Role of Contrast-Enhanced Ultrasound as a Second-Line Diagnostic Modality in Noninvasive Diagnostic Algorithms for Hepatocellular Carcinoma

  • Objective: To investigate the diagnostic performance of contrast-enhanced ultrasound (CEUS) and its role as a second-line imaging modality after gadoxetate-enhanced MRI (Gd-EOB-MRI) in the diagnosis of hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) among at risk observations. Materials and Methods: We prospectively enrolled participants at risk of HCC with treatment-naïve solid hepatic observations (≥ 1 cm) of Liver Imaging Reporting and Data System (LR)-3/4/5/M during surveillance and performed Gd-EOB-MRI. A total of one hundred and three participants with 103 hepatic observations (mean size, 28.2 ± 24.5 mm; HCCs [n = 79], non-HCC malignancies [n = 15], benign [n = 9]; diagnosed by pathology [n = 57], or noninvasive method [n = 46]) were included in this study. The participants underwent CEUS with sulfur hexafluoride. Arterial phase hyperenhancement (APHE) and washout on Gd-EOB-MRI and CEUS were evaluated. The distinctive washout in CEUS was defined as mild washout 60 seconds after contrast injection. The diagnostic ability of Gd-EOB-MRI and of CEUS as a second-line modality for HCC were determined according to the European Association for the Study of the Liver (EASL) and the Korean Liver Cancer Association and National Cancer Center (KLCA-NCC) guidelines. The diagnostic abilities of both imaging modalities were compared using the McNemar's test. Results: The sensitivity of CEUS (60.8%) was lower than that of Gd-EOB-MRI (72.2%, p = 0.06 by EASL; 86.1%, p < 0.01 by KLCA-NCC); however, the specificity was 100%. By performing CEUS on the inconclusive observations in Gd-EOB-MRI, HCCs without APHE (n = 10) or washout (n = 12) on Gd-EOB-MRI further presented APHE (80.0%, 8/10) or distinctive washout (66.7%, 8/12) on CEUS, and more HCCs were diagnosed than with Gd-EOB-MRI alone (sensitivity: 72.2% vs. 83.5% by EASL, p < 0.01; 86.1% vs. 91.1% by KCLA-NCC, p = 0.04). There were no false-positive cases for HCC on CEUS. Conclusion: The addition of CEUS to Gd-EOB-MRI as a second-line diagnostic modality increases the frequency of HCC diagnosis without changing the specificities.

Effect of Microwave Treatment on Chemical Composition and In sacco Digestibility of Wheat Straw in Yak Cow

  • Wheat straw was treated with microwave for 4 min and 8 min at a power of 750 W and frequency of 2,450 MHz. Chemical compositions of untreated, 4 min treated and 8 min treated straws were analyzed and in sacco degradabilities of all these straws in yak rumens were measured. Microwave treatment didn't significantly (p>0.05) affect the chemical composition of the straw. In sacco dry matter (DM) degradability of the straw after 18 h incubation in rumen was significantly (p<0.01) improved by microwave treatment. In sacco crude protein (CP) degradability of the straw was not (p>0.05) affected by microwave treatment. In sacco organic matter (OM) degradability of the straw was increased (p<0.01) by around 20% for both the 4 min and 8 min microwave treatment, that of acid detergent fibre (ADF) was increased (p<0.01) by 61.6% and 62.8%, and that of ash free ADF was enhanced by 72.1% and 69.6% for the 4 min and 8 min microwave treatment respectively. No significant difference was observed between the 4 min and 8 min microwave treatment on the degradability of DM, OM, CP, ADF and ash-free ADF of the straw.

ASSESSMENT OF PORCINE FAT QUALITY BY FIBER-OPTIC SPECTROPHOTOMETRY

  • Research was undertaken to determine if relectance (interactance) measured with a portable fiver optic probe (Colormet) can be used to assess porcine fat quality. Soft fat generally had lower interactance than hard fat, p<0.05 from 400 to 700 nm, although interactance spectra of hard and soft fat were similar in shape. At $4^{\circ}C$, interactance from 450 nm to 700 nm at the inner layer of backfat was correlated (p<0.01) with subjective soft fat score (r = 0.06 to 0.70), and with the refractive index (r = -0.62 to -0.65) and melting point (r = 0.59 to 0.60) of heat-extracted lipid. Colormet interactance $L^*$ at $4^{\circ}C$ was correlated (p<0.01) with soft fat score (r = 0.72), refractive index (r = -0.66) and melting point (r = 0.61). Interactance decreased as the temperature of the fat was increased from 22 to $44^{\circ}C$ (p<0.01). Soft fat had lower interactance than fats that were slightly soft, slightly hard and hard at 4, 22 and $40^{\circ}C$, although softness and temperature may interact to affect interactance. These results indicate that soft porcine fat may be detected easily by fiber-optic spectrophotometry.

  • The purpose of this study was to determine the optimal composite recipe of rice muffin using three different amounts of Chinese artichoke (Stachys sieboldii MIQ) powder, brown sugar, and egg. Response surface methodology (RSM) was used to obtain 16 experimental points (including three replicates of Chinese artichoke powder, brown sugar, and egg), and the Chinese artichoke rice muffin formulation was optimized using rheology. The results of the sensory evaluation showed very significant values for color, texture, sweetness, and overall quality (P<0.05). The results of the color, texture, and chemical analyses showed significant values for crumb redness (P<0.01), crumb yellowness (P<0.05), crust redness (P<0.05), crust yellowness (P<0.001), crust lightness (P<0.05), adhesiveness (P<0.01), springiness (P<0.001), gumminess (P<0.01), cohesiveness (P<0.05), moisture content (P<0.05), and sweetness (P<0.05). As a result, optimum formulations obtained by numerical and graphical methods were found to be 8.28 g of Chinese artichoke powder, 66.20 g of brown sugar, 111.72 g of sticky rice powder, 30 g of rice powder, and 59.37 g of egg.

맞춤형 영양교육이 철결핍성 빈혈환자의 임상 지표 및 영양섭취 상태에 미치는 효과 (Effects of Custom Nutrition Education on Dietary Intakes and Clinical Parameters in Patients Diagnosed with Iron Deficiency Anemia)

  • This study examined the effects of custom nutrition education on dietary intakes and clinical parameters in patients diagnosed with iron deficiency anemia. A total of 34 patients visited the anemia clinic of Yeouido St. Mary's Hospital. Among these, only 16 patients were available for follow-ups. A follow-up was conducted by a clinical dietitian 2 months from the first nutrition education session. Patients were all women. For custom nutrition education, we investigated anthropometric data, dietary assessment (24 hr-recall, FFQ), and self-recognized anemic symptoms. Weight did not show a significant difference but hemoglobin, hematocrit (P<0.01), serum iron, and serum ferritin (P<0.05) were significantly increased after the nutrition education. Serum total iron binding capacity was significantly decreased (P<0.01). Self-recognized symptoms such as dizziness, fatigue (P<0.001), shortness of breath, headache (P<0.01), brittle nails, and sore tongue (P<0.05) were significantly improved. Daily intakes of protein (P<0.05), total iron (P<0.01), and animal iron (P<0.001) were significantly increased. A significantly negative correlation was observed between current serum iron and the intake of carbohydrates, fat, or phosphorus (P<0.05). But current serum ferritin showed a significantly positive correlation with the frequency of intake of meat, poultry, and fish. It could be concluded that the custom nutrition education might be effective on quality of diet as well as iron status and it might also improve the clinical parameters in patients diagnosed with the iron deficiency anemia.

파로호의 어류상 및 어류군집 (Ichthyofauna and Fish Community in Lake Paro)

  • 2002년 12월부터 2003년 9월까지 파로호의 어류상 및 어류군집을 조사한 결과는 다음과 같다. 조사된 어류는 총 12과 45종이었다. 한국고유종은 H. mylodon, A. yanatsutae, C. herzi 등 15종 (33.33%)이었다. 우점종은 Z. platypus (72.41%), 아우점종은 H. labeo (9.75%)였고 우세종은 O. uncirostris amurensis (5.98%), Z. temmincki (2.42%), R. brunneus (2.01%), H. olidus (0.88%) 등이었다. 채집된 어종들의 생체량은 Z. platypus 82,863.15g, H. labeo 32,942.63 g, O. uncirostris amurensis 27,482.39 g, C. carpio 6,502.87 g, A. japonica 3,022.15 g,S. scherzeri 2,711.05g의 순으로 나타났다. 파로호에서 확인된 도입종은 A.japonica, H. eigenmanni, H. olidus, O. masou masou, C. urotaenius, R. giurinus, C. carpio (Israeli type), C. cuvieri, M. salmoides, L. macrochirus의 10종이었다. 이 중 C. carpio (Israeli type), C. cuvieri, M. salmoides, L. macrochirus는 국외종이며 A. japonica, H. eigenmanni, H. olidus, O. masou masou, C. urotaenius, R. giurinus는 국내 다른 하천으로부터 도입된 종이다.

Tri-gate FinFET의 fin 및 소스/드레인 구조 변화에 따른 소자 성능 분석 (Performance Analysis of Tri-gate FinFET for Different Fin Shape and Source/Drain Structures)

  • 본 논문에서는 삼차원 소자 시뮬레이터(Sentaurus)를 이용하여 tri-gate FinFET의 fin과 소스/드레인 구조의 변화에 따른 소자의 성능을 분석하였다. Fin의 구조가 사각형 구조에서 삼각형 구조로 변함에 따라, fin 단면의 전위 분포의 차이로 문턱 전압이 늘어나고, off-current가 72.23% 감소하고 gate 커패시턴스는 16.01% 감소하였다. 소스/드레인 epitaxy(epi) 구조 변화에 따른 성능을 분석하기 위해, epi를 fin 위에 성장시킨 경우(grown-on-fin)와 fin을 etch 시키고 성장시킨 경우(etched-fin)의 소자 성능을 비교했다. Fin과 소스/드레인 구조의 변화가 회로에 미치는 영향을 살펴보기 위해 Sentaurus의 mixed-mode 시뮬레이션 기능을 사용하여 3단 ring oscillator를 구현하여 시뮬레이션 하였고, energy-delay product를 계산하여 비교하였다. 삼각형 fin에 etched 소스/드레인 epi 구조의 소자가 가장 작은 ring oscillator delay와 energy-delay product을 보였다.

산란계에 대한 오전용 사료와 오후용 사료의 별도 급여가 난각질에 미치는 영향 (Effect of Feeding Split Diets for a.m. and p.m. on Egg Shell Quality)

  • 산란계에 대한 오전사료와 오후사료의 별도 급여가 계란의 난각질에 미치는 영향을 조사하고, 난각질 조사항목 상호간의 관계를 조사하기 위해 ISA Brown 갈색산란계 480수를 공시하여 32~36주령과 52~56주령 및 72~76주령에 각각 4주간 사양시험을 실시하였다. 각 산란기별로 처리당 60개씩 모두 1,080개의 계란을 수집하여 난각질을 조사하고 난각질 조사항목 상호간의 관계를 연구한 결과는 다음과 같다. 1. 계란의 비중, 난각 강도, 난각 후도 및 난각 비율등은 모두 오전사료 와 오후사료를 별도급여한 시험구들(T$_1$-T$_{5}$)이 대조구(C)에 비해 향상되었으며(P<0.05), 오후사료의 Ca 수준이 증가할수록 향상되는 경향이었다(P<0.05). 2. 난각질 조사항목간의 상관계수(r)는 0.79~0.90 으로 모두 고도의 유의적인 상관관계가 있었다(P<0.01). 3. 난각질 조사방법간의 관계를 조사하기 위해 단순회귀방정식과 다중회귀방정식을 구하였다.

케이지 산란계의 적정 사육밀도 구명에 관한 연구 (Studies on Decision of Suitable Housing Density in Caged Laying Hens)

  • 본 시험은 산란계에 대한 경제적인 케이지 사육밀도를 구명하여 계사 및 케이지의 이용성을 높이고자 실시하였고 백색계로는 ISA Babcock 산란계 600수와 유색계로는 ISA Brown 산란계 450수를 공시계로 하여 수당 사육밀도에 따라 백색계, 6처리, 유색계 5처리 4반복 시험을 1987년 5월 11일부터 1988년 6월 27일(14~72주령)까지 시험을 실시한 결과는 다음과 같다. 1. 사육밀도에 따를 육성기간(14-20주령) 동안의 증체고은 백색곡에서는 사육밀도가 272$\textrm{cm}^2$, 수당 급이기 길이 8m에서 381g으로 가장 적었고, 유색계에서는 사육밀도 306$\textrm{cm}^2$에서 554g으로 가장 적었으나 처리간에 통계적인 유의차는 인정되지 않았다. 2. 육계기간(14~20주) 동안에 사육밀도간의 육성율은 백색곡와 유색계 모두 97.63% 이상으로 높은 편이었고 처리간 통계적 유의차는 인정되지 않았다. 3. 산란기간(21-72주) 동안의 사육밀도별 성계생존율은 백색계는 453$\textrm{cm}^2$ 구에서만 89.31%로 통계적유의차(P<.05)가 인정되었고, 유색계에서는 306$\textrm{cm}^2$의 고밀도 구에서만 80.94%로 유의차(P<.05)가 인정되었다. .4. 전 산란기간(21-72주령) 동안의 산란율은 백색계에서는 초고밀도인 272$\textrm{cm}^2$/수당 구에서 62.11%로 가장 낮았으며 사육밀도가 증가할수록 산란율도 증가하는 경향을 보였고, 유색계에서도 고밀도인 306$\textrm{cm}^2$/수당구에서 65.01%로 가장 낮았고 사육밀도가 증가할수록 산란율도 증가하는 순향을 나타내었다. 5. 사육밀도가 평균난중에 미치는 영향은 백색석와 유색계 모두 전 산란기간 동안 처리간의 특별한 경향치를 나타내지 않았으며 통계적 유의성도 인정되지 않았다. 6. 1일 산란양은 백색계의 경우 산란말기(63~72주령)에 고밀도 사육구(272~306$\textrm{cm}^2$/수)에서 떨어지는 경향이었고, 유상무에서는 산란 전기간(21~72주령)동안 사육밀도에 따라 산란양은 감소하는 경향이었고 처리간 통계적 유의성(P<.05)이 인정되었다. 7. 산란전기간 동안(21-72주)의 사료섭취양은 백색계에서는 사육밀도간에 통계적 유의성이 인정되지 않았으나 유색계에서는 사육밀도와 수당 급이기의 길이가 증가할수록 사료섭취양도 증가하는 경향이었고 처리간의 유의성도 인정되었다. 8. 사료요구율은 백색계에서는 초고밀도(272$\textrm{cm}^2$/수)에서 2.94로 가장 많았으나 다를 처리구 사이에서는 유의성이 인정되지 않았으며, 유색계에서도 306$\textrm{cm}^2$/수의 고밀도 구에서 2.87로 가장 높았으나 다른 처리구 사이에서는 일정한 경향치가 없었고 통계적 유의차도 인정되지 않았다. 이상의 결과에서 산란계의 케이지 사육 적정 밀도는 백색계의 경우 초고밀도인 272$\textrm{cm}^2$/수를 제외한 수당면적 306~453$\textrm{cm}^2$, 유색계의 경우 수당면적 340~453$\textrm{cm}^2$ 일 때 경제능력을 제대로 발휘할 수 있고 경제성이 있는 것으로 나타났다.

A synonymous mutation of uncoupling protein 2 (UCP2) gene is associated with growth performance, carcass characteristics and meat quality in rabbits

  • Background: Uncoupling proteins 2 (UCP2) plays an important role in energy regulation, previous studies suggested that UCP2 is an excellent candidate gene for human obesity and growth-related traits in cattle and chicks. The current study was designed to detect the genetic variation of UCP2 gene, and to explore the association between polymorphism of UCP2 gene and growth, carcass and meat quality traits in rabbits. Results: A synonymous mutation in exon 1 and four variants in the first intron of the UCP2 gene were identified by using PCR-sequencing. The synonymous mutation c.72G>A was subsequently genotyped by MassArray system (Sequenom iPLEXassay) in 248 samples from three meat rabbit breeds (94 Ira rabbits, 83 Champagne rabbits, and 71 Tianfu black rabbits). Association analysis suggested that the individuals with AA and AG genotypes showed greater 70 d body weight (P < 0.05), 84 d body weight (P < 0.01), ADG from 28 to 84 days of age (P < 0.05), eviscerated weight (P < 0.01), semi-eviscerated weight (P < 0.01) and semi-eviscerated slaughter percentage (P < 0.05), respectively. Additionally, the individuals with AA and AG genotype had a lower pH value of longissimus muscle (P < 0.01) and hind leg muscle (P < 0.05) after slaughter 24 h. Conclusions: These findings indicated that UCP2 could be a candidate gene that associated with growth performance, body composition and meat quality in rabbits, and this would contribute to advancements in meat rabbit breeding practice.
