Three-Dimensional Analysis on Drying Process of a Cylindrical Thin Film Layer of Sludge under Uniform Heating (일정온도로 가열되는 원통 형상 슬러지 박막의 건조에 대한 3차원 해석)

  • Drying process in the cylindrical thin film layer of sludge with the thickness less than a few millimeters has been investigated. Thin film drying is specially designed and used to dry the viscous materials like sewage sludge. The thin film layer of sludge is dried on the metallic cylindrical surface through which thermal energy is supplied to the layer during drying. The wall temperature is assumed to be constant during drying in the present study for the simplification. In order to solve the equations, the mass transfer rate on the drying surface should be determined. The mass flux of evaporated water vapor on the surface is estimated with the formulation given in the literature. The effect of some physical parameters on drying has been examined to figure out the drying characteristics of the sludge layer.

  • 대류-대류의 복합 열전달 문제를 유한차분법을 사용하여 수치적으로 연구하였다. 아래로부터 가열되는 직사각형 공동 내에서의 자연 대류와 공동 위쪽의 외부 난류 경계층 유동이 복합된 경우의 열전당 현상을 고려하였다. 두개의 서로 다른 모우드의 대류가 온도 분포가 미리 알려져 있지 않은 얇은 수평평판에 의해 분리되어져 있다는 점이 본 논문의 특이점이다. 수치적 해석은 Reynolds 수와 Grashof 수 및 공동의 기하학적 종횡비의 매개 변수적 효과가 발견되도록 행하여 졌다. 외부 난류 경계층 유동의 강도에 따라 공동 내에서의 유동 형태가 변할 수 있음을 알았다. 즉 내부 부력 세포의 회전 방향은 외부 유동의 존재에 의해 특성적으로 정해지며 공동 내의 유동 세포의 수는 Grashof 수가 증가 할수록 많아진다.

Thixotropic Properties of Gelatinized Rice Starch Solutions (쌀 전분 호화액의 틱소트로픽 성질)

  • Rheological properties of gelatinized rice starch solutions were investigated with Brookfield rotational viscometer. The 8% starch solution showed thixotropic behavior with yield stress. The alkali gelatinized starch was more thixotropic than the thermal gelatinized one. The time dependent characteristics of starch solutions followed Tiu's model. The value of rate constant $(a_1)$ in Tiu's model increased linearly with shear rate, and was exponentially dependent on concentration and temperature. Temperature dependency of rate constant and apparent viscosity followed Arrhenius type equation and the activation energy were about 14.3 and 6.8 Kcal/g mole, respectively. The $a_1-value$ was found to be useful to evaluate changes in structaral decay on the shearing time of gelatinized rice starch solutions.

  • In this paper, the optimum RPM was suggested comparing rotor filling rate of RPM through the analysis of rotor's filling rate as studying and developing centrifugal-casting machine's method for high precision rotor in order to increase the related types of business's productivity. The result was similar to other result in industrial site, showing 99.47% of filling rate when rotational speeds are 600 rpm, so it is considered that if this result is conducted with additional research, it will be possible to plan a better process design. Besides, the optimum temperature of compact ladle was examined to produce high quality casting product through the analysis of compact ladle's conductivity. In the case of the heating device's absence using nicrome wire, Al solution solidifies falling drastically into $427^{\circ}C$. However, it is feasible to work over $427^{\circ}C$ which is the melting temperature of aluminium solution when the heating device of nicrome wire is included. It reveals that there is little temperature change.

  • XRD studies on annealed Na-feldspar (Amelia albite) at $1100^{\circ}C$ showed rapid structural changes due to Si-Al disordering, which resulted in phase transformations from low albite to high albite by 4-days annealing test. TEM SAED analyses on the annealed samples revealed a trend of structural changes, but estimation of the structural state was difficult due to a large deviation of the SAED data. Optimum conditions of CBED analyses on albite was established by employing a cooling specimen holder, 120 kV of acceleration voltage, 37 Jim of condenser aperture size and 25 nm of spot size. A proper orientation showing distinct changes of HOLZ lines corresponding to the structure changes of albite turned out to be close to the [418] direction with $-1.2^{\circ}$ tilting, where the width of two HOLZ lines in low albite was opposite to those in high albite.

  • Seed separation out of fresh red pepper by impact methods was effective but impossible to separate over 45% of seed. For the increase of seed separation, dehydration effect was studied with the slices of pepper. Heat deformation during the course of drying at hot air of 0. 61m/sec velocity at temperature of $65^{\circ}C$, increased the separation up to 93% with a halfcut pepper. Seed separation was remarkably different upon the location of cut, but it was completed prio tothe completion of drying in every cutting orientations. From these results a simultaneous seed separation and drying operation techniques is successfully developed.

Effects of Extrusion Process Parameters on Puffing of Extruded Pellets (압출성형 공정변수가 압출성형 펠릿의 팽화에 미치는 영향)

  • Pressure-puffing system or extruder has been used to puff rice kernel or rice flour. Most of the study on rice puffing were the effect of process conditions such as moisture content and heating temperature on physical and chemical characteristics of popped rice. The study on mechanism and development of instant puffed rice like popcorn has been limited. Extruded waxy rice pellets were puffed in a microwave oven after drying and conditioning. Extruded pellets were formed with extrusion conditions of $20{\sim}27%$ moisture content, 2.76 MPa $CO_2$ gas injection pressure and 200 rpm screw speed. Under these conditions, puffed waxy rice pellets in microwave oven had low density and soft texture. Density and texture of puffed waxy rice pellet could be optimized by control of moisture content, $CO_2$ gas injection pressure and screw speed that affect significantly when puffing extruded waxy rice pellet.

Rheological Properties of Chestnut Starch Solution (밤전분 수용액의 리올로지 특성)

  • Rheological properties of chestnut starch suspensions (3 and 4%, db) and gelatinized starch (4%, db) were investigated with a capillary and rotational viscometer, respectively. Starch suspensions had no yield stress and showed dilatant flow behavior in the temperature ranges of $30-65^{\circ}C$. However, starch suspension showed pseudoplastic flow behavior at $70^{\circ}C\; and\;above\; 65^{\circ}C$ for 3 and 4% concentration, respectively Flow activation energy below $50^{\circ}C$ was 0.56 kcal/mole but increased to 51.9-80.8 kcal/mole at $60-70^{\circ}C$. The behavior of gelatinized starch (4%) was pseudoplastic regardless of heating temperature $(65-80^{\circ}C)$ and time (15-60 min). The apparent viscosity of the starch remained constant after heating at $80^{\circ}C$ for 45 min. The swelling power and log apparent viscosity showed similar pattern. The activation energy of the apparent viscosity of the geletinized starch at $70-80^{\circ}C$ was 13.09kcal/mole. The apparent viscosity of thermal-gelatinized $(90^{\circ}C)$ starch was lower than that of 15 psi-gelatinized starch.

  • This study deals with the Benard flow of magnetic fluids in a rectangular cavity. The ratio of height to length of the cavity is 1 : 4 and the bottom of the cavity is assumed to be a heating face while the other sides are to be cooling faces. When magnetic field was equally impressed, considering the internal rotation of the elementary ferromagnetic particle, we found the following result from the numerical analysis of the GSMAC algorithm applied to the equations for the magnetic fluid. Benard flow was controled by the intensity and the direction of magnetic fields, and a critical point was appeared when the magnetic field near H=-7000 was applied.

  • Single crystals of yttrium iron garnet $(YIG:Y_3Fe_5O_{12})$have been grown by a modified floating zone crystal growth technique(Traveling Solvent Floating Zone, TSFZ method) using an infrared radiation convergence type heater. A series of evaluations for the resulting YIG single crystals were carried out. The grown crystals are 5~6mm in diameter and 15~35mm in length. The conditions of single crystal growth were as follows; growth rate 1mm/h, rotation rate 30rpm, gas flow rate 0.2 1/min., zone aspect ratio 1, convexity of interface 0.29, respectively.
