A Comparative Analysis on Physico-Chemical Characteristics of MSW (Municipal Solid Waste) from Dwelling Site and Landfill Site - A Case Study of the Chungju City - (생활폐기물의 발생원과 최종 매립장에서 물리화학적 특성 비교 분석 - 충주시를 중심으로 -)

  • The comparative analysis on physico-chemical characteristics of municipal solid waste from dwelling site and landfill site were performed to provide the fundamental information of waste management in Chungju city. It was analysed and evaluated the bulk density, physical component, three major component, chemical component, and heating value of MSW. The physical components depended on the sampling site in dwelling site and landfill site. But, by the ultimate analysis, the chemical composition was almost similar to result for municipal solid waste from dwelling site and landfill site. Therefore, it is necessary to investigate the physical components according to sampling site for the MBT to introduce for combustible municipal solid waste pre-treatment, but it needs the chemical composition from landfill site to design the incinerator. The physical composition showed that the combustible and the noncombustible occupied 87.4% and 12.6% respectively. In case of three component analysis, the moisture, the combustible, and the ash were 27.6, 60.5, 11.9% respectively. The chemical composition through the element analysis were C (50.1%), H (6%), O (39.5%), N (1.9%), S (0.5%), and Cl (1.3%).

Application of an XRD-Pattern Calculation Method to Quantitative Analysis of Clay Minerals (X-선 회절도형 계산방법을 이용한 점토광물의 정량분석)

  • An XRD quantitative analytical method using calculated XRD patterns was discussed in this study, Deep-seabed sediments commonly contain smectite, illite, chlorite, and kaolinite, and XRD pattern of each clay mineral of appropriate chemical composition was simulated by using an XRD pattern calculation method. Theoretical peak intensities of specific reflections of four clay minerals (the 001 reflections of smectite and illite, the 004 reflection of chlorite, and the 002 reflection of kaolinite) were measured from calculated patterns, and MIF(mineral intensity factor)value of each phase was determined from the intensities of calculated patterns. The peak intensities obtaine from experimental XRD patterns of sediments were corrected using the MIF values so that the calibrated intensity values for the specimens are linearly proportional to the weight fraction of each phase, which is normalized to 100 wt%. The MIF method can provide accurate quantitaive results without the necessity of correcting the factors by the mass absorption coefficient of each phase. This method excludes the necessity of standard specimens having compositions that are similar to those of clay minerals in the sediment samples. Therefore, quantitaive analysis using XRD calculation method can be utilized for the specimens, for which the standard specimens are very difficult or impossible to obtain. this quantitative method can provide rapid, routine analysis results for a large number of samples which occur in similar geological environments.

Analysis of animal glue by pyrolysis/GC/MS (열분해/GC/MS에 의한 아교의 분석)

  • Animal glue is a traditional material that was used widely as an adhesive in cultural artifacts, such as Buddhist paintings, dancheong (traditional multicolored paintwork on wooden buildings), mother-of-pearl inlay, and so on. Spectroscopic methods, such as infrared spectroscopy, have been used for the analysis of animal glue. However, such methods do not yield sufficient information about the constituents of the glue. Because pyrolysis/GC/MS analysis is able to estimate the components of a material through the examination of its pyrolyzed products, it is useful for the analysis of polymeric material. In this study, pyrolysis/GC/MS analysis was used to determine the chemical composition of animal glue. The appropriate conditions for analyzing animal glue were established by examining pyrolysis temperature, quantity of the sample, and the repeatability of the method. Some products of pyrolysis were identified. We also analyzed commercial gelatin and animal glue using the established method and found almost no differences in chromatograms among the samples. The results will be used as supporting data to confirm the use of animal glue in cultural artifacts and to replace traditional animal glue by commercial gelatin.

A Study on Chemical Composition of Fine Particles in the Sungdong Area, Seoul, Korea (서울 성동구 지역 미세먼지의 화학적 조성에 관한 연구)

  • To investigate the chemical characteristics of PM$\_$2.5/ in Seoul, Korea, atmospheric particulate matters were collected using a PM$\_$10/ dichotomous sampler including PM$\_$10/ and PM$\_$2.5/ inlet during the period of October 2000 to September 2001. The Inductively Coupled Plasma-Mass Spectromety (ICP-MS), ion Chromatography (IC) methods were used to determine the concentration of both metal and ionic species. A statistical analysis was performed for the heavy metals data set using a principal component analysis (PCA) to derived important factors inherent in the interactions among the variables. The mean concentrations of ambient PM$\_$2.5/ and PM/sub10/ were 24.47 and 45.27 $\mu\textrm{g}$/㎥, respectively. PM$\_$2.5/ masses also showed temporal variations both yearly and seasonally. The ratios of PM$\_$2.5/PM$\_$10/ was 0.54, which similar to the value of 0.60 in North America. Soil-related chemical components (such as Al, Ca, Fe, Si, and Mn) were abundant in PM$\_$10/, while anthropogenic components (such as As, Cd, Cr, V, Zn and Pb) were abundant in PM2s. Total water soluble ions constituted 30∼50 % of PM$\_$2.5/ mass, and sulfate, nitrate and ammonium were main components in water soluble ions. Reactive farms of NH$_4$$\^$+/were considered as NH$_4$NO$_3$ and (NH$_4$)$_2$SO$_4$ during the sampling periods. In the results of PCA for PM$\_$2.5/, we identified three principal components. Major contribution to PM$\_$2.5/ seemed to be soil, oil combustion, unidentified source. Further study, the detailed interpretation of these data will need efforts in order to identify emission sources.

  • Active components of lacquer tree referred to as urushiol congeners, which are catechol derivatives with various alkyl or alkenyl substituents. The olefin side chains typically have one, two or three double bonds. In this study, the each congener's ratio analysis of extracts from korean lacquer tree are compared to the one from other asian lacquer tree. Extraction was performed using liquid-liquid extraction (LLE) method with soxhlet system from tree's bark and sap. Extracts were analyzed by reverse phase liquid chromatography and on-line electro spray ionization mass spectrometry (LC-MS/MS).

Simultaneous Analysis of Cold Medicine Component by High-Performance Liquid Chromatography(HPLC) (고성능 액체크로마토그래피(HPLC)를 이용한 Cold Medicine 성분의 동시 분석)

  • In this study, for the purpose of standardized quality control of a cold medicine, we simultaneous analyzed four main chemical components of a cold medicine: acetaminophen, caffeine, methyl paraben, and propyl paraben. The sample was subjected to quantitative analysis using high performance liquid chromatography (HPLC), after pretreatment of four components. The experiment was carried out by using Isocratic elution at wavelength of 270nm. Acetonitrile and water (H2O) were used as a mobile phase at a flow rate of 1.0mL/min in a commercial C18 reversed-phase column. A volume of 10uL cold medicine were injected into the column with column oven temperature at 35℃. As a result of the experiment, the values of Resolution were 4.983, 1.596, 5.519, and 1.678 respectively-well over Rs >1.5, which indicates that the separation of four components were efficient. In addition, value of symmetry factor of the components was 1.056, 1.069, 1.032, and 1.133 respectively, to show its symmetrical stability. The calibration curve of all four components exhibits good linearity with R2 >0.9995 to 0.9999. Furthermore, the limit of detection(LOD) were between 0.0118 to 1.5973 mg/mL, while the limit of quantification (LOQ) were between 0.0353 to 4.7919 ㎍/mL with the recovery rate of 79.6% ~ 120.5%. The results of this study showed an efficient quality evaluation of a simultaneous analysis method for cold medicine components.

Chemical Constituent Variabilities of the Green Tea Leaves by Harvest Periods (채취시기별 녹차 생잎(生葉)의 성분 변화)

  • This study was carried out to investigate the properties of soils in the sampling green tea farms and the chemical constituents of the green tea leaves at the 3 harvest stages (Ujeon ${\rightarrow}$ Sejag ${\rightarrow}$ Jungjag). The results as follows; The properties of the soils were sandy loam, loam, well drained and fertile-rich in phosphoric acids in general. The contents of chlorophyll, tannin, vitamin-c and total catechin were increased as harvest periods getting late but the contents of total nitrogen, free amino acids, theanine, caffeine were decreased on the reverse. The inorganic constituents Mg, Ca and Mn were increased as harvest periods getting late but the Na, K, B contents were decreased on the reverse. The contents of the total nitrogen, chlorophyll, total free amino acid, theanine, caffeine and total catechin and Na, Mg, Ca, B and Se were insignificant differences between Ujeon and Sejag.

  • 인류의 생산 및 생활 활동에 의해 환경에 미치는 영향은 광범위하고 복잡하다. 따라서 그 실태를 규명하여 그 기구를 해석하기 위해서는 자연과학 전반에 걸친 전문분야의 연구성과를 종합적으로 해석하지 않으면 안된다. 그러나 무엇보다도 그 기초적인 자료를 제공할 수 있는 것은 분석기술이므로, 환경오염의 실태를 알려면 분석기술의 도움없이는 어렵다. 지금까지 환경오염성분의 정량법은 화학분석법으로부터 각종 분광법을 사용한 자동측정법까지 여러 방법이 이용되고 있다. 본 연구에서는 대기오염성분에 대하여 종전의 분석법보다 한층 신속 간편하고 실용화할 수 있는 새로운 분석법을 개발하였다. 여기서는 지면관계로 그 중 몇 가지를 간략하게 그 개요를 소개한다.

발광성 미생물을 이용한 유해 농약 성분의 독성 분석 및 식품 내 잔류 농약 성분의 추출법 연구

  • 최근, 무분별한 농약사용으로 인해 조리 후에도 잔류하는 농약성분의 독성이 문제시 되고 있어 인체 내로의 섭취 전에 독성 유무와 그 정도를 확인할 수 있는 방법 개발을 위한 연구가 활발히 진행되고 있다. 본 연구에서는 채소류, 곡류, 과일류 등에 빈번히 사용되는 농약성분의 독성 확인과 함께 이들 식품 내에 잔류하는 농약성분의 검출을 위한 방법을 연구하였으며, 이들의 독성 유무를 유전자 재조합된 5종의 발광성 미생물을 이용하여 확인하였다. 또한 이들 농약류가 식품 내에 잔류하여 발생하는 독성을 분석하기 위해 식품내 잔류하는 농약 성분의 추출에 필요한 효율적인 추출 용매를 제작하였으며, 농약성분의 화학적 성질에 따라 추출 방법을 두 단계로 분리하여 추출률을 향상시켰다. 뿐만 아니라, 식품류의 특성에 적합하게 식품별로 특정한 추출방법을 연구하였으며, 추출된 농약 성분의 독성 및 안정성 역시 발광성 박테리아를 이용하여 확인하여, 전체적인 추출방법의 효율을 진단하였다.

  • 퇴적암의 풍화특성을 파악하기 위해서는 풍화과정을 지배하는 암석의 광물 조성과 화학성분에 대한 연구가 필요하다. 본 논문에서는 풍화정도에 따른 퇴적암의 특성을 고찰하기 위해서 대구지역에 분포하고 있는 퇴적암을 채취하여 화학 및 광물성분 분석과 시간경과에 따른 물리 및 역학특성 시험을 실시하였다. 퇴적암에 대한 풍화판정법은 시험결과 Parker의 풍화지수식이 잘 일치하였고 모암에 함유된 $Al_2$O$_3$, CaO, $Na_2$O, $K_2$O, MgO등의 화학성분과 조장석(Albite, Ab), 백운모(Muscovite, Ms), 마그네타이트(Magenetite, Mt)등의 광물성분이 풍화와 밀접한 관계가 있었으며, 또한 암석의 풍화정도와 공학적 성질에 대한 상관관계식을 제안하였다.
