Investigating the Structural Relationships among Hospitality Industry Employee's Job Resources, Burnout, Depersonalization, and Customer Orientation (환대산업 종사원의 직무자원이 감정고갈, 비인격화 및 고객지향성에 미치는 영향 -서울지역 특1급 호텔 중심으로-)

  • This study aims to research on the relationship between job resources, symptoms of burnout, and depersonalization and its impact on the customer orientation. Using data from hotel frontline employees of Seoul in Korea, it seeks to investigate the mediating effects of burnout symptoms and depersonalization to the relationships between job resources and customer orientation. Data was analyzed using Structural Equations Modeling (SEM) by of AMOS program. The research advances understanding of the relationships between job resources, emotional exhaustion, depersonalization as a situational personality trait and the FLE customer orientation in five deluxe star hotel environment. The findings highlight the value of burnout and depersonalization, and suggest a number of practical implications for the identification, recruitment and retention of hotel employees.

The Effect of Organizational Justice on Customer Orientation Moderating Effect of Employment Type (조직공정성이 고객지향성에 미치는 영향 -호텔기업의 고용형태를 조절효과로-)

  • The purpose of this study is to examine the relationship between customer orientation and organizational justice in hotel industry. Data were collected from employees who are working in the hotels of Seoul, South Korea and total 321 was used in data analysis. As a result of multiple regression analysis, the distributive justice and interactional justice had a positive effect on the customer orientation. However, the procedural justice had no effect on the customer orientation. Moreover, the type of employee moderates the effect between distributive and procedural justice and customer orientation, but, there was no significant moderated effect of employment type between the interactive justice and the customer orientation.

  • This study attempted to show the importance of trust in a leader by empirically analyzing the relationship between transformational and transactional leadership, organizational effectiveness and trust in a leader. Four hypotheses were formulated and a survey was conducted to examine employees working in hotels in order to verify the hypotheses. Based on the data, leadership, trust in a leader, its relation with organizational effectiveness, and the mediating role of trust in a leader of a hotel were analyzed. The results showed that trust affects the partial mediating or the perfect mediating between leadership and organizational effectiveness. It is hoped that the result of this study will contribute to the development of leadership in the hotel industries in the future.

The Effects of Transformational Leadership on Employees Job Satisfaction & Organizational Identification in Korean Hotel Industry (호텔기업 종사원의 변혁적 리더십이 직무만족과 조직 동일시에 미치는 영향에 관한 연구)

  • This study analyzed the structural elements of transformational leadership on hotel employees job satisfaction and organizational identification, and inquired into how moderating variables such as demographical characteristics and the features of hotels affect transformational leadership. The ultimate purpose of this study was to provide managerial implications to hotel business operators and hotel employees. The main results of this study are as follows; According to the result of factor analysis on transformational leadership and hotel employees job satisfaction, 18 variables were derived as two factors 'obliging leadership' & 'vision leadership' factor in the area of transformational leadership, and 31 variables were derived as four factors 'welfare and work environment', 'ability display and job stability', 'colleague relationship and job performance' and 'company policy' factor. Second, stepwise regression analysis on whether the type of transformational leadership at hotels has a significant effect on employees job satisfaction & organizational identification, 'vision leadership' and job satisfaction and the both 'vision leadership' & 'obliging leadership' among the types of transformational leadership appeared to have a significant effect on hotel employees organizational identification. Third, One-Way ANOVA and t-test in order to examine significant difference in the type of transformational leadership according to demographical characteristics and general characteristics, statistically significant difference was found according to income level, the current position, work experience, the type of hotel operation and the experience of job change.
