Assembly tasks are often performed by one robot with fixtures. This type of assembly system has low flexibility in terms of the variety of parts and the part-presentation the system can handle. This paper addresses assembly without fixtures using two-manipulator robot. An active method using force feedback is proposed for the peg-in-hole assembly in highly uncertain environment. Assembly states are defined as status having unique motion constraints and events are modeled as variation of the environmental force. The states are recognized through identification of the events using two 6-d. o. f. force/moment sensors. The proposed method is verified and evaluated by experiments with round peg-in-hole assembly.
Collaborative Robot (Cobot) that can collaborate with humans by fusion with many advanced technologies among industrial robots in the industrial field are attracting attention. In this study, the engineers of Small and Medium Enterprises can directly participate in the cobot design, and ultimately, the possibility of deriving the shape design of the differentiated cobot was studied. The method applied to derive the shape design of differentiated cobot is 'Morphological Analysis'. First, the design elements of the form of cobots were derived as 'Link' and 'Joint'. In addition, by analyzing the image form of the Link and Joint of the existing cobot, a new form element of the Link and Joint was proposed. In order to quantitatively identify the most discriminating cobot shape design, FGI (Focus Group Interview) was conducted to derive image types of 4 Link and 3 Joint. Then, the most important 'Shape Combination' was carried out in morphological analysis, and 12 new cobot shape designs were drawn. Through this, the applicability of the morphological analysis method in the derivation of differentiated cobot shape design was examined.
Researches on air-ground robot cooperating system has been made recently. The cooperation among homogeneous robots focused on the architecture of the system, quality and influence of the communication. In contrast, the cooperation among heterogeneous robots such as aerial vehicle and ground vehicle robots has not been much handled. There are a couple of main points for those air-ground cooperating robots. One is using UAV (Unmanned Aerial Vehicle) as an extra sensor of UGV (Unmanned Ground Vehicle). This kind of application is usually used in situations such as guiding UGV to an appropriate path which could be better determined from the eye in the sky as UAV. The other main application of air-ground cooperating robot system is the localization. By combining sensor information from both UAV and UGV, the robot system as a whole can localize a target object or find features in the environment with better performance than UGV or UAV alone. Although these applications are recently studied in many different ways and devices, there are still a lot of possibilities in the field of air-ground cooperating robot systems. We introduce those research fields in this paper.
Cobots are industrial robots with greatly enhanced safety functions that enable them to work in the same space with workers without protector. Cobots are regulated by the Industrial Safety and Health Act and must be certified according to the manufacturing stage, installation stage and usage stage. The ISO 10218-2 standard applied in the installation phase is difficult to apply in the field. Therefore, it is necessary to develop a risk assessment method based on ISO 12100 standard. This paper proposes a new methodology that combines 'JSA' and 'What-if', which reflects the human error and the lack of known risk factors. Accordingly, a new risk assessment template was proposed and the effectiveness of the developed new template was examined. The current cobot safety regulations need to be unified with safety inspections scheme, and robot safety experts and infrastructures need to be expanded and Robot safety regulations should be unified to 'Robot Act'. Based on this research, risk assessment methods suitable for the field need to be developed additionally, and robot safety regulation needs to be transformed to promote the industry.
This paper introduces a dual manipulator system designed to automate the packaging process of industrial coils, which exhibit higher variability than other structured industrial fields due to diverse commercial requirements. The conventional solution involves the direct-teaching method, where an operator instructs the robot on a target configuration. However, this method has distinct limitations, such as low flexibility in dealing with varied sizes and safety concerns for the operators handling large products. In this sense, this paper proposes a two-step approach for coil packaging: motion planning and assembly execution. The motion planning includes a Rapidly-exploring Random Tree algorithm and a smoothing method, allowing the robot to reach the target configuration. In the assembly execution, the packaging is considered a peg-in-hole assembly. Unlike typical peg-in-hole assembly handling two workpieces, the packaging includes three workpieces (e.g., coil, inner ring, side plate). To address this assembly, the paper suggests a suitable strategy for dual manipulation. Finally, the validity of the proposed system is demonstrated through experiments with three different sizes of coils, replicating real-world packaging situations.
