  • A new digital change detection algorithm, Euclidean Distance Analysis, was developed in an attempt to utilize the multi-band information in a selected band-comination, as an alternative to the conventional single-band analysis methods. To evaluate the relative performance of this new method, image differencing was applied. The better performance in change detection between the two algorithms investigated was provided by the Euclidean distance analysis. The new technique of Euclidean distance analysis holds promise for change detection, since it summarizes the multiple-band information on the cover-type changes and reduces the data dimensionality. It is suggested to further evaluate this new method, quantitatively, in the different environments. The use of different accuracy indices was also examined in the determining the optimal threshold level for each change image. As the standard measure for classification accuracy, the Kappa coefficient of agreement was used for evaluation.

Low Resolution Face Recognition with Photon-counting Linear Discriminant Analysis (포톤 카운팅 선형판별법을 이용한 저해상도 얼굴 영상 인식)

  • This paper discusses low resolution face recognition using the photon-counting linear discriminant analysis (LDA). The photon-counting LDA asymptotically realizes the Fisher criterion without dimensionality reduction since it does not suffer from the singularity problem of the fisher LDA. The linear discriminant function for optimal projection is determined in high dimensional space to classify unknown objects, thus, it is more efficient in dealing with low resolution facial images as well as conventional face distortions. The simulation results show that the proposed method is superior to Eigen face and Fisher face in terms of the accuracy and false alarm rates.

  • Bioequivalence trials based on higher order crossover designs have recently been conducted for highly variable drugs since the Ministry of Korea Food and Drug Safety (MFDS) added new regulations in 2013 to widen bioequivalence limits for highly variable drugs. However, a statistical discussion of higher order crossover designs have not been discussed yet. This research proposes the statistical inference of bioequivalence based on $3{\times}3$ crossover design and discusses it with the MFDS regulations. An illustrated example is also given.

A Review of the Characteristics of Early Apparatus and Methods for Hemoglobin Estimation (Hemoglobin 평가를 위한 초기 기구의 특성 및 측정법 고찰)

  • Since the late 19th century, scientific logic and techniques have been used extensively in the field of clinical pathology, including many laboratory tests utilizing various apparatuses and instruments. Among the techniques to measure hemoglobin, the visual color comparison method was most popular around this time; the specific gravity method and gasometric method were not widely adopted. Instruments that use the visual color comparison method include Gowers' hemoglobinometer, von Fleischl's hemoglobinometer, Dare's hemoglobinometer, Oliver's hemoglobinometer, Haden-Hausser hemoglobinometer, and Spencer Hb meter. Initially, the visual color comparison methods were used to diluate and hemolyze blood with distilled water and then to measure its color. Later, these methods were further developed to measure hemoglobin without dilution, and improved with the formation of acid or alkaline hematin ensuring the stability of color development. Hammerschlag's method as well as the Schmaltz and Peiper's methods were based on specific gravity measurement, but they were not widely used. The gasometric method used the Van Slyke gasometer, indirectly measuring the hemoglobin concentration. This method provides the most accurate results. This survey examined the characteristics and limitations of hemoglobinometers and methods used to measure hemoglobin from the late 19th century to the early-and mid-20th century. Moreover, this study aims to improve the understanding and applicability of the current methods and emerging technologies used in measuring hemoglobin. It is also expected that this investigation is the starting point to promote awareness of the need to organize historical data for a variety of historical relics of the diagnostic laboratory tests.

  • This study explores legislation process of Disability Discrimination Act in S. Korea focusing on social exclusion and participation through social action approach. I can find a thing in common in that both of disability and social exclusion are concerned with the relationship between majority and minority. Therefore we need to lay emphasis on the social model of disability to overcome social exclusion. When we explore the legislation process of Disability Discrimination Act, we recognize that the legislation is mainly due to a great deal of effort of the disabled, especially the Disability Discrimination Act Solidarity of Korea. So researchers need to focus on the social action approach to overcome social exclusion. In addition social workers have to analyze the macrosystem as well as microsystem to overcome the social exclusion of the disabled. Besides the course of macro practice should include the community organization skills focused on the social action approach.

Rapid bacterial identification using Raman spectroscopy (라만 분광법을 활용한 세균 검측 기술)

  • Raman microspectroscopy is a promising tool for microbial analysis at single cell level since it can rapidly measure the cell materials including lipids, nucleic acids, and proteins by measuring the inelastic scattering of a molecule irradiated by monochromatic lights. Using Raman spectra provides high specificity and sensitivity in classification of bacteria at the strain level. In addition, a Raman approach coupled with stabled isotope such as $^{13}C$ and $^2H$ is able to detect and quantify general metabolic activity at single cell level. After bacterial detection process by Raman microspectroscopy, interested unculturable cell sorting and single cell genomics can be accomplished by combination with optical tweezer and microfluidic devices. In this review, the characteristics and applications of Raman microspectroscopy were reviewed and summarized in order to provide a better understanding of microbial analysis using Raman spectroscopy.

  • Knowing the learner's image of a subject-related occupation is good data for determining the direction of a teacher's teaching and learning. Existing drawing image analysis tools have the limitation that it takes a long time to analyze images and drawings of a scientist's appearance. The semantic differential method is a widely used method to analyze images of specific objects. However, research using the semantic differential method has the limitation of failing to reflect terms or factors that change over time by using the adjective pairs used in the initial study as they were in accordance with the research content. In this study, we use the semantic differential method to develop a tool to measure middle school students' scientist image and apply it to middle school students to discuss educational implications regarding the usefulness of measuring scientist image.

  • 표본조사에서 발생되는 무응답에 대한 대체법은 매우 다양하게 연구 되고 있다. 특히 모형을 기반으로 하는 회귀 대체법은 매우 활용도가 높다. 이 때 일반적으로 종속변수가 결측값의 변수가 되며 독립변수는 주어지게 된다. 주어지 주어진 종속변수와 독립변수의 값을 이용하여 모델을 설정하고 그에 따라 결측값을 예측하여 대체하게 된다. 이 때 예측값 즉 결측값을 구하는 과정에서 독립변수 값 자체에도 결측값이 생기게 된다는 것이다. 이때 여러 가지 방법으로 독립변수의 결측값을 대체하고 모형을 활용할 수 있다. 그러나 이 연구에서는 독립변수들을 같은 특성끼리 그룹화 시키는 요인분석(factor analysis)을 이용하여 독립변수의 결측값에따른 예측된 결측값의 변동을 최소화 하고자했다.

  • 삼중수소는 물분자중 수소원소의 동위원소로서 물의 유동연구에 가장 이상적인 추적자로서 활용된다. 이러한 삼중수소 분석결과는 지표수 지하수 상관관계 해석 및 지하수의 연대측정등 수문학 연구의 중요한 자료로 활용되고 있다. 지하수 연구에 필요한 삼중수소의 측정법을 확립코자 극저준위 액체섬광계수기를 도입하였으며 NIST 표준시료를 사용하여 실험방법을 확립하였다. 삼중수소의 측정효율은 25.7 % 였으며, 전기분해법을 사용하지 않고 단순 분리법만을 사용하였을 경우 10 ml의 측정 시료와 섬광액으로 Ultima-Gold LLT를 사용하여 0.18 Bq(1.5 TU)의 검출한계를 얻었다.
