Polyurethane foams (PUFs) were prepared from polymeric 4,4'-diphenylmethane diisocyanate (PMDI), mixed polyol with OH value of 480, silicone surfactant, three catalysts, and hydrofluorocarbon(HFC) as blowing agent. Balance (PC-8), gelling (33LV), and trimerization (TMR-2) catalysts were used. The effect of the catalysts on the physical properties of PUF with increase of isocyanate (NCO) index and aging time was investigated. The cell size of the PUF with PC-8 and 33LV slightly increased with an increase in NCO index from 100 to 170 but compressive strength did not change significantly. In case of trimerization catalyst, the compressive strength of PUF increased from 8.75 to 1$10.5 kg_f/cm^2$ and the cell size decreased with an increase in NCO index. The compressive strength of the PUF with 33LV increased from 9.21 to $10.15 kg_f/cm^2$ with an increase in aging time. However, there was no detectable change in the compressive strength of PUF with TMR-2. A possible interpretation of the results includes an additional cross-link reaction of non-reacted MDI and FTIR spectrum illustrated the change of NCO peak.
In developing soil wetting agent using polyoxyethylene nonylphenyl ether (PNE) and polyoxyethylene castor oil (1:1; v/v), the effect of application rates on changes in concentration of PNE, initial wetting of peatmoss + perlite (7:3) medium, and growth of hot pepper (Capsicum annuum L. 'Knockwang') plug seedlings were investigated. The elevation of application rates of wetting agent increased the amount of water retained by the root media. The treatment of 2.5 $mL{\cdot}L^{-1}$ showed similar water retention to + control ($AquaGro^L$ 3.0 $mL{\cdot}L^{-1}$). Most of the liquid wetting agent (LWA) incorporated during the medium formulation leached out in the first and second irrigation, then it decreased gradually until 10 times in irrigation. In investigation of the influence of LWA on position of water infiltrating into root media, the vertical water movements in treatments of 0.5, 1.0, and 1.5 $mL{\cdot}L^{-1}$ were much faster than those in 0.0 $mL{\cdot}L^{-1}$ (-control), but relative speed of water movement decreased by the elevation in application rate of LWA to 2.0 or 2.5 $mL{\cdot}L^{-1}$. The evaporative water loss of root media that to contained various rate of LWA and irrigated to reach container capacity was the fastest in -control among the treatments and it delayed as the application rate of LWA was elevated. The plant height of 22.2 cm in 0.5 $mL{\cdot}L^{-1}$ and stem diameter of 3.26 mm in 1.0 $mL{\cdot}L^{-1}$ were the highest among the treatments tested. The treatment of 1.0 $mL{\cdot}L^{-1}$ also had the heaviest fresh and dry weights such among treatments tested as 3.08 g and 0.861 g per plant, respectively. The elevated application rate over than 1.5 $mL{\cdot}L^{-1}$ resulted in decreased seedling growth. The results mentioned above indicate that optimum application rate of LWA is 1.0 $mL{\cdot}L^{-1}$.

The influence of different dilution procedures on the properties of oil-in-water (O/W) nano-emulsions obtained by dilution of oil-in-ethanol (O/E) microemulsions with water has been studied. The system water/ethanol/nonionic surfactant/silicone oil with ethanol was chosen as model system. The dilution procedures consisted of adding water (or microemulsion) stepwise. By mixing O/E microemulsions into water, nano-emulsions with droplet diameters of 30 nm were obtained. In contrast, by mixing water into O/E microemulsion, emulsions with diameter of 400 nm were obtained The dilution methods were shown to be a key factor determining the properties of the emulsions. There were no change in diameters of nanoemulsion droplets against time, however sizes of droplets in the emulsion with larger droplets were increased with time and the mechanism of unstability was thought to be Ostwald ripening.
The optimal operation conditions of electrofloatation for oil-water separation of soil flushing effluent including electrolyte and pH were investigated. The reactor (200 ${\times}$ 10 ${\times}$ 15 cm) for the experiment was constructed by using acrylic plate. Diesel concentration was 1,000 mg/L in the 1 % mixed surfactant solution ($POE_5$: $POE_{14}$ 1: 1). Titanium coated electrode was used as cathode and stainless steel electrode as anode. Reaction time was 62 minutes (reaction time: 60 min., flotation time: 2 min.) and voltage was 6 V. The separation efficiency of electrofloatation was improved to 40% by electrolyte addition. Furthermore, NaCl (1N) added as electrolyte was showed enhanced efficiency compared to NaOH (1N). While, the effect of both NaCl and NaOH was sequentially increased in the range of 0.2∼1.0% (0.02∼0.1 M). The equilibrium time was found as 20 min. in the range of 0.4∼1.0% (0.04∼0.1M) for both of them.

In this study, a new method is presented to produce stable hydrophobic metal alloy nanocluster in chloroform solution including surfactant NaAOT(sodium bis(2-ethylhexyl)-sulfosuccinate) via the chemical reduction of metal salt $(HAuCl_4,\AgNO_3,\Cu(NO_3)_2)$ by sodium borohydride. For the alloy nanocluster, several samples were prepared by changing the molar ratio of Au/Cu, Au/Ag alloy nanocluster, 3:1, 1:1, 1:3. The alloy nanoclusters were characterized by UV-Visible spectrophotometer, TEM(Transmission Electron Microscope), and XPS(X-ray Photoelectron Spectrometer). With the change of the mole ratio of the alloy component, the wavelengths of the surface plasmon absorption shift linearly from 520 nm of the pure Au nanocluster to 570 nm of the pure Cu nanocluster for Au/Cu alloy nanoclusters and from 405 nm to 520 nm for Au/Ag alloy nanoclusters. The chemical shifts of the Au4f, Ag3d, Cu2p XPS peaks were observed with changing the molar ratio of the alloy element. The alloy nanoclusters in chloroform solution were made uniformly in size and colloidally stable for long periods of time. These results indicate that the method here is a very effective method for synthesizing hydrophobic alloy nanoclusters with uniform or nearly uniform particle size distribution.
The powder preparation by using emulsion drying method, one of the chemical powder fabrication methods has the advantages; easy to control the chemical stoichiometry and to fabricate homogeneously fine particles. In the present study, the initial morphology and size distribution of the powder fabricated by using emulsion dry-ing method were controlled and were improved the homogeneity. By carefully controlling the mixing ratio of oil phase and aqueous solution and surfactant of preventing emulsion separation, the Bi(Pb)-Sr-Ca-Cu-O su-perconducting powders were prepared. The properties of the superconducting powder fabricated by this method and the microstructures and superconducting properties of the pelletized samples were investigated. The microstructures and electric properties of the tapes prepared by oxide powder-in-tube method were in-vestigated. The fabricated powder was spherical with less than 1$\mu$m but most of them was agglomerated with 2~5$\mu$m in size. The critical temperature of the pelletized sample annealed at 84$0^{\circ}C$ for 72 hours in oxygen par-tial pressure of 1/13atm in Ar atmosphere was 108K. And the critical current of the first and second annealed tapes in air prepared by oxide powder-in-tube process were 0.4A and 1.5A, respectively.
Diglyceride was prepared by reaction of hydrogenated beef tallow and glycerol (GL) in the presence of a Pseudomonas lipase. Both substrates were mixed at the ratio of GL/Triglyceride of 0.5 which is the stoichiometric molar ratio for the complete conversion of triglyceride (TG) to diglyceride (DG). DG can be obtained by solid phase-glycerolysis of hydrogenated beef tallow without use of organic solvents or emulsifiers by careful control of reaction temperature. Optimized reaction temperature condition was as follows: An initial incubation at$60^{\circ}C$ for 2h followed by the first temperature shift down to $55^{\circ}C$ for 4h, and then the second shift down to $50^{\circ}C$ for up to 3 days. There was a large decrease in the content of TG during the first $60^{\circ}C$ incubation for 2h. Even a prolonged incubation at $60^{\circ}C$ could not make a change of the composition of the reaction mixture at liquid state. By controlling the temperature lower than $60^{\circ}C$, reaction mixtures were solidified. The reaction temperature at $50^{\circ}C$ below the melting temperature of hydrogenaed beef tallow gave an 71% optimum yield of DG after 72h enzymatic glycerolysis and about 73% of total DG was 1,3-DG.

The pre-concentration and determination of ultratrace arsenic in water samples was studied by the precipitate flotation technique. The arsenic in 1.0l of water sample, in which all suspended materials were filtered out, was coprecipitated together with La(OH)$_3$ precipitates at pH 8.5${\pm}$0.1. After the precipitate was made to be hydrophobic by adding mixed surfactant of 1 : 8 mole ratio of sodium oleate and sodium dodecyl sulfate, it was floated with the aid of tiny bubbles of nitrogen gas in a flotation cell. The floated precipitate was quantitatively collected on a micropore glass filter by the suction, dissolved with small volume of 1.0M sulfuric acid, and accurately diluted to 25.00ml with a de-ionized water. Total arsenic was spectrophotometrically determinated by forming silver diethyldithiocarbamate complex of arsine generated from arsenic in the concentrated solution. The calibration curve was linear up to 20ng/ml in the original solution. Analytical results showed that contents of arsenic in a campus wastewater and a river water were 8.2ng/ml and l.0ng/ml, respectively, and their recoveries were 93${\%}$ and 90${\%}$ in water samples which a given amount of arsenic was added into. From above result, it could be concluded that this method was applicable to the determination of arsenic in various kinds of water at low ng/ml levels.

The preferential transport phenomena of neutral cation-anion moieties in neutral macrocycle-facilitated emulsion liquid membrane were described in this study. Emulsion membrane systems consisting of (1) aqueous source phase containing 0.001M $M(NO_3)_2$ (M = $Mn^{2+}$, $Co^{2+}$, $Ni^{2+}$, $Cu^{2+}$, $Zn^{2+}$, $Sr^{2+}$, $Cd^{2+}$, $Pb^{2+}$) (2) a toluene membrane containing 0.02M ligand (DB$N_3O_2$, DB18C6) and the surfactant span 80 (sorbitan mono oleate) (3% v/v) and (3) aqueous receiving phase containing $Na_2S_2O_3$ or $NaNO_3$ were studied with respect to the disappearence of metal ions from the source phase as a function of time. Cation transport rates for various two component equimolar mixture of metal ions were determinded. $Cd^{2+}$ was transported higher rates than the other $M^{2+}$ in the mixture solution.
It has been reported that the LCD panel market in the FPD industry is become growing and its panel size and production capacity are increasing, and its manufacturing technique is improved every year. FPD manufacturing process requires high cleanliness in its overall process. Especially, FPD cleaning process which accounts for 30~40% of total manufacturing process is very important in its technological and productivity aspects. It is difficult to remove residual liquid-crystal in the fine gap after liquid-crystal injection process in the cell. In this study, aqueous cleaning agents with excellent cleaning, rinsing, and penetrating abilities, but minimum ion content for LCD panel were formulated through mixing glycol ether-type and glycol dimethyl ether-type solvents and nonionic surfactants which are widely used as raw materials for alternative cleaning agents because of environmental regulation at home and abroad. And the formulated cleaning agents were applied to clean FPD liquid crystal after its injection in the cell. Physical properties, cleaning efficiencies, and rinsabilities of the formulated cleaning agents with different combination ratios of solvents, surfactants and additives were measured. As experimental results, the formulated cleaning agents showed higher wetting indices and cloud point than the traditional commercial cleaning agent. And it was found that cleaning efficiencies of the formulated cleaning agents were influenced by the structure of main solvents in them and the types of liquid crystal as soil for cleaning. The best cleaning agents among the formulated cleaning agents showed similar cleaning efficiencies and better rinsabilities compared to the conventional cleaning agent.
