The Change of the Accommodative Amplitude in Accordance with the Color of the Spectacle Lens or Object (안경 렌즈 및 물체의 색상에 따른 최대 조절력 변화)

  • Purpose: To determine whether the accommodation of amplitude (AA) was changed by the color of the spectacle lens or object. Methods: AA was measured in forty subjects in their 20s when they viewed different targeton-background color combination with achromatic, gray, brown or green lens. Minus-lens procedures were used for the estimation of AA. Results: When subjects viewed the black-on-white, red-on-white and green-on-white targets, AA under tinted lens tended to be increased compared with AA under achromatic lens. Especially, the green lens significantly increased AA whatever the color of target was. Furthermore, as subjects viewed the green target, AA was the highest irrespective of the color of lens. AA was also changed depending on the color of background, so AA on the red background was lower than on the white background. On the contrary, AA on the green background was higher than on the red or white backgrounds. Of tinted lens, the gray lens increased AA the lowest, but the green lens did the highest. The number of subjects, whose AA were measured more than 9 D, reached to 12.5% with the gray lens, 21.3% with the brown lens, 22.5% with the green lens on the green background, but 5%, 6.5% and 6.5% on the red background, respectively. Conclusions: This results showed that AA varied depending on the color of spectacle lens, objects or background, and the eye fatigue could be decreased with proper color of spectacle lens accordingly.

Effects of Using Far Infrared Ray (FIR) on Growth Performance, Noxious Gas Emission and Blood Biochemical Profiles in Broiler (원적외선 조사가 육계의 생산성, 유해가스 발생량 및 혈액의 생화학적 조성에 미치는 영향)

  • The Far Infrared Ray (FIR) is part of the natural energy as light spectrum of sunlight. Human can disentangle the colors within visible ray, but FIR is invisible to human sight because it has longer wavelength than visible ray. The effect of using FIR on broiler performance, blood biochemical profiles and fecal gas emission from litter. Day-old semi-broiler chicks (Ross ♂ ${\times}$ Hyline ♀) were obtained and assigned to eight pens, 2 replicates of white and green color LED light, and with FIR on each color light, in a 20L:4D of lighting program. The body weight gain and feed efficiency were tend to improve under the green color than white color, which were increased by exposing to FIR on both color light. Emission of ammonia and lower hydrocarbons from litter were not different from each color but there was a decrease by exposing to FIR regardless of light color. The level of blood aspartate aminotransferase (AST) tends to be decreased under green color than white color, and this tendency becomes more pronounced as exposing to FIR. Therefore significantly increased under white color without FIR than green color with FIR (P<0.05). The levels of albumin and immunoglobulin were not different from each color but there was an increase by exposing to FIR regardless of light color. In conclusion, exposing to Far Infrared Ray (FIR) when broiler raising, there is potential to increase broiler performance because of improvement of bioactivity and raising environment.

  • Tricholoma matsutake ectomycorrhizas are unique in their morphology: not bifurcated broom shaped roots with not easily wettable brilliant and profuse white hyphae. To understand these characteristics the ectomycorrhizas were investigated with electron microscopy. T. matsutake ectomycorrhiza have thin mantle and typical Hartig net development in the epidermis and cortex, but no fungal mantle on the root apex. There were no penetrating hyphae inside of the cells of either epidermis, cortex or stele. Inside of the walls of epidermis and cortex cells are lined with ca. $2{\mu}m$ hemispherical amyloplasts. The brilliant hyphal surface was covered with various fine amorphous granules. The hyphal cell wall was thin membrane less than $0.3{\mu}m$ thick. There is no clamp connection on the hyphae. This thin membraneous cell wall with high elasticity can be related to survival strategy of the species without plasmolysis under frequent soil water stress environment. And the coarse hyphal surface with some water repellency can control sudden inrush of water of the hyphae with an extremely low osmotic potential. It is concluded that no mantle on the tip can induce mycorrhizas not bifurcated and that finely coarse surface of T. matsutake hyphae can make the hyphae brilliantly white but less wetted.

Rhizopus Soft Rot on Grape Caused by Rhizopus stolonifer in Korea (Rhizopus stolonifer에 의한 포도 무름병)

  • A rhizopus soft rot caused by Rhizopus stolonifer occurred sporadically on grape in orchard in Gyeongsang-nam-do Agricultural Research and Extension Services and in Wholesale Market of Agricultural Products in Jinju city. The infected fruits were rapidly water-soaked, softened and eventually rotted, and the symptoms were initiated from wounds or cracks occurred at harvest time. Sporangiophores were $850{\sim}1,800{\mu}m$ in length and $12{\sim}23{\mu}m$ in width. Sporangia were globose or hemispheric and $80{\sim}190{\mu}m$ in size. The color of sporangia was white and cottony at first and gradually to brownish black, bearing abundant spores when it matured. Columella were hemispheric and $70{\sim}95{\mu}m$ in size. Sporangiospores were irregular round or oval, brownish-black streaked and $8{\sim}22{\times}6{\sim}10{\mu}m$ in size. The optimum temperature for mycelial growth of the fungus on PDA was 25$^{\circ}C$. On the basis of mycological characteristics and pathogenicity to grape (Vitis vinifera), the causal fungus was identified as Rhizopus stolonifer (Ehrenberg ex. Fr,) Lind. This is the first report of Rhizopus soft rot by R. stolonifer on grape (V. vinifera) in Korea.

Antioxidative Activity of Extracts from Wisteria floribunda Flowers (등나무 꽃 추출물의 항산화 활성)

  • The antioxidant activities of Wisteria floribunda flowers (WFF) were evaluated. The samples were prepared by extracting separately two different colored flowers (purple and white) with four different solvents (methanol, ethanol, acetone, and water). The antioxidant properties were evaluated by determining total phenolic contents (TPC), radical scavenging activity (RSA), and reducing power (RP). Water extract from purple WFF and ethanol extract of white WFF showed the highest total phenol contents (491 and 787 ${\mu}M$ gallic acid equivalents), respectively. Water extracts of purple and white WFF also showed higher RSA. In the case of RP, ethanol extract of purple WFF, methanol and water extracts of white WFF showed relatively higher values. The 200 ${\mu}M$ $H_2O_2$ induced oxidative DNA damage in human leukocytes was significantly inhibited with WFF extracts excluding ethanol and acetone extracts of purple flowers. These results suggest that W. floribunda flowers have significant antioxidative activity and protective effect against oxidative DNA damage.

Attraction Effect of Blue Light Emitting Trap Combination of Sticky Trap for Trialeurodes vaporariorum (Hemiptera : Aleyrodidae) Capture in Tomato Greenhouse (토마토 온실에서 청색 발광 및 점착트랩을 이용한 온실가루이 유인 효과)

  • The effect of the trap equipped with diverse light-emitting lamp on the lure efficiency of whitefly (Trialeurodes vaporariorum) was investigated in the greenhouse cultivating tomato. The light-emitting lamp type equipped to trap was blue, yellow, and white light-emitting lamp. The experiment results showed that trap equipped with blue light-emitting lamp captured the most number of $110{\pm}3.2$ adult whitefly and the number of captured adult whitefly was $71{\pm}1.4$ at yellow light-emitting lamp trap and $45{\pm}1$ at white light-emitting lamp trap respectively. The wavelength distribution band of blue light-emitting lamp was between 330 nm and 430 nm. The wavelength band of yellow and white light-emitting lamp contain repellent wavelength band at the same time. These results show that the trap equipped with blue light-emitting lamp could be used effectively for whitefly control and prevention in the greenhouse cultivating tomato.

Occurrence of Rhizopus Soft Rot on Apple Fruit Caused by Rhizopus stolonifer in Korea (Rhizopus stolonifer에 의한 사과 무름병 발생)

The color of sporangia was white and cottony at first and gradually turned to brownish black, bearing abundant spores when matured. Columella were hemispheric and $70{\sim}85\;{\mu}m$ in size. Sporangiospores were irregular round or oval, brownish-black streaked and $8{\sim}18{\times}7{\sim}8\;{\mu}m$ in size. Optimum temperature for mycelial growth of the fungus on PDA was $25^{\circ}C$. On the basis of mycological characteristics and pathogenicity to apple the causal fungus was identified as Rhizopus stolonifer (Ehrenb.) Vuill. This is the first report of Rhizopus soft rot by R. stolonifer on Fuji apple in Korea.

The effect of different bag materials on grape quality and endeavor of maturation period determination (서로 다른 봉지재료가 포도 품질 및 숙기판단 노력에 미치는 영향)

  • In an attempt to select grape bag, which elevates grape quality and make easy maturation period determination, the following research was carried out at Chungbuk Institute of Agricultural Technology, Grape Experiment Station. Light transmittance rate of bag reached to 11-65% with non-woven fabric and non-dripped vinyl bags. Non-dripped vinyl perforation and white painting bag resulted in 50 and 75%, respectively. Berry weights in non-woven fabric and non-dripped vinyl bag were high than that in paper bag. Non-dripped vinyl perforation 50%, white painting bag brought into fruit cracking, shattering, and rotten fruit, making the investigation difficult. Maturation period preceded about 1-4 day with non-woven fabric and non-dripped vinyl compared with that in paper bag. Soluble solids content with non-woven fabric and non-dripped vinyl bags was high and acidity showed a reverse result. Coloring extent was developed rapidly with non-woven fabric and non-dripped vinyl than paper bag. During initial state of coloring, coloring was rapid with Maekban-Stone mixed non-woven fabric and non-dripped vinyl + non-woven fabric bag. This was rapid with non-woven fabric bag as long appropriate maturation period. Abnormal berry rate was 5.4-7.0% with paper and non-woven fabric bags but brought about as much as 16.6-100% with non-dripped vinyl and it's mixed bags. Appearance quality was the best with index 9.0 for non-woven fabric bag. Maekban-Stone mixed non-woven fabric but non-dripped vinyl performance 50% white painting bag was the least, showing index 1.0. The time consumed for maturation determination was reduced to 74-93% with non-woven fabric and non-dripped vinyl bag compared with 17.4h/10a with paper bag.

Semantic Analysis of Color Terms in Chinese Neologisms: Focusing on Black, White, and Gray (중국어 신조어에 나타난 색채어 의미 분석 - 검은색, 흰색, 회색을 중심으로 -)

  • A multitude of neologisms has entered the lexicon of modern Chinese society as a reflection of the changes modern Chinese society has undergone, and amid this trend, a variety of color terms has emerged. However, these neologisms of color terms in modern Chinese society are used somewhat differently from their roots. First, the achromatic color terms used in Chinese neologisms include black, white, and gray. The significance criteria generally used in these neologisms of color terms only partially express their meaning in the modern Chinese language. Second, the frequency usage of significant criteria of color terms that have emerged in Chinese neologisms reveals a relative distribution between color terms referring to black and white. The color term "black" is the most active neologism to connote its expanded meaning, followed by its basic meaning. However, the color term "white" is most actively used to connote its basic meaning, followed by its expanded meaning. Third, among the achromatic color terms used in Chinese neologisms, black and gray exhibit expansion of meaning. For example, in the context of neologisms, the color term "black" is used to symbolize "in disaster areas" and "socially discriminated against," while "gray" is used to symbolize the "social aspect."

Antioxidant and tyrosinase inhibitory activity of white beech mushroom (Hypsizygus marmoreus) extracts (흰색 느티만가닥버섯 추출물의 항산화 활성 및 tyrosinase 저해 효과)

  • The objective of this study was to evaluate antioxidant effect and tyrosinase inhibitory activity of white beech mushroom (Hypsizygus marmoreus) extracts. The white beech mushroom was extracted into hot water and methanol. Total polyphenol content was highest in the hot water extract ($8.4{\pm}3.27mg\;GAE/g$) compared to the methanol extract ($7.3{\pm}2.85mg\;GAE/g$). The flavonoids contents in hot water and methanol extracts were $3.8{\pm}3.81ug/mg$ and $2.5{\pm}1.95ug/mg$, respectively. The tyrosinase inhibitory activity of extract was increased in a dose dependent manner and tyrosinase inhibitory activity of extract (hot water extract, 69.72%; methanol extract, 52.67% at 40 mg/ml) was lower than those of positive control 2% arbutin (96%). The DPPH radical scavenging activity of the hot water and methanol extract was 80% and 74%, respectively. Hot water extract ($63.34{\pm}1.00uM\;TE/g$) were more effective in ORAC (oxygen radical absorbance capacity) value than methanol extract ($46.33{\pm}0.48uM\;TE/g$). The toxicity of hot water and methanol extracts was investigated using WST-1 (4-[3-(4-iodophenyl)-2-(4-nitrophenyl)-2H-5-tetrazolio]-1,3-benzene disulphonate) assay on the B16BL6 melanoma cells.
