  • Media representations of race have attempted to contain blackness by packaging and commodifying it to reflect and affect preconceptions and prejudices of dominant culture. From the early beginnings of blackface minstrelsy as entertainment form in the $19^{th}$ century, representations of African Americans in popular culture and mainstream media have been closely associated with the notion of performance. The performative nature of racial representations is situated within the discursive struggle over what it meant to be Black, or what it meant to be labeled and portrayed as Black in American culture. This essay discusses four films that contain performances of "blackness" that assemble race and gender in complex configurations: Bamboozled (Spike Lee, 2000), Girl 6 (Spike Lee, 1996), Big Momma's House (Raja Gosnell, 2000), and White Chicks (Keenen Ivory Wayans, 2004). I explore how the performative nature of "blackness" is emphasized, thematized, and problematized in these films through the physicality of corporeal figures that embody the close link between race and gender identities. Once we are cognizant of the fact that race and gender are fabricated cultural constructs and performative acts, we can recognize that notions of "blackness" and "femininity" are not naturalized or essentialist, but open to recontextualization and revision.

  • 『Hasimdangga Eumsikbeop』 is the second cookbook discovered in the Honam region. It is believed to have been copied by Hong Ju-song between the late 1800s and early 1900s, and excluding the missing parts, it contains a total of 14 items, including 7 liquor items and 7 general food items. Judging from the proofreading marks, it was not considered a complete creation. However, it was confirmed that the book was not influenced by existing ancient cookbooks from the Seoul-Gyeonggi, Chungcheong, and Yeongnam areas. Therefore, it is highly likely that the book was based on an undiscovered recipe book from an ancient family. It is valuable as a basis for comparative research on regional food culture in the traditional era in that the manufacturing methods, ingredient quantities, and description methods are different from existing cookbooks in many ways and contain unique terminologies and regional dialects.

  • Government ships, the ships owned by a state and operated for non-commercial purposes (hereinafter, government ships) are entitled to sovereign immunity. In accordance with sovereign immunity under traditional international law, states enjoy immunity from the jurisdiction of courts of another state. Sovereign immunity is the general principle accomplished through judicial cases and international treaties since the 19th century. The problem is that the restriction of jurisdiction on foreign government ships in Korean jurisdictional waters is a considerable threatening factor on the maritime security situation. In spite of dubious intention of foreign government ships, the counter measures should be limited because of sovereign immunity.

  • The word 'chintz' is thought to be a corruption of spotted cloth. Printing remained a relatively primitive method of decorating textiles in Europe until the second half of the 17th century. The formation of the English East India Company sparked the influx into the West of painted and printed Indian cotton textiles. A William Sherwin took out the first English patent in 1676. The earlist European designs were florals in the Indian manner. Patterns of European flowers returned to England as birds, flowers, trees, vines and stained glass for Victorian chintz. In France, the original and most successsful manufacturer of the distinctive printed fabrics from Jouy was Christophe Philippe Oberkampf. Copperplate printing was introduced to Jouy in 1770, probably reaching the pinnacle of achievement in the craft after 1783 when Jean-Baptiste Huet became chief designer. Huet's style was widely imitated in France and abroad, and the term 'toile de Jouy' has come to be universally applied to monochrome figurative designs wherever and by whomsoever they were produced. Oberkampf served his apprenticeship as an engraver with some leading manufacturers, including a period in Mulhouse. In Alsace, which was not part of France until 1798, the first factory had opened in 1746 in Mulhouse, and the area soon had the largest number of print-works in France.

  • COVID-19 is considered the worst pandemic of the beginning of the 21st century. Among the ASEAN countries, Indonesia has the second highest number of active cases and is ranked 23th in the world in active cases as of August 14, 2020. The number of people becoming infected in Indonesia continues to grow along with fear and panic conditions that have negative impacts on Indonesian society. Therefore, efforts to deal with the conditions should be made. This study aims to explore the experience of patients with COVID-19 experiences during the treatment process. This study used literature and video clip analysis of 14 cases. Data were analyzed using content analysis. The results were presented in the following five themes (i) experience of receiving a diagnosis (I am shocked, how could I get infected?, suggestive thinking between dead or alive, and uncertainty of the test result), (ii) boredom during isolation, (iii) being stigmatized and discriminated against, (iv) self-reflection with God, and (v) social support from family members and healthcare workers. This study serves as an input to increase the chances of the recovery of the patients with COVID-19.

  • In the 21th century, audiences were fascinated with stereoscopic 3d in the theaters again. Since 2009, interest in stereoscopic 3D had been increased explosively, but shortfall in stereoscopic 3D contents is yet to be solved. However, despite shaky conditions in broadcasting businesses, stereoscopic 3D movies are released steadily in Hollywood. And the movies with strong storytelling are performing in the film market, so common point among them is that stereoscopic 3d techniques are used for subserving narrative immersion effectively. Therefore, stereoscopic 3D techniques will be helpful for enhancing narrative immersion. So I researched relations between immersion and stereoscopic 3D, and proposed space planning process for enhancing narrative immersion in stereoscopic 3D.

  • Worn by both males and females the kimono is the national dress of Japan. Previous research highlights that this national dress is fading from tradition and evolves to develop with the times and fashion trends. This research aims to investigate what a kimono represents both historically and currently within Western society. The idea of the kimono being more than a national dress representing Japan, the main three themes researched will be (1) Shape (2) Narrative (3) Journey from East to West. Based on both primary and secondary sources this research indicates that there is a strong relationship between the universal increase of kimono wearers in Eastern and Western societies from history through to present day. Primary research is utilised in the form of two types of interviews. Primary outcomes bring a personal perspective to how and why kimono is worn nowadays within Europe. Secondary sources include online lectures held by kimono specialists as well as subject relevant books. From the 19th century where the Dutch were the only European country to trade with Japan, an exchange of fabrics took place which later led to the exchange of: fit, fashion and pattern (primarily within Western womenswear fashion.) This distinct garment never gets discontinued and evolves with social demands within society today.
