  • In this paper we deal with the open problem posed by Lü, Li and Yang [10]. In fact, we prove the following result: Let f(z) be a transcendental meromorphic function of finite order having finitely many poles, c1, c2, …, cn ∈ ℂ\{0} and k, n ∈ ℕ. Suppose fn(z), f(z+c1)f(z+c2) ⋯ f(z+cn) share 0 CM and fn(z)-Q1(z), (f(z+c1)f(z+c2) ⋯ f(z+cn))(k) - Q2(z) share (0, 1), where Q1(z) and Q2(z) are non-zero polynomials. If n ≥ k+1, then $(f(z+c_1)f(z+c_2)\;{\cdots}\;f(z+c_n))^{(k)}\;{\equiv}\;{\frac{Q_2(z)}{Q_1(z)}}f^n(z)$. Furthermore, if Q1(z) ≡ Q2(z), then $f(z)=c\;e^{\frac{\lambda}{n}z}$, where c, λ ∈ ℂ \ {0} such that eλ(c1+c2+⋯+cn) = 1 and λk = 1. Also we exhibit some examples to show that the conditions of our result are the best possible.

  • Genetic polymorphism of transferrin $(T_f)$ subtypes in Jeju population was studied by isoelectric focusing of human sera on polyacrylamide gels under high voltage, and haptolobin (Hp) polymorphism in Seoul and Jeju population was studied by polyacrylamide gel electrophoresis. Among 946 normal samples, three common types of transferrin, $T_{f}C_{1}, T_{f}C_{1}-C_{2} and T_{f}C_{2}$ were observed with some variants migrating slower than $T_{f}C$ subtypes, while among 139 patient (hepatitis) samples, only three common types were found. The gene frequencies were calculated as follows; in normal population, $T_{f}C^{1}$ was 0.7220; $T_{f}C^{2}, 0.2743; T_{f}D^{Jeju}, 0.0037$, and in patient population, $T_{f}C^{1} was 0.7194; T_{f}C^{2}, 0.2806$ respectively. Among 460 samples in Seoul and 502 in Jeju population, three types of haptoglobin, Hp 1-1, Hp 2-1 and Hp 2-2 were observed. The gene frequency of $Hp^1$ was 0.304, $Hp^2$, 0.696 in Seoul and in Jeju, $Hp^1$ was 0.269 and $Hp^2$, 0.731, respectively. The frequencies of the genes and the polymorphic phenotypes were discussed comparatively with the other populations.

  • Degree of heterosis and gene distributions of several agronomic characters of rice were studied with F$_1$ and F$_2$ generations of 9-parent partial diallel cross in 1983-1984. Degree of heterosis was greater in F$_1$ hybrids than F$_2$ hybrids for culm length, panicle length and number of panicle and the heterobeltiosis could be observed in culm length and number of panicle from several crosses. Incomplete dominance was exhibited by culm length, panicle length and number of panicle in F$_1$ and F$_2$ generations.

  • Let $F$ be a set of distributions on R with the topology of weak convergence, and let $A$ be the $\sigma$-field generated by the open sets. We denote by $F_1^\infty$ the space consisting of all infinite sequence $(F_1, F_2, \cdots), F_n \in F and R_1^\infty$ the space consisting of all infinite sequences $(x_1, x_2, \cdots)$ of real numbers. Take the $\sigma$-field $F_1^\infty$ to be the smallest $\sigma$-field of subsets of $F_1^\infty$ containing all finite-dimensional rectangles and take $B_1^\infty$ to be the Borel $\sigma$-field $R_1^\infty$.

  • The six lumbrokinase fractions (F1 to F6) with fibrinolytic activities were purified from earthworm Lumbricus rubellus lysates using the procedures of autolysis, ammonium sulfate fractionation, and column chromatography. The proteolytic activities on the casein substrate of the six iso-enzymes ranged from 11.3 to 167.5 unit/mg with the rank activity orders of F2 > F1 > F5 > F6 > F3 > F4. The fibrinolytic activities of the six fractions on the fibrin plates ranged from 20.8 to 207.2 unit/mg with rank orders of F6 > F2 > F5 > F3 > F1 > F4. The molecular weights of each iso-enzyme, as estimated by SDS-PAGE, were 24.6 (F1), 26.8 (F2), 28.2 (F3), 25.4 (F4), 33.1 (F5), and 33.0 kDa (F6), respectively. The plasminogen was activated into plasmin by the enzymes. The optimal temperature of the six iso-enzymes was $50^{\circ}C$, and the optimal pH ranged from pH 4-12. The four iso-enzymes (F1-F4) were completely inhibited by PMSF. The two enzymes (F5 and F6) were completely inhibited by aprotinin, TLCK, TPCK, SBTI, LBTI, and leupeptin. The N-terminal amino acid (aa) sequences of the first 20 to 22 residues of each fraction had high homology. All six isoenzymes had identical aa residues 2-3 and 13-15. The N-terminal 21-22 aa sequences of the F2, F3, and F4 isoenzymes were almost the same. The N-terminal aa sequences of F5 and F6 were identical.

  • The fiber optic Sagnac interferometer is well established as a sensor for detection of physical perturbations such as acoustic and vibration. In this paper acoustic signals generated in the cylindrical cavity submerged in transformer oil were measured by the fiber optic sensor array in one Sagnac loop. Two different external sound frequencies, $f_1$ and $f_2$, were applied to the sensor array simultaneously by using piezoelectric with frequency range from 5 kHz to 90 kHz. Based on the experimental results, fiber optic sensor detected harmonic series of applied sound frequency such as $f_1$, $f_2$, $2f_1$, $2f_2$, ${\mid}f_1-f_2{\mid}$, ${\mid}f_1+f_2{\mid}$. Suggested fiber optic sensor array can be applied to monitor physical quantities such as internal sound pressure and vibration due to partial discharge in the real electric transformer system.

  • A simulation study was conducted to evaluate the effect of reciprocal cross on the detection and characterization of parent-of-origin (POE) QTL in $F_2$ QTL populations. Data were simulated under two different mating designs. In the one-way cross design, six $F_0$ grand sires of one breed and 30 $F_0$ grand dams of another breed generated 10 $F_1$ offspring per dam. Sixteen $F_1$ sires and 64 $F_1$ dams were randomly chosen to produce a total of 640 $F_2$ offspring. In the reciprocal design, three $F_0$ grand sires of A breed and 15 $F_0$ grand dams of B breed were mated to generate 10 $F_1$ offspring per dam. Eight $F_1$ sires and 32 $F_1$ dams were randomly chosen to produce 10 $F_2$ offspring per $F_1$ dam, totaling 320 $F_2$ offspring. Another mating set comprised three $F_0$ grand sires of B breed and 15 $F_0$ grand dams of A breed to produce the same number of $F_1$ and $F_2$ offspring. A chromosome of 100 cM was simulated with large, medium or small QTL with fixed or different allele frequencies in parental breeds. A series of tests between Mendelian and POE models were applied to characterize QTL as Mendelian, paternal, maternal or partial expression QTL. The overall detection powers were similar between the two mating designs. However, the proportions of paternally expressed QTL that were declared as paternal QTL type were greater in the reciprocal cross design than in the one-way cross, and vice versa for Mendelian QTL. When QTL alleles were segregating in parental breeds, a significant proportion of Mendelian QTL were spuriously declared POE QTL, suggesting that care must be taken to characterize imprinting QTL in a QTL mapping population with a small number of $F_1$ parents.
