Isolates of Phytophthora infestans obtained from several locations of Kangwon area in 1998 and 1999 were examined on mating types and sensitivity to metalaxyl. Both A1 and A2 mating type isolates were isolated in 1998 and 1999. The majority of the P. infestans isolates were A1 mating type. About 64.3% of the isolates collected in 1998 and 99.1% in 1999 were determined as A1 mating type. Sensitivity of the P. infestans to metalaxyl was examined by measuring mycelial growth on V8 juice agar amended with $10{\mu}g/mL$ matalaxyl. About 44.6% of the isolates examined in 1988 were resistant to metalaxyl, 55.4% of the isolates were intermediate resistant, but sensitive isolate was not isolated. However, 10.5% of the isolates examined in 1999 were sensitive, 88.6% of the isolates were intermediate resistant, and 0.9% of the isolates were resistant to metalaxyl. This studies indicate that A1 mating type is displacing A2 mating type and metalaxyl sensitivity of the P. infestans isolates of Kangwon area is increasing. This result is quite different from trends of early in 1990s.

연간 원유생산량 약 200만톤, 1998년 6월 1일부터 인하하였다고 치면 200만톤의 12분의 7인 117만톤, $5.4\% 인하시 톤당 가격은 29,036원이며 1998년에만도 약 340억원, 1999년도 약 580억원의 혜택을 본 셈이고, 이중에서 약 20억원을 각출하자는 것이었는데 무임승차자가 있었다는 것은 한번 깊이 반성해 보아야할 대목이 아닌가 싶다.

산성물질들은 구름이나 안개가 생성될 때 내부로 녹아 들어가거나, 비가 내릴 때 녹아 들어가 구름, 안개, 비 중에 많은 양이 존재하며, 이 과정이 기체상 물질들이 대기 중에서 제거되는 주요한 과정이다. 구름이나 안개, 비 중에서 직접 산성오염물질이 생성되는 액상반응도 있고, 주로 아황산가스의 산화반응이 기여하고 있다고 알려져 있다(Hegg and Hobbs, 1978). 이렇게 생성된 대기 중 산성물질들은 대기에서 지표면으로 내려와 식물, 하천수, 호소수, 토양, 건축물 등에 영향을 준다.(중략)

Occurrence of rust on 2 representative garlic cultivars Daeseo and N므애 in major cultivating regions of Goheung-gun, Jeonnam and Namhae-gun, Gyeongnam was investigated during 1998-1999. Rust disease severities of garlic ranging from 1.2 to 85.8 were quite different according to the investigating years and cultivars. Relatively high rust severities of garlic were observed in 1998 compared with 1999. This might be due to remarkably frequent rainfalls and high humidities during the growing seasons of garlic in 1998. Rust occurred severely on cultivar Daeseo but not on cultivar Namdo. This shows quite different susceptibility or resistance to rust among the cultivars of garlic. Increase of rust severities resulted in remarkable decrease in yields of garlic. It is assumed that rust might cause serious damages in the cultivation of garlic.
