MECHANICAL POWER SYSTEM OF TONGCHEON-UI, AN ASTRONOMICAL CLOCK MADE BY HONG, DAE-YONG (홍대용이 제작한 천문시계 통천의의 기계동력시스템)

  • Hong, Dae-Yong manufactured the Tongcheon-ui (Pan-celestial Armillary Sphere) with cooperating clock researcher Na, Kyeong-Jeok, and its craftsman An, Cheo-In, in Naju of Jeolla Province in 1760 ~ 1762. Tongcheon-ui is a kind of astronomical clock with an armillary sphere which is rotated by the force generated by a lantern clock's weight. In our study, we examine the lantern clock model of Tongcheon-ui through its description of the articles written by Hong himself. As his description, however, did not explain the detail of the mechanical process of the lantern clock, we investigate the remains of lantern clocks in the possession of Korea University Museum and Seoul National University Museum. Comparing with the clocks of these museums, we designed the lantern clock model of Tongcheon-ui which measures 115 mm (L) × 115 mm (W) × 307 mm (H). This model has used the structure of the striking train imitated from the Korea University Museum artifact and is also regulated by a foliot escapement which is connected to a going train for timekeeping. The orientation of the rotation of the going train and the striking train of our model makes a difference with the remains of both university museums. That is, on the rotation axis of the first gear set of Tongcheon-ui's lantern clock, the going and the striking trains take on a counterclockwise and clockwise direction, respectively. The weight of 6.4 kg makes a force driving these two trains to stick to the pulley on the twine pulling across two spike gears corresponding to the going train and the striking train. This weight below the pulley may travel down about 560 mm per day. We conclude that the mechanical system of Tongcheon-ui's lantern clock is slightly different from the Japanese style.

  • Since the dismantling processes of building are very dangerous, there have been many studies to develop a remote operating devices using joystick. In this paper, in order to improve the operability of the dismantling actuator that is usually an excavator, a novel concept of tele-operated haptic device is proposed. Operators who use this haptic device with additional environmental sensing devices can work safely away from the dangerous sites. First, based on the concept design of the haptic device, the workspace mapping from the haptic device to the excavator is explored. Second, the kinematics which deals with the conversion from the 3 dimensional position information of the haptic device to the joint variable information of the backhoe is included. Lastly, 3D graphical simulation of both haptic device and the backhoe will be shown. This new design of the haptic device can be easily manufactured and gives the workers very convenient and transparent remote control capability.

  • 임의 형상의 미세구조 패턴의 형성기술은 광전자 공학부터 생물학적 적용까지 넓은 분야에서 폭발적인 잠재력을 가지고 있다. 그러나 많은 패턴 형성에 관한 연구는 제작 프로세서 비용이 높아 일부의 기능성 반도체 디바이스 혹은 유기물 광학 미디어등에 한정 되고 있으며 고온 구조용 세라믹스에 적용은 거의 예가 없는 실정이다. 최근 들어 MEMS, 고온내열 부재, 광학부재에 관한 연구의 진전과 함께 고온 구조부재의 표면에 미세구조를 부여하는 연구의 니즈가 높아지고 있다. 이에 본 연구에서는 폴리 비닐 알콜(PVA)과 금형(석영 몰드)의 이형성이 높은 것에 착안하여 특단의 장치를 이용하지 않고 간단한 전사 방법으로 알루미나 소결체에 미세구조 부여를 시험하였다.

  • 펨토셀은 저전력으로 단거리에 작동하는 옥내용 기지국으로서 짧은 거리로 인해 파워 손실이 적어 옥내 사용자들의 서비스 품질을 향상시키며 저렴한 비용으로 설치가 용이하므로 가정, 사무실, 아파트 등 옥내 사용자들의 서비스 품질을 향상시키는 해결책으로 주목 받고 있다 [1]-[4]. 하지만, 펨토셀로 인한 기존 셀구조의 변화는 여러가지 기술적인 문제들을 발생시킨다. 그 중 가장 중요한 문제가 간섭으로 인한 시스템 성능의 열화이다 [1]-[5]. 본고에서는 3GPP에서 진행 중인 표준화 동향을 바탕으로 펨토셀 환경에서 발생할 수 있는 간섭 시나리오와, 그에 대한 간섭 관리 기법에 대해서 살펴본다.

  • In this paper, automatic sunvisor system is introduced for driver's safety and convenience. This system has the mechanism which keeps the sun off without obstruction of driver's sight. The mechanism can make the sunvisor move forward or rotate left while remaining inside inner roof. The control system consists of a CPU, a motor driver, light sensors, and the algorithm that can control the movement of sunvisor efficiently. When the light sensors take the sun light, they give the signal to the CPU and the CPU calculates the best position of the sunvisor with the information of driver's eyes height. Then, the CPU gives the signal to motors that can move the sunvisor.

  • Train control and monitoring system for the railway train requires a reliable real-time communication network. The system have various functions, diagnostics, passenger informations, and fault-tolerant controls. For this system, an international standard called TCN(Train Communication Network) is proposed by IEC and the train industries. The TCN is composed of two layers, wire train bus(WTB) and multifunction vehicle bus(MVB). This paper evaluates the performance of the proposed WTB and modified WTB. And computer simulations are performed. The evaluated results can be used for the fault tolerant network in the railway train system.

  • The continuing need for more compact and reliable switching power supplies have aroused a renewed interest in a well founded control technique the Magnetic Amplifier(Magamp). Magamp have some advantages of higher power density, simple control circuit, good regulation, high frequency and high performance. The control method with magamp become attractive solutions for high current post regulated output applications. In this study, it is proposed that the magamp technique in flyback converters with multiple output windings. Operation principle of the proposed approach is described and design guidelines are provided. Experimental verifications on 50W multiple output flyback converter are conducted. Simulations and experimental results show that the proposed approach is high efficiency and voltage regulation of the auxiliary output is excellent.

  • The purpose of this study is to evaluate the viscosity and flowability of polymer-cement composites for repairing cracks of RC structures. The viscosity and flowability of the polymer cement composites differed greatly depending on the type of polymer and the polymer cement ratio, and the polymer cement composites could be produced that could repair fine cracks in the RC structure without material separation by adjusting the proper water-cement ratio. In particular, the mixing of high viscosity EVA-modified polymer composites could be adjusted.

  • In the present modern day, as the complexity and size of SoC(System on Chip) increase, the importance of design verification are increasing, Therefore it takes a lot of time to verify the design. There is an emerging need to manage the verification environment faster and more efficiently by reusing the existing verification environment. UVM-based verification is a standardized and highly reliable verification method widely adopted and used in the semiconductor industry. This paper presents a UVM-based verification for the 4 tap equalizer module with a systolic array structure. Through the constraints randomization, it was confirmed that various test scenarios stimulus were generated. In addition, by verifying a simulation comparing the actual DUT outputs with the MATLAB reference outputs, the reuse and efficiency of the UVM test bench could be confirmed.

  • Augmented Reality(AR) is one of branch of virtual reality computer graphics techiniques that places images of both the real environments and virtual graphic objects over the user's view of the world. Recently, useful apps are being developed using the AR techniques. We developed the location information service app by applying AR techniques. We used the open source 'Mixare' for AR application development for smartphones. This paper presents the design and development of the app 'Go-To-Hongdae~' that shows street views and related detailed information in real-time about buildings around our campus.
