늙는다는 것, 즉 노화는 정상적인 생활과정이며 노령자체가 반드시 치과치료의 금기가 아니라는 것은 알고 있는 사실이다. 그래서 우리 전문가들에게 주어진 임무는 수명을 연장시키는데 기여함은 물론이고 노후를 생산적이고 유쾌하게 하여 생활의 질을 높이고 일상생활의 평범한 행위를 지속하도록 도와 주는데 있다 하겠다. 그러나 불행하게도 노인들은 참고 참다가 견딜수 없어 치료를 제공받기 힘든 연령에 치과치료를 요구하게 되는 경향이 있는데 결국 이것이 문제가 된다. 퇴행성 변화와 이로 인하여 야기되는 만성질병 때문에 위험이 보다 커지고 총의치를 하기에 아주 불량한 상태에 있게 된다. 오늘날 불소치료와 그 외의 예방처치로서 치아상실에 영향을 미치고 있는 것은 주지의 사실이다. 그러나 현재 이미 노인이된 환자에 대한 혜택은 무시할 정도며 이러한 영향을 최소한 다음 세대까지 유지 될 것으로 보고 있다. 그러므로 앞으로는 어린이에 대한 관심과 예방에 대한 열의 속에서도 노인에 대한 불공정한 고정관념을 버리고 관심과 동정으로 노인의 치료를 우선으로 해서 치과의사는 상품의 공급자가 아니고 주된 목적과 임무가 인도주의자 라는 것을 보여줘야 하겠다.

신도시는 수도권 주택문제 해결을 위하여 1980년대부터 건설되어 왔다. 행정기관의 분산정책과 함께 개발된 과천 신도시와, 주택 200만호 건설을 위하여 급조된 분당, 일산 등 신도시들이 건설되면서 건설업계는 한동안 호황과 함께 자재, 인력 부족이라는 몸살을 앓기도 하였다. 고층 고밀 아파트 단지를 중심으로 구성된 신도시는 주택 보급률 향상에는 도움을 주었지만 주거의 질에 대한 문제의 심각성을 부각시키기도 하였다. 또한 가장 빠른 기간에 거대한 신도시 건설은 세계 도시사에 신기록으로 남을 것이다. 그러나 지금은 건설배경이나 건설과정의 어려움을 잊고 이제는 위성도시로 자리잡아 가면서 나름대로의 지역문화를 형성하고 있다. 대부분 수도권에 위치한 신도시의 주민은 수도권 주변에서 떠돌다 모여들었고, 서울을 생활기반으로 삼고 있다. 낯선 곳에 낯선 사람들이 모여 새로운 도시설계 기법으로 설계된 낯선 도시에서 만나 살아가는 그들은 그들 나름대로의 새로운 도시 문화를 구축하고 있다. 그들은 급변하는 우리 현실에서 신도시에 대한 적용을 어떻게 하고 있는가? 신도시, 그곳에도 지역성은 있는가? 각 지역별로 새롭게 형성된 신 문화지형은 어떠한 모습으로 형성되고 있는가? 그리고 그곳에서 새롭게 자라나고 있는 도시건축문화는 무엇인가?라는 의문은 건설후 지금까지 그리고 앞으로 건설이 완성될 때까지, 또 계속 팽창되어 가는 신도시에 던져질 화두이다. 지역건축탐방은 인천을 시작으로 전국을 돌아 이제 신도시와 북한 편으로 마감을 하게되었다. 이 연제를 계기로 지역건축에 대한 이해와 관심이 고조되었고, 또 지역건축에 관심이 있었던 건축사(가)나 학자들의 모임이 활성화 되기도 하였다. 지역성에 대한 문제는 지역주민의 꾸준한 관심에서 출발되고 그 지역을 만들어나가는 건축사(가)들의 의식속에서 자라나게 된다. 또한 지역건축의 활성화는 지역문화형성의 밑거름이 되고 나아가 우리문화의 원천이 될 것이다. 지역성에 대한 문제는 앞으로 더욱 논의가 되어야할 영원한 과제이다. 신도시 편은 1999년 12월호 상편에 이어 이번호에 하편을 게재한다.

A Penicillium strain which produces $eta$-galactosidase with high transgalactosylation activity, was isolated from soil and registered as Penicillium sp, KFCC 10888. When $eta$-galactosidase from Penicillium sp. KFCC 10855 reacted with 40% lactose, transgalactosylation ratio reached up to 70% at the 73% conversion of initial lactose. The biosynthesis of the enzyme in Penicillium sp. KFCC 10888 was not induced by lactose. The soybean meal was an effective component of the culture medium. The optimum pH and temperature for transgalactosylation were 4.0 and 55$^{\circ}C$, respectively. The production of galactooligosaccharides was in proportion to the initial lactose concentration. When the enzyme reacted with 40% lactose (pH 4.0) at 55$^{\circ}C$, the concentration of galactooligosaccharides increased up to 40% of total solid concentration.

본 환자를 간호하면서 절단으로 인해 신체적 고통을 받고 있는 존재로서, 생각과 정서, 욕구를 지닌 존재로서의 환자를 돕고자 시도해 보았다. 신체적인 적응을 돕기 위해서 근력강화와 관절가동역증진, 통증조절, 보조기 착용을 위한 단단의 관리, 잔여관절의 변형예방에 중점을 두었다. 심리적인 적응을 돕기 위해서 환자가 절단 수술과 수술 후 변화된 신체외모를 수용하는 과정을 증시했다. 끝으로 사회적인 면에서는 의미있는 사람들의 집단속에서 존재하는 인간으로서의 환자에게 관심을 두었다. 환자의 우측 슬관절 가동역은 완전히 회복된 상태는 아니지만 목발을 이용하여 걷거나 기타 일상생활을 하는데 불편함은 없으며 앞으로 계속적인 노력을 통해 회복될 수 있을 것이다. 그의 좌측 고관절 가동역은 정상유지되고 있으며 절단부위는 보조기 착용에 적합하게 형성되어 가고 있다. 비슷한 처지에 있는 이씨환자의 도움과 환자의 독립적인 생활태도는 환자가 자신의 불구에 적응하고 일상생활에 적응하는데 많은 도움이 되었다. 협조적이고 동정적인 환자들과 의료진의 도움으로 환자는 보호된 병원환경내에서 신체적 제한점을 주목하고 자신의 불구에 적응하면서 타인들과 원만한 관계를 유지해 왔다. 그는 앞으로 사회에 돌아가서 생활하게 될 것이다. 우리 사회는 아직도 그들에 대해 편견을 가지고 있으며 직업적 교육적 의료치료적 배려가 부족한 상태이다. 사회속에서의 적응은 병원에서의 적응보다 훨씬 더 어려울 것이며 때로는 그를 좌절하게 할 것이다. 그의 신체적 결함이 자기 자신만의 책임은 아니며 어느 누구나 사고에 희생될 가능성은 있다. 사회인들이 그들에게 관심있고 수용적인 태도를 지니고 그들의 정상 요구와 인간으로서 동등하게 살아갈 권리를 인정하고 받아들인다며 좀더 쉽게 자신의 슬픔을 극복할 수 있을 것이다.

Rapidly growing mycobacteria are ubiquitous in the environment and are increasingly being recognized as opportunistic pathogens. Recently, a new species, Mycobacteium conceptionense, has been validated from the Mycobacterium fortuitum third biovariant complex by molecular analysis. However, there are few reports, and postsurgical wound infection by this species is rare. We report a case of postsurgical wound infection caused by M. conceptionense in an immunocompetent patient that was identified by a sequencing analysis of 16S rRNA, hps65, and rpoB genes.

The newly revised 2018 Organ Injury Scale (OIS) has a similar format to the previous American Association for Surgery and Trauma (AAST) Emergency General Surgery Grading System, dividing the criteria for grading solid organ damage into three groups; imaging, operation, and pathology. The most significant alteration in the OIS system 2018 revision is the incorporation of multidetector CT (MDCT) findings of vascular injury including pseudoaneurysm and arteriovenous fistula. Similar to the previous OIS, the highest of the three criteria is assigned the final grade. In addition, if multiple grade I or II injuries are present, one grade is advanced for multiple injuries up to grade III. This pictorial essay demonstrates the MDCT findings of solid organ injury grades based on the 2018 OIS system.

People can be exposed to various microorganisms when they eat yukae (seasoned raw meat) because yukae is eaten raw. The purpose of this study was to find out microbial distribution in yukae. In this experiment, 5 restaurants serving yukae were chosen in Daegu area. Mesophilic microorganisms and coliforms were measured by Korean Food Standards Codex. Analyses of Salmonella spp., Listeria monocytogenes, Staphylococcus aureus and Escherichia coli O157:H7 were conducted. As results, mesophilic microorganisms ranged 6.6$\times$103-2.7$\times$105 CFU/g and coliforms ranged 8.9$\times$101-2.1$\times$105 CFU/g. Salmonella spp., Listeria monocytogenes and Escherichia coli O157:H7 were not detected in all 5 samples. However, Staphylococcus aureus was detected in 1 sample out of 5 samples. Hygiene practice during production, processing and cooking process is required.

The cutaneous stimulation is an independent nursing intervention used in various painful conditions, and is explained by gate control theory. This study was aimed at identifying the effect of cutaneous stimulation on reduction of arteriovenous fistula puncture pain of hemodialysis patients. One group repeated measurement post test research was designed. Forty-five hemodialysis patients who received arteriovenous fistula puncture regulary in hemodialysis units of an attacted D hospital to K university have been studied from August 16 to 21, 1993. First the arteriovenous fistula puncture pain of control period was measured, and then the arteriovenous fistula puncture pain of experimental period(with cutaneous stimulation) was measured. The instrument used for this study were visual analogue pain scale as subjective pain measurement, objective pain behavior checklist and Spielberger's Trait Anxiety Inventory as intervening variables. Analysis of data was done by use of paired t-test, t-test, ANOVA and Perarson correlation coefficient. The results of this study were summarized as follows; 1) The first hypothesis that the subjective pain score of arteriovenous fistula puncture pain in experimental period(with cutaneous stimulation) will be lower than in control period was partly supported. The subjective pain score of arterial line was rejected(paired t=-0.28, p=0.77) and the subjective pain score of venous line was supported(paired t=2.61, p=0.01). 2) The second hypothesis that the objective pain behavior score of arteriovenous fistula pain in experimental period(with cutaneous stimulation) will be lower than in control period was rejected(arterial line paired t=-0.45, p=0.65; venous line paired t=-0.36, p=0.72). 3) The third hypothesis that the cardiopulmonary signs of arteriovenous fistula puncture pain in experimental period(with cutaneous stimulation) will be lower than in control period was rejected(pulse paired t=-0.8, p=0.42; systolic BP paired t=0.98, p=0.33; diastolic BP paired t=0.43, p=0.66). Further experimental studies with simple intravenous injection patients will be recommended in order to identify the effect of cutaneous stimulation.

This study was carried out to apply the taxonomic characters to identify and to provide the habitat circumstances for forty one un-introduced environmentally harmful plants in the Korea which have been designated by Ministry of Environment in 2016. We investigated the dried plant specimen from several herbaria and performed field habitat survey in western coast area of United States including California, Oregon and Washington. We suggest the first result for ecological risk discussion, weed risk assessment, taxonomic characters and classification keys for 8 species with the related species - Carduus acanthoides L. (Asteraceae), Carduus tenuiflorus W. Curtis (Asteraceae), Onopordum acanthium L. (Asteraceae), Chromolaena odorata (L.) R.M. King & H. Rob. (Asteraceae), Hydrocotyle ranunculoides L.f. (Apiaceae), Oenanthe pimpinelloides L. (Apiaceae), Ehrharta erecta Lam. (Poaceae), and Paspalum conjugatum P.J. Bergius (Poaceae).
