Structural Diversity of Five New Lanthanide Coordination Polymers Tuned by Different Salt Anions

  • Five new lanthanide coordination polymers, $[Ln_2(1,4-NDC)_2(1,4-HNDC)_2(phen)_2]_n$ (Ln = Er (1), Yb (2)), and $[Ln_2(1,4-NDC)_3(phen)_2(H_2O)_2]_n$ (Ln = Nd (3), Gd (4), Er (5)) ($1,4-H_2NDC$ = 1,4-naphthalenedicarboxylic acid, phen = 1,10-phenanthroline), have been successfully prepared via the reaction of corresponding trivalent lanthanide salt, $1,4-H_2NDC$ and phen in the presence of NaOH and pyridine under hydrothermal condition. Pyridine plays a key role in the synthesis of these lanthanide coordination polymers. Single-crystal X-ray diffraction analyses indicate that compounds 1-5 all form a 2-D network while different salt anions result in the diversity of crystal structures. These lanthanide coordination polymers showed a considerable thermal stability in TGA analyses.

Production and Characterization of an Alkaline Protease from Bacillus licheniformis MH31

  • A alkalophilic strain, Bacillus licheniformis MH31 producing an alkaline protease was isolated from mine soil of Boryeong in Korea. Production of a high level of alkaline protease was achieved 42 h after incubation when the bacterium was grown at pH 9.0 and $35^{\circ}C$ in Horikoshi medium supplemented with 0.5%(w/v) starch and 1%(w/v) skim milk as carbon and nitrogen source, respectively. The molecular weight of partially purified enzyme was estimated to be 30 kDa by SDS-PAGE and its optimum pH was pH 10. The enzyme showed optimum temperature at $50^{\circ}C$, and was stable up to $60^{\circ}C$ after 1 h incubation. The protease was strongly inhibited by 1 mM of PMSF which was known well as strong inhibitor of serine proteases, but almost not inhibited by 5 mM of EDTA and 1,10-phenanthroline. When the protein hydrolysis products of 1% skim milk by partially purified protease was compared with available commercial proteases using HPLC analysis, most of hydrolysis products were detected below molecular weight of 10,000 and the hydrolysis ratio of purified enzyme was 24.8% lower than those(above 32%) of commercial proteases.

Highly Selective Derivative Spectrophotometry for Determination of Nickel Using 1-(2-Pyridylazo)-2-naphthol in Tween 80 Micellar Solutions

  • A spectrophotometric and first derivative spectrophotometric method was developed in aquatic Tween 80 micellar solutions for selective determination of nickel without using any pre-separation step. 1-(2-Pyridylazo)-2-naphthol (PAN), as a sensitive chromogenic complexing agent formed a red-colored Ni(II)-PAN complex in Tween 80 media with satisfactory solubility and stability. Conditions such as pH, PAN concentration, type and concentration of micellizing agent were optimized. Molar absorptivity of Ni-PAN complex was found $4.62\;{\times}\;10^4L\;cm^{?1}\;mol^{?1}$ at 569 nm, under the optimum condition. Calibration graphs were derived by zero, first and second derivative spectrophotometry at maximum wavelengths of 569, 578 and 571 nm with linear ranges of 30-1800, 20-2500 and 30-2000 ng $mL^{?1}$ , respectively. Precision as standard deviation as well as accuracy as recovery percent were in the range of 1-20 ng $mL^{?1}$, and 93.3-103.3%, respectively, for the entire of the linear ranges. Spectrophotometric detection limit was 3 ng $mL^{?1}$ and effects of diverse ions on the first derivative determination of nickel were studied to investigate selectivity of the method. Interferences of cobalt and copper on the nickel determination were prevented using o-phenanthroline as masking agent. The recommended procedures were applied to the various synthetic and stainless steel alloys, tea leaves and human hair, with satisfactory results.

Oxovanadium(IV) Complexes Containing VO(ONS) Basic Core: Synthesis, Structure, and Spectroscopic Properties

  • Some mononuclear oxovanadium(IV) complexes having the general formula [VOL(bidentate)] (1-4) of which L is tridentate ONS-donor salicylaldehyde S-methyldithiocarbazate (sal-mdtc$^{2-}$) or salicylaldehyde 4- phenylthiosemicarbazate (sal-phtsc$^{2-}$) and bidentate stands for 2,2'-bipyridyl (bpy) or 1,10-phenanthroline (phen) have been synthesized. The complexes were characterized by elemental analyses, FAB mass, UV, IR spectroscopy, and cyclic voltammetry. Two of the complexes [VO(sal-mdtc)(bpy)] (1) and [VO(sal-mdtc) (phen)] (2) were crystallographically characterized. The structures revealed that vanadium atom is octahedrally coordinated by the O, N, and S donor atoms of the tridentate ligand, the two N atoms of bidentate ligand, and the oxo atom. The oxygen donor, occupying an apical position has a trans-labilizing effect, resulting in elongation of the V-N bond. The cyclic voltammograms of the complexes exhibited one cathodic response in the range −d1.45 $\sim$ −f1.52 V due to the reduction of V(IV) to V(III).

Efficiency Improvement of Organic Light-emitting Diodes depending on the Thickness Variation of BCP using Electron Transport Layer (전자 수송층 BCP의 두께변환에 따른 유기발광소자 효율 개선)

  • In the devices structure of ITO/N,N'-diphenyl-N,N' bis (3-methylphenyl)-1,1'-biphenyl-4,4'-diamine (TPD) /tris (8-hydroxyquinoline)aluminum$(Alq_3)$electron-transport-layer(ETL)(2,9-Dimethyl-4,7-diphenyl-1,10-phenanthroline(BCP))/Al, we have studied the efficiency improvement of organic light-emitting diodes depending on the thickness variation of BCP using electron transport layer. The thickness of TPD and $Alq_3$ was manufactured 40 nm, 60 nm under a base pressure of $5{\times}10^{-6}$ Torr using at thermal evaporation, respectively. The TPD and $Alq_3$ layer were evaporated to be deposition rate of $2.5{\AA}/s$. And the BCP was evaporated to be a4 a deposition of $1.0{\AA}/s$. As the experimental results, we found that the luminous efficiency and the external quantum efficiency of the device is superior to others when thickness of BCP is 5 nm. Also, operating voltage is lowest. Compared to the ones from the devices without BCP layer, the luminous efficiency and the external quantum efficiency were improved by a factor of four hundred ninty and five hundred, respectively. And operating voltage is reduced to about 2 V.

혼합 형광체를 사용하여 제작한 백색 유기발광소자의 전기적 및 광학적 특성

  • 백색 유기발광소자는 전색 디스플레이, 액정디스플레이의 backlights, 조명에서 잠재적인 가능성 때문에 디스플레이와 조명 업계에서 각광 받고 있다. 백색 유기발광소자를 제작하기 위한 방법으로 형광체를 이용한 백색 유기발광소자가 연구되고 있지만, 아직 색순도와 색좌표에 대한 연구가 필요하다. 본 연구에서는 무기물 형광체를 이용한 백색 유기발광소자의 전기적 특성과 광학적 특성을 관찰하였다. 광원으로 사용된 청색 유기발광소자에 적색과 녹색의 무기물 형광체를 결합하는 방법으로 백색 유기발광소자를 제작하였다. 광원으로 사용한 청색 유기발광소자의 양극으로는 투명전극으로 널리 쓰이고 있는 ITO를 사용하였고 정공 수송층으로는 N,N'-bis-(1-naphthyl)-N,N'-diphenyl-1,1'-biphenyl-4,4'-diamine, 청색 발광층으로는 1,3-bis(carbazol-9-yl) benzene 호스트에 bis (3,5-difluoro-2-(2-pyridyl)phenyl)-(2-carboxypyridyl) iridium (III) 청색인광도 펀트를 사용하였다. 정공 저지층과 전자 수송층으로는 각각 2,9-dimethyl-4,7-diphenyl-1,10-phenanthorlene와 4,7-diphenyl-1,10-phenanthroline을 사용하고 전자 주입층으로는 lithium quinolate를 사용하였으며 음극으로는 Al을 사용하였다. 색 변환층으로 사용된 유기물 형광체는 sol-gel 방법으로 제작된 적색 형광체와 녹색 형광체를 사용하였다. Sol-gel 방법으로 제작된 형광체에 대한 주사현미경 측정 결과 입자의 표면이 고르고 크기가 작고 균일하였고, 높은 온도 열처리에 따라서 용매제가 대부분 제거되어 형광체 발광 특성이 잘 일어났음을 확인하였다. 제작한 백색유기발광소자에서 혼합비율에 따른 전계발광 특성 변화를 관찰하였다.

Chemical Modification of Extracellular Cytosine Deaminase from Chromobacterium violaceum YK 391

  • Essential amino acids involved in the catalytic role of the extracellular cytosine deaminase from Chromobacterium violaceum YK 391 were determined by chemical modification studies. The enzyme activity required the reduced form of Fe (II) ion, since the enzyme was inhibited by ο-phenanthroline. The enzyme activity was completely inhibited by the chemical modifiers, such as p-chloromercuribenzoate (p-CMB), p-hydroxymercuribenzoate, and chloramine-T at 1 mM each. The enzyme activity was also markedly inhibited by pyridoxal-5'-phosphate, diethyl pyrocarbonate, and phenylmethylsulfonyl fluroride at 1 mM each. The inactivation of the enzyme activity with p-CMB was reversed by a high concentration of cytosine. Furthermore, the inactivation of the enzyme activity with p-CMB was also reactivated by 1 mM dithiothreitol, 1 mM 2-mercaptoethanol, 1 mM cysteine-HCI, 10% ethyl alcohol, and 10% methyl alcohol. These results suggested that cysteine and methionine residues might be located in or near the active site of the enzyme, while lysine, histidine, and serine residues might be indirectly involved in the enzyme activity.

Efficiency Improvement of OLEDs depending on the Thickness Variation of BCP (BCP 두께 변환에 따른 OLEDs의 효율 향상)

The thickness of TPD and $Alq_3$ was manufactured 40 nm, 60 nm, respectively under a base pressure of $5\times10^{-6}$Torr using a thermal evaporation. The TPD and $Alq_3$ layer were evaporated to be at a deposition rate of 2.0 A/s. The BCP was evaporated to be at a deposition of 1.0 A/s. When the thickness of BCP increased from 5 to 30 nm, we found that the luminous efficiency and the external quantum efficiency is superior to the others when the thickness of BCP is 20 nm. Compared to the ones from the devices made without BCP, the luminous efficiency and the external quantum efficiency was improved by 57 %, 70%, respectively.

  • The electrical and optical properties of electrophosphorescent organic light-emitting diodes (OLEDs) with modified hole blocking layer (HBL) were investigated. Well-known 2,9-dimethyl-4,7- diphenyl-1,10-phenanthroline (BCP) HBL is mixed with electrophosphorescent host material (4,4'-N,N'- dicarbazole-biphenyl: CBP) or electrophosphorescent dopant material (fac-tris(2-phenylpyridine) iridium: $Ir(ppy)_3$) or both. The highest external quantum efficiency was obtained in the device with $BCP-CBP-Ir(ppy)_3$ mixed HBL and we attribute this result to the additional charge recombination in mixed-HBL.

Purification and Characterization of Fibrinolytic Enzyme from Tricholoma sejunctum

  • Fibrinolytic enzyme has been purified from the edible mushroom, Tricholoma sejunctum using DEAE-cellulose chromatography, Phenyl-Sepharose chromatography and Mono-S column chromatography. The apparent molecular mass of purified enzyme was estimated to be 17100 Da by SDS-polyacrylamide gel electrophoresis and 19000 Da by gel filtration, Indicating that it was a monomer. The N-terminal amino acid sequence of the enzyme was Ala-Thr-Tyr-Lys-Ile-X-Ser-Ala-Thr-His-Gln-X-X-Leu-Val. It has a pH optimum at pH 9.5, suggested that purified enzyme was a alkaline protease. The activity of purified enzyme was inhibited by EDTA and 1,10-phenanthroline, indicating that purified enzyme is a metalloprotease. The activity of purified enzyme was increased by Zn$^{2+}$ and Co$^{2+}$, however, the enzyme activity was totally inhibited by Hg$^{2+}$.
