Light intensities under and above shading material were measured at different layers (upper, middle and lower layers) and lines (lst, 3rd and 5th lines) on clear and cloudy days in S-year-old ginseng plant populations. Rates of photosynthesis and respiration were also measured in field. Light intensities of the 1st lines at upper and lower layers were relatively high as compared with the 3rd and the 5th lines, and there were no remarkable difference between the 3rd and the 5th line. But in middle layer, the light intensity of each line differed considerably. As compared with fair and clear day, the day of clear but much diffuse light showed high light intensity under shading. Relative light intensity was higher on cloudy day than on clear day. There were notable differences of photosynthetic rates among the lines and the rearest lines exhibited the lowest rates. But it was not considered that even the front plants demonstrated the maximum photosynthetic capacity.

Pneumocystis carinii pneumonia is an infectious disease which is highly prevalent in the group of immunosuppressed patients, particularly with hematologic tumors as lymphomas and acquired immune deficiency syndrome(AIDS), severe malnutrition, organ transplantations, high dose corticosteroid therapy. Some cases of Pneumocystis carinii pneumonia in infants with primary immune deficiency were already reported. The authors present a case of Pneumocystis carinii pneumonia developed in an infant who suffered from 10 days of poor feeding and failure to thrive and not included in the risk groups listed above. He had bilateral interstitial infiltrations on the chest radiography, diagnosed as Pneumocystis carinii pneumonia after Gomori-methenamine silver staining of his sputum that was taken through tracheal intubation. He improved after administering Trimethoprim-sulfamethoxazole for 14 days.

In a 40 year-old man who has complained of epigastric pain and dyspnea for 10 days including melena for 1 month, abdominal ultrasonography and computerized tomography revealed a large, solid mass in the right kidney and thrombus of inferior vena cava (IVC) that extended to the cavoatrial junction. Renal cell carcinoma was performed by percutaneous needle biopsy. IVC thromboembolectomy was performed using centrifugal pump driven venovenous bypass without cardiac arrest and cardiopulmonary bypass (CPB).

The records of 28 patients with traumatic diaphragmatic injuries seen at Masan Samsung Hospital from march 1986 o March 1995 were reviewed. We treated 21 male and 7 female patients ranging in ages from 5 to 68 years. Thc diaphragimatic injuries were due to blunt trauma in'20 cases(Trawc accident 18, compression injury 1, Human trauma 1) and penetrating injuries 8 cases (all stab wound). Most common symptoms were dyspnea 27 (96%), chest pain 26 (93%), abdomianl pain 8 (29%), comatose mentality 36 (11 %). Chest X-ray were elevated diaphragm in 20 cases(71%) find hemothorax in 18 cases (64%) and 25 cascs (89%) were diagnosed or suspected as diaphragmatic inju,rims prcopcrativcly. The repair of 28 cases were performed with thoracic approach in 20 cases, abdominal approach 7, thoracoabdominal approach in 1 cases. There were 5 death (18%) and all death related to the severity of associated injury. (hypovolcmic shock 3, combined head injury 1, renal failure 1).

하인두암은 거의 대부분 이상동(Pyriform Sinus) 에서 발생하며 상당한 정도 진행 시까지 별다른 증상을 나타내지 않는다. 저자들은 1966년부터 1985년까지 만 20년간 하인두에서 발생된 암환자 63명을 중심으로 임상 관찰 및 문헌고찰과 함께 발표하는바이다. 원발병소로는 전체 중 58명에서 이상동, 하인두벽(hypopharyngeal wall) 3명, Postcricoid hypopharynx 와 pharyngopalatine fold 에서 각각 1명씩의 발생빈도를 보였다. 저자들은 설저(base of tongue)암, supraglottic Ca. 및 경부 식도(cervical esophagus)암 경우는 모두 제외시켰다. 임상증상으로서는 경부 종괴(lump)가 33 예로써 가장 현저했으며 또한 첫증상으로써 연하곤란(dysphagia) 또는 sore throat를 나타낸 경우는 32 예 이었다. 그 외에 hoarseness 가 20 예, bloody sputum 4 례 및 호흡곤란 2 예의 순이었다. 내원까지의 증상기간은 대부분 $4{\sim}6$ 개월 이었다. 흡연관계는 1일 1값 이상의 중등도 흡연 경우는 전체의 58% 이었으며 흡연 사실이 있었던 경우는 전체의 88% 이었다. 연령별 발생빈도는 50대$\sim$60대에서 48명으로서 현저히 높았다. 완치 목적의 수술적 치료는 24명에서 시행하였으며 치료 거절은 16명이었다. 치료 거절하였던 환자들 중 81% 가 임상적 제 4 병기였으며 보조적 치료 요법을 실시한 환자들의 78% 에서 제 4 병기였다. 또한 완치 목적의 치료 실시 경우의 67% 에서 제 4 병기였다. 수술요법은 일반적으로 "후두 인두 적출술 및 양측 경정맥 임파군 곽청술"(laryngopharyngectomy with bilateral jugular dissection) 또는 후두 인두 적출술 및 동측의 표준 광범위 경부 곽청술(standard radical neck dissection) 과 반대측의 경정맥 임파군 곽청술을 시행하였다. 3 년 이내와 3 년 이상무병 상태(free of disease) 경우가 각각 4명씩이었다. 마지막 예후 추적 조사시까지 무병 상태였던 환자를 포함하여 예후 추적 조사기간 중 추적 실패 경우는 7명이었다. 확정된 3 년 생존율(determinate 3-year survival rate) 은 31% 이었다. 수술 사망이 1명 있었으며 재발경우는 9 명이었다. 재발부위로는 원발병소 재발이 7명, 경부 재발 1명 및 원격전이가 1명 이었으며, 저자들은 이에 대한 실패 원인을 규명코져 하였다.

Effect of the thickness of low density polyethylene(LDPE) Film as packaging material on changes in physicochemical characteristics of mature-green mume (Prunus mume Sieb. et Zucc) fruits during storage at different temperatures(0, 10 and 25$\^{C}$) were investigated. Fruit samples stored in pouches with 30㎛ thickness of LDPE film maintained well not only external qualities such as Shape and firmness, but also internal chemical properties such as pH, acidity, the content of soluble solid and chlorophyll, and color, comparing with samples stored without packaging material or in other pouches with different film thickness(20 and 40㎛). From the results, it was found that the maintenance of quality of mature-green mume fruits during storage at 0, 10 and 25$\^{C}$ closely related to the changes in respiratory conditions for fruits affected by the film thickness of the packaging material.

Studies were carried out to investigate the diapause-sensitive stage, the effect of 20-hydroxye- cdysone on diapausing pupae and the changes in pupal proteins of the fitll webworm, HYPha¬ntria cunea Drury. The stage sensitive to diapause-inducing photoperiod lies between 5th and 15th day of the larval development. And the oxygen consumption rate of diapausebound pupae decreased to a mean level of $30mu$l $O_{2}$/g/hr. The 20-hydroxyecdysone was effective in raising the respiratory acivity of 2.5% homogenate of the diapausing fall webworm pupae and in causing a normal adult development of the diapause-bound pupae. The soluble protein content rapidly declined in normally-developing pupae, but in diapause-bound pupae it was more or less static with much higher quantity. And protein bands separated from fat body of diapause¬bound pupae were different from those of nondiapausing pupae.

In this paper want to recognize competition and cooperation as a non-contact sensing method among the social emotion that are caused by interaction. Experiments were conducted in a pattern matching task divided into competition and cooperation situations. Data collection was performed by extracting the micro-movement data of 15Hz component from the upper body image. We compared and analyzed the amount and the variation and synchronization. As a result, Amount and variation are bigger in competition than cooperation. Synchronization was higher in cooperation than competition. This can be seen as the difference between two people trying to win when they are in competition and trying to breathe each other in cooperation. This study is significant in confirming the possibility of competition and cooperation through non contact sensing method based on physiological response.

The degradation of fungicide oxadixyl in soil amended with manure, chemical fertilizers, heavy metals and detergent was studied. The degradation of oxadixyl in the soil was slow, but became to be fast after the lag phase of about 14 days. The half-life was 10.5 days. The degradation rate was accelerated largely by the amendment of manure. Potassium also promoted the degradation rate but nitrogen and phosphate did not. The heavy metals inhibited the degradation rate, in order of Ni, Cd, Cr, Cu, and Zn. The degradation rate was declined greatly with the addition of synthetic detergent. The microbial biomass and the respiration rate in the soil were increased by the amendment of manure and chemical fertilizers, but decreased by the addition of heavy metals and cleaner. The degradation rate of oxadixyl was positively correlated with the microbial biomass and the respiration rate.

A 57-year-old man with dyspnea was transferred to our institution. Echocardiography demonstrated grade III aortic valve regurgitation with a bicuspid aortic valve. The preoperative coronary angiography showed a left single nary artery. Replacement of the aortic valve was performed. Ventricular fibrillation developed during weaning patient of cardiopulmonary bypass after aortotomy repair. An anomalous origin of the coronary arteries is an incidental finding. However, in patients who are undergoing aortic valve replacement, a can significantly complicate the procedure. If this is present, then it is imperative that the clearly identified and the required procedure should be modified to avoid injury to these.
