A Study of Road Freight Mode Choiice Model (도로 화물운송 수단선택모형에 관한 연구)

  • 물류활동에서 운송부분이 차지하는 중요성은 기업의 경영자층에게 더욱 중요하게 인식되고 있는데, 이는 경쟁 환경 때문이다. 경쟁환경에서는 'Output Logistic' 즉, 운송활동의 수행정도에 따라 물류활동의 성패가 결정된다. 따라서 기업물류활동의 근간인 운송활동의 주요 결정요인과 선택형태를 알아보고, 이들이 실제로 기업의 물류활동에 어느 정도 영향을 미치는지를 심층적으로 분석해보는 것도 매우 의미 있는 일이라 하겠다. 더구나 우리 나라의 현재의 경제여건에서는 물류비에 대한 효율화 작업이 필요한데 반해 그 동안의 연구들을 살펴보면 SP 자료를 이용한 가상적 상황하에서의 화주의 선택행태를 분석하였으므로 실제 선택한 수단간의 gap을 극복할 수 없었다. 기업은 운송수단의 선택시 복잡한 결정과정을 갖는다. 이는 운송부문이 총물류비용에서 차지하는 중요도 때문이다. 기업의 운송관리자는 화물을 출하할 때마다 선택의 기로에 서게 된다. 즉, 일부는 조직 체계나 다른 계약 여건에 따라 이전과 동일한 수단을 선택하는 경우도 있지만, 많은 경우에는 매번 출하시 마다 최적의 운송수단을 선택하기 위한 새로운 결정을 하게 된다. 본 연구는 이러한 화주의 수단선택행태를 실제 RP 자료를 이용하여 분석하였다. 수단선택모형의 적용 및 분서결과를 살펴보면 상당히 attractive한 결과를 발견할 수 있는데 각 품목별 추정 값이 운송거리에 대해서는 음으로 운송비용에 대해서는 양으로 나타나고 있다. 다시 말하면 운송거리가 길수록 효용은 감소하고 운송비용이 커질수록 효용은 증가한다는 것을 의미하므로 그 분석결과가 올바른 결과를 도출하고 있지는 않다. 그러나 여기서 알수 있는 것은 운송거리와 운송비용이 각각 주요한 변수라는 것이다. 모형의 타당성을 검증하기 위해서는 logilikelihood 값을 구하여 $\rho$^2분석을 시행하였다. 여기서는 각 품목별로 $\rho$^2값이 약 0.15~0.3의 비교적 높은 수치를 보여주고 있으므로 모형의 설명력이 어느 정도 있다는 것이 아울러 증명이 되었다. 상관관계에 대한 분석에서는 영업용 차량간의 상관관계가 높게 나타났으며, 이는 곧 영업용 화물차량을 적재중량별로 구분하는 것이 별 의미가 없음을 의미한다. 다시 말하면 자가용 차량을 보유하고 있지 않은 회사는 다른 운송전문업체에 화물운송을 의뢰하게 되므로 출하중량에 따라 화물차량을 구분하는 것에 대해서 그다지 큰 고려를 하지 않는 것으로 해석할 수가 있다.

Choice Factors of Freight Transport Mode in Korea: Literature Review and Directions for Future Research (국내 화물운송수단 선택요인의 문헌 연구와 향후 연구 방향)

  • The present study was conducted to analyze transport mode choice factors of shippers in Korea and to suggest policy implications and directions for future research. The findings showed that the research on freight mode choice factors in Korea is somewhat insufficient compared to that of other countries. In order to enhance the research, it is necessary to expand the number of studies and to strengthen the research to reflect characteristics of each transport mode. In particular, it is necessary to focus on identifying the characteristics of multimodal transport, including railway and shipping linked to truck. On the other hand, it was confirmed that the major factors influencing the choice of transport mode of shippers in Korea overlapped with foreign research cases. In addition, the implications for policy were derived when the analysis was separately conducted for Korea and other countries regarding individual transport mode and transport range. These results could be applied to various fields such as policy making to improve the efficiency of shippers' selection of transport mode and the estimation of transport mode choice model.

  • Rail transportation system are needed to develop proper corresponds to satisfy various demands in freight transportation since there are many problems in rail transportation infrastructure and operation. This paper analyzes characteristics of rail transportation consumers and develops policy for vitality of rail transportation by survey of rail transportation consumers and AHP methodology. This paper is organized as follows. Section 1 presents the description of the objective and the methods for this study. Section 2 presents the description of the methods for analysis of characteristics of consumers of rail freight transportation. Section 3 presents the characteristics of rail transportation consumers by analysis the survey results of rail transportation consumers. Section 4 summarizes our conclusions and discusses further research topics.

Development of a Behavioral Mode Choice Model for Road Goods Movement (형태요소를 적용한 화물수송수단 선택 모형의 개발)

  • 기존의 추정된 화물 수요모형은 화물의 출하특성과 관련된 설명변수를 중심으로 추정되었으며, 이에 따라 수송수단 선택 과정에서 화주가 느끼는 실제의 인식 상황을 모형내에 적절히 반영하지 못하였다. 본 연구는 기존 연구가 갖는 한계점을 극복하고자 화주가 수송수단을 선택할 때 느끼는 인식상황을 모형 내에 적용시켜 수단 선택 특성을 분석하였다. 연구대상은 우리나라의 188개 제조업체에서 화물자동차로 출하한 내수용 화물이며, 연구의 범위도 현실 운송체계 내에서 화주의 수단선택 행태를 설명하는 단기간의 예측으로 제한하였다. 모형추정결과 우리나라의 공로화물수송을 해석하기 위해서는, 출하중량까지를 고려한 다항로짓모형 형태이면서 인식 요소를 행태변수로 추가한 모형을 이용하는 것이 가장 적절하다는 결론을 내렸다. 그리고 이에 따라 주요한 설명 변수들의 탄력성과 화주의 인식 요소에 대한 특성값을 분석하여 제시하였다. 연구결과는 활용성 측면에서 직접 활용이 가능한 것과 잠재적인 변화를 예측하는데 이용되는 것으로 구분된다. 먼저 직접활용이 가능한 것은 수송수단과 관계된 변수들을 해석하여 얻는데, 수송비용과 수송시간에 대한 계수값의 크기와 부호, 그리고 탄력성은 정부의 정책부서나 운송인의 계획수립에 직접 적용된다. 다음으로 화주의 인식 요소는 잠재적인 변화를 예측하는데 이용되며 각 요소가 갖는 탄력성 및 특징은 운송인의 고객관리 기준이된다.

  • Modern freight transport pursues not only the reduction of logistic costs but also aims at green logistics and efficient shipments. In order to accomplish these goals, various policies regarding the multimodal shipment and stopover to logistic facilities have widely been made. Such situation requires changes in existing methods for analyzing freight demand. However, the reality is that a reliable freight demand forecast is limited, since in the transport research field there is no robust freight demand model that can accommodate transshipments at logistic facilities. This study suggested a novel method to analyze freight demand, which can consider transshipments in multi-modal networks. Also, the applicability of this method was discussed through an example test.

Analysis of Mode Choice Characteristics for Eurasian Freight Transportation (유라시아 화물운송수단선택 특성 분석)

  • It is important to compare the present condition of railway and marine freight transportation corridors to make good progress for freight transportation to the Eurasia region. This study is performed to investigate the current state of international corridors and to analyze mode choice characteristics between railway and marine transportation in the Eurasia region. SP (Stated Preference) data surveyed from international forwarders who are dealing with international freight shipment to the Eurasia area was used. The analysis results show that there is a competitive relationship between railway and marine transportation to Eurasia, and that the accessibility to each mode has an influence on freight mode choice. It is expected that this study will provide good insight to make effective use of various international corridors in the Eurasia region.

  • Inland transport becomes more and more important in connecting ports with inland. Therefore, studying on cargo flow from ports to regions has been active in progress by many researchers. However current statistical data of freight flow from origin locations to destination locations does not reflect the exact characteristics of freight flow. Also, they also do not reflect the characteristics of multimodal transport system in which cargos go through intermediate locations such as logistics center or inland container depot. In growing up the emergent need of rebuilding statistical data for freight flow from origin locations to destination locations, this paper will propose a freight flow model with logistics center and it will be verified by genetic algorithm through the simulation scenarios.

An Empirical Study on Comparative Analysis of Freight Demand Estimation Methods - Unimodal O/D Based Method and P/C Based Method : Focus on Korean Import/Export Container Freight (수단O/D기반 및 P/C기반 화물수요추정방식의 실증적 비교: 우리나라 컨테이너 화물을 중심으로)

  • This study deals with the comparative analysis between two freight demand estimation methods : Unimodal O/D based method and P/C based method. The data of access/egress truck trips has been omitted from the Korean freight unimodal O/D of KTDB. This is because KTDB's unimodal O/D has not marked the series of unlinked trips down as the whole freight intermodal transport and surveyed only the main-haul trips of them. For these reasons, freight intermodal transport mechanism has not been analysed perfectly with Korean unimodal O/D data. This study tries to estimate P/C table of Korean Import/Export container freight and develop the MCC(Multimodal Channel Choice) model. Then, comparing unimodal O/D based method and P/C based method in terms of the switch commodities between production point(the initial point of freight transport) and consumption point(the terminal point of freight transport), unimodal commodities, and commodities on links is conducted. The results show that the P/C based method is able to simulate the freight intermodal transport.

A Study on Expansion of Inland Railway Use For Container Cargo (컨테이너 화물의 내륙철도이용 확대에 관한 연구)

  • Over 80% of Korea's cargo transport relies on public roads. Such over-reliance has created a range of social problems including environmental damage. Korea thus faces an urgent need to establish an alternative mode of cargo transportation. In view of the changing international logistics environment, railway is clearly a superior mode of transport. The prerequisite task today for Korea is to enhance the competitiveness of inland railway by switching to railway and spurring new demand for cargo. This study examines inland railway cargo transport from the demand perspective. Specifically, through the use of a survey, the study identifies key factors influencing the decisions of container shippers regarding the use of railway for cargo transport. The survey responses were statistically tested using Smart PLS structural equation modeling. The results indicate that attitude toward railway use had the strongest influence on choice, while the key variable affecting attitude formation was cost.

  • Recently, the importance of rail in the carriage of freight is strongly emphasized. However, the role of rail in the carriage of freight has been decreasing. The purpose of this study is to suggest policy measures for increasing rail freight. Firstly, this study reviews the current situations of the rail freight in Korea and provides theories for the necessity of government support to rail freight transport. Various support measures are identified and evaluated. According to the evaluation, it is shown that the provision of subsidy for facility construction is the most desirable measure in the sense of cost effectiveness and durability of effect. Finally, detailed implementation strategies for the desirable support measures are suggested.
