Active galactic nuclei (AGN) are known for irregular variability on all time scales, down to intra-day variability with relative variations of a few percent within minutes to hours. On such short timescales, unexplored territory, such as the possible existence of a shortest characteristic time scale of activity and the shape of the high frequency end of AGN power spectra, still exists. We present the results of AGN single-dish fast photometry performed with the Korean VLBI Network (KVN). Observations were done in a “anti-correlated” mode using two antennas, with always at least one antenna pointing at the target. This results in an effective time resolution of less than three minutes. We used all four KVN frequencies, 22, 43, 86, and 129 GHz, in order to trace spectral variability, if any. We were able to derive high-quality light curves for 3C 111, 3C 454.3, and BL Lacertae at 22 and 43 GHz, and for 3C 279 at 86 GHz, between May 2012 and April 2013. We performed a detailed statistical analysis in order to assess the levels of variability and the corresponding upper limits. We found upper limits on flux variability ranging from ~1.6% to ~7.6%. The upper limits on the derived brightness temperatures exceed the inverse Compton limit by three to six orders of magnitude. From our results, plus comparison with data obtained by the University of Michigan Radio Astronomy Observatory, we conclude that we have not detected source-intrinsic variability which would have to occur at sub-per cent levels.

The Pan-European Digital Audio Broadcasting(DAH) system's performance is characterized and improved with the aid of turbo codec. From the fact that the first bit among the four coded bits at the RCPC coding defined in the Eureka 147 DAD system is not. punctured and always transmitted, this paper proposes a new turbo coded DAB system model that replaces the existing RCPC codec by a turbo codec without modifying the puncturing procedure and puncturing vectors defined in the standard DAB system for compatibility. The performance of a new system is compared to that of the conventional system under the Rician fading channel and the Rayleigh fading channel in conjunction with DAD transmission mode I and III suitable for the terrestrial single frequency network and satellite broadcasting.
The purpose of this study is to improve the method of evaluating groundwater recharge by using grid-based soil moisture routing technique. A model which predicts temporal variation and spatial distribution of soil moisture on a daily time step was developed. The model uses ASCII-formatted map data supported by the irregular gridded map of the GRASS(Geographic Resources Analysis Support System)-GIS and can generate daily and monthly spatial distribution map of surface runoff, soil moisture content, evapotranspiration within the watershed. The model was applied to Ipyunggyo watershed($75.6\;\textrm{km}^2$) located in the upstream of Bocheongchun watershed. Seven maps; DEM(Digital Elevation Mode]), stream, flow path, soil, land use, Thiessen network and free groundwater level, were used for input data. Predicted streamflows resulting from two years (l995, 1996) daily data were compared with the observed values at the watershed outlet. The results of temporal variations and spatial distributions of soil moisture are presented by using GRASS GIS. As a final result, the monthly predicted groundwater recharge was presented.sented.

A network of Asynchronous Transfer Mode (ATM) will be required to carry the traffics(CVR, VBR, UBR, ABR) generated by a wide range of services. The algorithm of WRR cell multiplexing is designed to serve no only CBR, VBR traffic but also ABR, UBR traffic in ATM. BSW algorithm was Proposed to carry on manage buffer efficiently at implementing of WRR scheduler. But, BSW a1gorithm cause serious degradation to the weight of each VC and the ratio of scheduler throughput because it allocates more weight than the weight allocated actually in VC and because it could not serve cell if the VC queue is empty. In this paper, we propose the WRR scheduling algorithm of BSW structure which improves the cell service ratio and cell delay. The proposed algorithm is capable of maintaining an allocated VC's weight correctly and decrease of average cell delay by serving other VC cell when empty in each VC queue and increase of cell service ratio as a whole.
As a valid numerical method to obtain a high-resolution result of a flow field, computational fluid dynamics (CFD) have been widely used to study coolant flow and heat transfer characteristics in fuel rod bundles. However, the time-consuming, iterative calculation of Navier-Stokes equations makes CFD unsuitable for the scenarios that require efficient simulation such as sensitivity analysis and uncertainty quantification. To solve this problem, a reduced-order model (ROM) based on proper orthogonal decomposition (POD) and machine learning (ML) is proposed to simulate the flow field efficiently. Firstly, a validated CFD model to output the flow field data set of the rod bundle is established. Secondly, based on the POD method, the modes and corresponding coefficients of the flow field were extracted. Then, an deep feed-forward neural network, due to its efficiency in approximating arbitrary functions and its ability to handle high-dimensional and strong nonlinear problems, is selected to build a model that maps the non-linear relationship between the mode coefficients and the boundary conditions. A trained surrogate model for modes coefficients prediction is obtained after a certain number of training iterations. Finally, the flow field is reconstructed by combining the product of the POD basis and coefficients. Based on the test dataset, an evaluation of the ROM is carried out. The evaluation results show that the proposed POD-ROM accurately describe the flow status of the fluid field in rod bundles with high resolution in only a few milliseconds.

The Chah-Nimeh reservoirs, which are a sort of natural lakes located in the border of Iran and Afghanistan, are the main drinking and agricultural water resources of Sistan arid region. Considering the occurrence of intense seasonal wind, locally known as levar wind, this study aims to explore the possibility to provide a TSM (Total Suspended Matter) monitoring model of Chah-Nimeh reservoirs using multi-temporal satellite images and in-situ wind speed data. The results show that a strong correlation between TSM concentration and wind speed are present. The developed empirical model indicated high performance in retrieving spatiotemporal distribution of the TSM concentration with R2=0.98 and RMSE=0.92g/m3. Following this observation, we also consider a machine learning-based model to predicts the average TSM using only wind speed. We connect our in-situ wind speed data to the TSM data generated from the inversion of multi-temporal satellite imagery to train a neural network based mode l(Wind2TSM-Net). Examining Wind2TSM-Net model indicates this model can retrieve the TSM accurately utilizing only wind speed (R2=0.88 and RMSE=1.97g/m3). Moreover, this results of this study show tha the TSM concentration can be estimated using only in situ wind speed data independent of the satellite images. Specifically, such model can supply a temporally persistent means of monitoring TSM that is not limited by the temporal resolution of imagery or the cloud cover problem in the optical remote sensing.
The purpose of this study was to develop the psychology-based naturalistic competency curriculum so that forest-related experts could fully play the role of a mediator between nature(forest) and human(visitors). The curriculum was designed in three parts: a pleasant life, a wise life, and a meaningful life. Contents were focused on recognizing and naming one's senses and emotions in nature, discovering nature-related memories and Naturalistic Intelligence, experiencing the flow in nature and activating the Default Mode Network. The curriculum supplemented by expert's advice was implemented as job training for forest-related experts, and the curriculum was finally revised by examining the understanding and utilization of the participants. As a result, the curriculum in three areas of emotion, cognition, and practice was completed. It is expected that this curriculum will be upgraded through evaluation in the future so that forest-related experts can provide more qualitative service by strengthening their naturalistic competency.

Evidence suggests that the human respiratory tract, as with the gastrointestinal tract, has evolved to its current state in association with commensal microbes. However, little is known about how the airway microbiome affects the development of airway immune system. Here, we uncover a previously unidentified mode of interaction between host airway immunity and a unique strain (AIT01) of Staphylococcus epidermidis, a predominant species of the nasal microbiome. Intranasal administration of AIT01 increased the population of neutrophils and monocytes in mouse lungs. The recruitment of these immune cells resulted in the protection of the murine host against infection by Pseudomonas aeruginosa, a pathogenic bacterium. Interestingly, an AIT01-secreted protein identified as GAPDH, a well-known bacterial moonlighting protein, mediated this protective effect. Intranasal delivery of the purified GAPDH conferred significant resistance against other Gram-negative pathogens (Klebsiella pneumoniae and Acinetobacter baumannii) and influenza A virus. Our findings demonstrate the potential of a native nasal microbe and its secretory protein to enhance innate immune defense against airway infections. These results offer a promising preventive measure, particularly relevant in the context of global pandemics.
Switching phenomenon of a three-waveguide optical coupler was analyzed by using the coupled mode theory, and the coupling-length of the device was calculated by means of the FDM. CPW traveling-wave electrodes were designed by the CMM and SOR simulation techniques so as to satisfy the conditions of phase-velocity and impedance matching. Traveling-wave modulators were fabricated on a z-cut LiNbO$_3$ substrate. Ti was in-diffused in LiNbO$_3$ to make waveguides and Au electrodes were built on the waveguides by the electroplating technique. Insertion loss and switching voltage of the optical modulator were about 4 ㏈ and 15.6V. Network analyzer was used to obtain S parameters and corresponding RF response. From the measurement, parameters of the traveling-wave electrodes were extracted as such Z$_{c}$=39.2 $\Omega$, Neff=2.48, and a0=0.0665/cm((GHz) (1/2)). The measured optical response R(w) was compared with the theoretically estimated and both responses were shown to agree well. The measurement results revealed that the ㏈ bandwidth turned out to be about 13 GHz.
Even in an era where 8-meter class telescopes are common, small telescopes are considered very valuable research facilities since they are available for rapid follow-up or long term monitoring observations. To maximize the usefulness of small telescopes in Korea, we established the SomangNet, a network of 0.4-1.0 m class optical telescopes operated by Korean institutions, in 2020. Here, we give an overview of the project, describing the current participating telescopes, its scientific scope and operation mode, and the prospects for future activities. SomangNet currently includes 10 telescopes that are located in Australia, USA, and Chile as well as in Korea. The operation of many of these telescopes currently relies on operators, and we plan to upgrade them for remote or robotic operation. The latest SomangNet science projects include monitoring and follow-up observational studies of galaxies, supernovae, active galactic nuclei, symbiotic stars, solar system objects, neutrino/gravitational-wave sources, and exoplanets.
