White coloring of anodized aluminum (알루미늄의 White Color 구현을 위한 양극산화처리 기술)

  • 삼성, LG전자 등 다양한 사업부의 White Anodizing구현기술의 Need는 항상 존재하고 있으며, 특히 White와 Black Color의 콤비네이션으로 친환경 이미지 강조 및 핸드폰의 고급화에 필연적인 메탈화로 작년부터 White Anodizing의 수요요청이 쇄도하고 있다. 그러나 현행 공업용 Anodizing 기술(황산법)은 봉공처리 전 착색공정에서 Red, Blue, Black 등 염료분자와 달리 염료 분자가 비교적 큰 White 염료는 Anodizing으로 성장된 다공성피막 내부로 들어가지 못해 국내 Anodizing전문기업 뿐만아니라 일본 기업 및 연구소 등에서도 무수한 시도를 하고 있지만 현재까지는 완벽한 White Anodizing구현기술이 전무한 상태이다. 이에 당사는 알루미늄합금을 White의 안료나 염료가 아닌 알칼리전해액의 Pulse전류인가 PEO(Plasma electrolytic oxidation)처리 공정에 의거 White Anodizing기술을 개발하고자 하였다. 알칼리 전해질에 의한 Anodizing 처리기술로 White와 유사한 색상을 구현하고 있으나, 수요자가 요구하는 White Anodizing으로 제품을 양산하는데 어려움이 있어 기존 Anodizing 처리 대신 Pulse전류인가 PEO처리기술로 White Color를 구현하여 수요요청이 쇄도한 국내외 기업체에 공급하고자 한다. 본 기술은 알카리 전해액을 사용하므로 친환경적이며, 다공성 피막으로 인한 우수한 도장 밀착성, 실링처리에 의한 내식성 향상, PEO 피막의 우수한 경도 및 내마모성 등을 나타내며, 알루미늄뿐만 아니라 마그네슘합금, 티타늄 등에도 공히 적용이 가능하며, White Anodizing의 특화된 기술로 표면처리기술 우위 선점 및 원가절감 등이 가능하다. 당사는 알루미늄 아노다이징 전문 기업으로서 내식성 목적의 연질 아노다이징 처리 및 고내마모성을 목적으로 하는 자동차 부품 및 기계 부품용 경질 아노다이징 처리를 주로 수행하고 있다. 본 발표에서는 당사의 표면처리 기술 및 알루미늄의 아노다이징에 대한 소개를 하고자 한다.

Surface Modification of Low Density Polyethylene and Adhesion Characteristics of Low Density Polyethylene/Aluminum Laminate (저밀도 폴리에틸렌의 표면개질과 이를 이용한 저밀도 폴리에틸렌/알루미늄 라미네이트의 접착특성)

  • Ultraviolet photografting of acrylic acid onto low density polyethylene was characterized using XPS and contact angle measurement. Effects of surface modification at LDPE and aluminum on LDPE/Al laminate were also investigated. Contact angle decreased significantly at initial state arid tends to level off with increasing UV irradiation time. The improvement of hydrophilicity was due to the presence of acrylic acid on LDPE surface. Graft of acrylic acid onto LDPE was also identified from O1s/C1s ratios in XPS spectrum. Adhesion strength of LDPE-g-AAc/Al laminate showed about 30 times higher than LDPE/A1 system and it could be attributed to the increase of polarity of LDPE surface. Chemical treatment of Al surface using sulfuric acid/sodium dichromate also increased the adhesion strength of LDPE/Al laminate. Adhesion strength of LDPE/Al laminate decreased significantly under acetic acid.

The Application of Aluminum Coagulant for the Improvement of Water Quality in Three Recreational Ponds (알루미늄 응집제를 사용한 호수수질 개선 사례 연구)

  • Aluminum coagulant was applied to two eutrophic lakes (Lake Sukchon, in Seoul, and a pond on the campus of Kangwon National University), to precipitate suspended particles and phosphate from the water column. Aluminum sulfate (alum) was used for seven treatments and polyaluminum chloride (PAC) was used for one treatment. The effect of treatment varied depending on the dose of alumium coagulant. Particles and phosphate were completely precipitated from the water column with a dose of 10.0 mgAl/l. Partial removal was observed at doses of 3.3 and 1.8 mgAl/l, but not at 0.45 mgAl/l. Therefore, coagulant should be applied at a dose over the threshold in order to remove particles effectively, which seems to be between 1.8 and 10.0 mgAl/l. The length of treatment effect was determined by new inputs of nutrients and particles from external sources. Renewal of pond water by stream water caused recovery of algal growth in Lake Sukchon, and rainfall runoff and ground water pumping caused a return of turbid water in the campus pond. During treatment there was no sign of decreasing pH, or harmful effects on fish or mussels. Aluminum coagulant may be an economically feasible alternative for water quality improvement when the external control of pollutant sources is difficult. However, repeated application is required when there is a renewal of lake water or new input of nutrients.

Studies on the Releasing Effect of Cerium in Calcium Analysis by Atomic Absorption Spectrometry (원자흡수 분광법에 의한 칼슘분석에서 세륨의 해방효과에 관한 연구)

  • In the atomic absorption spectrometry using an air-acetylene flame, the interferences of Zr, Sn, Al, Sb, $SO_4^{2-},\;VO_3^-,\;and\;SiO_3^{2-}$, on the calcium absorption and the repression of this interference by the addition of cerium have been studied. The interference by Zr, Sn, Al, Sb, $SO_4^{2-},\;VO_3^-,\;and\;SiO_3^{2-}$ existed as the same concentration as calciurn ($3.0 {\times} 10^{-4}$M) in the sample solution are completely released by the addition of cerium twice as much as interfering cation. The interferences by the mixed interfering cations (Zr, Sn, Al and Sb) and by the mixed interfering anions ($SO_4^{2-},\;VO_3^-,\;and\;SiO_3^{2-}$) are larger than by each interfering cation and anion, and the releasing effect by cerium ($1.5 {\times} 10^{-2}$M) is effective up to some degree of the concentration of mixed interfering cations and of mixed interfering anions. The releasing effect by cerium to the mixed solution of interfering cations and anions is applicable to quite wide range of concentration.

  • Hexagonal sheet typed $\alpha$-Al$_2$O$_3$ nano particles were synthesized successfully at various conditions with the aluminum sulfate solution extracted from kaolin through the conventional and microwave assisted polyacrylamide (PAA) gel methods. Shorter gel time and higher yield were obtained in the microwave assisted PAA gel method, compared to conventional method. the size of nano particles was not changed by increasing the concentration of aluminum sulfate, but decreased with increasing the concentration of cross-linking agent in both the conventional and microwave samples. Above 0.01M concentration of cross-linking agent, the sizes of nano particles in the microwave samples were relatively larger than those in the conventional samples.

  • Effort of reducing wastes and their recycling is increasing in worldwide. Especially, extreme care for alkali recycling is required because of its environmental pollution and its corrosive characteristics. In order to manage alkali wastes effectively, it is necessary to make quality standards for recycling products from the alkali wastes because there are no quality specifications yet. In this study, we selected several recycling candidates from the alkali wastes based on the analysis of the most recent data of the various industrial sites. As a result, the recycling candidates from the alkali wastes are sodium hydroxide, aluminum sulfate, poly aluminum chloride. It is believed that the proper management system for waste products is required in governmental point of view and it propagates positively for resolving various environmental issues.

  • When suspended solids are removed by natural sedimentation, it is necessary to use mainly huge equipments and waste great cost. This is a problem that must be solved certainly as soon as possible. In this study, suspended solids of yellow soil water were rapidly removed by controlling pH and amounts of magnetic powder, organic and inorganic flocculants. In the case of the suspended solids of 0.3% yellow soil water, the most excellent turbidity was achieved at pH between 7 and 7.5.

Monitoring of Aluminium Phosphide Residues in Wheat and Wheat Flour (밀과 밀가루 중 알루미늄포스파이드 잔류량 모니터링)

  • GC-NPD analysis was performed on residues of aluminium phosphide in raw wheat and wheat products by trapping gaseous phosphine in the headspace of vessel. In Australian wheat, over 95% of samples were detected below 1 ppb, considered as safe level, whereas in American wheat, about 70% of 58 samples were detected within 1-10 ppb with 4 showing over 10 ppb. About 14-22% phosphine residues of raw wheat were retained after milling process. Wheat samples of same origin showed significant varying levels of phosphine.

  • A coagulation process for RO (reverse osmosis) membrane pretreatment system was an effective technology to remove colloidal and particulate matters. However, coagulant residuals from the pretreatment process may negatively affect RO membrane performance. The bench-scale coagulant exposure study was performed to investigate the effect of their residual on adsorbed mass which related to the membrane performance. Coagulant addition in this study ranged from 0 to 5mg/L ferric chloride, alum, and 2mg/L cationic polymer(poly-di-methyldiallyl ammonium chloride) as coagulant aids. This results showed that adsorbed mass is not significantly increased during short-time period, however, accumulated mass of coagulants on the membrane surface is significantly increased during long-time experimental period. The effect of pH on coagulants adsorption characteristics was significantly differed due to the electrostatic repulsive interactions between soluble coagulants and membrane surface charge. This data suggest that the RO membrane performance of drinking water treatment plant could be decreased by adsorption of residual coagulants when applied for the coagulant pretreatment process.

Addition of Coagulants for Phosphorus Removal from Combined Sewer Overflows (CSOs) (합류식 하수관거 월류수의 인제거를 위한 응집제 투여)

  • The coagulation of combined sewer overflows ($CSO_{s}$) was investigated by jar-testing with several commercial coagulants. $CSO_{s}$ sample showed different characteristics of coagulation from secondary wastewater with three common coagulants, aluminum sulfate, ferric chloride and polyaluminum chloride (PACl). Jar-tests showed that relatively wide range of optimal SS and T-P removal yielded with alum and ferric chloride compared with cationic polymers, though efficient SS and T-P removal can be achieved with all three coagulants. The decrease of pH was caused by the increase in dosage of aluminum sulfate, ferric chloride and PACl as coagulants. The pH was changed from 7.0 to 4.7 with the dosages of ferric chloride 25 mL/L. Aluminum sulfate revealed pH of 5.0 and PACl was highest pH of 5.4 after dosing of coagulants. The optimal pH to treat $CSO_{s}$ with aluminum sulfate were 6-6.5; with PACl 6-7, and with ferric chloride higher than 7.
