  • This paper is studied the fast block mode decision algorithm for H.264/AVC. The fast block mode decision algorithm is consist of block range decision and merge algorithm. The block range decision algorithm classifies the block over 8$\times$8 size or below for 16$\times$16 macroblock to decide the size and type of sub blocks. The block over 8$\times$8 size is divided into the blocks of 16$\times$8, 8$\times$16 and 16$\times$16 size using merging algorithm which is considered MVD(motion vector difference) of 8$\times$8 block. The sub block range decision reduces encoding arithmetic amount by 48.25% on the average more than the case not using block range decision.

  • The adsorption of reactive orange 16 (RO 16) dye by activated carbon was investigated using the amount of adsorbent, pH, initial concentration, contact time and temperature as adsorption variables. The investigated process parameters were separation coefficient, rate constant, rate controlling step, activation energy, enthalpy, entropy, and free energy. The adsorption of RO 16 was the highest at pH 3 due to the electrostatic attraction between the cations (H+) on the surface of the activated carbon and the sulfonate ions and hydroxy ions possessed by RO 16. Isotherm data were fitted into Langmuir, Freundlich and Temkin isotherm models by applying the evaluated separation factor of Langmuir (RL=0.459~0.491) and Freundlich (1/n=0.398~0.441). Therefore, the adsorption operation of RO 16 by activated carbon was confirmed as an appropriate removal method. Temkin's adsorption energy indicated that this adsorption process was physical adsorption. The adsorption kinetics studies showed that the adsorption of RO 16 follows the pseudo-second-order kinetic model and that the rate controlling step in the adsorption process was the intraparticle diffusion step. The positive enthalpy change indicated an endothermic process. The negative Gibbs free energy change decreased in the order of -3.16 <-11.60 <-14.01 kJ/mol as the temperature increased. Therefore, it was shown that the spontaneity of the adsorption process of RO 16 increases with increasing temperature.

  • In this paper, we propose a new $4{\times}4$ intra coding method by unidirectional prediction for improvement of intra-frame coding efficiency of H.264/AVC. There are $4{\times}4$, $8{\times}8$, and $16{\times}16$ intra prediction modes in the current H.264/AVC. For the $4{\times}4$ intra prediction, coding efficiency is achieved by accurate prediction with small block size in relatively complicated regions, and the $16{\times}16$ intra prediction method can predict more accurately compared to $4{\times}4$ intra prediction with only one directional information in relatively homogeneous regions. We propose a unidirectional $4{\times}4$ intra prediction method adopting a small-size prediction and one directional prediction approaches. In order to improve coding efficiency, the proposed method is conducted by $4{\times}4$ block and their prediction directions are all the same, resulting that we need to send only one directional information for each macroblock. For intra-frame coding setting, we achieve 10.47% and 1.57% coding efficiency in BD-bitrate for only $16{\times}16$ intra mode and $4{\times}4$, $16{\times}16$ intra mode, respectively.

  • Hydrocarbons in dry soup base and its ingredients in instant noodle were analyzed to determine whether the analysis of hydrocarbons is a potential method to detect post-irradiation of the soup base. Soup base ingredients were irradiated individually, irradiated before mixing, or mixed after irradiation. Lipids were extracted with hexane and hydrocarbons were separated from the lipids through Florisil column. The hydrocarbons were analyzed with GC. Hydrocarbons C17:2, C16:3, C17:1, and C16:2 were detected in palm oil, red pepper powder, and sesame seeds irradiated at 10 kGy, but not in unirradiated ones. C17:2, C16:3, C17:1, and C16:2 were not detected in the soup base mixture of unirradiated ingredients. The four hydrocarbons were detected in the soup base mixture using irradiated palm oil or sesame seeds. In the mixture using irradiated red pepper powder, C17:2 and C16:3 were detected. When the soup mixture was irradiated after mixing unirradiated ingredients, C17:2, C17:1, and C16:2 were detected in the sample irradiated at 1 kGy, and C17:2, C16:3, C17:1, and C16:2 were in large amounts at 5 and 10 kGy.

  • The crystallographic site dependent substitution of $^{18}O$ for $^{16}O$ in $Bi_{2}Sr_{2}Ca_{0.8}Y_{0.2}Cu_{2}^{16}O_{8+\delta}$ has heen investigated. In the Kaman spectra of $Bi_{2}Sr_{2}Ca_{0.8}Y_{0.2}Cu_{2}^{16}O_{8+\delta}$ three prominent Raman bands are observed at 297. 464, and $623cm^{-1}$. As the $^{16}O$ arc replaced hy $^{18}O$, all the three bands shift to lower wavewnumbers. The rate of this isotopic shift is similar for the hands at 397 and $464cm^{-1}$. whereas it is quite slower for the hand at $623cm^{-1}$ '['his implys that the $^{16}O-^{18}O$ exchange reaction is crystallographic sites dependent. .Assuming a tetragonal symmetry, we assign the bands at 623. 464, and $297cm^{-1}$ to the vibrations of $O_{pl}(A_{g}),\;O_{ap}\;and\;O_{Bi}$ respectively.

  • Purpose: It has been suggested that p16 has a role in glucocorticoid (GC)-related apoptosis in leukemic cells, but the exact mechanisms have yet to be clarified. We evaluated the relationship between the GC response and p16 expression in a lymphoma cell line. Methods: We used p16 siRNA transfection to construct p16-inactivated cells by using the B-cell lymphoblast cell line NC-37. We compared glucocorticoid receptor (GR) expression, apoptosis, and cell viability between control (p16+NC-37) and p16 siRNA-transfected (p16-NC-37) cells after a single dose of dexamethasone (DX). Results: In both groups, there was a significant increase in cytoplasmic GR expression, which tended to be higher for p16+NC-37 cells than for p16- NC37 cells at all times, and the difference at 18 h was significant (P<0.05). Similar patterns of early apoptosis were observed in both groups, and late apoptosis occurred at higher levels at 18 h when the GR had already been downregulated ($P$<0.05). Cell viability decreased in both groups but the degree of reduction was more severe in p16+NC-37 cells after 18 h ($P$<0.05). Conclusion: These results suggest a relationship between GR expression and cell cycle inhibition, in which the absence of p16 leads to reduced cell sensitivity to DX.

  • Background: Esophageal squamous cell carcinoma (ESCC) is a common cancer in the north east of India. The present study concerned the prevalence of human papilloma virus (HPV) in the ESCC in north eastern India and its impact on response to chemotherapy. Materials and Methods: p16 expression, a surrogate marker for HPV infection was assessed in 101 pre-treatment biopsies of locally advanced ESCC, reported from a comprehensive cancer centre in north east India, using immunohistochemistry. All patients received neo-adjuvant chemotherapy. Response was assessed clinically and histopathologically with attention to p16 expression. Results: p16 was expressed in 22% of ESCC (22 out of 101) and was more prevalent in patients who were more than 45 years of age (P=0.048). p16 positive tumors appeared more commonly in the upper 2/3 of the thoracic esophagus (18 in 22). Nine of the 22 (41%) p16 positive tumors achieved pathologic complete response following neo-adjuvant chemotherapy (P=0.008). There was a trend towards reduced mortality in this group (P=0.048). Some 9 of the 20 (45%) patients who achieved pathologic complete response were p16 positive. Conclusions: Expression of p16 in ESCC correlates with higher rate of pathologic complete remission in patients undergoing neo adjuvant chemotherapy and could be a predictive marker for response assessment.

  • The interaction of chemoattractant receptors and $G{\alpha}_{16}$ was studied to provide the molecular basis to elucidate the interaction of chemoattractant receptors with $G{\alpha}_{16}$ subunit, thereby possibly contributing to finding novel targets for designing new type of G protein antagonists with anti-inflammatory effects. Experiments were performed to characterize the $G{\alpha}_{16}$ subunit domains responsible for efficient coupling to chemoattractant receptors. Thus, a series of chimeric $G{\alpha}_{11}G{\alpha}_{16}$ and $G{\alpha}_{16}G{\alpha}_{11}$ cDNA constructs were expressed, and the ability of chimeric proteins to mediate C5a, IL-8, and fMLP-induced release of inositol phosphate in transfected Cos-7 cells was tested. The results showed that short stretches of residues 154 to residue 167 and from residue 174 to residue 195 of $G{\alpha}_{16}$ contribute to efficient coupling to the C5a receptor. On the other hand, a stretch of amino acid residues 220-240 of $G{\alpha}_{16}$ that is necessary for interacting with C5a receptor did not play any role in the interaction with IL-8 receptor. However, a stretch from residue 155 to residue 195 of $G{\alpha}_{16}$ was found to be crucial for efficient coupling to IL-8 receptor in concert with C-terminal 30 amino acid residues of this ${\alpha}$ subunit. Coupling profiles of a variety of chimeras, composed of $G{\alpha}_{11}G{\alpha}_{16}$ to fMLP receptor indicate that the C-terminal 30 amino acids are most critical for the coupling of $G{\alpha}_{16}$ to fMLP receptor. Taken together, $G{\alpha}_{16}$ subunit recruits multiple and distinctive coupling regions, depending on the type of receptors, to interact.

  • Background: The $p16^{INK4a}$ is a protein that expressed in Liquid-based cervical cytology specimens and has been proved link to cervical cancer. The $p16^{INK4a}$ could be detection by piezoelectric immunosensor and the immobilization of the $p16^{INK4a}$ antibody influence the sensitivity of the piezoelectric immunosensor. Materials and Methods: $5{\mu}L$ mouse polyclonal antibody against $p16^{INK4a}$ was bound onto the surface of immonosensor through two methods. (directly immobilized method; protein A method). Absorb of the $p16^{INK4a}$ antibody on the surface of immonosensor caused a shift in the resonant frequency of the immunosensor and The frequency changes recorded showed a better reproducibility. The activity of the immobilization antibody with the directly method and protein A method was tested with $p16^{INK4a}$ antigen. Results: The resonant frequency for different antibody immobilization methods were different, and the sensitivity for $p16^{INK4a}$ detection also different. Conclusions: The protein A method was found to be much more better than the directly method for the immobilization of the p16INK4A antibody on the gold electrode of the quartz crystal for cervical lesion detection. The Protein A method created more reproducible and stable immobilization antibody layers with p16INK4A antigen.
