Hardware Design of High-Performance SAO in HEVC Encoder for Ultra HD Video Processing in Real Time (UHD 영상의 실시간 처리를 위한 고성능 HEVC SAO 부호화기 하드웨어 설계)

  • This paper proposes high-performance SAO(Sample Adaptive Offset) in HEVC(High Efficiency Video Coding) encoder for Ultra HD video processing in real time. SAO is a newly adopted technique belonging to the in-loop filter in HEVC. The proposed SAO encoder hardware architecture uses three-layered buffers to minimize memory access time and to simplify pixel processing and also uses only adder, subtractor, shift register and feed-back comparator to reduce area. Furthermore, the proposed architecture consists of pipelined pixel classification and applying SAO parameters, and also classifies four consecutive pixels into EO and BO concurrently. These result in the reduction of processing time and computation. The proposed SAO encoder architecture is designed by Verilog HDL, and implemented by 180k logic gates in TSMC $0.18{\mu}m$ process. At 110MHz, the proposed SAO encoder can support 4K Ultra HD video encoding at 30fps in real time.

  • In this paper, we proposed a novel algorithm combined simulated annealing and genetic algorithms for designing optimal binary phase computer generated hologram. In the process of genetic algorithm searching by block units, after the crossover and mutation operations, simulated annealing algorithm searching by pixel units is inserted. So, the performance of BPCGH was improved. Computer simulations show that the proposed combined iterative algorithm has better performance than the simulated annealing algorithm in terms of diffraction efficiency

  • In this paper, proposed the seal imprint verification system that could add on the redident information system. In the positioning process, used ring data and in the matching process, used XY pixel distribution. As a result of the verification experiment, the error verification ratio is about 1%. But could verify that this system could be added and operated on the resident information system through the eye-decision after subtacting and adding process.

  • 전광판을 통해 이미지를 표시할 때 이미지를 구성하는 각 화소에 대응하는 도트들 별로, 모두 일정한 밝기로 색상을 출력하기 때문에 이미지 내에 다양한 색상이 포함되어 있는 경우, 상대적으로 밝은 색상이 어두운 색상보다 더 밝게 보이는 문제를 가지고 있다. 또한 기존의 전광판들은 전광판을 통해 글자를 표시할 때 글자의 크기에 관계없이 모두 일정한 밝기로 글자를 표시하기 때문에 상대적으로 작은 글자가 큰 글자에 비해 잘 보이지 않는 문제가 있다. 우리는 전광판을 통해 이미지를 표시할 때, 해당 이미지 내의 다양한 색상들에 따라 부분적으로 전광판의 각 도트들의 휘도를 서로 다르게 출력하고, 전광판을 통해 글자를 표시할 때, 글자의 크기 별로 휘도를 서로 다르게 출력함으로써, 전광판을 통해 표시되는 정보에 대한 가독성을 향상시킬 수 있는 RICS 시스템을 설계한다.

  • 영상의 스크래치 탐지는 프레임 간 화소 데이터의 비교에 있어서 많은 처리 시간을 필요로 한다. 본 논문은 스크래치 탐지 알고리즘이 GPU에서 수행할 수 있도록 병렬 설계를 제안하고, 국가 기록원 소장 디지털화 영상에 대해 실험하였다. 실험에서 제안하는 방법은 순차적 스크래치 탐지 방법과 비교하여 약 5배의 처리 시간을 단축했으며, 탐지율은 각 방법 모두 60% 정도로 유사함을 보였다.

외계행성 탐색관측 시스템 제작 현황

  • 한국천문연구원에서는 2009년부터 외계행성 탐색시스템(KMTNet) 개발 사업을 진행하고 있다. 이 사업에서는 중력렌즈 방법이나 별표면 통과(Transit) 방법으로 외계행성을 탐색하기 위하여, 1.6m 광학 망원경과 3.4억 화소의 모자이크 CCD 카메라로 구성된 2도${\times}$2도의 광시야 관측시스템을 제작하고 있다. 이 시스템은 2014년까지 남반구의 칠레 CTIO(1호기), 남아공화국 SAAO(2호기), 호주 SSO(3호기)에 설치될 예정이다. 광시야 망원경은 최종 설계가 완료되어 제작 중이며, 1호기 주경 가공도 성공적으로 마무리되었다. 모자이크 카메라는 2011년 6월에 미국 오하이오 주립대학교 천문학과와 제작 계약을 체결하였으며, 현재 최종 설계가 진행 중이다. 이번 발표에서는 망원경과 카메라 등 탐색 관측 시스템 제작 현황과 향후 일정을 제시할 것이다.

  • This paper describes the design of image data transmitter for portable media device for Mobile Display Digital Interface standard. The transmitter uses connection lines to 6 to transmit QVGA image data. In this paper, the transmitter is using only 9 packets for image processing and a state-machine based design is adapted for packet processing. The design was verified using FPGA Xilinx virtex4-LX60. Data rate of the transmitter is 363Mbps with six connection lines. The transferring capability is 30 frame of 24bit RGB 500,000 pixel image data per second.

  • In this study, we reviewed the variations of GSD, line rate of a electro-optical payload caused by the changes of operational altitude and attitude of a satellite by applying design parameters of the EC6 which is under development. we also reviewed adjustable increments/decrements of line_rate which are limited by CEU(Camera Electronic Unit) design and then the effect on the MIF(Modulation Transfer Function) performance due to the un-synchronization between line_rate of EOS and ground scan velocity of the satellite based on the design parameters of CEU to show that CEU design is appropriate in terms of line_rate control of EOS.

  • This paper concerns a design of programmable MPEG decoder for video processing by object unit on network. The decoder can process video data effectively by a embedded controller with stack buffers for supporting OOP (Object-Oriented Programming). The controller offers extended instructions that process several data types including 32bit integer type. In addition to that, we have a vector processor, in this decoder that can execute advanced compensation and prediction by half pixel and SA(Shape Adaptive)-IDCT of MPEG-4. Absolutors and halfers in the vector processor make this architecture extensive to a encoder. We verified the decoder with $0.6\mu\textrm{m}$ 5-Volt CMOS COMPASS library.

Advanced LWIR Thermal Imaging Sight Design (원적외선 2세대 열상조준경의 설계)

  • A new second generation advanced thermal imager, which can be used for battle tank sight has been developed by ADD. This system uses a $480\times6$ TDI HgCdTe detector, operating in the $7.7-10.3{\mu}m$ wavelength made by Sofradir. The IR optics has dual field of views such as $2.67\times2^{\circ}$ in NFOV and $10\times7.5^{\circ}$ in WFOV. And also, this optics is used for athermalization of the system. It is certain that our sensor can be used in wide temperature range without any degradation of the system performance. The scanning system to be able to display 470,000 pixels is developed so that the pixel number is greatly increased comparing with the first generation thermal imaging system. In order to correct non-uniformity of detector arrays, the two point correction method has been developed by using the thermo electric cooler. Additionally, to enhance the image of low contrast and improve the detection capability, we have proposed the new technique of histogram processing being suitable for the characteristics of contrast distribution of thermal imagery. Through these image processing techniques, we obtained the highest quality thermal image. The MRTD of the LWIR thermal sight shows good results below 0.05K at spatial frequency 2 cycles/mrad at the narrow field of view.
