  • A smart port refers to a port built based on digital technologies such as IoT, big data, AI, and block chain, and refers to a port that minimizes waste of time, space and resources as the only means of survival of the port. Sustainability refers to 'environmental, economic, and social characteristics that enable people to continue to use the environment, ecosystem, or publicly used resources'. It contains the meaning of 'future sustainability' that can be maintained in the future. In the face of the 4th industrial revolution, interest and realization of smart port construction and sustainability are actively progressing around the world. In this study, core indicators of the ESG (Enviornment, Social, Governance) area, which are key elements of sustainable smart ports, were developed,

  • The purpose of this study is to develop a content system for the home economics curriculum that integrates Education for Sustainable Development(ESD) and provides basic material for ESD implementation in schools. In view of this, the content elements of the revised home economics curriculum for 2022 were analyzed, and a content system for the home economics curriculum, linked to ESD, was proposed based on the implications drawn from the analysis. The results are as follows. First, the three components of competencies, namely knowledge, values, and skills, were organized equally as a whole. However, the association between the content elements and key competencies in sustainability was found to be insufficient. Consequently, it is proposed that key competencies in sustainability should be cultivated integrally. Second, no content element was identified that can promote social participation. Therefore, it is proposed that solutions should be dealt with at the level of social participation. Third, the connection with Sustainable Development Goals(SDGs) was observed in only six of the 28 content elements. Wherever relevant, it is proposed to incorporate key issues related to SDGs. Fourth, the analysis confirmed that only the environmental dimension of sustainable development was considered. Therefore, it is proposed to pursue coexistence based on temporal and spatial relationship and consider the dimensions of environment, society, and economy in an integrated manner.

  • In this paper, we have investigated how various companies have tackled the concept of materiality, and reviewed the effect of materiality determination on business strategy and decision making in sustainability reporting. To achieve this, we gather and utilize various guidelines and company's practice cases. Results from the analyses of four case studies provide that most companies conducted a detailed systematic materiality analysis as strategic planning process but held differing approaches. Therefore, successful methodology to determine materiality will need to address common issues and challenges, and set up a new concept in the context of sustainability reporting.

  • The application contents, process, and its limitations are discussed for the setting of Korean legal guides & criteria for water cycle and ecological condition in development project of land use by thorough comparison and examination of prerequisites and credits of water cycle and soil+vegetation by USA's SITES (Sustainable Sites Initiative). In the case of SITES, due to the implementation procedure operated as a non-governmental independent assessment system by Green Business Certification, Inc, the natural condition of water cycle and soil-vegetation items-the key element of ecosystem services can be quantitatively assessed, well along with its legal and institutional guidelines and regulations. On the other hand, in the case of Korea, as a part of the national certification procedure for green building, the ecological area ratio system still have very limited role as an only amenity resource in the creation of artificial green spaces and insufficiency of management system for rain water. In conclusion, it was understood as an urgent situation in necessary for prompt establishment of site's sustainability certification system at the national level, based on management of water circulation and natural soil & vegetation in developed area with consideration of various land uses and types of development projects.

  • This study aims to examine the effect of housing characteristics of older adults on the willingness to continue living in local communities in order to realize the Aging in place of the elderly in Korea. Considering that the health status of the elderly is important for aging in place, both healthy and unhealthy cases were analyzed in the analyses. Housing characteristics include home ownership, housing cost burden, housing convenience, housing satisfaction, and residential environment satisfaction. The study sample is 9,798 elderly people from the 2017 survey on the elderly. Key findings are as follows: First, while 6,704 older adults (68.4%) chose to continue living in the community, 3,094 (31.6%) of the elderly did not choose to live in the local community. Second, the elderly who chose to stay in the local community are likely to have more real estate assets and less burden of housing expenses than the elderly group who did not. Third, the results report that older adults with more real estate assets and lower the housing cost burden are likely to choose sustainable living in the local community. The findings suggest that the majority of the elderly actually preferred Aging in place. This study concludes with practice and policy implications for realizing aging in place considering the elderly's needs.

  • The purpose of this article is to measure sustainability of countries based on material flow approach by connecting fossil fuel vs. economy, and fossil fuel vs. environment, respectively. The focus of the article is to confirm where each country concentrates more between economic growth and environment. Even though most of countries exclaimed the growth harmonized between economy and environment, the empirical results proved that they had weight on economic growth over environment. Of three country groups, the sustainability in OECD countries was the lowest, whereas that of low income countries was the highest. It has been known that the main offenders of global warming are developing countries and backward countries, but emission of greenhouse gas per capita in OECD countries was higher and as a result, their sustainability was much lower than those of other countries. Accordingly, because the OECD countries have more responsibility for the emission of greenhouse gas, it is necessary that they have to bear a larger portion of emission reduction.

  • This study proposes a new model of tourism destination management based on the tourism management program using information and communication technology provided by LBS. The personalized tourist information service can enhance the satisfaction of tourists. Sustainability can be expanded through management based on the capacity of the tourism destination. Increased satisfaction leads to more diverse tourism activities. Various tourism activities increase the consumption expenditure, which satisfies the local tourism destination management purpose. The tourism destination management plan of the central and local governments is a comprehensive system in which detailed policy support plans are formulated from the perspective of the three requirements for sustainability-economic, socio-cultural, and environmental-and concerned parties are connected and resources are supported through detailed processes in which the sources of disparities in accessibility are identified and the roles are delegated at the national, community, and regional levels.

  • This study measured the environmental efficiency of 21 international airports based on sustainability reports issued by each airport for 2018. As many sectors in the industry paid attention to social and environmental responsibilities, airport operators comprise one of the leading sectors that streamlined their facilities to become increasingly sustainable and environmental. Nevertheless, studies on the environmental operations of airports are insufficient compared with studies on economic or operational efficiency. Therefore, the current study aims to determine any possible improvement in the environmental inefficiency of airports with the utilization of directional distance function (DDF) and to examine operational efficiency with the application of the data envelopment analysis (DEA). The majority of airports have operated their facilities efficiently, but not all have effectively managed pollutants generated by airports. Furthermore, many airports can still potentially reduce CO2 and water consumption. This study suggests several implementable environmental improvements to the aviation sector. Moreover, other industrial sectors may use the research as a benchmark for enhancing environmental efficiency.
