A New Tectonic Model of Cretaceous East Asia: Role of Mantle Plume (백악기 동아시아 신지구조 모델: 맨틀 플룸의 역할)

  • The hypothesis of ridge subduction which explains the Cretaceous igneous activities in East Asia including China, Korea and Japan, has been widely accepted in the society. Especially, the hypothesis explains the southwest-to-northeast migration of the Cretaceous adakite emergence in Southwest Japan. However, the hypothesis has several issues because the geochemical analyses and plate reconstruction model are not consistent with the consequences of the ridge subduction. To resolve the issues, a new hypothesis of the plume-continent and plume-slab interaction is suggested, which explains the igneous activities during the Cretaceous. In this review, I briefly introduce the two hypotheses and suggest an additional future study to prove the new hypothesis.

  • actuator system은 조선, 제철, 석유화학 및 중공업 등 다양한 분야에서 각종 유량 및 공기압 등을 제어하는 밸브에 필수적으로 사용되는 핵심 부픔이다. 최근 유정 개발 등 해양구조물 설치 조절이 복잡화 되면서 본 부품이 해양산업에 사용되는 빈도가 증가하고 있다. 이 경우 본 부품이 염분이 많은 바닷물 또는 주변 환경에 직접 노출되기 때문에 내식성이 매우 엄격하게 관리되고 있다. 본 부품에 부식이 발생할 경우 control system의 작동을 지배하는 구성 품에 부식이 발생하여 actuator로서 기능을 상실하여 오동작이나 설비 가동이 중단되는 사례가 빈번하다. 현재 본 부품의 내식성 향상을 위해서는 금속기 표면에 페인트를 사용하는 방법이 가장 널리 사용되고 있는 방법이다. 이 경우 금속 표면과 도장 면과의 사이에 기포발생이나 이물질 유입 등으로 인한 밀착성이 감소되거나 blister 등으로 인하여 도장 코팅 면이 박리되는 사례가 빈번하다. 이를 방지하기 위해서 최근 고 밀착성 내식용 도장 방법을 적용하고 있으나, 이 방법으로 도장한 부품의 표면에 충격 등으로 인한 결함이 발생할 경우 pitting corrosion 등 급격한 부식이 발생하여 이에 대한 근본족인 대책 수립이 절실한 실정이다. 본 연구에서는 근본적으로 금속기 표면과 밀착성이 우수한 화성피막 용액을 이용하여 희생양극에 의한 내식성을 확보하고, 다양한 용도에 적합한 색상 도료를 화성피말 위에 적용하여 화성피막 층의 보호 및 actuator의 목적에 맞는 도장을 하였다. 희생 양극효과를 극대화 할 수 있는 최적 화성피막 층은 $15{\mu}m$이며 이때 1,000시간 이상의 내식성을 확보하였다. 이 경우 이론적인 내식 수명은 2년으로 추정할 수 있었다.

Estimating Volume of Martian Valleys using Adaptive TIN Filtering Algorithm (Adaptive TIN 필터링을 이용한 화성 계곡의 체적 추정)

  • The investigation of valley networks and their volume provide important information about past water activities on Mars. As an alternative of conventional image processing methods, terrain filtering algorithm using pointcloud data is suggested in this study. First, the topography of pointcloud is inverted so that the valleys become positive features and the algorithm is then applied to distinguish the valleys from the surface. Ground DEM and object DEM are generated from both the valleys and the surface pointcloud then the volume of valleys is estimated by multiplying the height difference between the surface with valleys and the area of valleys based on grid cellsize. In the test of valleys adjacent to Tuscaloosa crater, the total volume of valleys was estimated to be $1.41{\times}10^{11}m^3$ with the difference of 12% and 16% compared with the infill volume of Tuscaloosa crater and BTH result respectively.

  • MST247ns(Hwaseong #2) was developed by the method of Di-mon mating between monokaryotic strains derived from "Hwaseong #1" and dikaryotic strain "Suhan #1". The optimum temperature of mycelial growth was $25-30^{\circ}C$. The optimum temperature of primordia formation and fruiting body development were $8-15^{\circ}C$ and $9-14^{\circ}C$. Days of primordia formation were 4-5 days later Suhan #1. The stipes were longer than "Suhan #1". The surfaces of stipe were white and the tissues got harder and more elastic. Therefore, the management of growth environment under low temperatures was relatively easy and storability got much better.

Gravity Anomaly around Boam Deposit, Uljin: Implications on Economic Geology (울진 보암광상 일대 중력 이상: 광상학적 함의)

  • Gravity exploration was conducted to determine the distribution of igneous complex related to lithium pegmatite in the Boam deposit of Uljin, Gyeongsangbuk-do, and the spatial relationship with the regional geology and ore bodies were studied. The gravity exploration result shows that the Boam deposit area is characterized by relatively low gravity anomaly that surrounds the deposit. The Boam deposit is located near the southwest-northeast directional boundary of gravity anomalies where igneous complex (granite gneiss) contacts with the Yuli and Wonnam groups in the southeast, Janggun limestone layers in the east-west direction, and Dongsugok metasedimentary rocks. While the western boundary in the southwest-northeast direction is relatively clear, there may also be unknown igneous complex that are not exposed on the surface at the eastern and southern boundaries because a relatively low gravity anomaly surrounds the deposit. The distribution characteristics of these hidden igneous complex will be used as useful data for predicting the distribution of the lithium pegmatite in the future.

The Necessity for Coronary Angiography in Atherosclerotic Arterial Obstruction in the Lower Extremities and the Clinical Features of Accompanied Coronary Arterial Diseases (죽상동맥경화성 하지동맥폐쇄증에서 관상동맥조영술의 필요성 및 동반되는 관상동맥 질환의 양상)

  • Background: Peripheral arterial disease is frequently accompanied with systemic arteriosclerosis and more than half of the cause of deaths is due to the development of coronary arterial disease. Moreover, it is known that the most frequent cause of death after a bypass surgery of chronic arterial obstruction is heart related complications. Especially in patients with atherosclerotic arterial obstruction in the lower extremities who had no history of heart disease or had no presenting symptoms of ischemic heart disease showed a high rate of postoperative mortality and for this reason we suggest preoperative evaluation in these patients to evaluate whether or not coronary arterial disease is accompanied. Material and Method: Since Feb. 2001 to Oct. 2004, we analyzed 52 patients who were operated on for atherosclerotic arterial obstruction in the lower extremities, with the exception of patients with a past history of heart disease or symptoms of ischemic heart disease. They underwent on the same day a coronary and femoral angiography for evaluation of accompanying coronary arterial disease. Of among these patients, we compared those who received bypass surgery of the arteries of the peripheral extremities alone to those who underwent combined coronary artery bypass surgery. Result: 63% of the reported cases of atherosclerotic arterial obstruction in the lower extremities were accompanied with coronary arterial disease. Old age, hypertension, diabetes mellitus, smoking, and hypercholesterolemia are known risk factors for arteriosclerosis and of these, only old age and hypertension had statistically significance in patients with severe atherosclerotic arterial obstruction in the lower extremities accompanied with coronary arterial disease. Diabetes, smoking, and hypercholesterolemia showed no statistical significance in this group. With the increase in severity of the range and the degree of atherosclerotic arterial obstruction, coronary arterial disease is frequently accompanied and its severity also increased. Patients who received both peripheral artery and coronary artery bypass surgery showed no difference in the period of hospitalization and ICU stay period compared with patients who received bypass surgery of the arteries of the lower extremities alone. Conclusion: Patients with atherosclerotic arterial obstruction in the lower extremities without symptoms of ischem to evaluate coronary arterial disease for active treatment, especially in the patients with old age, hypertension and high AVD scores.

'Hyangcheola', A New Fragrant Rice Variety with High Iron and Zinc Content (철과 아연 함량이 높고 향기가 있는 벼 '향철아')

  • "Hyangcheola" is a new japonica rice variety developed as a cross between "Joryeong" and "Seolhyangchal" by the rice breeding team at NICS in 2014. The heading date of "Hyangcheola" is July 28 in the middle plain area, which is 8 days earlier than that of "Hwaseong." "Hyangcheola" has a 76 cm long culm, which is 8 cm shorter than "Hwaseong" and has 86 spikelets per panicle. The viviparous germination rate of "Hyangcheola" was 27.9%. It showed resistance to stripe virus but susceptibility to bacterial blight (K1, K2, and K3 races), dwarf and black streak dwarf viruses and planthoppers. The milled rice of this variety exhibits translucent and medium short grain shape. The protein content of "Hyangcheola" was 8.2%, which was 1.5% higher than that of "Hwaseong." "Hyangcheola" is a rice with a fragrant aroma. The content of iron in 100 g of brown "Hyangcheola" rice was 15.12 mg, which is 3.69 mg higher than that of "Hwaseong," and the zinc content was 32.24 mg, which is 8.75 mg more than that of the comparative variety "Hwaseong." The average milled rice yield of "Hyangcheola" was 4.8 MT/ha at our sites under ordinary cultivation (Registration No. 6807).

  • The HwaSungSungYouk is one of the construction project in viewpoint of today's construction management and various information how to build the HwaSung at the last of the eighteen century had been recorded in HwaSungSungYoukEuGye. The purpose of this study is to analyse the data in HwaSungSungYoukEuGye in viewpoint of today's construction management for estimating the resources of PalDal-mun construction. In the record, there are a 10t of information relate to time management, cost management and human resource management, and the concept of modern construction management will be also use to figure out the construction data of the HwaSungSungYoukEuGye.

  • 알루미늄 전해 콘덴서에 있어서 유전체로 사용되는 $Al_2O_3$ 산화 피막의 두께와 형상이 콘덴서의 전기적 특성에 어떠한 영향을 미치는지 알아보기 위하여, 저압 16 V급과 중고압 200 V급으로 선정하여 화성전압을 변화시켜 시료 콘덴서를 제작한 후 전기적 제 특성을 측정하였다. 그 결과, 화성 전압이 높아질수록 산화 피막의 두께가 두껍게 형성되고 정전 용량은 감소하였으며, 유전 손실과 누설전류도 감소하였다. 또한, 장시간 수명시험을 수행한 결과 전기적 특성이 보다 안정되었음을 알았다.
