We conducted structural analysis to investigate disadvantage of wire-mesh arranged at the plane and to develop three-dimensionally bent U-type wire-mesh. In all case that distributed loading at the whole top slab and the half top slab, and the wire mesh was bent $45^{\circ}$, flexura tensile stress was the fewest in both positive moment and negative moment, and the wire mesh was bent $45^{\circ}$ in crossway the shear stresss was the fewest. Therefore, by arranging wire-mesh with $45^{\circ}$ more bent than plane, flexura tensile stress, shear stress, displacement will be reduced and structural function will be improved.

The cross-sections of continuous multi-span beams sometimes suddenly increase, or become stepped, at the interior supports of continuous beams to resist high negative moments. The three-dimensional finite-element program ABAQUS (2006) was used to analytically investigate the inelastic lateral-torsional buckling behavior of stepped beams subjected to pure bending moment and resulted in the development of design equations. The flanges of the smaller cross-section were fixed at 30.48 by 2.54 cm, whereas the width and/or thickness of the flanges of the larger cross-section varied. The web thickness and height of beam was kept at 1.65 cm and 88.9 cm, respectively. The ratios of the flange thickness, flange width, and stepped length of beams are considered analytical parameters. Two groups of 27 cases and 35 cases, respectively, were analyzed for double and single stepped beams. The combined effects of residual stresses and geometrical imperfection on inelastic lateral-torsional buckling of beams are considered. First, the distributions of residual stress of the cross-section is same as shown in Pi, etc (1995), and the initial geometric imperfection of the beam is set by central displacement equal to 0.1% of the unbraced length of beam. The new proposed equations definitely improve current design methods for the inelastic LTB problem and increase efficiency in building and bridge design. The proposed solutions can be easily used to develop new design equation for inelastic LTB resistance of stepped beams subjected to general loading condition such as a concentrated load, a series of concentrated loads or uniformly distributed load.
In cases of the loosely accumulated ground and soft clayey soils, the settlement criterion usually governs in evaluating the stability of structures. The settlement is also a dominant factor to control the design of granular compaction piles mainly applied to the reinforcement of foundation structures in soft ground. In the previous studies, settlement behaviors of granular compaction piles have generally been analyzed with an evaluation of the settlement reduction factor based on the load-sharing ratio and the replacement ratio. In this approach, however, since the reinforced ground with granular compaction piles is simplified as the composite ground, only the difference of a relative vertical strength between piles and soils is taken into account without reflecting lateral behaviors of granular compaction piles. In the present study, the method of estimating the settlement of granular compaction piles is proposed by synthetically considering a vertical strength of the ground, lateral behaviors of granular compaction piles, the strength of pile materials, a pile diameter, and an installation distance of the pile. Further, far the verification of a validity of the proposed method, predicted settlements are compared with results from previous studies. In addition, parametric studies are performed together with detailed analyses of relevant design parameters.
Concrete columns confined with high-strength fiber composites can enhance its strength as well as maximum strain. In recent years, several equations have been developed to predict the behavior of the concrete columns confined with fiber composites. While the developed equations can predict the compressive strength of the confined columns with reasonable agreement, these equations are not successful in predicting the observed maximum strain of the columns. In this paper, a total of 61 test results is analysed to propose an equation to predict both compressive strength and maximum strain of concrete cylinders. The proposed equation takes into account the effects of confining pressure and cylinder size. Furthermore, in order to verify the proposed stress-strain curve for concrete cylinders, six cylindrical specimens were tested. Comparisons between the observed and calculated stress-strain curves of the tested cylinders showed reasonable agreement.

In the present study, crack initiation criteria, static failure and tensile mode fatigue behavior for a rail steel are evaluated to assure the railway vehicle's safety. The transverse fissure, which is the most critical damage in the rail, is initiated by the maximum shear stress and its location is subsurface. In addition, the possibility of transition from the shear mode to the mixed mode increases with increasing the length of subsurface crack. Because of the brittleness by the welding, the fracture toughness of the welded part is lower than of the base metal. For low ${\Delta}K$, the stage II fatigue crack growth rates of the welded part is slower than of the base metal but, for high ${\Delta}K$, this different behavior for fatigue crack growth rate is nearly diminished. These trends are more remarkable for low stress ratio, R=0.1. It is believed that this behavior is caused by the change of the microstructure which that of the welded part is coarser than of base metal.
I n this paper, an experimental research was carried out to investigate the confinement effect
of spiral reinforcements in concrete column specimens subjected to t.he concentric axial corn
pressive loads. Main variables were the compressive strengths of concrete of 27.2, 62.4 and 81.2
MPa, and the spacings of spirals of 120, 60, 40, 30, 25 and 20mm. and the yield strengths of spir
als of 451 and 1375MPa, respectively. For the same volumetric ratio and yield strength of spir
als, it was shown that the strength increment of confined concrete was almost same regardless
of the strength of unconfined concrete, however, the axial stram at maximum stress was decreas
ed with increasing of the compressive strength of unconfined concrete.
Slippage of beam longitudinal reinforcement at beam-column connections is an important cause of damage to reinforced concrete frames under static and dynamic loads, This paper summarizes the results of an experimen¬tal study on the effects of confinements and compressive strength of concrete on the local bond stress-slip cha¬racteristics of deformed bars. I t is concluded from experimental results that, as far as the bond splittmg cracks are restrained by the vertical column reinforcement, confinement of concrete by transverse reinforcement has insignigicant direct effect on the local bond behavior. The ultimate bond strength, however, Increases pro¬portionally with the square root of concrete compressive strength. An empirical model was developed for local bond st ressslip relationslip of deformed bars in confined concrete of different compressive strengths.
Fixed connection is generally used for beam and column connections of concrete structures, but significant damages at the connection due to severe earthquakes have been reported. In order to reduce damages of the connection and improve seismic performance of the connection, several innovative connections have been suggested. One newly proposed connection type allows a rotation of the connection for applications in rotating or rocking beams, columns, and shear walls. Such structural elements would provide a nonlinear lateral force-displacement response since their contact depth developed during rotation is gradually reduced and the stress across the sections of the elements is non-linearly distributed around a contact area, which is called an elastic hinge region in the present study. The purpose of the present study is to define the elastic hinge region or length for the rocking columns, through investigating the cross-sectional stress distribution during their lateral behavior. Performing a finite element analysis (FEA), several parameters are considered including axial load levels (5% and 10% of nominal strength), different boundary conditions (confined-ends and cantilever types), and slenderness ratios (length/depth = 5, 7, 10). The FEA results showed that the elastic hinge length does not directly depend on the parameters considered, but it is governed by a contact depth only. The elastic hinge length started to develop after an opening state and increased non-linearly until a rocking point(pre-rocking). However, the length did not increase any more after the rocking point (post-rocking) and remained as a constant value. Half space model predicting the elastic hinge length is adapted and the results are compared with the numerical results.

In this paper, mechanical behavior of unidirectional composites with flexible matrix was predicted by geometrical non-linear finite element analysis. Two typical idealized unit cells of square and hexagonal fiber arrays were modeled and these were subjected to different loadings. The stress-strain behavior of composites was predicted from which the effective properties were calculated. The hyperelasticity of polyurethane matrix was considered using Mooney-Rivlin model. In result, the stress-strain behavior of flexible composites shows non-linearity, especially it is remarkable under transverse normal and shear loading conditions. In this cases, there are great difference between square and hexagonal fiber array models.
The impulsive stress and wave propagation of a glass/epoxy laminate subjected to the transverse low-velocity impact of a steel ball are investigated theoretically and experimentally. A plate finite element model based on Whitney and Pagano's theory In consunchon with experimental contact laws is used for the theoretical investigation. The specimens fo, statical indentation and impact test we composed of [0/45/0/-45/0]$_{2s}$ and [90/45/90/-45/90]$_{2s}$ stacking sequences and have clamped-simply supported boundary conditions. Finally, these two results are compared and then the impulsive stress and wave propagation characteristics of this laminated composite are studied.ied.
