In this study, we investigated the biological activity of antioxidant and antimicrobiological effect of Chondria crassicaulis (CC), which, using methanol, dichlolometane and ethanol, were extracted and fractionated into four different types: hexane(CCMH), methanol (CCMM), butanol (CCMB), and aqueous (CCMA) partition layers. The reducing activity on the 1,I-diphenyl-2-picrylhydrazyl (DPPH) radical and $O^{2-}$ and $O_{2}$$O_{2}$radical scavenging potential, in search for antioxidation effects of CC partition layer, were sequentially screened. Among the four fractions, CCMM had the highest antioxidative activity. The antimicrobial activity was increased in proportion to its concentration by the paper disc method. Among the various solvent layers, the CCMB, CCMH and CCMM showed relatively strong antimicrobial activities in the order.

Objectives: This study aims to report a case of hot flush-type rosacea improved by oral administration of Baekho-tang. Methods : The patient visited our clinic due to hot flash symptom on April 16, 2020. Based on the symptoms of hating heat, bloating, sweating, and thirst, traditional medicine Baekho-tang was prescribed. Results : After 5 days of taking Baekho-tang, the symptom score of hot flush improved significantly from 8 to 3. About a week later, most of the symptoms, including hot flush, edema, and burning sensation almost disappeared. After treatment, the follow-up process was conducted for about a month, and it was confirmed that the flushing of the face did not recur and remained improved. Conclusions : After a week of Baekho-tang administration, hot flush, burning sensation, edema and other symptoms associated with rosacea improved overall.

Pycnogenol is used as a dietary supplement based on various medical research studies suggesting health benefits. In recent years, it has also been used in cosmetic products, but the clinical research on its dermatologic effects has been insufficient. This study was designed to determine the effectiveness of pycnogenol topically applied to skin of individuals with acne in their teens and twenties. Cosmetics containing 0.2% pycnogenol were applied to a group of 11 clinical subjects for 6 weeks and their skin conditions were assessed. The group that used cosmetics with pycnogenol showed decrease in P-Acnes, acne causing bacteria, phorphyrin index, a metabolite, and the pigmentation and redness index. This study confirms that pycnogenol extract is effective dermatologically in decreasing acne bacteria and reducing redness and pigmentation of skin affected by acne.

Chemical components of red algae (Gelidium amansii, Gracilaria verrucosa, Gigartina tenella, Carpopeltis cornea, Plocamium ovicornis, Callophyllis adnata, Lomentaria hakodatensis, Gymnogongrus flabelliformis, Chondrus pinnulatus, Adinotrichia fragilis, Gloipeltis tenax and Campylaephora hypnaeoides) were examined. The contents of carbohydrate, ash, crude protein and fat in dried red algae are $40.38\~69.88\%,\;8.57\~30.23\%,\;18.11\~33.90\%\;and\;0.11\~0.90\%$ on dry base, respectively. Yields of water-soluble compound in dried red algae and contents of sulfate in water-soluble compound extracted red algae were $4.32\~55.78\%\;and\;1.65\~19.48\%$, respectively. The principal sugars of water-soluble compound extracted from red algae were galactose, 3, 6-anhydrogalactose, glucose and xylose.

관절염은 관절에 염증을 일으키는 현상을 말하며, 염증이란 병든 부위에 부종, 홍조, 발열, 동통과 같은 병리학적인 반응을 특징으로 한다. 관절염은 그 자체가 병명이 아니고 어떤 질환의 한결과로서 나타난다. 그러므로 관절염이 발생하면 그 원인 질환이 무엇인지 찾아보아야 한다. 관절염의 종류는 무려 100여 가지가 넘으며 퇴행성 관절염, 류머티스 관절염, 통풍성 관절염, 루푸스, 통풍 등이 일반적으로 흔한 종류이다.

홍조류의 일종인 우뭇가사리에서 채쥐한 섬유소로 제작된 종이(펄프)가 최근 서영범 충남대학교 임산공학과 교수에 의해 공개됐다. 지금까지 목재 펄프가 아닌 비목재 펄프에 대한 도전은 많았다. 볏짚, 사탕수수, 갈대, 대나무 등 주로 지상에서 채취되는 원료를 사용했는데, 해조류를 활용한 것은 지극히 예외적인 경우로 더욱 큰 관심을 불러일으키고 있다.
