Estimation of Local Surface Temperature from EBM with the Use of GRID/GIS and Remote Sensed data (GRID/GIS 및 RS 자료를 이용한 에너지 평형 모형으로부터의 국지적 지표 온도 산출)

  • The mesoscale atmospheric models to produce surface temperature can not generally consider the effect of the sloped terrain for direct solar radiation. These have not showed the regional difference of solar radiation and as a result, have made the big error in the local surface temperature. Therefore, we wished to represent the exact locality of surface temperature by considering the geometric properties of surface as well as the vegetated properties of surface. The purpose of the study is to produce local surface ground temperature in sloped terrain diagnostically using surface Energy Balance Model (EBM) with the use of GRID model in Geographic Information Systems (GIS). In this study, surface inhomogeneity over southeastern part of Korean peninsula are considered in estimation of the absorbed surface solar radiation in terms of the illumination angle, depending on topographical aspect and slope in GRID. Also, the properties of vegetated surface which the major components for the variability of surface temperature are considered in terms of NDVI. The results of our study show the locally changes in the surface ground temperature due to local ground aspect and slope effect and local properties of vegetated surface. The more detailed distribution of local surface temperature may drive the local circulation at lower atmospheric and it may explain better the real local circulation.

Analyzing Expected Inflation Based on a Term Structure Model: A Case of Korea (이자율모형을 이용한 우리나라 기대인플레이션의 추정 및 특징)

  • This paper estimates and characterizes expected inflations using an affine term structure model based on the empirical stochastic process of the interest rates in Korea. The empirical results show that the expected inflation which marked above 4% before the global financial crisis has dampened and stabilized after the crisis. Moreover, we investigate the rationality of the various expected inflation measures in terms of the unbiasedness and efficiency and find that unbiasedness is not rejected across the all measures, while the efficiency cannot be empirically warranted. Besides, we run Granger causality tests and conclude that the expected inflations compiled from the Consensus, BOK-Expert have the cross-causality with the long-run actual inflation, while the expected inflation estimated from the term structure model has the cross-causality with the short-run actual inflation. These results connote that expected inflations collected from different sources and methods have their targets and horizons and the central bank needs to watch all of them with a balanced view instead of preferring one to the other.

A Study on Entrapment Efficiency of Rosmarinic Acid Using Liquid Crystal Phosphatidylcholin (포스파티딜콜린의 액정형성을 이용한 로즈마린산 포집 효율연구)

  • The liquid crystal form with phosphatidylcholine contents containing in the hydrogenated lecithin was confirmed. Composition ingredients of the liquid crystal vesicle were phospholipid, ethanol and water and the rosmarinic acid was encapsulated as index material. The mean particle size of the liquid crystal vesicle appeared to form various particles form 480 nm to $3{\mu}m$ depending upon the lipid composition and ultrasonic handling time. The liquid crystal vesicle compared with the liposome showed a very high encapsulation efficiency. The quantity of liquid crystal vesicle increased with respect to the increased quantity of lipid contents in the hydrogenated lecithin. The result from release experiments of the liquid crystal vesicle containing rosmarinic acid showed that the liquid crystal vesicle releases much less than that of liposome.

Relationships of Serum Leptin Levels with Bone Metabolism in the Childhood Obesity (소아 비만에서 Leptin과 골대사의 연관성)

  • Purpose: The aim of this study was to evaluate the influence of leptin on biochemical markers of bone metabolism in childhood obesity. Methods: A total of 50 male children (25 obese and 25 controls) were recruited from the pediatric outpatient clinic at the Chosun University Hospital from November 1st 2005 to May 30th 2006. BMI, body fat percentage, serum leptin, bone-specific alkaline phosphatase (B-ALP), C-terminal propeptide of type 1 collagen (CICP), total deoxypyridinoline crosslinks (total DPD) were measured. The correlations of leptin with BMI, body fat percentage, B-ALP, CICP, total DPD were analyzed by Pearson's correlation. In a multiple stepwise regression analysis, leptin after correction for body weight was evaluated if there was a correlation with biochemical markers of bone formation and resorption respectively. Results: The leptin levels of the obese group were significantly higher than those of the control group (p=0.012). In the obese group, the leptin level was significantly positively correlated with the BMI (r=0.551, p=0.01) and the percentage of body fat (r=0.584, p=0.018). In the obese group, of bone markers, B-ALP (r=-0.613, p=0.026) and CICP (r=-0.583, p=0.037) were negatively correlated with leptin. B-ALP (r=-0.728, p=0.007) and CICP (r=-0.684, p=0.014) were negatively correlated with leptin when corrected for body weight. In the control group, bone markers were not correlated with leptin. In the multiple stepwise regression analyses, there was a negative correlation between the leptin and B-ALP (Y=-39.653X+356.341, p=0.026), CICP (Y=-13.437X+ 116.013, p=0.037) respectively in the obese group. Conclusion: Leptin was a significant factor in the bone formation but not in bone resorption in childhood obesity.

Magma Pathway of Alkali Volcanic Rocks in Goseong, Gangwon-do, Korea (강원도 고성지역에 분포하는 알칼리 현무암질 마그마의 상승경로)

  • Miocene basalt plugs in Goseong contain a large variety of crustal and mantle xenoliths and xenocrysts. One of basalt plugs, Unbongsan, are derived from 160 km depth. Whole-rock geochemistry and pressure and temperature conditions of mineral phases indicate that Unbongsan volcanic rocks are alkali basalts and the source magma of the alkali basalts was generated from about $0.2{\sim}2%$ partial melting of depleted garnet peridotite. Crystallization pressures and temperatures of mineral phases within ascending magma of Unbongsan alkali basalt indicate that olivines, clinopyroxenes, and plagioclases were crystallized at $75{\sim}110km,\;40{\sim}52km,\;37{\sim}54km$ depth, respectively. The ascending magma of Unbongsan alkali basalts enclosed mantle xenoliths at about $57{\sim}67km$ depth.

  • 지구상의 물 순환은 구름이 형성되어 비나 눈의 형태로 낙하하여 지표수를 형성하거나 일부가 땅속으로 스며들어 지하수를 형성하기도 한다. 또한, 지표면이나 수면, 식물의 입면을 통해서 대기중으로 증발되기도 한다. 대기중으로 소실되지 않은 물은 지표수나 지하수로 하천을 통해 바다로 흘러간다. 이와 같은 물 순환을 수문순환(hydrologic cycle)이라고 한다(Lee, 2008). 하지만 인구 증가 및 산업화로 인해 농업용수, 공업용수, 생활용수 사용이 증가하며 하천에서 직접 물을 취수하여 사용하고 있고 하수종말처리장, 농수로 등을 통해 회귀되는 유량이 많아 하천의 유출 특성을 파악하는데 어려움이 있다. 따라서 정확한 하천 유출 체계 특성을 파악하기 위해서는 하천에서 사용되고 유입되는 물의 특성을 파악할 필요가 있다. 본 연구에서는 만경강 수계 및 제 1지류인 전주천에서 운영되고 있는 취·배수 시설에 대해 문헌조사와 현장조사를 진행하였으며, 조사한 내용을 토대로 하천의 물 사용 체계 모식도를 작성하였다. 만경강 유역의 조사대상 구간은 대아댐 하류에서 전주천 합류점까지의 구간에 대해 조사를 실시하였으며, 전주천 유역은 삼천합류점에서 만경강 본류 합류점까지와 삼천 유역의 구이저수지에서 전주천 합류점 까지를 조사구간으로 선정하였다. 문헌조사의 대상시설은 저수지, 양수장, 취입보, 하수처리장 등이며, 조사대상은 하천의 유출 특성에 영향을 줄 수 있는 시설로 최소 하루 기준으로 일 취수량 0.20㎥/s, 일 방류량 0.20㎥/s 이상이 되는 시설에 대해서만 수행하였다. 현장조사에서는 현장을 방문하여 취·배수시설의 위치와 유입구의 위치, 도수로 등을 조사하였으며, 취·배수 시설의 유량 정확도 평가를 위해 현장에서 유량측정을 수행하여 허가량과의 비교 검토를 실시하였다. 만경강은 농업용수 사용의 증가에 따라 상하류 유량반전이 빈번하게 발생하였으나 이 연구를 통해 검토한 결과 만경강 유역내의 상하류 유량반전 시기가 과거에 비해 감소하였으며, 완주군(오성교)관측소와 완주군(용봉교)관측소의 손실고가 안정적으로 변한 것으로 확인되었으며, 전주시(미산교)관측소 또한 관측소 상류에 위치한 취·배수영향을 고려하여 유출률을 산정한 결과 과거에 비해 손실고가 일정하게 유지되는 안정된 결과를 도출하였다. 따라서 유역의 유출 체계 특성을 체계적으로 관리하기 위해서는 하천의 취·배수시설에 대한 다양성을 고려하여 하천 유출 특성을 파악할 필요가 있다.

Data Mining Analysis of Educational and Research Achievements of Korean Universities Using Public Open Data Services (정보공시 자료를 이용한 교육/연구성과 영향요인 추출 및 대학의 군집 분석)

  • The purpose of this study is to provide useful knowledge for improving indicators that represent competitiveness and educational competency of the university by deriving a new pattern or the meaningful results from the data of information disclosure of universities using statistical analysis and data mining techniques. To achieve this, a model of decision tree was made and various factors that affect education/research performance such as employment rate, the number of technology transfer and papers per full-time faculty were explored. In addition to this, the cluster analysis of universities was conducted using attributes related to evaluation of university. According to the analysis, common factors affecting higher education/research performance are following indicators ; incoming student recruitment rate, enrollment rate, and the number of students per full-time faculty. In the cluster analysis, when performed by the entire university, the size, location of the university respectively, clusters are mainly formed by well-known universities, art physical non-science and engineering religious leaders training universities, and others. The main influencing factors of this cluster are higher education/research performance indicators such as employment rate and the number of technology transfer.

  • Since the development of a new paradigm of sustainable forest management, concerns have been focused on how the sustainability of forests will be assessed and measured objectively. This study examined the conceptual displacement on what is sustainability of forests, and analyzed the progress made by international and regional initiatives on criteria and indicators for sustainable forest management in terms of comparability and compatibility. Regarding data availability and applicability of criteria and indicators for sustainable forest management, the data reports gathered from Montreal Process member countries were analyzed. Within this context, Korean case were examined, using all possible existing information sources such as Forest Statistics, on 6 items of concepts of criteria and indicators, degree of difficulties, measurement units, data availabilities, problems and needs of future improvements for data gathering. The study also analyzed the applicability of criteria and indicators for sustainable forest management.

  • The performance of anti-submarine sonar detection is required to improve by the development of submarine noise reduction technology. because of the need of an anti-submarine detection ability, known for superior beamforming performance, adaptive beamforming algorithms have been considered as an alternative beamforming algorithm of a conventional beamforming algorithm. In order to achieve improved performance by applying an adaptive beamforming algorithm to the sonar system, the adaptive beamforming algorithm applicability of system must be verified, To do this, the performance index for the system applicability must be established. In this paper, a tracking initiation probability of the adaptive beamforming algorithm and the conventional beamforming algorithm was calculated and the performance of both techniques was quantified, a system applicability of the adaptive beamforming algorithm was reviewed.
