  • The objective of this study is to document the secondary flow and the total pressure loss distribution in the contoured endwall installed linear turbine cascade passage and to propose an appropriate height of the contoured endwall which shows the best loss reduction among the simulated contoured endwall. In this study, three different contoured endwalls have been tested which have different height. This study was performed by numerical method and the result showed the contoured endwall which has the height of $5\%$ of the axial chord showed the best loss reduction rate.

  • In a screw-type centrifugal pump, the pump head deteriorates from single-phase flow to the choke due to an increased air entrainment at a wide tip clearance compared to that of a narrow tip clearance. Moreover, at a narrow tip clearance, the pump head became partially higher in a two-phase flow than that of a single-phase flow near the best efficiency point in low void fraction region. Therefore, we observed the internal flow pattern by using a stroboscope and we measured the mean size of bubbles from the images obtained with a high speed camera. Then, we investigated the influences of the mean size of bubbles, tip clearances and flow patterns on pump performance.

  • Accurate assessment of the effect of jet plume on the boattail pressure drag of transonic airbreathing missiles is very important to reduce drag and to satisfy the flight range and the required maneuver. Numerical results of drag analysis for boattail and base pressures due to jet plume are presented considering the turbulence modeling. Drag assessment due to the size of jet plume, the conditions of the exhaust gas, the configurations of the boattail, and transonic mach numbers is included.

  • A numerical investigation is made of air flow in a spinner equipment used for cleanning and drying flat display panels. A unique feature of the spinner under question is the placement of a torus plate cover over the rotating plate. The turbulent flow is driven by rotation of a large disk and suction by the exhaust system connected to vacuum chamber. The flow is modelled as an axisymmetric two-dimensional flow and computation is conducted by using the FLUENT package with a version of k-$\varepsilon$ turbulence model. The required capacity of the exhaust system is assessed numerically. The usefulness of the cover in controlling air flow circulation is examined. A computational trouble shooting is attempted to resolve the problem of panel rising which occurred in real experiment.

  • This paper was studied to design Process considered flexibility and reliability of suction and discharge valves. Flexibility and reliability of valves are main important factors in compressor valves design. And they are incompatible with efficiency of compressor. In this study, we have performed the optimal design of CO2 compressor valves to consider these factors. At first, we analyzed performance simulation of compressor to obtain optimal flexibility level of valves. From this simulation, we could get some important data at valve design like the optimal natural frequency and the height of retainer. After that we studied to reliability of valves corresponding to optimal flexibility level by finite element method. For each case bending stress and natural frequency were obtained by it. Also we investigated the fatigue stability to obtain optimal valve shape that ensured to reliability.

  • Computational and experimental studies on the forward-sweep inducer for the rocket-engine turbopump are presented in comparison with the conventional backward-sweep inducer. Computational results show that back flows at the inlet decrease in the case of forward-sweep inducers compared to the back-ward inducer. Moreover, the low pressure region at the back flow is decreased, which is presumed to improve the suction performance of the inducers. Experimental results show that the suction performance of the forward-sweep inducer is almost the same as that of the backward-sweep inducer although it has smaller inlet tip diameter and shorter length. The efficiency of the forward-type inducer is found better than that of the backward-sweep inducer due to the small size of back flows.

  • This study presents the measured unsteady flctuation of impeller discharge flow for a centrifugal compressor in an unstable operating region. The characteristics of the blade-to-blade flow at rotating stall onset were investigated by measuring unsteady velocity fluctuations at several different diffuser axial distances using a hot wire anemometer. The flow characteristics in terms of the radial and tangential velocity components and the flow angle distribution at the impeller exit were analyzed using phase-locked ensemble averaging techniques. As a result, increase or decrease of the radial velocity component during the rotating stall is dominated by that of the suction side. The radial velocity distributions show the opposite trends in the regions where the radial velocity during rotating stall onset increases and decreases.

  • A series of water tests of a fuel pump for liquid rocket engines are performed at a room temperature. According to the test results, the head coefficient of the pump follows the conventional similarity rule - unlike this, the pump shows better efficiency with higher rotational speed. Also, it is found that the pressure at the rear bearing outlet is higher than expected because the inlet of bypass pipe line is narrow. Furthermore, the cavitation performance of the fuel pump is found to be sufficient for the engine operation and is better at the lower flow ratio and higher rotational speed.

  • Effects of a booster inducer on the suction performance of turbopumps are investigated in this paper. To see the effect of the booster inducer, suction performance tests are conducted with and without the booster inducer for three turbopumps. It is shown that the booster inducer can enhance the suction performance of turbopumps when the tip clearance of the main inducers are relatively large. Numerical analysis are also carried out to see the effects of the booster inducer on the performance of the main inducer. The booster inducer is shown to increase the static pressure at the inlet of the main inducer and prevent growing of inlet back flows which are believed to have deleterious effects on the suction performance of the inducer.
