A Study on Characteristics of Exhaust Gas Emissions of Water-Bunker Oil Mixed by Homogenizer (균질기에 의해 혼합된 물-벙커유의 배기가스 배출 특성에 관한 연구)

  • In this study, we conducted a study on characteristics of exhaust gas emissions from boiler when water-bunker oil mixed by homogenizer was burned in boiler. The results showed that NOx concentration and CO concentration of the homogenized bunker oil was decreased by 19% and 54% compared to pure bunker oil pretreatment was not being performed. And, in the case of water-bunker A oil, the NOx concentration was decreased with increasing water mixing ratio in bunker A oil. In particular, the NOx concentration in exhaust gas of 20 %water-80 %bunker A oil decrease by 45 % compared with pure bunker-A. However, the CO concentration in exhaust gas of 20 %water-80 %bunker A oil shows irregular changes. This means that the mixing of water more than a certain amount can cause a decrease in combustion performance. From this result, it can be found that critical mixing ratio of water in bunker A oil for normal combustion is 15% in this study. Deposition amount of soot that is collected in the vicinity of the chimney was decreased with increasing water mixing ratio.

Potential of Coal Gasification Slag as an Alkali-activated Cement (석탄가스화 복합발전 슬래그의 알칼리 활성 시멘트로서의 가능성)

  • Integrated gasification combined cycle (IGCC) is a next generation energy production technology that converts coal into syngas with enhanced power generation efficiency and environmental performance. IGCC produces almost coal gasification slag as the solid by-product. IGCC slag is generated about 140,000 tons for a year although recycling of it is still in the early stages. We evaluated the potential of IGCC slag which is generated from a pilot plant in South Korea as an alkali-activated cement. Samples which were activated with the combined activator of sodium silicate solution and caustic soda had an average compressive strength of 4.5 MPa, showing expansion. Expansion of the alkali-activated slag was presumed to be caused by free CaO in the slag, although it was not detected by the ethylene glycol method. Samples that were activated with the combined activator of sodium aluminate and caustic soda had an average compressive strength of 10 MPa. Hydroxy sodalite and $C_3AH_6$ were found to be the new crystalline phases. IGCC slag can be used as an alkali-activated material, but the strength performance should be improved with proper mix design approach to calculate optimum proportions which can alleviate the expansion issue at the same time.

Foundation Properties of Cement Mortar in the Use of Fine Aggregate of Coal Gasification Slag (석탄가스화 용융슬래그를 잔골재로 활용하는 시멘트 모르타르의 기초적 특성)

  • This study evaluated the properties of Coal gasification slag(CGS) according to the CGS contents of cement mortar condition as a basic step to examine the applicability of CGS as concrete fine aggregate. Flow increased with increasing CGS contents for both Crushed sand a(CSa) and Crushed sand b+Sea sand(CSb+SS), but the amount of air contents decreased to the opposite tendency. Based on 28 days is maximum compressive strength was obtained at CGS 50% when CSa was used and CGS 75% when CSb+SS. The flexural strength were the maximum at 25% and 50% of CGS, but the tendency was similar to the compressive strength. Compared with CSa, the compressive strength and flexural strength 5% higher than those of CSb+SS, in CGS using of were about 5% higher than those of unused CGS. As a result of comprehensive study on the quality of mortar according to the CGS contents, it can be concluded that when CGS is mixed with fine aggregate at about 50%, it can contribute to securing workability and strength development positively so that resource recycling and quality improvement can be achieved at the same time.

A Study on Syngas Co-Combustion Characteristics in a 0.7 MWth Water-Tube Boiler with Single Heavy Oil Burner (중유 싱글 버너 수관식 보일러에서의 합성가스 혼합연소 특성 연구)

  • This study is aimed to investigate changes of combustion characteristics and heat efficiency when syngas from gasification process using low-rank fuel such as waste and/or biomass is applied partially to an industrial boiler. An experimental study on syngas co-combustion was performed in a 0.7 MW (1 ton steam/hr) water tube boiler using heavy oil as a main fuel. Three kinds of syngas were used as an alternative fuel: mixture gas of pure carbon monoxide and hydrogen, syngas of low calorific value generated from an air-blown gasification process, and syngas of high calorific value produced from an oxygen-blown gasification process. Effects of co-combustion ratio (0~20%) for each syngas on flue gas composition were investigated through syngas injection through the nozzles installed in the side wall of the boiler and measuring $O_2$, $CO_2$, CO and NOx concentrations in the flue gas. When syngas co-combustion was applied, injected syngas was observed to be burned completely and NOx concentration was decreased because nitrogen-containing-heavy oil was partially replaced by the syngas. However, heat efficiency of the boiler was observed to be decreased due to inert compounds in the syngas and the more significant decrease was found when syngas of lower calorific value was used. However, the decrease of the efficiency was under 10% of the heat replacement by syngas.

  • Recently, gas turbines for power generation adopt multistage DLN(Dry Low NOx) type combustion, where diffusion combustion is applied at low load and, with increase in load, the combustion mode is changed to lean premixed combustion to reduce NOx emissive concentration. However, during the mode changeover from diffusion to premixed flame, unfavorable phenomena, such as flashback, high amplitude combustion oscillations, or thermal damage of combustor parts could frequently occur. In the present study, to apply for the analysis of such unfavorable phenomena, three-dimensional CFD investigations are carried out to compare the detailed flow characteristics and temperature distribution inside the gas turbine combustor before and after combustion mode changeover. The fuel considered here is pure methane gas. A standard $k-{\varepsilon}$ turbulence model with wall function and a P-N type radiation heat transfer model, have been utilized. To analyze the complex geometric effects of combustor parts on combustion characteristics, fuel nozzles, a swirl vane f3r fuel-air mixing, and cooling air holes on the combustor liner wall, are included in this simulation.

Development of hydrogen-oxygen mixed gas torch for joining of vacuum glazing (진공유리 접합을 위한 수소-산소 혼합가스 토치 개발)

  • Efficient energy use becomes necessary since energy consumption has dramatically been increasing due to continuous economic development and population growth. In particular, high efficient vacuum glazing needs to be introduced to buildings where enormous energy loss occurs through windows and has been rarely used yet due to its high price and performance. Therefore, in this study, torch for glass welding was developed with CFD(Computational Fluid Dynamics) and experiments. Torch shape, nozzle diameter, nozzle arrangement etc. were mainly optimized and hydrogen-oxygen mixed gas fuels the torch. Finally, glass welding with the developed torch has been successful, showing that it can be used to develop economic vacuum glazing.

  • An experimental study of the flame response in a turbulent premixed combustor has been conducted in order to investigate mechanisms for combustion instabilities in a lean premixed gas turbine combustor. A lab-scale combustor and mixing section system were fabricated to measure the flame transfer function. Measurements are made of the velocity fluctuation in the nozzle using hot wire anemometry and of the heat release fluctuation in the combustor using chemiluminescence emission. The results show that the flame transfer functions are greatly dependent on the modulation frequency as well as operating conditions such as equivalence ratio. Flame dynamics can be generalized as a function of Strouhal number which is a ratio of flame length to modulation wave length.

  • CMC(Ceramic Matrix Composites)는 $1500^{\circ}C$ 이상의 고온에서 내열성, 내산화성, 내식성이 우수하여, 초음속 비행체, 가스터빈 엔진 및 원자로용 초고온 부품 등에 수요가 증가하고 있다. 하지만 이러한 특성은 비산소 환경에 국한되는 것으로 약 $400^{\circ}C$ 이상의 산화 분위기에는 탄소섬유가 산화되는 문제로 인하여 적용의 한계를 가지고 있다. 따라서 CMC의 적용범위 확대를 위하여 내산화 코팅으로 CMC의 초고온 산화특성을 개선하는 것이 필수적이며, 장시간 초고온 산화환경 분위기에서 사용되기 위하여 안정적인 코팅기술이 최근 기술개발의 핵심현안으로 부각되고 있다. 본 연구에서는 pack cementation 공정을 이용하여 내산화성이 우수한 SiC 코팅층을 제조하였다. Pack cementation 공정에 사용된 코팅 분말은 57wt.% SiC, 30wt.% Si, 3wt.% B, 10wt.% Al2O3의 비율로 혼합된 것이다. 실험은 3D 직조된 CMC 모재를 혼합분말 내에 침적한 후, Ar 분위기에서 $1600^{\circ}C$, 4~12시간 반응시켜 수 마이크론 두께의 SiC 코팅층을 형성하였다. 더 우수한 산화 특성을 부여하기 위하여 pack 처리된 CMC 표면에 초고온 세라믹인 TaC 소재를 진공플라즈마 코팅 공정으로 적층시켰다. 제조된 코팅층을 SEM, XRD를 이용하여 미세구조 및 결정구조를 분석하였으며, pack cementation에 따른 내산화 특성을 비교 분석하고자 $2000^{\circ}C$에서 산화 실험을 진행하였다. 산화 실험 이후 미세구조 및 결정구조 분석으로 산화거동을 규명하고자 하였다.

  • 균일한 positive column의 상세한 이론이 충돌 단면적 곡선과 공진 방사 그리고 다단계 여기(multistage)와 이온화 과정을 고려하여 0.5에서 5mmHg 압력에서 수은과 희유가스(rare-gas)가 혼합되어 있는 D.C.형광 램프 방전에 대해 전개된다. 온도와 이온, 비여기원자, 여기원자의 밀도가 수치해석에 의하여 계산된다.

대출력 엑사이머 레이저의 개발

  • 방전여기 엑사이머 레이저의 방전특성을 해석하기 위하여 레이저 발진 장치를 개발, 실험을 하였다. 실험결과 가스혼합비 Kr/F2/He=4/0.2/05.8%, 총기압 2기압, 가압전압 30kV에서 최대출력 80mj, 가압 전압 20kV에서 최대효율 0.5%를 얻었다. 또한 대출력, 고효율화를 위하여 실험조건과 동일하게 방전특성을 해석한 결과 레이저 방전관 부의 저항값과 인덕턴스가 적을수록 레이저 방전관에 입력하는 에너지가 커지므로 이들의 값을 적게 히여야만 대축력 꾀할 수 있음을 알 수 있었다.
