  • The purpose of this study was to investigate the causal relationship among job stress, teaching efficacy belief, and organizational commitment for early childhood teachers. Besides, the current study examined the mediating effect of teaching efficacy belief on the relationship between job stress and organizational commitment. The data were gathered through the questionnaires from 500 kindergarten and nursery teachers who are located in D metropolitan city. Among them, the total of 426 subjects were used for analysis from recovered 442. The results indicated that job stress was negatively correlated with teaching efficacy belief and organizational commitment for early childhood teachers. Teaching efficacy belief significantly had a positive relation with organizational commitment. Moreover, teaching efficacy belief turned out to have a partial mediating effect on the relationship between job stress and organizational commitment. This study has its significance in that it looked at the job stress as a predictor variable to explain the organizational commitment, the positive viewpoint by turning away from the early childhood teachers' burnout, and provided the potential for the environmental intervention by confirming the mediating effect of teaching efficacy belief.

  • The purpose of this study was to examine the job stress and job stressors of dental hygienists. The subjects in the study were 220 dental hygienists who worked in north Jeolla province. After a mail survey was conducted from July 24 through September 24, 2006, the responses from 180 dental hygienists(response rate 81.8%) were gathered, and 156 answer sheets were analyzed except 24 incomplete ones that couldn't be analyzable. The findings of the study were as follows: 1. As for the correlation of overall job stress to turnover intention, their entire stress was under the influence of unreasonable treatment (r = 0.382), conflicts as a professional(r = 0.285), tough working environments(r = 0.303), conflicts with colleagues(r = 0.233), and heavy workload (r = 0.262). Those who were more stressed were more willing to change their occupation, and their stress level made a statistically significant difference to that(p < 0.01). 2. A multiple regression analysis was carried out by selecting the job stressors and turnover intention as independent and dependent variables respectively to see how each of the stressors affected job stress. And unreasonable treatment(p < 0.001) was identified as what had the biggest impact on that, followed by conflicts as a professional(p < 0.05), and tough working environments (p < 0.05). The stressors made a 22.2% prediction of turnover intention.

  • Among various environmental stresses, humid stress lacks mechanisms and biochemical understanding compared to drought, low temperature, and high salt stresses. The aim of this study was to investigate enzyme activity of field crops under humidity stress. Results of this study could be used as basic data for understanding humidity stress and early diagnosis. Growth and enzyme activities of sesame, perilla, red beans, sorghum, and beans as major field crops in Korea when flooded were investigated. It was confirmed that growths of both shoots and roots were retarded. In plants, anaerobic fermentation occurred due to flooding stress, which increased the activity of alcohol dehydrogenase (ADH) compared to the control group. Increases of reactive oxygen species (ROS) were also observed. All flooded plants showed increased peroxidase (POD) activity and lipid peroxidation. Their dyeing strength was darker than that of the control group, even in 3,3'-diaminobenzidine (DAB) staining. Since enzyme activity changes in plants appear relatively faster than changes in phenotype at the ground level, they could be used as biomarkers for early diagnosis of humidity stress in crops.

  • This study is to investigate the effect of early childhood teachers' resilience and social support on job stress. The degree of resilience, social support, and job stress was measured for 250 teachers of early childhood education institutions located in City I, and the relationship and relative influence were analyzed. For data processing, correlation analysis and multiple regression analysis were performed using the SPSS 18.0 program. As a result, first, early childhood teachers' resilience and social support were measured at a slightly higher level than average, and job stress at a slightly lower level. Second, the resilience and social support of early childhood teachers had a positive relationship, and the resilience and social support had a negative correlation with job stress. Third, as a result of analyzing the relative influence of early childhood teachers' resilience and social support on job stress, 83% explained that organizational environmental factors, material support, and behavioral factors affect job stress. These results suggest that it is most important to provide resilience and social support that can affect the reduction of job stress of in-service teachers.

  • The differences of several kinds of physiological responses between Commelina communis (C$_3$ plant) and Sedum sarmentosum (CAM plant: Crassulacean Acid metabolism) when both plants were exposed to water stress for 3 weeks were investigated. In case of Commelina it was shown a clear loss of water to 12% in three weeks, but no changes were observed in Sedum. Total chlorophyll content was also reduced to 57% in Commelina but not clear changes of chlorophyll content in Sedum. were observed for three weeks. In chlorophyll fluorescence experiments Fv/Fm ratios were reduced to 19% in Commelina, but no changes were observed in Sedum. There were very sensitive responses according to the different KCl concentrations and the stomatal aperture of epidermal strips was 12.8 ${\mu}m$ at 200 mM KCl in Commelina, but less than 3 ${\mu}m$ was observed at the same KCl concentration in Sedum. In addition, there were no chloroplasts in guard cells of Sedum, but most plants had chloroplasts including Commelina. From the above results, the ability of water stress resistance in Sedum. could be come from slow physiological metabolism including growth and less loss of water through unique stomatal characteristics.
