Leaching tests were conducted using sulfuric acid and sodium hydroxide solutions to remove impurities from domestic graphite concentrate. As a result of the leaching experiment using sulfuric acid solution and sodium hydroxide solution, respectively, the difference of removal efficiency was insignificant when the concentration of sodium hydroxide or sulfuric acid was 2 mol/L or more. The fixed carbon content increased with increasing the temperature in the sulfuric acid solution leaching, while it remains constant above 150℃ in sodium hydroxide solution. For the repeated sequential leaching tests, the leaching conditions were 2 mol/L NaOH, 200℃, 1 hour in the sodium hydroxide solution leaching and 2 mol/L H2SO4, 100℃, 1 hour in the sulfuric acid solution leaching, respectively. When sulfuric acid leaching followed by sodium hydroxide solution leaching was repeated 5 times, the fixed carbon increased to 99.95% and ash content decreased to 0.048%, while the fixed carbon increased to 99.98% and ash content was reduced to 0.018 when sodium hydroxide solution leaching followed by sulfuric acid solution leaching was repeated 5 times.
A kinetics study on the dissolution reaction of zinc-ferrite has been made with aqueous sulfuric acid in various temperature and concentration. Fraction reacted(R) and apparent rate constant(K) increased with increasing temperature and concentration of sulfuric acid solution. The rate of dissolution is shown by $1-(1-K)^{1/3}=Kt$ for the initial stage of the reaction in aqueous sulfuric acid, where K is apparent rate constant, R is fraction reacted and t is reaction time, respectively. Activation energy associated with reaction was determined to be 16.3 kcal/mole. The dissolution of zinc-ferrite in sulfuric acid solution is dissolved by sto-ichiometric composition, but Fe and Zn did not dissolved, respectively.
This study was designed to observe the effects of various concentration of polyacrylic acid containing different concentration of sulfate ion on the crystal formation on the enamel surface. Experimental crystal growth solutions were made of $10\%,\;20\%,\;30\%\;and\;40\%$ polyacrylic acid(molecular weight,5,000) solutions which containing 0.1M, 0.2M, 0.3M, 0.5M, and 1.0M sulfate ion respectively. The extracted human first bicuspid enamel surface was contacted for n seconds with these solutions, washed for 15 seconds, dried, and then the crystal topography on the enamel surface was observed under the scanning electron microscope. The crystal topography were evaluated on the SEM photographs by degree of crystal coverage, crystal length, and consistency of crystal morphology, and conclusions were as the follows. 1. Polyacrylic acid solution etched slightly the enamel surface, and the difference of etching effect by its concentration was not observed. 2. The effect of concentration of polyacrylic acid on the crystal formation was less, especially that of $20\%\~40\%$ polyacrylic acid was almost not different. 3. Concentration of the sulfate ion was a determinant factor in precipitating crystals on the enamel. The experimental crystal growth solutions containing 0.1 M sulfate ion did not make crystal formation but those containing over 0.2 M sulfate ion did. 4. The degree of crystal coverage showed a tendency to increase and then decrease according to the concentration of sulfate ion in the $20\%-40\%$ polyacrylic acid. The experimental solutions containing 0.5 M sulfate ion showed the peak of degree of crystal coverage. 5. The crystal length showed a tendency to decrease by increment of sulfate ion in the polyacrylic acid solution. 6. There was a tendency to increase the frequency of random arragement of short crystals when increasing the concentration of sulfate ion in the polyacrylic acid solution. The lower concentration of sulfate ion in the polyacrylic acid solutions tended to make spherulitic arrangement of crystals, the higher concentration of sulfate ion, the more random arrangement of crystals. The experimental solutions containing 0.5M sulfate ion showed more spherulitic arrangement than random arrangement of crystals. 7. The best one of these experimental crystal growth solutions was $30\%$ polyacrylic acid solution containing 0.5M sulfate ion.
Stripping experiments of iron from the loaded Alamine336 by sulfurous, chloric and sulfuric acid solutions have been performed by varying the concentration of acid and stripping conditions. The stripping percentage of iron decreased with the increase of HCl and $H_{2}SO_4$ concentration, while that increased with the increase of $H_{2}SO_3$ concentration up to 3 M. Stripping temperature had adverse effect on the stripping percentage of iron in the stripping by $H_{2}SO_3$ solution, while the stripping percentage of iron by HCl solution increased with the increase of temperature. Stripping isotherm of iron by 0.1 M HCl and 0.1 M $H_{2}SO_4$ solution indicated that three and four stripping stages could result in a solution containing 0.05 M iron at an O/A ratio of 1/10 from the loaded Alamine336 phase where iron concentration was 0.5 M.
${SO_4}^{2-}$ ions present in industrial waste water if combined with other metal ions in the water can cause serious scale problem in a transporting pipe. In this study therefore ${SO_4}^{2-}$ ions in an acidic solution have been removed by using surface active glasses. Glasses with various compositions of $SiO_2-Na_2O-B_2O_3-RO$ (R=Mg, Ca, Sr, Ba) system were reacted in a ${SO_4}^{2-}$ ion-containing solution with various pHs ranging from 1 to 4 for various time the reacted glass surfaces were analyzed by XRD and SEM and all ions in the reacted solution were also measured ${SO_4}^{2-}$ ions in the solution were combined with divalent ions leached out of glass and precipitated on the glass surface as sulfate crystals. In this was the surface ion could be removed from the acidic solution. The sulfate ion removal capacity is closely related to the solubility product con-stants of the newly formed sulfate crystals. Almost no sulfate crystal was formed on the MgO-containing glass while sulfate crystals were easily formed on the glass containing either SrO or BaO This indicates that those glasses have strong removal efficiency of ${SO_4}^{2-}$ ions from the solution.

Reduction smelting of spent lithium-ion batteries at high temperature produces metallic alloys. Following solvent extraction of the leaching solutions of these metallic alloys with either sulfuric or hydrochloric acid, the raffinate is found to contain Ni(II), Co(II), Mn(II), and Si(IV). In this study, two cationic exchange resins (Diphonix and P204) were employed to investigate the loading behavior of these ions from synthetic sulfate and chloride solutions. Experimental results showed that Ni(II), Co(II), and Mn(II) could be selectively loaded onto the Diphonix resin from a sulfate solution of pH 3.0. With a chloride solution of pH 6.0, Mn(II) was selectively loaded onto the P204 resin, leaving Ni(II) and Si(IV) in the effluent. Elution experiments with H2SO4 and/or HCl resulted in the complete recovery of metal ions from the loaded resin.
This paper reports an experimental study on the damage mechanism and resistance of Type I portland cement mortar and paste samples exposed to 5% sodium sulfate solution with different solution temperatures; namely, $4^{\circ}C$, $10^{\circ}C$ and $20^{\circ}C$. The resistance of mortar samples was evaluated using expansion, compressive strength and flexural strength measurements. Some microstructural observations such as x-ray diffraction, differential scanning calorimetry and scanning electron microscopy were also introduced to elucidate reactants formed by sulfate attack, especially in a low temperature condition. From the results, it was found that the degree of damage in the mortar samples was significantly associated with the temperature of sulfate solution. Low temperature of the sulfate solution led to the formation of thaumasite in mortar and paste samples, and subsequently a poor resistance to sulfate attack. Thus, it is noted that when concrete structures are exposed to sulfate media in the condition of a cold region or whether, special care should be taken.
To investigate the separation of La(III) from sulfuric acid solutions containing Fe(III), rare earth double salt precipitation experiments were performed by adding sodium sulfate. In this work, the effect of sodium sulfate, Fe(III), and La(III) concentrations; reaction temperature; and time was investigated. The extent of precipitation of La(III) was proportional to the concentrations of Na+ and SO42- in the solution. As the reaction temperature increased to 100 ℃, the extent of precipitation of La(III) increased. The extent of precipitation of Fe(III) decreased with increasing reaction time. The concentration ratio of Fe(III) to La(III) did not have a significant effect on the precipitation of La(III). Our results indicate that it is possible to separate La(III) from a ferric sulfate solution through selective precipitation by adding sodium sulfate.

Recovery of sulfuric acid is very important after biomass converted to sugar by acid hydrolysis. In this work, the separation of sulfuric acid from sulfuric acid/glucose solution was studied by electrodiaysis. Three chamber method, which requires both anion membrane and cation membrane, is the most commonly used in the electrodialysis process, but two chamber method using only an anion membrane was the focus of this study. Sulfuric acid was perfectly separated from a mixture of 10~30 wt% glucose and 1~3 M sulfuric acid by electrodialysis using two chamber method. The separation rate of sulfuric acid lineary increased with higher current density when the affect of diffusion and convection of the membrane was small. Without electric energy, 45% of sulfuric acid was separated by diffusion and convection only.
