Numerical Study on the Design Safety of $9\%$ Nickel Based Inner Tank Bottom Plate in Terms of Hydrostatic Pressure (유체정압을 고려한 $9\%$ 니켈강재 내부탱크 바닥판의 설계 안정성에 관한 수치적 연구)

  • This paper presents the stress and deformation characteristics of $9\%$ nickel based inner tank bottom plate in full containment LNG storage tank. When a . maximum hydrostatic pressure applies the bottom plate of inner tank, the maximum = f stress and displacement distributions of the bottom plate have been analyzed as ' functions of inclined angle of the bottom plate, and the thickness and length of the annular plate between the shell plate and bottom one. The calculated results indicate that the taper of the bottom plate is recommended by 100${\~}$200 : 1 for $140,000m^3$ storage capacity of the inner tank. The results recommend that the thickness of the annular plate is around 20mm and the length is greater than 3m for a maximum hydrostatic pressure of $140,000m^3$ tank capacity.

The Fantastic and Labyrinth Motif in Pan's Labyrinth (<판의 미로>에 나타난 환상성과 미궁의 모티프)

  • The purpose of this paper is to elucidate the characteristics that make Guillermo del Toro's film Pan's Labyrinth (2006) a fantasy film, and the meaning and function of the labyrinth motifs closely related to it. Tzvetan Todorov defined the 'fantastic' as the hesitation between natural and supernatural interpretations in the face of supernatural events that invade reality. In Pan's Labyrinth, the fantastic continues to be seen, because the film does not allow the hesitation to disappear; thus, the fantastic does not enter the 'uncanny' genre or 'marvelous' genre, and because it keeps its fantastic state. In this case, the labyrinth symbolizes art as a passage into the fantastic world and a space that represents it. Rosemary Jackson saw the fantasy as a "literature of desire to compensate for a lack resulting from cultural constraints" and thus repeatedly dealing with unconscious materials. Del Toro's film shows the character of the fantastic as an expression of desire by allowing 'family romance' to take place in the fantastic world. In this case, the labyrinth symbolizes the mind as a place of desire. Kathryn Hume defined fantasy as a reaction to reality, like mimesis, and 'departure from consensus reality.' The film, operating in a 'vision' genre, satisfies its definition by allowing the fantastic world to illuminate the reality world through 'contrastive' technique, and brings out the fantastic it has. In this case, the labyrinth symbolizes the world as a mirror of the world of reality. Thus, Pan's Labyrinth is representative of fantastic film in that the fantastic functions very effectively, and the labyrinth appearing in this film can be evaluated as a motif that is full of meaning by symbolizing all three elements of art, world and mind. The significance of this paper is to shed light on how a motif works in a particular genre through the above considerations.

An Experimental Study on the Boioling Heat Transfer Characteristics of an Annular Fin (환상휜의 비등열전달 특성에 관한 연구)

  • 본 연구는 열에너지 교환을 목적으로 이용되는 환상휜의 비등열전달에서 간섭판의 영향을 고찰한 실험적인 연구이다. 휜과 인접한 간섭판의 간격과, 휜 높이의 변화에 따라 비등열전달에 미치는 영향을 구했다. 휜 간격은 단독 환상휜에 간섭판을 0.05mm에서 2mm 가지 6가지 종류, 그리고 휜 높이는 3 mm , 8mm, 13 mm 의 3 종류로 변화시켰다. 실험결과 휜 높이가 제일 큰 13 mm 간섭판 간격이 0.25mm 로 비교적 좁은 간격임에도, 핵비등영역에서는 열전달 촉진효과가있었다. 그러나 간섭판의 간격이 0.05mm 로 더좁아지면 저열류속 영역에서는 휜 간격 내에 유체가 유입이 어려워 휜 선단만에서의 비등열전달과 일치한다. 이러한 경향은 휜 높이가 작아져도 비슷하다. 또한 휜과 간섭판의 간격이 0.25mm이상이면 간섭판의 영향이 적어, 확대 전열면으로서 전열 촉진효과를 얻을 수 있다.

  • 환형판은 항공기, 선박, 자동차, 섬유기계 등에서 널리 사용되고 있다. 최근에는 각종기계 또는 구조물을 경량화하고 크기를 줄이기 위하여, 두께가 변화하는 환형판을 기계요소설계에 많이 응용하고 있다. 본 논문에서는 회전관성과 전단변형을 고려하여 두께가 변화($H=h_0(1-{\alpha}x^n)$, n=1, 2, 3, 4)하는 환형판의 동적 모델링을 하였다.

  • This paper presents von Mises stress, deformation, and rotating distortion moment characteristics of inner tank bottom plate as a function of a cryogenic temperature difference along the radial distance from the center area to the corner one. The calculated results show that the filling level of LNG at the beginning of the cool-down process is very important for the design safety analysis of the inner tank. Obviously the thermal loading by a temperature difference between the LNG vapor gas of $-80^{\circ}C$ and a LNG temperature of $-162^{\circ}C$ affects to the thermal related characteristics of the bottom plates and annular one. From the computed results, the temperature difference by a vapor gas and liquid of LNG may lead to the thermal instability of the bottom plate. This phenomenon may cause the system failure of an inner tank.

  • To discriminate features of H. assulta and H. armigera, this study was done in 1983. There is 7 spots on the forewing of H. armigera but not on that of H assulta. Ratios of length and width of valves were 5.6 on H. assulta and 4.3 on H. armigera. Numbers of setae on hindtibia of H. assulta and H. armigera were 8.5, 11.4, respectively.

Detection of a Crack on a Plate by IDT Type Lamb Wave Sensors (IDT형 Lamb 파 센서에 의한 판상의 균열 검출)

  • In this paper, an Inter-Digital Transducer (IDT) type Lamb wave sensor is proposed to estimate the geometry and number of cracks on a plate structure, and its validity is checked through experiments. This IDT type sensor is more readily controllable than conventional patch type piezoelectric sensors to modify its operation frequency and directionality by altering its finger patterns. In this work, omni-directional annular IDT and highly directional rectangular IDT sensors are designed and fabricated. The IDT sensors are used to diagnose the length, number and orientation of cracks on an aluminum plate by measuring the amplitude and time of flight of Lamb waves. The results are analyzed to discuss the efficacy of the IDT sensors.

Analysis and Prediction of Highway Bridge Deck Slab Deterioration (고속도로 교량 바닥판 열화분석 및 추정)

  • This study established key factors causing deck slab deterioration based on GPR database of 747 highway bridges, and predicted deck slab damage rates with respect to bridge service life. To minimize the influence of bridge service life on deck slab deterioration, the deck slab damage rate database was corrected based on a linear regression model of bridge service life vs. deck slab damage rate. The corrected deck slab damage rates were analyzed to determine correlation considering the number of snowy days, the amount of snowfalls, the number of freeze-thaw days, average winter temperature, altitude, the amount of deicing chemicals and equivalent traffic volume, and then both the number of freeze-thaw days and the amount of deicing chemicals were determined to be key factors causing deck slab deterioration. The complex deterioration considering both key factors was represented deck slab damage rate charts, and the average deck slab life was derived. The results of this study will be used as a guideline for highway bridge maintenance to identify the progress of deck slab deterioration for a given bridge and predict the time required deck slab rehabilitation.

Improvisation and Fantasy: Beauvais Grotesque Tapestry (즉흥과 환상: 보베 제작소의 《그로테스크》 태피스트리)

  • This paper is to find the theme and meaning of the Beauvais Grotesque tapestry considered a conundrum. The three works are chosen from Beauvais Grotesque consisting of six tapestries, which are The Offering to Pan, The Musician and Dancers, The Camel in the J. Paul Getty Museum. I analyzed these works by dividing them into grotesque ornaments, chinoiserie motifs, and scenography. The Offering to Pan shows the influence of Raphael's Grotesque tapestry, but Beauvais work followed the design of Jean Berain's Grotesque with arabesque. In The Musician and Dancers, chinese ceramics, textiles, and Chinese people in edge were noted. Especially, the Chinese with yellow skin in the border reveals the European gaze on China at that time. In the 18th century, Chinoiserie was prevalent through stage designs rather than books. The Camel, playing Brighella, makes it clear that this tapestry is a stage of Comedia dell'arte. The characteristic of Comedia is a mixture of genres such as music and dance, with no scripting 'improvisation.' Features of Comedia are 'improvisation' without a script and a mixture of genres such as music and dance. Thus, the Grotesque tapestry transfers the stage of the Comedia into threads woven. In addition, the horizontal stage decoration with the disappearance of the perspective vanishing point is related to the era of regent of Philippe d'Orl?ans (1674-1723). Above all, the grotesque, Chinoiserie, and scenography are all fantasies separated from reality. Therefore, the Beauvais Grotesque tapestry represents of 'improvisation' and 'fantasy' in which there is no narrative theme or meaning, as if the script of Comedia did not exist.
