A mixed convection heat transfer from two vertical parallel plates has been studied numerically by the finite difference method. Effects of the Grashof number, the relative length, $L_2/L_1$. the dimensionless temperature ratio, ${\Phi}_2/{\Phi}_1$ and the dimensionless plate spacing, $b/L_1$ are examined for the heat transfer. Independent of the Grashof numbers and $L_2/L_1$, the dimensionless vertical velocity distributions skewed on the left plate as ${\Phi}_2/{\Phi}_1$ decreased. The dimensionless vertical velocity distribution for $Gr/Re^2=1$ and ${\Phi}_2/{\Phi}_1=1.0$ is skewed to the right plate $L_2/L_1=0.5$, symmetric at $L_2/L_1=1.0$ and skewed to the left plate at $L_2/L_1=1.5$. But for $Gr/Re_2=10.0$ and ${\Phi}_2/{\Phi}_1=1.0$ reversed velocity patterns are obtained. Regardless of the Grashof numbers and $L_2/L_1$, the mean Nusselt nembers on the inside surface of the left plate decreases and those of the right inside surface increases as ${\Phi}_2/{\Phi}_1$ increases. Temperature, velocity and mean Nusselt number distributions are apparently not affected by $L_2/L_1$.
Long-term monitoring was conducted to identify the runoff characteristics of non-point source according to the three forest types (deciduous forest, coniferous forest and mixed forest) in this study. Rainfall events of each deciduous forest, coniferous forest, and mixed forest were 10, 8, 12, respectively. Average runoff depth and coefficients of each forest type were founded to be coniferous forest and were followed by others in turns : deciduous forest, and mixed forest because various conditions (i.e., rainfall property, Antecedent Precipitation Index (API), soil property, slope, and forest management) could change runoff characteristics. In the analysis of the first flush phenomenon, it showed that SS and T-P were sensitive for the first flush phenomenon. The first flush phenomenon of them were showed differently by rainfall intensity, rainfall duration, and amount of rainfall. The research results indicated that range of the Event Mean Concentration (EMC) values in deciduous forest were 0.8~2.4 mg/L for $BOD_5$, 2.0~13.4 mg/L for $COD_{Mn}$, 1.3~2.9 mg/L for DOC, 1.150~3.913 mg/L for T-N, 0.010~0.350 mg/L for T-P and 3.1~291.8 mg/L for SS and in coniferous forest were 0.8~2.2 mg/L for $BOD_5$, 1.9~3.6 mg/L for $COD_{Mn}$, 1.0~2.0 mg/L for DOC, 1.025~2.957 mg/L for T-N, 0.002~0.084 mg/L for T-P and 0.8~5.4 mg/L for SS. Also, range of the EMC values in mixed forest were 1.3~2.3 mg/L for $BOD_5$, 2.4~4.8 mg/L for $COD_{Mn}$, 1.1~2.1 mg/L for DOC, 0.385~2.703 mg/L for T-N, 0.016~0.080 mg/L for T-P and 2.3~30.0 mg/L for SS.
The antibacterial activity of low concentrations of clove (Eugenia caryophyllata Thumb) in culture broth against Listeria monocytogenes and Salmonella typhimurium was tested at 35, 5, and -20$^{\circ}C$. Tryptic soy broth (TSB) containing 0∼0.5% (w/v) of clove was inoculated with 10$\^$5/∼10$\^$7/ cell/ml of L. monocytogenes and S. typhimurium and incubated at each temperature. The growth of L. monocytogenes occured only after a prolonged lag period at 0.1% clove at 35$^{\circ}C$, while viabilities of the cells decreased by 1.4 and 3.3 log cycles at 0.3 and 0.5% clove, respectively. Growth of S. typhimurium occured at the presence of 0∼0.5% clove after a longer lag period with increasing concentration of clove at 35$^{\circ}C$. During refrigerated storage at 5$^{\circ}C$, the growth of L. monocytogenes occured after 6 days of lag period at 0.1% clove while viability of the cells were decreased during 24 days of storage. During frozen storage at -20$^{\circ}C$, the viability of L. monocytogenes and S. typhimurium decreased about 4 log cycles during 3 days of early period of storage at 0.1% clove. There were no major changes in the population of L. monocytogenes and S. typhimurium in TSB with different concentrations of clove during frozen storage.
Endotoxin, also known as lipopolysaccharide (LPS) produced by the cell wall of gram negative bacteria can be present in any liquid or on any biomaterial. Endotoxin in blood can cause fever and inflammation. In this study, we compared bacterial endotoxin using Escherichia coli O157:H7, Klebsiella oxytoca, Salmonella Typhi, Shigella sonnei and Morganella morganii. Bacteria were cultured for use in the experiment, and diluted to $1.5{\times}10^8CFU/mL$. A check marked sensitivity confirmatory test of the Limulus amebocyte lysate (LAL) reagent was performed to examine the validity. The end point reaction to each bacteria sample was confirmed with 10 fold dilution and then the final reaction end point was confirmed by 2 fold dilution between the dilution step and the upper dilution step. According to the results, in detection of endotoxins in more than 0.015 EU/mL, E. coli O157 was 75~37.5 CFU/mL, K. oxytoca 37.5~18.75 CFU/mL, M. morganii and S. Typhi 3.75~1.875 CFU/mL, and S. sonnei 7.5~3.75 CFU/mL. The resulting value was finally ensured by a confirmation test for the inhibitory factor. Based on this study, conduct of further research on bacterial endotoxin is encouraged.
For the clonal proliferation of Gentiana scabra Bunge. which is one of the medicinaland ornamental plant, establishment multiplication of shoot through tissue culture technique and transplantation into soil were carried out. The shoot proliferation increased on the MS medium containing 0.5mg/l NAA and 0.5mg/l BAP. Optimum pH for shoot growth was pH 5.9, consequently MS medium supplemented with 2g/l activated charcoal was most effective for plant growth. There are two types of somaclonal variants, tall type was 63% and dwarf type was 37%.

Induction of regeneration and maturation of the free-living gametophytes of Saccharina japonica was studied at four temperatures (5, 10, 15 and $20^{\circ}C$), four levels of irradiance (5, 10, 20 and $40{\mu}mol\;m^{-2}\;s^{-1}$) and three photoperiods (14 : 10, 12 : 12 and 10 : 14 h L : D). Female gametophyte fragments were maintained in active regeneration without reaching sexual maturity under conditions of $15^{\circ}C$, $20{\mu}mol\;m^{-2}\;s^{-1}$, 10 : 14 h (L : D), whereas the conditions for male gametophytes were slightly different at $15^{\circ}C$, $5{\mu}mol\;m^{-2}\;s^{-1}$, 14 : 10 h (L : D). The sexual maturation of female and male gametophytes took place under $5^{\circ}C$, $20{\sim}40{\mu}mol\;m^{-2}\;s^{-1}$, 10 : 14 h (L : D) and $15^{\circ}C$, $40{\mu}mol\;m^{-2}\;s^{-1}$, 10 : 14 h (L : D), respectively. These results provide basic information for controlling the regenerationand maturation of free-living gametophytes for strain improvement and cross breeding of S. japonica.

The induction of regeneration and the maturation of the free-living gametophytes of Undaria pinnatifida were studied at temperatures(5, 10, 15 and $20^{\circ}C$), irradiance (5, 10, 20 and $40{\mu}mol\;photons\;m^{-2}\;s^{-1}$) and photoperiods (14 : 10, 12 : 12 and 10 : 14 h L: D). Female gametophyte fragments were maintained in active regeneration without them reaching sexual maturity under conditions of $15^{\circ}C$, $20{\mu}mol\;photons\;m^{-2}\;s^{-1}$, 10 : 14 h (L : D); by contrast, the conditions for male gametophytes were slightly different at $15^{\circ}C$, $5{\mu}mol\;photons\;m^{-2}\;s^{-1}$, 14 : 10 h (L: D). The sexual maturation of female and male gametophytes took place under $5^{\circ}C$, $20-40{\mu}mol\;photons\;m^{-2}\;s^{-1}$, 10 : 14 h (L : D) and $15^{\circ}C$, $40{\mu}mol\;photons\;m^{-2}\;s^{-1}$, 10 : 14 h (L : D), respectively. These results provide basic information for controlling the regeneration and maturation of free-living gametophytes for srain improvement as well as the cross breeding of U. pinnatifida.

Bumblebees are widely used to pollinate crops in greenhouses and fields. Here, we investigated whether different wake-up treatments during a short period of 1~3 days just before indoor rearing has any effects on oviposition and colony development of $CO_2$-treated Bombus ignitus queens and artificially hibernated B. terrestris queens The wake-up regimes were defined as 16L for 1 day (16L-1), 16 L per day for 3 days (16L-3), 24L for 1 day (24L-1), or 24D for 1 day (24D-1). Among these wake-up treatments, the oviposition rate and preoviposition period of B. ignitus queens reared at 24L-1 were 16.7~25.1% higher and 1.0~3.5 days shorter than other wake-up treatments. B. terrestris queens reared at 24L-1 also showed the best results for egg-laying characteristics, which were 8.9~18.8% higher for oviposition and 0.6~3.5 days shorter for preovipostion period than other wake-up treatments. Furthermore, B. terrestris queens reared at 24L-1 were 17.5% and 13.8% higher in rate of colony foundation and queen production, respectively, than other wake-up treatments. These results show that the most favorable wake-up treatment just before rearing for egg-laying and colony developmental characteristics of B. ignitus and B. terrestris queens was 24L-1. Overall, our findings indicate that a wake-up treatment just before rearing was effective for colony initiation and colony development of bumblebee queens.

The role of L-glutamic acid, a precursor of $C_5$ ALA biosynthetic pathway, on the production of 5-aminolevulinic acid (ALA) has been described in cells of Rhodospirillum rubrum N-1. To the Lascelles basal medium the addition of both 30 mM L-glutamicacid and 20 mM levulinic acid (LA) provided to increase the extracellular ALA yield up to 40 fold (76 mg/l). By the addition of both 60 mM glycine and succinic acid, precursorsof $C_4$ ALA biosynthetic pathway, at middle log phase of cell growth ALA yield was increased 27 fold (52 mg/l) although the celt growth was inhibited to a certain extent.
Investigation of leptospiral antibody in Korean cattle and pigs was carried out from February to October, 1971. Ten different living antigens, namely L. icterohaemorrhagiae, L. canicola, L. antumnalis, L. hebdomadis, L. australis A, L. pomona, L. pyrogenes, L. grippotyphosa, L. bataviae and L. javanica, were used. A total of 590 Korean cattle and 460 pig blood samples collected from Seoul Majang-dong slaughterhouse were tested by the rapid microscopic agglutination test. Throughout the studies the following results were obtained and summarized. 1. Of 590 serum samples of Korean cattle 51 were positive(8.64%). 2. Of 460 serum samples of pigs 27 were positive (5.87%). 3. Of 51 positive cattle samples, 29(4.92%) showed antibody to a serotype of L. icterohaemorrhagiae and 18(3.0%) to L. canicola, and 4 (0.68%) to L. pomona. Eight of L. icterohaemorrhagiae positive samples showed a cross reaction to L. canicola. 4. Of 27 positive pig samples, 14(3.04%) showed antibody to L. ictereohaemorrhagiae and 7(1.52%) to L. grippotyphosa. 4(0.87%) to L. canicola, 2(0.43%) to L. pomona. Two of L. canicola positive samples showed a cross reaction to L. grippotyphosa. 5. Serum samples of seven pigs, showing antibody positive to L. grippotyphosa were first observed in Korea. 6. Infection rate of bovine and porcine leptospirosis, in Korea, appeared to be lower than that of Japan, Taiwan, Thailand and the Philippines.
