  • Objective : The aim of this study was to compare the sociodemographic characteristics, depression, quality of life, and unmet medical need in elders with and without limitation of activity by aging or dementia. Method : The data were used for raw data of seventh national health and nutrition examination survey (2016). We compared sociodemographic characteristics, depression, quality of life, and unmet medical needs between elders with limitation of activity by aging or dementia (n = 32) and elders without limitation of activity (n = 1201). Result : Elders with limitation of activity were significantly older than elders without limitation of activity (p<.001), income was lower (p<.05) and married status had more bereavement (p<.001). The elders with limitation of activity had higher depression (p<.001) and lower quality of life (p<.001) than elders without limitation of activity. Unmet medical need was greater than elders without limitation of activity (p<.001). Conclusion : Elders with limitation of activity showed that they did not receive enough medical services than elders without limitation of activity. These results suggest that the welfare system for the health care of population with aging or dementia needs to be improved.

  • This study was to identify the prevalence rate of the limitation of activity, the reasons for activity limitation, association with activity limitation and general characteristics among older adults in Korea's population. Data were extracted from the $7^{th}$ Korea National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey. The number of participants were 1,578 older adults who aged 65 years over. SPSS program (version 18.0) was used for analyzing on frequency, Chi-square test, and logistic regression analysis of the data. The total prevalence rate of activity limitation among Korea's population was 19.6% in 2016. The prevalence rate of the reasons for activity limitation in Korea was highest for neck and back problems(19.8%), followed by arthritis and rheumatism(17.1%). The prevalence rate of activity limitation was statistically significant associated with age and education level, respectively. In conclusion, Age, educational level, and musculoskeletal diseases such as problems related to back and neck, arthritis and rheumatism could be significant risk factors for activity limitations in older adults who aged 65 years over. These findings could be useful as evidence-based data for relieving the prevalence rate of activity limitation and the prevention and management of activity limitations in Korea population.

  • This study was conducted to identify the mental health and quality of life of cardiovascular disease patients by their activities restriction through the second analysis of the 7th KNHANES collected from 2016 to 2018. The subjects of this study were 521 adults with angina or myocardial infarction who had no missing variables among 24,269 subjects. The difference between mental health and quality of life according to the activity restriction was analyzed by Chi-square method and the effect of mental health and quality of life by activity restriction by Logistic regression method using the SAS 9.4 version. The results of the analysis showed that the stress level, the depression for the last two weeks and suicide thought level was high when there was activity restriction, which had a significant effect on mental health. Mobility, selfcare and usual activities were disrupted, and pain/inconvenience and anxiety/depression increased when there was activity restriction, which also showed a significant effect on quality of life. Therefore, it is suggested that the development and operation of effective physical activity promotion program to minimize activity restriction is necessary to improve mental health and quality of life of cardiovascular patients.

  • This study was attempted in order to offer basic data for enhancing oral health by surveying the activity limitation realities caused by oral disease in university students and then by analyzing its relevant factors. As a result of research, university students' activity limitation experience rate accounted for 24.1%. The average number of activity limitation days stood at 0.44 day. Matters related to university students' activity limitation included housing type as for socio-demographic characteristics, and busyness in daily life, difficulty for supplying school expenses, temporal burden given using dental treatment, and difficulty for transportation given using dental treatment as for individual characteristics. In case of feeling difficulty for raising school expenses, the possibility was indicated to be high in activity limitation experience, illness experience, experience of having trouble in performing schoolwork, and schoolwork loss experience. Also, in case of feeling difficulty for transportation given using dental treatment, the possibility was indicated to be high in experiencing a trouble in performing schoolwork and a loss of schoolwork. Accordingly, a national interest and support are earnestly demanded in order to establish the more systematized oral health level and to increase oral health promotion.

  • Objective: This study assessed whether both physical disability and perceived dependence relate to depression or whether perceived dependence in personal care activities, household activities, community mobility and recreational activities is an intermediate step in the relationship between physical disability and depressive symptoms. Methods: Data come from a cross-sectional survey of 209 women, aged 55 or older, with osteoarthritis (OA). Mediation analyses occurred in four step and included logistic regression analyses as outlined by Baron & Kenny. Results: The results from step 1 showed that greater difficulty with each domain of physical disabilities was significantly related to greater perceived dependence. In step 2, greater perceived dependence was significantly associated with greater depressive symptoms in all domains. Step 3 analyses showed that greater physical disabilities in each domain were significantly associated with depression. The final step testing mediation indicated that personal care activities, household activities and community mobility were fully mediated by perceived dependence. That was, once dependence was taken into account, the relationship between physical disabilities and depression was no longer significant. Partial mediation was found for dependence and recreational activity limitations. Conclusion: It is important to take into account the experience of perceived dependence as a mediator in understanding the relationship between disability and depression in the domains of personal care, household, and community mobility. To conclude, these findings point to the importance of taking into account an individual's reaction to their disability rather than just focusing on the severity of disability.

  • This study was performed to search for correlation between activity limitation level and participation restriction of children with cerebral palsy by investigating the activity limitation level through the use of the GMFCS E&R and the MACS and by figuring out participation restriction level through questionnaire survey. This study was performed, from May 1, 2010 to August 31, 2010, on 152 children with cerebral palsy ranging from 4 to 12 years, who are receiving rehabilitation therapy in the hospitals and community clinics in Busan and Gyeongnam province. The levels of activity limitation were assessed by using GMFCS E&R and MACS, and a questionnaire survey was conducted for participation restriction of the participating children. Spearman rank correlation was used for correlation analysis with the statistical software, SPSS 12.0. Majority of the children scored level 5 in both GMFCS E&R and MACS which is high frequency of activity limitation levels. Children in these levels also showed severe or complete participation restriction for mobility, education, and social relations. The analysis showed a significantly positive correlation between activity limitation level and participation restriction. Therefore this study may be useful in assessing the functional movement component of participation in children with cerebral palsy and developing the intervention plan for participation.
