Relations among Body Shape Perception, Interpersonal Problems, and Spiritual Well-being in Late Adolescents (후기청소년의 체형 인식, 대인관계 문제 및 영적 안녕 간의 관계)

  • Purpose: This study is a descriptive survey to identify the relations of body shape perception, interpersonal problems, and spiritual well-being in late adolescents. Methods: The participants are 116 late adolescents in S and K city. This study was performed using a structured questionnaire from October 12 to November 16, 2012. The collected data were analyzed by t-test, Kruskal-Wallis test, Bonferroni correction, Pearson's correlation coefficient. Results: According to general characteristics of the participants, there were significant differences in body shape perception for gender, religion, experience of weight control, current body mass index, and wanted body mass index. There were significant differences in spiritual well-being for experience of drinking and religion. There was significant negative correlation between interpersonal problems and spiritual well-being. Conclusions: Therefore, nursing interventions will be needed to improve interpersonal problems and abnormal body shape perception and to enhance spiritual well-being of adolescents.

Career Development Experience of Youth in Late Adolescence who Entered a Different University after Taking a Semester off (반수로 대학에 진학한 후기 청소년들의 진로발달 경험 : 도돌이표를 지나도 반복되는 길)

  • This study aims to investigate the career development experience of youth in late adolescence who entered a different university after taking a semester off (as known as Bansu in Korean), in depth, applying a phenomenological research method. For the research, this study selected seven adolescents as research participants to reveal the essential meaning of their experience, vividly. The data were analyzed by Giorgi's method to draw components of the experience of research participants. As a result of the research, the career development experience of youth in late adolescence who entered a different university after taking a semester off was systematized into 19 sub-categories and structured into four main categories: "high school years in which academic record was more important than aptitude", "the step away from the dream, being forced to proceed to college", "the time of study to take the exam again, which was an advantage and disadvantage at the same time" and "the wish unfulfilled even with the success of entering a different university." It turned out that the main topic was "the repeated way even after passing the repeat sign." They took the College Scholastic Ability Test (CSAT) once again and came back to the narrow way to enter a prestigious university, but they still compromised the standard made by the older generation. This study has significance for late adolescents' welfare and happiness in that it explored the in-depth meanings of the career development experience of youth who entered a different university by taking the CSAT again after taking a semester off. Lastly, based upon the situation of the increase in the number of students who take the CSAT again, this study suggested better measures for career development during adolescence and the promotion of their quality of life.

Development of a CD Program Applied Logotherapy for Psycho.Spiritual Care of Late Adolescents with Terminal Cancer (청소년 후기 말기 암 환자의 정서적.영적 돌봄을 위한 의미요법 CD 프로그램 개발)

  • Purpose: The purpose of this study was to develop a CD program of applied logotherapy for psycho spiritual care of late adolescents with terminal cancer. Methods: Keller & Song's ARCS theory and a model for developing learning materials was applied to develop this program composed four distinct phases: planning, designing, developing, and evaluation stages. Results: This program was entitled 'Finding meaning in my life' and consisted of 5 sessions and its educational contents were made up as follows: "First Secret" is 'learning three natures of the human mind', "Second Secret" is 'learning creative values first method to find meaning of life', "Third Secret" is 'learning experiential value as second method to find meaning of life', "Fourth Secret" is 'learning attitudinal value as third method to find meaning of life', and "Fifth Secret" is 'Becoming the master of my life'. The sub-menu was made up of 'Beginning', 'Opening mind', 'Learning'. 'Laughing Song', 'Experiencing'. Conclusion: This CD program applied logotherapy with flash animation technique as an emotional and spiritual nursing intervention program for easier and more scientific application in pediatric oncology and hospice care area.

Adolescent Self-esteem, Career Identity, School Learning Activity and Life Satisfaction Change: From Middle School to High School (중학교에서 고3까지의 자아존중감, 진로정체감, 학습활동과 삶의 만족도 관계연구: 4년간의 변화를 중심으로)

  • This study utilized latent growth curve modeling to investigate the trajectories of adolescent life satisfaction changes in middle and high school students. The effects of self-esteem, career identity, school learning activity, gender, and household earnings on life satisfaction changes were examined. Data was obtained from the Korea Child Youth Panel Survey (KYCPS), a longitudinal study following students for 7 years. Year 3-6 data was utilized. Results found that the life satisfaction trajectory resulted as a quadratic model in which individual differences were significant. Second, school learning activity used as a time variant variable had a positive significant effect on life satisfaction each year. Third, gender and self-esteem as time invariant variables had significant effects on initial levels while self-esteem had effects on the slope and quadratic change. Further implications and research issues are discussed.

The Effect of Meaning of Parents to Depression : Mediating effect of Meaning in Life (자녀가 지각한 부모의 의미가 우울에 미치는 영향 : 삶의 의미의 매개효과)

  • The purpose of this study was to identify the differences of the meaning of parents in age, and relationship between meaning of parents, meaning in life and depression. The online survey data of 400 including 100 late-adolescents, 100 young adults, 100 mid adults, and 100 older adults was used. The main results were as follows. First, meaning of parents was positively correlated with meaning in life and negatively correlated with depression. Also meaning in life was negatively correlated with depression. Second, there were no age difference in meaning of parents in anova analysis. Third, through structural equation modeling showed that meaning of parents had significant effect on depression mediated by meaning in life. These findings suggested that meaning of parents and meaning in life can be protactive factors on depression. Finally, practical implications and limitataions were suggested for future research.

Result of Multiphasic Personality Inventory among Myasthenia Gravis in Late Adolescence Visiting for Conscription Examination (군신체검사를 받은 후기 청소년에서 중증근무력증의 다면적 인성검사 결과)

  • Objectives : The purpose of this study was to quantitatively assess the degree of myasthenia gravis (MG) affecting mental health through the results of multiphasic military personality inventory in late adolescence. Methods : We collected and analyzed the results of the military personality inventory for healthy controls and MG patients among the 19-year-old men who visited the Military Manpower Administration from February 2007 to January 2010. Military personality inventory invented for Korean military test has similar system to Minnesota multiphasic personality inventory. Results : Among validity scales, each score of faking good, faking bad and infrequency subscales showed no difference between healthy control and MG groups, respectively (t=-0.51, p=0.607 ; t=0.11, p=0.913 ; t=1.41, p=0.158). Among neurosis scales, the score of somatization subscale was higher (t=2.29, p=0.023) in MG group. Among psychopath scales, the score of schizophrenia subscale was lower in MG group (t=-2.38, p=0.018). Conclusions : According to MPI results, we can confirm that MG patients in late adolescence may be more concerned with their somatic symptoms than the control group, and that they may be more likely to abide by the regulation and be conventional in their behavior than the control group.

The Concurrent and Lagged Effects of Parental Neglect and Abuse on Longitudinal Changes in Late Childhood School Adjustment (후기 아동기 학교적응 변화에 대한 부모 방임과 학대 경향성의 동시 및 지연효과)

  • The purpose of this study was to explore the concurrent and lagged effects of parental neglect and abuse on longitudinal changes in late childhood school adjustment. This study utilized survey data from the fourth through seventh iterations of the Korean Child Youth Panel Study conducted on fourth-year elementary school students through first-year middle school students. The data was analyzed using latent growth modeling. The results were as follows. First, the level of school adjustment decreased gradually. Second, both neglect and abuse had concurrent effects on school adjustment. Third, neglect had lagged effects on school adjustment but abuse did not. The paper discusses the implications of these results. The results of this study can be used to better understand and support children who have suffered neglect or abuse adjust to school during late childhood.

Effects of Family Cohesion and Self-Efficacy on School Adjustments in Adolescence (청소년기 학교적응에 대한 가족응집력과 자기효능감의 영향)

  • 본 연구의 목적은 초기~후기 청소년기의 학교적응력을 향상시키기 위하여 이에 영향을 미치는 가족 및 개인 요인과의 관계를 검증하고자 하는 것이다. 보다 구체적으로, 가족요인으로서 가족응집력과 개인요인으로서 자기효능감, 그리고 학교적응 간의 관계에 대한 연구모형을 설정하고 이들 간의 관계를 검증하고자 하였다. 이를 위하여 본 연구에서는 2010 한국청소년건강실태조사(Korean Survey on the Health of Youth and Children in 2010)를 통하여 9,844명의 제주도를 제외한 전국 초등학교 4~6학년생과 중 고등학생을 대상으로 수집된 자료에 대하여 구조방정식모형을 이용하여 그 적합도와 주요 변수들 간의 경로의 유의성을 확인하였다. 분석 결과, 본 연구에서 설정된 연구모형의 적합도는 양호한 것으로 나타났으며, 가족응집력은 자기효능감과 학교적응에 각각 정적으로 유의한 영향을 미치며, 자기효능감 역시 학교적응에 정적으로 유의한 영향을 미치는 것으로 확인되었다. 그리고 가족응집력과 학교적응 사이에서의 자기효능감은 통계적으로도 유의한 매개효과를 가지는 것으로 나타났다. 이러한 연구결과에 근거하여 학령기 청소년의 학교적응을 향상시킬 수 있는 개입 방안에 대한 함의를 제시하였다.
