a planned force system to the dentition. The moment to force(M/F) ratio at the bracket, has been shown to be a primary determinate of the pattern of tooth movement. As various n/F ratios are applied to the bracket on the tooth crown, strain distribution in periodontium can be changed, and the center of rotation in tooth movement can be determined. It is, therefore, so important in clinicalorthodontics to know the strain distribution in a force system of a M/F ratio. The purpose of this study was to analyze the strain distribution in orthodontic force system by strain gauge attached to tooth root, and to evaluate the usage of the method. For this study, an experimental upper anterior arch model was constructed, where upper central incisors, on the root surface of which, 8 strain gauges were attached, were implanted In the photoelastic resin, as in the case of 4mm midline diastema. Three types of closing of upper midline diastema closure were compared : 1. with elastomeric chain(100g force) in no arch wire, 2. elastomeric chain in .016“ round steel wire, 3. elastomeric chain in .016”x.022“ rectangular steel wire. The results were as follows. 1. Strain distributions on labial, lingual, mesial and distal root surface of tooth were able to be evaluated with the strain gauge method, and the patterns of tooth rotation were understood by presuming the location of moment arm. 2. Extrusion and tipping movement of tooth was seen in closing in no arch wire, and intrusion and bodily movement was seen with steel arch wire inserted.
Eighteen oriented samples from the Jeongsun limestone of the Joseon Supergroup are collected. The orientations of C-axis of calcite and e twin plane, the average thickness, numbers of twins and the widths of calcite grains in 10 samples are measured. Then, the twin strain, mean width, intensity of twin and relative magnitude and orientations of principal stresses are calculated using Calcite Strain Gauge program. Twin strain, mean width and intensitv rainge between 0.801%~10.927%, $0.43{\mu\textrm{m}}~2.03{\mu\textrm{m}}$, and 33.5~113.4twim/mm, respectively. Metamorphic temperatures calculated from twin show below $70^{\circ}C$, indicating that twins were developed within 2.3km depth. In five samples, two events with different orientations of principal stress produced calcite twins, while only one event produced calcite twins in five samples. The direction of the maximum stress is almost horizontal and the minimum is almost vertical, indicating that the stress regirne is identical with thrust fault. E-W and NW-SE are the most dominant directions of comressive stress and N-S and NE-SW directions are also shown. Comparision between paleostress orientations measured in the study and others indicates that the maximum horizontal stress oriented to E-W may represent the paleostress of period either from the Silurian to the Triassic or from the Silulian to the Permian. Paleostress oriented to NW-SE may be the major direction of stress during the Daeho orogeny.
Purpoose: For decades dental implants have been used widely in the field of prosthetic dentistry. However there is confusion when establishing treatment plans in cases where some teeth are remained but an insufficient number of implants can be used due to limited anatomical status and ecomomical problems. Many clinicians have tried to connect natural teeth and implants, and it still has controversy. But, there have been few studies on mechanical analysis of connecting natural teeth and implants with konus telescopic removable partial dentures. The purpose of this study was to analyze the stress distribution of prosthesis, abutment and alveolar bone when teeth and implants were connected with the konus telescopic denture, by means of 3-dimensional finite element analysis. Material and methods: The assumption of this study was that there were 2 mandibular canine (11 mm in length, 4 mm in diameter) and 2 implants(10 mm in length, 4 mm in diameter) which are located in the second premolar region. The mandible, teeth, implants, abutments, and connectors are modeled, and analyzed with the commercial software, ANSYS Version 8.1(Swanson, Inc., USA). The control group used implants instead of natural teeth. 21038 elements, 23544 nodes were used in experimental group and 107595 elements, 21963 nodes were used in control group, Stress distribution was evaluated under 150 N vertical load on 3 experimental conditions - between teeth and implants (Load case 1), posterior to implants (Load case 2), between natural teeth (Load case 3). Results: 1. In all load cases, higher von mises stress value was observed in the experimental group. 2. Maximum von miss stress observed in all load cases and all locations were as follows ; a. 929.44 Mpa in the experimental group, 640.044 Mpa in the control group in outer crown and connector - The experimental group showed 1.45 times high value compared with the control group. b. 145,051 Mpa in the experimental group, 142.338 Mpa in the control group in abutment - The experimental group showed 1.02times high value compared with the control group. c. 32.489 Mpa in the experimental group, 25.765 Mpa in the control group in alveolar bone - The experimental group showed 1.26times higher value compared with the control group. 3. All maximum von mises stress was observed in load case 2, and maxim von mises stress in alveolar bone was 32.489 Mpa at which implant failure cannot occur. 4. If maximum von mises stress is compared between two groups, the value of the experimental group is 1.02 times higher than the control group in abutment, 1.26 times higher than the control group in alveolar bone. Conclusion: If natural teeth and implants are connected with the konus telescopic denture, maximum stress will be similar in abutment, 1.26 times higher in alveolar bone than the control group. With this result, there may be possible to make to avoid konus telescopic dentures where natural teeth and implants exist together.
