  • Although traffic signal installations are continuously expanding, the effect of preventing traffic accidents remains unverified. Totally, 7,045 traffic accident data (such as signal violations) registered with TCS were manually searched for a 7-year period from 2013 to 2019 for 1,602 traffic signals in Daejeon Metropolitan City. The top 20 traffic accident intersections were identified, the traffic accident investigation records and field maps were viewed to compare the driving direction and signal phase of the violated vehicle, and the cause of the traffic accident was divided into insufficient signal operation design (operation) and driver negligence (intentional). Results of the analysis revealed that 75% of traffic accidents occurred in thru-left-turn traffic signals and overlap; moreover, extending the yellow time or operating all red signals due to countermeasures against traffic accidents occurring in yellow signals resulted in reduced traffic accidents. Data indicated that Permissive Left Turn requires improvement with the signal operation. In addition, since The Korean National Police Agency is not computerized for traffic accident sites and signal-related data, the lack of manpower necessitates improvement and utilization of TCS when establishing traffic accident prevention measures. It is believed that it will contribute to signal operation by analyzing vast amounts of data collected in the field and presenting improvement measures.

  • 'Haepum' is a bacterial blight-resistant, medium maturing rice cultivar with high grain quality. It was derived from a cross between 'Iksan493' (cultivar name 'Jinbaek') and the F1 cross between 'Iksan495' ('Dacheong') and 'Iksan496' ('Jungmo1005'). Of these three cultivars, 'Jinbaek' is a bacterial blight-resistant mid-late maturing rice cultivar with high grain quality, 'Dacheong' is a mid-late maturing rice cultivar with multiple resistance to disease and insects, and 'Jungmo1005' is a mid-late maturing rice cultivar with lodging tolerance. To develop fixed lines, the anther culture method was applied to F1 plants. The cultivar 'Haepum' was selected using the pedigree method, yield trials, and local adaptability tests. The heading date of 'Haepum' was August 11th, three days earlier than that of 'Nampyeong' cultivar. Haepum' is a cultivar tolerant to lodging and it has short culms. Due to its low rate of viviparous germination, 'Haepum' could be useful for preventing pre-harvest sprouting in cultivation of medium maturing rice in the southern plain area of Korea. 'Haepum' carries two bacterial blight resistance genes (Xa3 and xa5), and in our study, it exhibited high-level and broad-spectrum resistance against bacterial blight, including K3a, the most virulent race in Korea. 'Haepum' is also resistant to the rice stripe virus and moderately resistant to rice blast. The yield of 'Haepum' was similar to that of 'Nampyeong'. 'Haepum' showed excellent grain appearance and good taste of cooked rice, and therefore it could contribute to the development of bacterial blight-resistant rice cultivars of improved quality. 'Haepum' would be suitable for cultivation in the southern plain area of Korea as well as in bacterial blight-prone areas. (Registration No. 6068)

  • Background: This study was performed to evaluate the effect of gastric cancer screening through analysis of screening-related data. Methods: We investigated claims data of gastric cancer from 2009 to 2015. We evaluated whether the screening was performed to prior to registration as patients with gastric cancer. The effect of gastric cancer screening was also analyzed by gender. Results: We collected total 196,293 patients with gastric cancer. 74% of them had previous experience of gastric cancer screening. In patients with screening, early gastric cancer was 33.4% and advanced gastric cancer was 17.3%. 22,548 (15.5%) patients were diagnosed with gastric cancer within 2 years after screening. In the case of patients without screening, early gastric cancer was 15.1% and advanced gastric cancer was 25.3%. In case of men, 76% of them confirmed gastric cancer through screening, and 70.2% of women confirmed the gastric cancer. In both men and women, the rate of early gastric cancer was higher among those with screening than those without screening. Conclusion: In this study, we were able to indirectly confirm the stage shift of gastric cancer screening. However, within 2 years after screening, not a few patients with gastric cancer were diagnosed. Therefore, more studies are warranted to in the future.

  • A new resistant cabbage variety 'CT-171' to Fusarium wilt was bred by crossing $A337MSBC_5$ with resistance to the disease and 397-$G_6$ with good density and color. 'CT-171' was selected after combining ability, seed gathering and regional adaptability test in 2008. For breeding of resistant varieties, we investigated the development of Fusarium wilt on cabbage seedlings inoculated with Fusariumoxysporum f. sp. conglutinans by root dipping inoculation method. As a result, 'CT-171' showed higher resistance to Fusarium wilt than 'Asiaball' used as control. The maturity of new variety was 58 days and was faster than control and well suited for autumn cultivation because of cold resistance. The anthocyanin pigment of plant was not revealed. The weight, height and width of head were 1.5 kg, 14 cm and 15 cm, respectively and the core size was 5.7 cm and stable in various cultivation environments. 'CT-171' which showed good agricultural character and resistance to Fusarium wilt filed for variety protect right in Korea Seed & Variety Service on February 2013. The new variety will be appropriate for export and domestic consumption.

  • The Korean Housing Lease Act is special law of Civil Code and was enacted from March 5, 1981 as Law No. 3379 to guarantee the stability of residential life. And until January 6, 2015 there were 15 times revisions to protect the right of homeless people. However, it is true that many problems are exposed from enforcement. Because the processing without sufficient review of legislation. and it was enacted very quickly, so, at the part of opposing power that the Article 3 Paragraph 1 "if the housing tenant was delivered rental housing and finish the resident registration, from the day after even if the owner of the house was changed as third party tenant can resist with lease right". In addition, this provision made housing problems of the socially disadvantaged more seriously and the country did not made any way to protect this problems so many issues have been raised and a lot of disputes relating to Housing Lease. Therefore, in this paper derives a problem about opposing power of the Housing Lease Act for tenants of residential stability, and through the foreign legislation case, it propose the improvement to contribute to the residential stability realistically.
