  • Copper thin films have been prepared by a metal organic chemical vapor deposition (MOCVD) technology on polyimide and TiN substrates. The Cu-MOCVD technology has advantages of the high deposition rate and the good step coverage compared with the conventional physical vapor deposition (PVD) technology in several industrial applications. The Cu films have been deposited with varying the experimental conditions of substrate temperatures and copper source vapor pressures. The films were annealed in a vacuum condition after the deposition, and the annealing effect on the electrical properties of the films was measured. The crystallinity and the microstructures of the films were observed by scanning electron microscopy (SEM), and the electrical resistivity was measured by 4-point probe. In the case of the Cu deposition on TiN substrate, the best electrical property of the films was measured for the samples prepared at 18$0^{\circ}C$. Very high deposition rate of the Cu film up to 250 nm/min was obtained on the polyimide substrate when the mixture of liquid and vapour precursor was used.

  • The effect of N-Nitrosodimethylamine(NDMA) on the glycoconjugates of rat lingual salivary gland was examined by prelectin histochemical methods. Sprague-Dawley rats weighing about 250-300g were divided into control and experimental groups. Each rat of experimental groups was administrated NDMA(17mg/kg) orally and sacrificed in 3, 6, 12, 24, 48, 72, 96 and 120 hours after NDMA administration. The regional differences and change of glycoco-njugates were elucidated by prelectin histochemical methods, such as periodic acid Schiff's(PAS) reaction, alcian blue (AB) pH 2.5, AB pH 0.4, AB pH 2.5-PAS, aldehyde fuchsin(AF) pH 1.7-AB pH 2.5 and high iron diamine(HID)-AB pH 2.5 staining. The major morphological changes in the von Ebner’s gland of NDMA administrated groups were withering and des-truction of serous acini, diminution and disappearance of cytoplasmic granules and vacuolation in cytoplasm of serous cells, and mucinous changes of duct epithelial cells. These changes were noted in NDMA administrated groups for 12 to 72 hours. In the lingual mucous gland of NDMA administrated groups, the major morphological changes were enlargement, fusion and destruction of mucous acini, loss of cytoplasmic granules and vacuolated generation in cytop-lasm of mucous cells, and mucinous change of duct epithelial cells. These changes were severe in NDMA administra-ted groups for 12 to 72 hours. In NDMA administrated groups of lingual von Ebner's gland for 12 and 72 hours, the neutral glycoconjugates be-come diminished remarkably compared to the control group. The decreased amount of neutral glycoconjugates tended to be gradually recovered from 96 hours group. The acidic glycoconjugates which were not detected in control group were found in a few serous cells of these gland of NDMA administrated groups for 6 to 48 hours and 120 ho-urs. The remarkable decrease of neutral and acidic glycoconjugates was observed in the lingual mucous glands 3, 24 and 48 hours after NDMA administration, and the striking decrease of acidic glycoconjugates was found in 72 hours groups. Among acidic glycoconjugates, sulfated glycoconjugates tended to decrease in NDMA administrated groups for 72 hours, while sialic glycoconjugates were increased in NDMA administrated groups for 3, 12 and 48 hours.

  • The causes of accidents occurring in chemical plants vary, but 96% of industrial accidents occurring worldwide are caused by workers' unsafe behavior. The International Labour Organization (ILO) has announced 20 elements of workers' anxiety-warning behaviors that occur on multiple occasions at industrial sites in order to warn them of the risk of accidents caused by workers' anxiety-driven behavior, and to prevent industrial accidents, workers' anxiety-driven behavior should be controlled under stress In this study, major types of unsafe behavior were analyzed on the basis of information on the accident investigation history of domestic workspaces in order to find out how workers can manage their unsafe behavior. Based on the results of the analysis of the major anxiety war behavior, the root cause of causing anxiety war behavior was analyzed using the Swiss Cheese Model, and each root cause management method was proposed.

  • The rates of overall mass transfer of n-butyl acetate in the alkaline hydrolysis of n-butyl acetate were measured by using a mechanically agitated vessel in order to get the relationship between the mass transfer rates and experimental variables. The interfacial area between liquid-liquid heterogeneous phases could be obtained by comparing the theoretical values of reaction enhancement factor from an approximated solution of a diffusion equation based on the film theory with the experimental data.

  • Oxygen-evolution reaction (OER) in alkaline media has been considered as a key process for various energy applications. Many types of catalysts have been developed to reduce high overpotential in OER, such as metal alloys, metal oxides, perovskite, or spinel. Nickel oxide (NiO) has high potential to increase OER activity according to volcano plots. The exact mechanisms for OER has not been discovered, but defects such as cation or anion vacancy typically act as an active site for diverse electrochemical reactions. In this study, nitrogen was doped into NiO by using ethylenediamine for formation of Ni vacancy, and the effects of N doping on OER activity and stability was studied.

  • In this study, a new concept for simulating a physical damage of tunnel shotcrete lining due to a long-term chemical deterioration has been proposed. It is known that the damage takes place mainly by internal cracks, reduction of stiffness and strength, which results mainly from volume expansion of the lining and corrosion of cement materials, respectively. This damage mechanism of shotcrete lining appears similar in most kinds of chemical reactions in tunnels. Therefore, the mechanical deterioration mechanism induced by a series of chemical reactions was generalized in this study and mathematically formulated in the framework of thermodynamics. The numerical model was implemented to a 3D finite element code, which can be used to simulate behaviour of tunnel structures undergoing external loads as well as chemical deterioration in time. A number of illustrative examples were given to show a feasibility of the model in tunnel designs.

  • Ethyl glucuronide (EtG) and ethyl sulfate (EtS), which are ethanol metabolites, are direct indicators of ethanol intake; they have been studied in a variety of biological samples in forensic science. It is necessary to analyze ethanol metabolites to determine whether the ethanol detected in autopsy cases was due to alcohol consumption before death or due to the ethanol produced from post-mortem decay. In general, EtG and EtS are detected in the blood together with ethanol; however, it may be difficult to secure blood depending on the extent of decay. Therefore, the aforementioned method should be replaced by detecting the ethanol metabolites using tissue biological samples. In this study, we determined the optimal experimental conditions for detecting EtG and EtS from spleen samples using Liquid Chromatography - Tandem Mass Spectrometry (LC-MS/MS). Herein, the test method was validated, and an analysis method was applied to the actual autopsy cases.

  • This study was performed to develop the dispersion modeling methodology for quantitative prediction of the hazard distance or toxic buffer distance by comparing 10-min average, 30-min average, and 1-hr average maximum ground-level concentration with $Cl_2$ regultaion concentration, IDLH and ERPG-3 concentration for hazardous toxic gas, $Cl_2$ releases from the storage tank of the chemical plant facilities. For this dispersion modeling, the source term model, dispersion model, meteorological and topographical data are incorporated into the SuperChems model, and then the effects of the atmospheric stability, wind speed, and surface roughness length changes on the maxum ground-level concentration were estimated.

  • New synthesis and electroanthennogram (EAG) responses of the pheromones of the diamond back moth Plutella xylostella L. are described. Lithium dianion of propargyl alcohol was alkylated with 1-bromononane to give 2-dodecyn-1-ol, which was converted to 11-dodecyn-1-ol by acetylene-zipper reaction. Dianion of 11-dodecyn-1-ol was alkylated with 1-bromobutane to provide 11-hexadecyn-1-ol, which was in turn reduced over Pd/BaSO4 to afford (Z)-11-hexadecen-1-ol (3). (Z)-11-Hexadecen-1-ol was oxidized and acetylated to (Z)-11-hexadecen-1-al (1) and (Z)-11-hexadecen-1-yl acetate (2), respectively. The electroantennogram (EAG) responses of the diamond back moth to the pheromone compouds thus synthesized were measured.

  • Metachromatic behavior of methylene blue (MB) in solutions of aqueous sodium dodecyl sulfate (SDS), chondroitin sulfate and L-${\alpha}$-lecithin vesicle at $18~52^{\circ}$C has been studied by absorption spectroscopy. MB was clustered in the matrix of the vesicle with high concentration of L-${\alpha}$-lecithin. The metachromasy of MB was found to be independent of phase transition temperature of vesicles. These results suggest that the dyes were aggregated on the hydrophilic surfaces of vesicle. In the vesicular system, the metachromatic effect of MB was dramatically decreased in the presence of hexadecyltrimethylammonium bromide (CTAB) than SDS. It is estimated that the intercalation site of these surfactants on vesicle surfaces was different, that is, the intercalation of CTAB was more effective than that of SDS.
