The composite membranes using Nafion as matrix and 1-ethyl-3-methylimidazolium tetracyanoborate (EMITCB) as ion-conducting medium in replacement of water were prepared and characterized. The amount of EMITCB in Nafion varied from 30 to 50wt%. The composite membranes are characterized by ion conductivity, thermogravitational analyses (TGA) and small-angle X-ray scattering (SAXS). The composite membranes containing EMITCB of 40wt% showed the maximum ionic conductivity which was ~0.0146 S $cm^{-1}$ at 423.15 K. It is inferred that the decrease in ionic conductivity of all the composite membranes might be due to the decomposition of a tetracyanoboric acid formed in the composite membranes. The results of SAXS indicated that the ionic clusters to conduct proton in the composite membranes were successfully formed. In accordance with the results of ionic conductivity as a function of a reciprocal temperature, SAXS showed a proportional decrease in scattering maximum $q_{max}$ as the amount of EMITCB increases in the composite membranes, which results in the increase in ionomer cluster size. The TGA showed no significant decomposition of the ionic liquid as well as the composite membranes in the range of operating temperature ($120-150^{\circ}C$) of high temperature proton exchange membrane fuel cells (HTPEMFC). As a result, EMITCB is able to play an important role in transferring proton in the composite membranes at elevated temperatures with no external humidification for proton exchange membrane fuel cells.
$\alpha,\omega-Vinyl$ poly(dimethyl-methylphenyl) siloxane propelymer (VPMPS ) was prepared by the equilibrium polymerization of octamethylcyclotetrasiloxane $(D_4)$, 1,3,5-trimethyl-1,3,5-triphenylcyclotrisiloxane $(D_3^{MePh})$, and 1,1,3,3-tetramethyl-1,3-divinylsiloxane (MVS) as end-blocker. And also, $\alpha,\omega-hydrogen$ poly(dimethyl-methyltrifluoropropyl)siloxane prepolymer (HPDMFS) was prepared from $D_4$, 1,3,5-trimethyl-1,3.5-trifluoropropylcyclotrisiloxane $(D_3^{MeF3P})$, and 1,1,3,3-tetramethyldisiloxane. Poly(organosiloxane) rubber composite containing high thermal conductive filler was prepared by compounding VPMPS, HPDMFS, spherical alumina, and catalyst in high speed dissolver. The crosslinking density of poly (organosiloxane) composite was measured by oscillation rheometer. Poly(organosiloxane) composites of TC-POXR-2 and TC-POXR-4 prepared by controlling average diameters of thermal conductive filler, spherical alumina according to Horsfield's packing model were shown to 1.13 W/mK for TC-POXR-2 and 1.19 W/mK for TC-POXR-4.
Hybrid $A1_2O_3-TiC$ ceramic particle reinforced 6061 and 5083 Al composite powders were prepared by the combination of twin rolling and stone mill crushing process, followed by consolidating processes of cold compaction, degassing and hot extrusion. The composite bar consists of lamellar structure of ceramic particle rich area and matrix area, in which the hybrid was decomposed into each TiC of about $3-4\mutextrm{m}$ and $AI_2O_3$ particles of about $1-2\mutextrm{m}$ in diameter. It also found that fine $Mg_2Si$ precipitates of about 30 nm were embedded in the matrix, which have grains of about 3 $\mutextrm{m}$. Higher UTS was measured at the 5083 composite bar compared to the conventionally fabricated composite, due to again refinement effect by the rapid solidification. No particle was shown to form in the interface between the matrix and reinforcement, whereas carbon was diffused into the matrix.
In this study, the piezoelectric transducers with 1-3 connectivity have maded. A piezoelectric ceramic PZT prepared by Wet-Dry Combination method is used as a filler in Eccogel polymer matrix. The pulse-echo response for 1-3 type composite transducers were carried out in water. It was observed that the transmitting and receiving sensitivity of 1-3 type composite transducers were improved in comparison with that or solid PZT transducer. The reason is for that 1-3 composites have a hish piezoelectric voltage coefficients, The period of pulse-echo response for the transducer is in a good agreement with the resonant frequency of self-maded composite transducer.

In this study, the piezoelectric ceramics PZT powder was synthesized by the Wet-Dry combination method. Flexible 1-3 type composite specimens were fabricated with the piezoceramics PZT filler phase and Eccogel polymer matrix phase. This paper represents the pulse-echo response of the 1-3 type composite transducer to check it out to investigate a basic property regarding a level limit switch. The acoustic impedance of 1-3 type composite was improved than that of single phase PZT ceramics. The pulse-echo response of transducer fabricated with the self-made 1-3 type composites resonator was better than that of the solid PZT transducer.
Composite adsorbents were prepared by mixing water plant sludge with phenolic resin having the ratio of 1 : 1, 1 : 2, and 1 : 3 respectively, curing from $100^{\circ}C$ to $170^{\circ}C$ under $N_2$ atmosphere, and then activating with $N_2$ at $700^{\circ}C$. Thermal property, specific surface area and morphology of the composite adsorbents as well as their precursors were measured by TGA, BET and SEM respectively. Removal efficiency of the composite adsorbents to ${NH_4}^+$ and TOC was compared with those of commercial zeolite and activated carbon. The adsorbents presented very promising TOC removal efficiency of 98%, which was identical level to that of commercial activated carbon while they displayed removal efficiency, only 32%, of ${NH_4}^+$. Therefore, this composite adsorbent considered as the alternative material of commercial activated carbon, used as an expensive removal agent of organic substances and THM in water treatment plant and it also suggested a possibility of practical application in other processes.
Three types of dispersed, coated and mechanically mixed SiC reinforced Al2O3 composite powders were used to investigate the effect of composite powder type on sintering characteristics and properties of Al2O3-SiC composites. Sinterability of coated type composite powders was superior to that of other composite powders when they were pressureless sintered at 1500~1$700^{\circ}C$ for 2h in Ar atmosphere. However, sinterabilities (>98% TD) of each type of composite powders were similar when they were hot pressed at 180$0^{\circ}C$ for 1h under 30MPa in N2 atmosphere. SiC powders were randomly distributed in the specimen prepared from dispersed type composite powders, whereas homogeneously distributed for coated type specimens. It was found that SiC powders inhibited the grain growth of Al2O3, and fracture toughness was increased by the increment of crack growth resistance due to residual stress by secondary SiC particles within Al2O3 grains.

A problem of determining the effective conductivity of a useful model of sphere-matrix type, disordered three-phase composite media is considered. Specifically, a three-phase media in which two-phase composite spheres, consisting of spheres of conductivity $k_2$((phase 2) and concentric shells of conductivity $k_3$(phase 3), are randomly distributed in a matrix of conductivity $k_1$( (phase 1) is considered. As for the structure models configuring three-phase composite media, three different structure models of PCS, PS-1 and PS-2 models are defined, which are analogous to well-established PCS, PS structure models of two-phase composite media. Futhermore, a generalized PS-PCS structure model is proposed to incorporate thesee three different models in one. Effective condectivity $k^{\ast}$of multiphaes composite media is greatly influenced by the phase connectivity of each disspersed phase material, as well as phase conductivities and phase volume fractions. Phase connectivity of three-phase PCS, PS-1, PS-2 composite media is quantified by the impentrability parameter $\lambda$. Mathematically rigorous first-order cluster bounds on $k^{\ast}$ are derived for these models of three-phase composite media, and as computation examples, first-order cluster bounds on $k^{\ast}$ for three-phase composites consisting of largely different phase conductivities are computed and compared as function of concnectivity parpmeter $\lambda$. Results and discussions are given.

Among the etiologic factors of enamel corrosion, daily intake has been considered with a profound interest, especially the intake of acidic drinks. It is thought that the rapid consumption of acidic drinks will not only results in the affection to the teeth but also to the surface of the tooth-colored restorative materials. Therefore, the puopose of this study is to examine the alterations occurred in the surface of the tooth-colored materials according to the exposed time, with 3 most common acidic drinks in contact with daily life. Resin-modified glass-ionomer, polyacid-modified composite resin, composite resin were immersed on 0.9% NaCl, Coke, orange juice, sports beverages as 4 groups in each. The surface hardness and the surface roughness of specimens were measured with following methods: before immersion, 1 day after immersion, 1-,2-,3-,4- weeks after immersion. Results were as follows. 1. Tooth-colored restorative materials, with the exception of composite resin, showed statistically significant changes in surface hardness and roughness when immersed on acidic drinks(p<0.05). 2. The degree of change in surface hardness and roughness occurred as follows, in order of severity from greatest to least resin-modified glass-ionomer, polyacid-modified composite resin, composite resin 3. Sports beverages resulted in greater alterations to surfaces than Coke and orange juice. 4. In the SEM image of the groups immersed in acidic drinks, resin-modified glass-ionomer and polyacid-modified composite resin showed loss of filer. Severe cracks were observed, especially on the resin-modified glass-ionomer.
Background: Florfenicol might be ineffective for treating Staphylococcus aureus small colony variants (SCVs) mastitis. Objectives: In this study, florfenicol-loaded chitosan (CS)-sodium tripolyphosphate (TPP) composite nanogels were prepared to allow targeted delivery to SCV infected sites. Methods: The formulation screening, the characteristics, in vitro release, antibacterial activity, therapeutic efficacy, and biosafety of the florfenicol composite nanogels were studied. Results: The optimized formulation was obtained when the CS and TPP were 10 and 5 mg/mL, respectively. The encapsulation efficiency, loading capacity, size, polydispersity index, and zeta potential of the optimized florfenicol composite nanogels were 87.3% ± 2.7%, 5.8% ± 1.4%, 280.3 ± 1.5 nm, 0.15 ± 0.03, and 36.3 ± 1.4 mv, respectively. Optical and scanning electron microscopy showed that spherical particles with a relatively uniform distribution and drugs might be incorporated in cross-linked polymeric networks. The in vitro release study showed that the florfenicol composite nanogels exhibited a biphasic pattern with the sustained release of 72.2% ± 1.8% at 48 h in pH 5.5 phosphate-buffered saline. The minimal inhibitory concentrations of commercial florfenicol solution and florfenicol composite nanogels against SCVs were 1 and 0.25 ㎍/mL, respectively. The time-killing curves and live-dead bacterial staining showed that the florfenicol composite nanogels were concentration-dependent. Furthermore, the florfenicol composite nanogels displayed good therapeutic efficacy against SCVs mastitis. Biological safety studies showed that the florfenicol composite nanogels might be a biocompatible preparation because of their non-toxic effects on the renal tissue and liver. Conclusions: Florfenicol composite nanogels might improve the treatment of SCV infections.
