Background: Rest breaks at work are reported to reduce fatigue and job stress. Apartment janitors in Korea who perform night shift work and work long hours can be exposed to various health problems (HPs). However, few studies have evaluated relationships between their rest breaks and HPs. This study was conducted to examine the relationships between long working hours, shift work, and insufficient rest breaks and HPs among Korean apartment janitors. Methods: Data on 1,212 selected male apartment janitors were obtained from the 3rd and 4th Korean Working Conditions Surveys. Demographic and occupational characteristics were collected using self-reported questionnaires. Rest breaks at work were classified as "sufficient" or "insufficient." Long working hours were considered as working more than 60 hours per week. Zero-inflated negative binomial (ZINB) regression was performed to investigate the effects of shift work and long working hours on HPs and the effects of rest breaks on relationships between HPs and long working hours and shift work. Results: Among those with insufficient rest breaks at work, significant associations were found between long working hours and the risk of HPs [odds ratio (OR) = 1.489; 95% confidence interval (CI) = 1.038-2.136] and work-related HPs (WRHPs) [OR 1.621; 95% CI = 1.156-2.272], and between shift work and HPs [OR = 1.603; 95% CI = 1.084-2.372]. These relationships became nonsignificant when sufficient rest breaks were provided. Conclusion: It is important to provide breaks at work to reduce HPs because of long working hours and shift work among aged workers such as apartment janitors.

The study is about the grading methods for the apparel CAD systems. So far the shift grading is used mostly in the industry. But the split grading has its advantage such as less data Input which is required for grading. So the research is aimed to prove that the split grading is not accurate than the shift grading and more efficient in speed, and to give the guidance of the split grading so that the split grading method can be applied in future apparel CAD systems more often. The results of the research were: 1. Split yarding produced graded patterns as accurate as shift grading. Yet split grading was more efficient and convenient because it required less data input than shift grading. 2. The 10 grading charts were grouped into 3 groups by the bust girth intervals, 3 cm grading, 4 cm grading and 5cm grading. 3. The grading areas were varied depending on the grament designs, gradre's skill and the grading intervals. 4. Guidance for the split grading was suggested.
To study the physiological adaptation (shift-up) of phytoplankton under the simulated upwelling conditions, nitrate uptake capacity of Dunaliella tertiolecta batch culture was measured in the laboratory using the stable isotope $^{15}N-KNO_3$. Contrary to the expected, there was no significant relationship between the maximum $V_{NO3}$ (nitrogen specific nitrate uptake rate) and the initial nitrate concentration. However, there was a strong relationship between the maximum $\rho_{NO3}$ (nitrate transport rate) and the initial nitrate concentration of $<25\;{\mu}M$, which was also influenced by the physiological status of the culture. The increase in $V_{NO3}$ was mainly due to the increase in PON (particulate organic nitrogen) concentration and partly due to the increase in $V_{NO3}$. When the phytoplankton population was severely shifted-down, the physiological adaptation of nitrate uptake was significantly inhibited at high initial nitrate concentrations. The timing of the maximum $V_{NO3}$ or $\rho_{NO3}$ was related to the initial nitrate concentration. At higher initial nitrate concentrations, maxima in $V_{NO3}$ and $\rho_{NO3}$ occurred 1 or 2 days later than at lower nitrate concentrations. This relationship was the opposite to the prediction from the shift-up model of Zimmerman et al. (1987), The shift-up process is apparently controlled by an internal time sequence and the initial nitrate concentration, but the magnitude of $V_{NO3}$ was affected little by changes in nitrate concentration.
While many eukaryotic and some prokaryotic proteins show a phosphorylation-dependent mobility shift (PDMS) on SDS-PAGE, the molecular mechanism for this phenomenon had not been elucidated. We have recently shown that the distribution of negatively charged amino acids around the phosphorylation site is important for the PDMS of some proteins. Here, we show that replacement of the phosphorylation site with a negatively charged amino acid results in a similar degree of the mobility shift of a protein as phosphorylation, indicating that the PDMS is due to the introduction of a negative charge by phosphorylation. Compared with a protein showing no shift, one showing a retarded mobility on SDS-PAGE had a decreased capacity for SDS binding. The elucidation of the consensus sequence (${\Theta}X_{1-3}{\Theta}X_{1-3}{\Theta}$, where ${\Theta}$ corresponds to an acidic function) for a PDMS suggests a general strategy for mutagenizing a phosphorylatable protein resulting in a PDMS.
Purpose: This study was conducted to identify the effects of caffeine intake by shift workers on sleep, considering various variable related to the sleep health of shift workers. Methods: A descriptive survey study was conducted with 128 employees who worked shifts. Respondents were surveyed on their of caffeine intake behavior, schedule type, quality of sleep, health promotion behavior, and occupational stress. Differences in their quality of sleep were assessed using the t-test and analysis of variance, while factors influencing the effect of caffeine intake on the quality of sleep were analyzed using hierarchical logistic regression. Results: The average Pittsburgh Sleep Index, Korean Version score of those surveyed was 7.3±3.25, indicating that their quality of sleep was low. On the other hand, their aveage daily intake of caffeine was 1.6±0.99 cups (1 cup =150 mL) and 116.4±77.58 mg/dL of caffeine. When the various variables that could have affected the quality of sleep were corrected, an increase in the amount of caffeine consumed was found to lead to a decrease in the quality of sleep (p=.015). Conclusion: Caffeine intake by shift workers has a significant bearing on their quality of sleep; therefore, such intake should be adjusted to improve their sleep health.

Electrical current is usually used to change the damping force of Magnetorheological Dampers (MRDs). However, changing the electrical current could shift the stiffness of the system, the phenomenon that was not considered carefully. This study aims to evaluate this shift. A typical MRD was designed, optimized, and fabricated to do some accurate and detailed experimental tests to examine the stiffness variation. The damper is equipped with a circulating system to prevent the deposition of particles when it is at rest. Besides that, a vibration setup was developed for the experimental study. It is capable of generating vibration with either constant frequency or frequency sweep and measure the amplitude of vibration. The damper was tested by the vibrating setup, and it was concluded that with a change in electrical current from 0 to 1.4 A, resonant frequency would change from 13.8 Hz to 16 Hz. Considering the unchanging mass of 85.1 kg, the change in resonant frequency translates as a shift in stiffness, which changes from 640 kN/m to 860 kN/m.
Some circadian rhythms can become disorgnized due to rotating shift work. This lack of organization, termed desynchronization, can produce a group of symptoms such as insomnia, GI disturbance and fatigue among many rotating shift workers. The magnitude of these symptoms are influenced by personal and environmental factors and the patterns of shift work. This study was carried out to investigate the subjective symptoms related to rotational schedules of shift work after personal and environmental factors adjusted. 182 male workers in rapidly rotating shift system and 86 male workers in weekly rotating shift system were conducted the questionnaire on personal factors and subjective sleep, GI and fatigue symptoms. Major findings obtained from this study are as follows: 1. The symptoms of 'feeling tired at work' and 'being irritable' were more frequent in weekly rotating shift workers (P<0.05), and the mean of symptom score was significantly higher in weekly rotating shift workers(P<0.01). 2. According to 6 hours of sleeping which is a definite elevation point of fatigue, there was not a significant difference between two groups in sleeping hours. Among workers in rapidly rotating shift system, the mean of symptom score was significatly higher in workers of less than 6 hours of sleeping(P<0.05), but it was not different among weekly rotating shift workers. 3. The symptoms of GI disturbance were more frequent in weekly rotating shift workers but statistically not significant. 4. The positive rate of mental and physical fatigue symptoms were significantly higher in weekly rotating shift workers(P<0.01) and mental and physical fatigue symptoms were more frequent in them (P<0.01). 5. After the effect of the factors that were significantly different between two groups by $X^2-test$ were controlled, the mean score of sleep disturbance was significantly higher in weekly rotating shift workers (P<0.01) and mental physical fatigue symptoms were more frequent in them (P<0.01). Based on these study results, subjective symptoms were more common in the weekly rotating shift workers. In future, medical examination and laboratory test will be also administered to evaluate a more accurate health outcomes and the review of current shift schedules will be required.
The phase-shift method and correlation constants, i.e., the unique electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS) techniques for studying the linear relationship between the behavior ($-{\varphi}$ vs. E) of the phase shift ($90^{\circ}{\geq}-{\varphi}{\geq}0^{\circ}$) for the optimum intermediate frequency and that ($\theta$ vs. E) of the fractional surface coverage ($0{\leq}{\theta}{\leq}1$), have been proposed and verified to determine the Langmuir, Frumkin, and Temkin adsorption isotherms of H and related electrode kinetic and thermodynamic parameters at noble metal (alloy)/aqueous solution interfaces. At a Zr/0.2 M ${H_2}{SO_4}$ aqueous solution interface, the Frumkin and Temkin adsorption isotherms ($\theta$ vs. E), equilibrium constants (K = $1.401{\times}10^{-17}\exp(-3.5{\theta})mol^{-1}$ for the Frumkin and K = $1.401{\times}10^{-16}\exp(8.1{\theta})mol^{-1}$ for the Temkin adsorption isotherm), interaction parameters (g = 3.5 for the Frumkin and g = 8.1 for the Temkin adsorption isotherm), rates of change of the standard free energy (r = $8.7\;kJ\;mol^{-1}$ for g = 3.5 and r = $20\;kJ\;mol^{-1}$ for g = 8.1) of H with $\theta$, and standard free energies ($96.13{\leq}{\Delta}G^0_{\theta}{\leq}104.8\;kJ\;mol^{-1}$ for K = $1.401{\times}10^{-17}\exp(-3.5{\theta})mol^{-1}$ and $0{\leq}{\theta}{\leq}1$ and ($94.44<{\Delta}G^0_{\theta}<106.5\;kJ\;mol^{-1}$ for K = $1.401{\times}10^{-16}\exp(-8.1{\theta})mol^{-1}$ and $0.2<{\theta}<0.8$) of H are determined using the phase-shift method and correlation constants. At 0.2 < $\theta$ < 0.8, the Temkin adsorption isotherm correlating with the Frumkin adsorption isotherm, and vice versa, is readily determined using the correlation constants. The phase-shift method and correlation constants are probably the most accurate, useful, and effective ways to determine the adsorption isotherms of H and related electrode kinetic and thermodynamic parameters at highly corrosion-resistant metal/aqueous solution interfaces.
SiOC films containing alkyl groups have a low dielectric constant because of the interaction between the C-H hydrogen bonds and the oxygen of high electro-negative atom. The Si-$CH_3$ in a void is broken by the $O_2$, therefore the strength of CH bond in Si-O-O-$CH_3$ bond increases. The Si-O-O-$CH_3$ bond is broken by nucleophilic attack due to Si atom, again. The elongation of C-H bond causes the red shift, and the compression of C-H bond causes the blue shift. Among these chemical shifts, the blue shift from $1000\;cm^{-1}$ to $1250\;cm^{-1}$ was related with the formation of pores. If the oxygen is deficient condition, the methylradicals of the electron-rich substitution group terminate easily the Si-O-Si cross-link, and the pore is originated from the cross-link breakdown due to much methyl radicals of Si-$CH_3$. The dielectric constant of the films decreases due to pore generation.

System-on-chip (SoC) designs have a number of flip-flops; the more flip-flops an SoC has, the longer the associated scan test application time will be. A scan shift operation accounts for a significant portion of a scan test application time. This paper presents physical-aware approaches for speeding up scan shift operations in SoCs. To improve the speed of a scan shift operation, we propose a layout-aware flip-flop insertion and scan shift operation-aware physical implementation procedure. The proposed combined method of insertion and procedure effectively improves the speed of a scan shift operation. Static timing analyses of state-of-the-art SoC designs show that the proposed approaches help increase the speeds of scan shift operations by up to 4.1 times that reached under a conventional method. The faster scan shift operation speeds help to shorten scan test application times, thus reducing test costs.
