  • In this study, inhomogeneous amplitude modulation effects on the imaging performance a lens system are expermentally investigated by measuring the diffraction OTF. The lens under the test is a binocular objective made in Korea. Inhomogeneous amplitude modulation is carried out by positioning the modulator cross contacted to the lens under test which is illuminated by collimated light beam. The aberration characteristics of the lens under test are examined by caculating the ray-fan through finite ray tracing. The MTFs of the lens illuminated by the homogeneous and inhomogeneous light beam are measured on the Gaussian image plane and compared with one another.

  • This paper describes the design and fabrication of mid-IR $(3.7-4.8{\mu}m)$ zoom optics which is used for FUR (Forward Looking Infra-Red) system with 320 $\times$ 240 focal plane arrays. The zoom optics has 20 magnification range and maximun 40$^{\circ}$$\times$30$^{\circ}$ of super wide field of view. The locus of zoom is almost linear, which gives easy access of mechanical and electro-mechanical design. The on-axis MTF of zoom optics has been measured and it shows diffraction limited optical performance. For example, it gives 0.692 at 24 cycles/mm at highest magnification, and 7.6 cycles/mradof resolving power is achieved with the operation of attached micro-scanning system.system.

  • An F/1.2 infrared optical system that involves two aspheric BD-2 lenses and an aspheric diffractive surface was designed over $8-14{\mu}m$ with a field angle of $15.2^{\circ}$. The system may be used in uncooled cameras and is analyzed using beam synthesis propagation (BSP). The diffractive surface is modeled as a physical surface with a given thickness, and results are compared with those obtained by conventional methods, such as the exit-pupil method and a method which superposes diffraction orders.

  • To minimize chromatic variations across a wavelength band, we suggest a new design that corrects the first- and second-order wavelength derivatives of the refractive power. Based on this method, a diffraction-limited collimator is designed. The design is very stable against wavelength change, as expected. The chromatic change of the effective focal length is less than 0.002% in the wavelength range from 360 to 410 nm.

  • A micro lens system was designed for the modulator in optical fiber communication. One was the collimating lens which transferred the diffracted beam from optical fiber to the modulator. The other was the coupling lens which connected the modulated collimating beam to the optical fiber. The light source was He-Ne laser beam. The lens would be made of optical glass BK-7. We determined the tolerance of curvature radius, thickness and conic constant.

  • This study explores the compression molding of diffractive-aspheric lenses using GeSbSe chalcogenide glasses. A mold core with diffractive structure was prepared and a chalcogenide glass lens was molded at various temperatures using the corresponding core. The effect of molding temperature on the transcription characteristics of diffractive structure was examined, by measuring and comparing the diffractive structure between the mold core and the molded chalcogenide glass lens using a microscope and a white light interferometer. In addition, the applicability of the molded lens for thermal imaging was evaluated, by measuring the form error.

  • The modulation transfer function is generally used as a method to estimate the characteristics of this kind of optical system because it cannot reappear or implement image of the object perfect. By the way, it is difficult to assess the optical system with existing MTF method since the reaction between diffraction and aberration of aperture is very complicate if the aberration is very small. The MTF has to be calculated considering the numerical aperture, defocusing, OPD and phase difference. We validate its feasibility using bessel function as an estimating method, and then realize it through illustration in this paper.

  • This paper presents the influence of the additive composition on flexural strength and hardness of SiC-TiC composites materials for spectacle lens cutting materials. The materials were hot-pressed at $1800^{\circ}C$ and subsequently annealed at $1910^{\circ}C$ for 3h. The heating rate was $15^{\circ}C/min$ and the cooling rate about $25^{\circ}C/min$ in from the sintering temperature to $1300^{\circ}C$. The growth of particles of spectacle lens cutting materials was analysed by SEM and crystalline phases were discussed by x-ray diffractometry. Typical fracture toughness and hardness of materials for spectacle lens cutting were $6.1MPa{\cdot}m^{1/2}$ and 14.9 GPa, respectively.

  • A Netspec lens has the form having the 2-dimensional mesh coating on a general ophthalmic lens. It is known that it makes the ophthalmic image see more clearly, reducing the ophthalmic fatigue and that the transmittance of it for ultraviolet and infrared rays is lower. We need to prove this characteristic scientifically. So, in this study, we applied the Kirchhoff's scalar wave theory to the Netspec lens and induced a transmittance expression. And we made the program of which simulation can explain the transmittance effect of the Netspec lens. Also, we tried the interpreting about the result of the simulation. Finally, we have known that this simulation program can be used to adjust the transmittance of the light according to the wavelength.

  • We provide a detailed description of the installation and operation of a remote spectroscopic meteor observation system at Unjangsan optical astronomy observatory. Three light-sensitive charge-coupled device cameras were installed, and two cameras had a diffraction grating attached to the front of the lens. Station employ sensitive "Watec-902H2" cameras in combination with f/1.2 lenses were installed in November 2019. Diffraction gratings for spectral observations were used at 500 l/mm. Observations were conducted from November 2019 to June 2020. We employed the SonotaCo UFO software suite for meteor detection. Subsequently, meteor spectra were analyzed using field-tested RSpec software. To analyze the observation images, astronomical calibration and photometric calibration were performed, and the chemical elements of the meteor were determined. The study results are presented along with the system setup installation and operation experience. Brief information regarding the origin of the meteor was also provided based on the results.
