Relative Efficiency of Korea Trucking Transport Business Using DEA Model (DEA를 이용한 국내 화물자동차 운송업의 상대적 효율성분석)

  • Korea Trucking Transport Business is one of principal national logistics sector, though, so many issues and problems came to arises, which brought cargo transport system crisis over the country such as logistics enormous jam and traffic. This paper analyzes the efficiency of korean trucking transport business firms using DEA model. We evaluate the CCR, BCC efficiency and RTS of 30 trucking transport firms. We also suggest the trucking transport firms which can be benchmarked based on analyzed information. The result shows that seven enterprises whose values of CCR efficiency are 1, and fifteen enterprises whose values of BCC efficiency are 1. RTS indicates IRS of 16 firms, DRS of 5 firms and CRS of 9 firms.

Productivity Evaluation and Factor Analysis in Commercial Road Freight Transport Industry (영업용 도로화물운송업의 생산 효율성 평가 및 영향요인 분석)

  • The objective of this paper is to evaluate production efficiency of the commercial road freight transportation industry using quarterly actual data by individual truck drivers from January 2005 to September 2009. In addition, this study analyzes various impact factors that influence production efficiency, including regulatory factors (e.g., entrust management system and multi-level transactions). For this purpose, this study uses data envelopment analysis and a truncated Tobit model. As a result, production efficiency of the general freight sector is higher than those of the other two sectors. Also, production efficiency in the steel goods sector ranks the highest; meanwhile, production efficiency in the oil goods sector ranks the lowest. In particular, production efficiency indicators of the commercial road freight transportation industry fluctuate with time by a small margin, and have an upward tendency on the whole. Finally, some policy implications are given to promote production efficiency of the commercial road freight transportation industry.

A Comparative Study about Industrial Structure Feature between TL Carriers and LTL Carriers (구역화물운송업과 노선화물운송업의 산업구조 특성 비교)

  • Transportation enterprises should maintain constant and qualitative operation. Thus, in short period, transportation enterprises don't change supply in accordance with demand. In the result, transportation enterprises don't reduce operation in spite of management deficit at will. In freight transportation type, less-than-truckload(LTL) has more relation with above transportation feature than truckload(TL) does. Because freight transportation supply of TL is more flexible than that of LTL in correspondence of freight transportation demand. Relating to above mention, it appears that shortage of road and freight terminal of LTL is larger than that of TL. Especially in road and freight terminal comparison, shortage of freight terminal is larger than that of road. Shortage of road is the largest in 1990, and improved after-ward. But shortage of freight terminal is serious lately. So freight terminal needs more expansion than road, and shows better investment condition than road. Freight terminal expansion brings road expansion in LTL, on the contrary, freight terminal expansion substitutes freight terminal for road in TL. In transportation revenue, freight terminal's contribution to LTL is larger than that to TL. However, when we adjust quasi-fixed factor - road and freight terminal - to optimal level in the long run, in TL, diseconomies of scale becomes large, but in LTL, economies of scale becomes large. Consequently, it is necessary for TL to make counterplans to activate management of small size enterprises and owner drivers. And LTL should make use of economies of scale by solving the problem, such as nonprofit route, excess of rental freight handling of office, insufficiency of freight terminal, shortage of driver, and unpreparedness of freight insurance.

  • 한국통합물류협회는 2월 21일 정기총회에서 천일정기 화물자동차(주) 박재억 대표이사를 제3대 회장으로 선임하였다. 대기업만이 아닌 많은 중소기업으로 이뤄진 통합물류협회는 모두의 이익을 조화롭게 조율할 수 있는 회장을 통해 업계 발전을 이룬다는 목표 아래, 전 물류영역을 아우르는 다양한 경험을 가진 박재억 회장을 선임했다고 밝혔다. 박재억 신임회장은 전일정기화물자동차(주)를 이끌연서, 컨테이너와 벌크화물 운송, 특수화물, 철강 및 철도운송, 항만하역사업, 자동차부품운송, 택배, 창고 등 물류 전 영역에서 물류정보화, 정시운송시스템 도입과 독보적인 조달물류 분야 개척 등 우리나라 물류경쟁력 확보에 앞장서 왔다. 3월 20일 열린 기자간담회를 통해 박재억 신임회장에게 협회 운영 계획에 대한 견해를 들어보았다.

A International Comparative Study on the Number of Distribution Channel Levels (운송단계의 국제간 비교에 관한 연구)

  • 현재 도로화물운송을 분석하는데 가장 많이 사용되는 지표는 수송톤(ton)과 톤-키로(ton-km)이다. 하지만 이러한 두 지표는 도로화물운송체계를 설명하기보다는 단순히 운송실적을 나타내는 통계지표이다. 따라서 본 연구에서는 한국의 도로화물운송체계를 설명할 수 있는 운송단계, 총 운송거리, 순물동량, 평균운송거리 등의 4개 요소를 추정하였다. 그리고 한국의 도로화물 운송체계의 문제점을 진단하기 위하여 외국이 도로화물운송체계와 비교분석하였다. 본 연구에서 발견된 주요결과는 (1) 한국과 대만은 운송단계와 총 운송거리가 증가하고 평균운송거리는 감소하는 추세를 보였고, (2) 한국과는 대조적으로, 미국, 일본, 네덜란드는 운송단계와 총 운송거리는 감소하고 평균운송거리는 증가하는 변화추세를 보였으며, (3) 시계열 분석결과, 운송단계의 증가는 GDP대비 물류비와 운송비를 증가시키고 운송단계의 감소는 GDP대비 물류비와 운송비를 감소시키는 것으로 나타났다. 본 연구결과, 한국의 도로화물운송체계는 운송단계를 증가시키는 비효율적인 방향으로 진행되어왔고 이러한 운송단계의 증가는 GDP대비 물류비를 증가시키는 주요 원인임을 알 수 있었다. 따라서 한국의 도로화물운송체계를 개선시키기 위해서는 지능형 화물운송체계의 구축, 복합기능의 화물거점시설 확충, 화물자동차 운송업의 규제완화, 기업물류관리의 선진화 등의 정책을 통하여 불필요한 운송단계의 단축이 필요하다.

Efficiency Analysis for Korean Trucking Companies based on the Data Envelopment Ananlysis(DEA) (DEA 모형을 이용한 국내 화물자동차운송업체의 상대적 효율성 분석)

  • Logistic system and methods of the transportation have been changed rapidly by the variety of the logistics environment. It is necessary to analyze the efficiency of Korean trucking companies for enhancing the competitive power and operating. This paper will describe the analysis of the efficiency of the trucking companies with DEA models. By the CCR and the BCC models, which are in parts of DEA model, the efficiency and RTS(Return To Scale) of forty two selected trucking companies were studied. It was also analyzed how the study the input-output variables were effected. And then, some of the forty two trucking companies were shown as the benchmark. As the result of analysis on the two models, seven companies won the score '1' on CCR model and seventeen companies on BCC model. Moreover, this study showed that reducing the total asset out of input variables, and raising the sales profit out of the output variables played a main role to increase the efficiency of the trucking companies highly.

A Study on the Operational Way of Freight Forwarding Company: Focusing on Residental Moving Company (화물운송주선업체의 운영방안에 관한 연구 - 이사화물운송주선업체를 중심으로 -)

  • This study aims to provide solutions concerned with to residential moving companies about their operational problems. In order to shed light on these problem, factor analysis and fuzzy AHP method are adopted. Selected factors are low quality of workers and equipments, weak condition of business, policy and form of a contract, and excessive competition. The results of survey show that excessive competition is the most urgent problem compared with other problems. In the twelve-measured variables, The problem of non-certificated firms, low service quality caused by excessive competition, and claims caused by lack of service instruction are chosen as the urgent matters. As a result of the analyses, the study would propose policy directions how to solve these problems. Firstly, the government should make the legal basis of operating the industry because there is too competitive in the field. Secondly, the government should regulate firms which have not a certificate because they are the cause of low service quality in the field. Thirdly, in order to improve the service quality, the study would suggest that the managers should instruct the workers of residential moving companies. Lastly, the paper would suggest that customers check the certificate of the firm allowed by the government authorities.

A Comparative Study on Job Satisfaction of Road Freight Transportation Industry Workers by Type of Employment (화물자동차운송업 종사자들의 고용형태에 따른 직업만족도 비교 연구)

  • This study aims to analyse the differences of job satisfaction in road freight transportation industry workers by different types of employment. The researchers utilized reliability test and factor analysis to estimate the validity and feasibility of the questionnaire. Multivariate analysis of variance (MANOVA) was also applied to assess the differences of job satisfaction level by different employment types. The results of reliability test and factor analysis clearly show that questionnaire samples are reliable and feasible. The multivariate analysis of variance result shows statistical insignificance in the level of job satisfaction between part-time workers and special type ones. On the other hand, there was a significant difference between full-time workers and those in other types of employment. The significant variables such as income, welfare, and working hour, etc were discovered.

  • The objective of this paper is to calculate the minimum scale of management for transportation business in order to achieve a form of enterprise. In this study the tracking minimum scale of business is the minimum number of operating trucks. Transportation companies should ensure the number of trucks for a type of business model rather than a means of livelihood model. The method to calculate the minimum number of trucks for the transportation business model can use an approach of either the qualitative and the quantitative technique. This study chooses the quantitative technique to calculate the minimum number of trucks through the analysis of break-even point.
