This study investigates the current state of online research guides of the national archives of four countries including the UK, the USA, Australia, and Korea. It also analyzes the name and accessibility, subject coverage and categorization, number of guides completed, and structure and types of resources linked with each guide. The examined online research guides are evaluated based on accessibility, variety, systematization, consistency, and hyperlinks. Based on the analyses, it suggests the directions of designing research guides for the National Archives of Korea.

Many archives, including the National Archives of Korea, use online finding aids. However, in many aspects, they need improvement. In this study, with focus on the National Archives of Korea, the online finding aids of the National Archives of Australia (NAA), The National Archives (TNA) of United Kingdom, and the National Archives and Records Administration (NARA) of the United States were analyzed. Focus group interview was administered to users of the archives, identifying the pros and cons of online finding aids of NAA, TNA, and NARA. Based on the results, various improvement and development directions are suggested, including aspects on overall functions and hierarchical search, search options and subject search, representing search results, and archival contents services.

The work environment that produces and preserves records is changing in the digital transformation era, going beyond the new technologies of the Fourth Industrial Revolution. The electronic records management strategy in the archives must be prepared according to the technology, policy, and environmental changes related to overall records management of the era. Based on this, the basic environment in which the public can access records can be created by preserving the value of records. This study analyzes the direction of changes and strategies of records management in the digital environment and the direction of electronic records management strategies of the National Archives & Records Administration (NARA) in the United States, the National Archives of Australia (NAA), and the National Archives of Korea (NAK). Based on the analysis, the study suggests policies, facilities, and personnel elements as the core of the national electronic records management strategy and direction in the digital era.

Appraisal is one of the most important record management tasks. Appraisal is the process of evaluating business activities to determine which records need to be captured and how long the records need to be kept to meet business, the requirements of organizational accountability and community expectations. Appraisal, therefore, is concerned with deciding both what records should be created to document a business activity and how long those records should be retained. This paper attempts to review the appraisal policies of four national archives in UK, USA, Canada, Australia, which have managed public records systematically and to compare appraisal policies in the following five parts such as 1) purpose, 2) appraisal objectives, 3) appraisal values, 4) procedures for appraisal, and 5) special considerations. Finally, the paper suggests the important items required when the Korean National Archives and Records Services develops their own appraisal policies.

This study aims to analyze the distribution of authorities and responsibilities (ARs) to appraise public records, especially between national archives and central or federal government institutions. For this study, archives acts and policies of Britain, the USA, Canada, and Australia were selected for analysis. After attempts in reviewing the laws and policies governing ARs of appraisal and disposition, their level of concentration were investigated and compared. The analysis shows that the ARs to determine and approve which records have archival value and what are to be transferred to archives are mainly located in the national archives. In comparison, it is common that the national archives and government institutions share ARs in identifying the public records and in preparing and approving the disposal authorities. Furthermore, it identifies that the ARs can be distinguished by individual appraisal activities and expects to be used to discuss the ARs to appraise public records in Korea.

Archival description in archives has an important role in document control and reference service. Archives has made an effort to do archival description. But we have some differences and problems about a theory and practical processes comparing with advanced countries. The serious difference in a theory is that a function classification, maintenance of an original order, arrangement of multi-level description are not reflected in practical process. they are arranged in shelves after they are arranged by registration order in a unit of a volume like an arrangement of book. In addition, there are problems in history of agency change or control of index. So these can cause inconvenience for users. For improving, in this study we introduced the meaning and importance of arrangement of description, the situation and problem of arrangement of description in The National Archives, and a description guideline in other foreign countries. The next is an example for ISAD(G). This paper has chapter 8, the chapter 1 is introduction, the chapter 2 is the meaning and importance of arrangement of description, excluding the chapter 8 is conclusion we can say like this from the chapter 3 to the chapter 7. In the chapter 3, we explain GOVT we are using now and description element category in situation and problem of arrangement of description in Archives. In the chapter 4, this is about guideline from Archives in U.S.A, England and Australia. 1. Lifecycle Date Requirement Guide from NARA is introduced and of the description field, the way of the description about just one title element is introduced. 2. This is about the guideline of the description from Public Record Office. That name is National Archives Cataloguing Guidelines Introduction. We are saying "PROCAT" from this guideline and the seven procedure of description. 3. This is about Commomon Record Series from National Archives of Australia. we studied Registration & description procedures for CRS system. In the chapter 5, This is about the example which applied ISAD to. Archives introduce description of documents produced from Appeals Commission in the Ministry of Government Administration. In the chapter 6, 7. These are about the problems we pointed after using ISAD, naming for the document at procedure section in every institution, the lack of description fields category, the sort or classification of the kind or form, the reference or identified number, the absence description rule about the details, function classification, multi-level description, input format, arrangement of book shelf, authority control. The plan for improving are that problems. The best way for arrangement and description in Archives is to examine the standard, guideline, manual from archives in the advanced countries. So we suggested we need many research and study about this in the academic field.

Vulpia octoflora (Walter) Rydb.가 경기도 여주시 강천리 일대에서 발견되었다. 본 종은 북아메리카 원산으로 알려져 있으며, 최근 호주와 일본, 우크라이나에서 침입외래식물로 보고된 바 있다. V. octoflora는 주로 건조한 건조한 모래나 자갈 모래밭에 자라는 잡초성 식물로, 도로변을 따라 개방된 지역이나 인위적 교란 지역에서 빈번하게 발견된다. 학자에 따라 북아메리카 지역에 분포하는 개체들의 지리적 분포와 형태 변이를 근거로 종하분류군으로 세분화하기도 하지만, 형태 변이의 일관성 부족으로 인해 종내 변이로 인식하여 통합하여 처리하는 것이 타당하게 여겨진다. 본 종은 최근에 국내에 보고된 침입외래식물인 들묵새아재비와 유사하나, 소수당 달리는 소화의 수가 더 많고, 호영 정단부의 까락의 길이가 짧은 것으로 명확히 구분된다. 좀들묵새에 대한 생태계 위해성 연구는 진행된 바 없으나, 최초 발견지인 여주시 강천섬 일대는 멸종위기 2등급종인 단양쑥부쟁이의 자생지이기 때문에, 새롭게 유입된 외래식물의 잠재적 생태 교란에 따른 위해성 평가 및 확산 방지를 위한 모니터링이 필요할 것으로 여겨진다. 본 연구에서는 주요 형질에 대한 기재와, 지리적 분포, 도해도, 화상자료와 국내에 분포하는 동속 분류군과의 검색표를 제공하고자 한다.

This article focuses on analyzing the cases of on-line archival contents services of the national archives' web-sites and explaining their types and characteristics. This study defines the concept of on-line archival contents services through literature review. Then, it examines the cases of on-line archival contents provided by web-sites of the USA, the UK, Australian and Korean national archives. The types of on-line archival contents services are classified in accordance with the main purpose of use, the structure, and the way of interaction between contents and users. Lastly, it summarizes their structural and thematic characteristics by type and country.

Vulpia octoflora (Walter) Rydb., a newly identified invasive alien species, was found in Gangcheon-ri, Yeoju-si, Gyeonggi-do, South Korea. It is native to North America and has been reported to be an invasive alien plant in Japan, Australia, and Ukraine. Vulpia octoflora is a weed that grows mainly in dry sandy or rocky soil and is frequently found along the roadside in open areas or in artificially disturbed sites. This species is similar to the recently confirmed alert alien species, V. bromoides (L.) Gray, but is readily distinguishable due to more florets per spikelet and a short awn of the lemma. A detailed species description, the geographical distribution, illustrations, photographs, and an identification key for all species of Vulpia that occur in Korea are provided.

The purpose of this study is to analyze the style and the subject of the teaching kits published by the National Archives in the Australia, the USA. and the UK. The teaching kits-the educational document packets-made in printed format or PDF, HTML style are useful tools and better medium with which the national archives support classroom study and publicize the holdings of archives to students and teachers. Although subjects covered in the teaching kits vary slightly according to national circumstances, primary topics are history of nation and government, civil rights, immigration, war, events, culture, and records, etc. It is important to select the theme, find the related original records, and edit packets for students take much interest in.
